I can’t agree more with the OP. And they could fleece us out of our money for those asset packs, which sounds bad, but is actually a good thing. In a way this is already being tested DCS WWII is at last becoming a thing. But if you had a Korean War asset pack, a Vietnam asset pack, a Yom Kippur war asset pack, a War in the Pacific asset pack, you would have a pretty well populated world, and at $X per pack per person. You would be pumping money into the sim. Which gives incentive to do it in the packs to begin with, and may finance more Core features.

Well you labeled the thread “large aircraft in DCS”, so people are talking about what large aircraft would fit, and the roles they could fulfill. If you only wanted to talk about one aircraft, may I suggest that you be more specific in your naming of the thread. Deka is going to do what there going to do, and I as well as many others will buy it day one. But again you opened the floor for “large aircraft” so maybe join in, and talk about why bombers in general would be cool, and why the ones Deka is looking at would be a good fit for DCS, or close the thread and name it properly.

And that’s why I say it should be scalable. But just “not caring” is a rear, and often calculated thing. Okinawa is a good example of when that’s taken too far. But if you are going to intentionally kill a large part of a civilian population there could be drastic consequences. But yes, again that’s why I said make it scalable. In most modern wars pulling a stunt like that will get you sanctioned into bankruptcy in a minute.

Like it or not civilians are a large part of warfare, and a consideration that military planners must take into account at every level. Right now I’m DCS if faced with a situation like opposing infantry occupying a town, I can just level the town. But that’s seldom the case in real military operations. It would be nice to have civilian, and neutral units that could be placed in missions, and an acceptable civilian casualty rate ranging from 0-100%. It would also be nice to have a third coalition available. Maybe in dynamic campaigns doing things like transiting neutral air space cold cause that colilition to join your opponents side. Could be interesting. The first idea makes smaller scale units relevant, and adds stress to missions. Can’t use MK-84s to flatten that mortar position hidden in the small town if there are civilians there, and killing more then 5% results in a mission failure. Possibly causing that strong regional power bordering your conflict zone to join your opponents side. So maybe better go in with Choppers, and clean them out with small caliber guns. Also now flying threat chopper, you have to make sure that target has a weapon on him. I understand that this is requesting new programming, and new core features. But I think thouse kind of features are needed for this sim. I would gladly do a one time pay to play, at full module price to DCS world, if I ment new more immersive features were added to the sim.

+1 for the C-27. When the Army was going to get them, they were operating from the ramp behind my shop. I got to go out and look them over, and talk shop with there maintenance guys any time I wanted to. Gotta watch what I say here as they were pretty modified for the modern battle filed. But they would not be a total sitting duck, as they had “pretty decent” SDS suits. These things can land on a dime, and are basically designed to do low altitudes penetration of defended airspace. I think planning a route through known Enemy SAM defenses, and flying that route at night, with NVGs, 100 feet off the deck doing 250 knots IAS sounds pretty fun. Then landing on some short field unprepared strip to resupply a FOB, and return would be some sim flying I would for sure be interested in. Would be particularly great if DCS has a dynamic campaign with a strategy game style logistics engine. So delivering thous bullets, and that fuel would be a victory in itself.

The Ah-1. Although there was a UH-1 that had 4 flex mounted M-60s, rocket pods, and a freaking 40mm grande launcher on its nose. And do not forget the Loch. Vietnam would be cool beyond belief. Back when you could actually put fly a missile.

The infantry AI in DCS is pretty good, for a flight sim, and the new models look amazing. But we need more, and more types. In WWII all sides had some kind of AT infantry weapons. The Panzersheck, and bazooka come to mind. We need these. The RPG7 has been used the world over, it would be nice to see it, especially in the hands for your insurgents. In WWII all sides used some form of automatic rifle/light machine gun. The Normandy battle fields are a little empty without “hitlers buzzsaw”. RPKs, and PKMs are and have been in wide use around the world, as is the M240. DMRs in one form or another have been used for decades, and how many FALs have seen action? Also grenade launchers are in wide use. So why don’t we have infantry units to Correlate in the sim? Similar units are already in game, and no truly new weapons are required. I’m going to use U.S. troops as an example, but you can extrapolate for all nations. I would love to see a unit mix like, Basic riflemam (M-4) already in game, LMG (M-249) in game, AT soldier (SWAM), designated marksman (M-14 Simiauto only), grenadier (that rotary grenade launcher the marines use), HMG (M-240)/(M-60), anti air (Stinger) in game. Adding this would give mission makers more options when making missions, and would make the infantry a real threat to all other units in game.

God yes, especially if the Kiowa works out. Hunter killer teams anyone. I doubt ED will be the ones to do it, but one never knows. Actually I kinda wish Heatblure would tackle this one. That Jester multi crew would be pretty sweet. Especially if the pilot was decent. I would love to strap into that nose gunner position.

No ones gonna mention the PO-2? I want the L4 because I’m American, and it fits the theater. But I would love to try my hand as a “night witch”.

Probably, I do think as DCS WWII gets fleshed out the need for something like this will be self evident. Have you tried to do a proper CAS mission on the Normandy map with the current war birds? I can’t find shit. Even the half tracks are hard to spot. Quite a bit different then the desert. It’s why these planes existed in the first place. I think the interest would be there. It give the gen ave guys something to fly, wile still being true to remaining DCS, emphasis on the C, and there already seems to be interest in scout type game play. Also taking off from the WWII equivalent of a FARP and flying a relatively short distance to perform a mission, then return, fits in with the play style of DCS. I’m sure there are plenty of guys who would love to cruse in at tree top level, all the time weaving in and out of small arms fire. So they can mark a target for the P-47s to roll in on with the heavy firepower. Or maybe even lay a little pain of there own with that .30cal that they had the Ms bolt on under the wings. There’s already an interest in this kind of play, look at the Kiowa thread. And yes we need a passionate dev team to make this happen. But maybe if we can show some interest in this type of aircraft someone will take an interest. ED would be preferred, or Mag3, if they can get there shit together. Or maybe OctopusG, as they have the closest thing ATM. The passion for the warbirds is out there.

I get it, it isn't the sexiest high speed low drag piston fighter ever. But this thing was a major part of the fight over Western Europe. It was field modified to carry bazookas, and machine guns, and was pretty good at CAS. It had a pretty cool radio operator observer suite, and did "froward air controller", artillery spotter, and reconnaissance missions. Hell once they performed target spotting/ marking so B-17s could carpet bomb German armor. Of coarse theirs Rosie The Rockettier, which once stopped and armored counter attack. We have forward artillery observers in DCS, and AFAC. Be it calling in some CAS, dropping some steel rain, or getting in the weeds to machine gun some enemy solders this thing would be a cool addition to DCS WWII, or maybe Korea one day. Also it is pretty simple systems wise. Maybe one of the Dev teams would like to give this little warrior some virtual wings.

+1000, DCS F-4E really needs to be a thing. I don't really understand why the big push for the forth gens. Without full fidelity 4th gen Russian counterparts the online arena is crippled. But F-4s , F-14s, A-7s, A-6s, F-15As, Ah-1Qs, tangling with Mig-21, 23,25s, Su-17s, and Mi-24s now that would have been interesting. Lots of FOX1 and FOX2 action. Lots of getting in close for CAS. But I'm off topic, the F-4E needs to be taken off the back burner.

The more I fly the MiG-19 - The more I Like it !
FlankerKiller replied to Igor4U's topic in MiG-19 Farmer B
I took it out yesterday. Got low and slow, and spun it right into the ground. It buffets going transonic, it really easy to get in trouble at slow air speeds. I can’t say how accurate it is, but it feels pretty comparable to the Saber, maybe a little more prone to trying to kill you. Hope that helps -
Thanks for what you do. I do hope you can bring this out at some point. It’s different, and that’s cool. But I do understand these things take time, a lot of time.
-
Umm, I’m not sure what people are getting at here. The Tomcat has massive wings, which change depending on airspeed. It gonna be a monster in a slow speed turn fight. I’ve never read anything saying it was poor at ACM. It was retired because it was complicated, and expensive to operate, not because it was ineffective. And yes, in a close in circle fight the F-86 will curb stomp any 4th gen.

2020 Chinese New Year Mini Update
FlankerKiller replied to uboats's topic in Deka Ironwork Simulations
May I request the SU-22\SU-17 You guys did such an awesome job on the JF-17, I know you would do I justice. I hope you focus on “red air” and somewhat obscure aircraft. Unless you want to d an F-100 at some point. But a supersonic Soviet mud mover would be really sweet. Honestly it doesn’t matter, I’ll buy whatever you make. -
Ships in general need an overhaul. And better ship behavior. Back in the day you could set a ship on the map, and give it an attack unit command, and it would sortie out and hunt down that unit, then return to its stating point. Just one example of needed behavior. Another is a vastly improved damage model, the one on the Perry isn’t bad. And the ability to have weapons, radar, and systems destroyed, or damaged. And like one user said they need defensive behaviors. ASW would be cool, but probably totally useless in DCS. Most missions don’t or won’t last long enough. Though flying cap, to defend your ASW captors wile they defend your carrier from a sub would be a kinda cool mission. I don’t think we should wait on a retexturing of old ships to start seeing improvements, or new ship modules. DCS took a seriously navel turn, and that environment needs to start getting the love it deserves. And yes we need more ships. Especially WWII ships. Oh and every ship with a radar should be able to act as a EWR.

I’ve been playing almost exclusively in SP for a little over a decade at this point. While I feel the AI is nowhere near unusable, I also feel it is in great need of improvement. The air to ground is ok in my experience. I do use advanced settings, and search and engage in zone a lot. But that’s what advanced settings are for. Hell I wish there were even more advanced settings. In air to air the old Ai, circa LOMAC, gave a much better gun fight, and a totally shitty BVR fight. Over the years I’ve noted a ton of little tweaks from ED, and the air to air Ai has improved greatly, especially in BVR. The biggest issues I notice ATM are, the extremely predictable dogfight behavior, the lack of randomization in a dogfight, the lack of ability to fine tune AI skill. In a WVR fight the AI ATM will always try to defend by going vertical, in many cases this is a horrible decision, and makes for way to easy of a kill. This is not the way the older simpler AI worked. It never really went “defensive” it just constantly tried to turn into you to get on your six. But it made for a much more realistic feeling gun fight. I’ve seen the AI do some pretty interesting things in between patches. Everything from turning cold and lighting the burners, to pulling a “maverick” and slamming on the air brakes at the bottom of a split S. What I feel needs to happen is we need all on that, but with a randomizer. I also feel that attributes such as aggressiveness Ned to be scalable. That way one “good” AI doesn’t necessarily act the same as another “good” Ai. I do not feel that the Ai using the SFM is a bad thing. As long as the performance lines up pretty closely one the performance graphs, and I think mostly it dose. ED has made some pretty good progress this year, and are saying that they will be making more in the coming year, so I’m hopeful. Wile I do not think it’s all doom and glum, I definitely feel that a not very interesting Ai is one of the main limitations on my enjoyment of this awesome sim.
-
If possible could the AI be given an advanced settings menu? Instead of just having the four settings could there be sliders of AI attributes? For example aggressiveness, weapons employment , aircraft handling, defensive skills, and maybe tactics. I don’t think this would work with the AI we have now, but I know ED wants to do a major overhaul, and maybe something like this could give us some really customized and unique Ai wingmen and advisory’s. Could also be pretty cool with the upcoming dynamic campaign. Could have a Virtual squadron with you. With set wingmen that you can fly with on missions. Could make you a little invested in those wingmen as well, as replacements might not be as good. Also your virtual squadron mates could “level up” with each survived mission. Nothing crazy, but maybe a point or two on one of the bars. Or even take some points from that aggressive bar if a mission goes particularly bad. Probably can’t be done, but it’s a thought.

will we ever see a flyable B-52
FlankerKiller replied to Winglesschip209's topic in DCS Core Wish List
DCS F-111 would be a day one buy. I would gladly pay $100 for that, especially if it’s a Gulf War variant. Same for a SU-24. -
True, but the same can be said for all modules. It’s unfortunate, but these things are on the cutting edge, and that edge moves. I think it’s easier to build the later models. then let server, and mission designers limit the weapons available for the period. It isn’t exact, but we’re not going to get fully modeled incremental block upgrades. And the A-7E/D saw a lot of history. A good example there. I would love to have them both, but if I had to pick it would be an E. It wouldn’t be totally accurate to “pretend” It’s an Air Force D, but close enough to get a decent feel. And something is better then nothing, which is what we have ATM.
-
I had to look that one up, but yes. I would fit really well with the MiG-19. And somebody needs to do the MiG-17. Again, there’s enough old iron to keep us emptying our wallets for decades. But we’re getting off topic. The A-7 is the focus here. And why it’s awesome, which it is, and needed in DCS.
