  1. Looking in Wikipedia, I found all USA kills in Vietnam. It showed 19 kills by the F-8 in two different lists. Another showed 3 shot down, all by MiG-17’s, all with guns. Since the F-4 served longer in Vietnam, and flew more sorties, maybe kills per sortie would put the F-8 in a better light. I was surprised to also find how well the F-105 scored in number of kills. I didn’t, however, look up how many were lost to air to air engagements. One surprise on the lists was two kills by B-52 tail gunners! I still believe the A-4 would be popular, just not as popular as the Crusader, if brought to DCS.
  2. Just to make my feelings clear on the A-4, I’m for it.
  3. I just Googled “f-8 Crusader MiG kills”, and it also said 19:1.
  4. I just watched a utube video that said the F-8’s kill ratio was 19:1. I don’t know what number is right, but the F-105 sure wasn’t a threat to the Migs. They were typically escorted by Phantoms. I have heard of only one MiG going down to a F-105. What’s the source for all of those Spad kills? The RF-8 squadron (VFP-62) I was with sent detachments on the FDR to VietNam, where we lost one pilot. Could it be that the Crusader was so good the pilots didn’t need Top Gun training? :) 1v1 with a Phantom, the Crusader ate them alive.
  5. Or, maybe the C-119.
  6. How does this sound: A-4’s take off from a carrier, are escorted by F-4’s and/or F-8’s. Mig-21’s are sent up to intersept them, and we have one hell of a fight going on. Any one shot down gets picked up by UH-1’s. Maybe even some F-5’s can get involved. What’s wrong with this picture? We need the F-8 Crusader, the REAL MiG killer. Four 20mm cannon, Sidewinders, 1,000 mph, carrier based. I don’t know how to do a poll. Could someone create one for the Crusader? Sorry, didn’t mean to hi-jack the thread. Thanks in advance
  7. There-in lies part of the problem of few people flying the Normandy (or any other) map: new toys keep coming out before the last one is completely finished. The Hornet comes out, so we’ve got to have a new map for it. Or, maybe this Syrian map will now need something new to use it for. All before Normandy is finished. Every time we are given a new toy, the old one gets dropped. Just like when we were kids. The number of toys is expanding faster than the number of new people coming to DCS.
  8. Or, 98% just don’t care. It’s the popular vote that counts. There is no electoral college.
  9. I spent 5 years working at Cessna, delivered new planes on weekends, and I didn’t bring up the 152. Looks like the poll is going against the O-2.
  10. The 152 is the bottom of the line plane from Cessna. It has two seats, a nose wheel, and is used mostly for primary training. Maybe you are thinking of the four seater 172, also with a nose wheel. Even that is not like an O-2, which is closer to the 337. Google them, and the O-2. The O-2 was not just a 337 with the seats ripped out. Has as been suggested.
  11. Nothing wrong with market analysis, which involves the collection of data. By the time you have gone through several rounds, as I describe them, you have made available many different planes on which to vote. The Viggen would have possibly been one of those. To get back to the thread, if someone wants a 152, or some such, there is a sim called **X, which has 1,000’s of free planes to download. The “C” in DCS stands for Combat.
  12. Maybe the real question should be about why so few people are using the map? The map, itself, is good. Again, I think the answer is that every one always runs to “the new kid on the block”.
  13. How about if DCS had us vote our order of preference on 5 planes? Then, add the winner and 4 other planes to vote on. Put the first and second round winners with some others in a third round. If a previous winner isn’t at least third in each round, they get dropped. Do that 4-5 times, and you have a pretty good list as to what people really want. Then DCS can decide which of those fits in with what we already have. Some people just want to be able to fly as many different planes as possible. They probably don’t care what plane comes out next. They will vote yes for anything. In the real world, you don’t fly a different plane everyday. DCS, needs to take into account what will sell enough to make a profit.
  14. I voted “No”, because there many planes more deserving. It would be a nitch, with only short time popularity. That said, I have many hours in the real Cessna 337 Skymaster, and it flew very well. I liked it. We have the F-5, also used in Vietnam, and the MiG-21. So, how about an F-8 Crusader? THE MiG killer.
  15. I think it is because, every time a new module or map comes out, everyone rushes over to try it. I try to stick with the Mustang, Spitfire, and Dora modules all the time, figuring I don’t want to be a jack of all trades, master of none. I prefer to be as good as I can be in those three I have no intention of getting the Hornet, for instance. It would take up all of my time trying to get proficient. The more modules and maps available, the smaller the slices of a finite pie become. So, where the WWII servers used to be popular, and the more choices people have, the fewer people will populate each server. The solution isn’t fewer choices, but more people. The conundrum is to get more people, you need newer offerings to attract them. Some folks want to fly as many different planes as possible. I was born during WWII, and those are the planes I want to fly. Like minded people should get together, and form an Allied and a LW squadron, get on a Normandy server and maybe be able to switch from one to the other on any given day. I’m up for it.
  16. It would be nice if ED puts this on the next update. I would bet that most of us haven’t a clue as to how to desaturate the glass. Nice find.
  17. No, but I will now. Thanks
  18. I downloaded Spudknocker's profile, just now, but can't get the xml file to show up in TrackIR.
  19. Which one do you use, and where do you save it to?
  20. Pretty much what you said. I know the swastika is unlawful in several countries. However, in the past, mods were offered, by modders, to add it to German planes, if you wanted. I was just asking if there was a reason why none of those mods have been updated for the latest DCSW version. Maybe a modder can give us some insight.
  21. What do political reasons have to do with user made skins? We have had swastikas for the German planes in earlier DCSW versions. I’m just asking when we will have them again.
  22. Are we just waiting for a stable/final/whatever version of 2.5 to get this mod for the German planes?
  23. I saw on your website, a Hotas assignment download for the F-5E. Is there a print out, somewhere, showing what goes where? Also, I'm not familiar with lua files. Where/how do I extract the file? Thanks, VinnieJones
  24. Has it already been noted that the canopy doesn’t close all the way?
