What a sense of entitlement.
-
The old girl still looks great. Let's hope HB add vanes to the upcoming early F-14 model. It will help set them apart from the existing A.
-
@BIGNEWY posted this earlier. What they're doing with rain effects may have an effect on what we're seeing currently, at least until HB model the rain repel system (if they intend to at all):

Please don't think I'm saying you're wrong @rwbishUP I'm not sure how it's supposed to be. A jet engine is still imparting a small amount of thrust, even at idle isn't it?
-
This morning I was taxiing aft on the carrier (new deck crew active), with a strong wind blowing straight down the deck. Despite being at idle the tail wind would accelerate me towards the edge. That's realistic from what I hear.
-
Would love this for the F- 14:

Okay, thanks. I ask because I think Heatblur missed posting their contribution in the last patch notes.

@BIGNEWY Any chance of an advanced look at the patch notes?

Asymmetric Loadout and Trim Characteristics.
JupiterJoe replied to JupiterJoe's topic in Bugs and Problems
@draconus It seems excessive, because of how stable it is with a symmetrical loadout. You cannot neutralise roll at all. I've even tried putting in a little rudder trim. You must make constant adjustments. If that's just the way it is in real flying then fine, but the guy above said he doesn't experience it and I don't seem to remember this being an issue with a spring-loaded joystick. These issues may be specifically related to (perhaps just my) FFB. Do you have FFB? Perhaps it's connected to the AP switch not disengaging when Roll SAS is off. Clutching at straws, I know. In other news: Altitude Hold loses integrity at exactly 40 degrees wing sweep, anywhere above 15k feet. -
Asymmetric Loadout and Trim Characteristics.
JupiterJoe replied to JupiterJoe's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yes @draconus, AP locks the attitude. I'm wondering if this inability to neutralise roll is specific to me (a worn FFB stick perhaps). It feels like Roll SAS isn't working. -
Asymmetric Loadout and Trim Characteristics.
JupiterJoe replied to JupiterJoe's topic in Bugs and Problems
Do you use FFB? Every asymmetric layout. Any loadout with a LAINTIRN as an example, but there are many more. The aircraft rolls right/left but is never fully neutralised with trim. -
Oh, I didn't realise flight crews only rarely travelled to/from the hangar deck. Watched too may movies, just as you said. Still, would've been nice to have seen the inside of the hangar deck. Oh well. Top Gun (1986): Top Gun: Maverick (2022):

Can't wait 'til the elevators are operational for players and particularly for the F-14. We're getting ever closer. Thank you ED & HB.

F-14 Carrier Ops Campaign on Frozen Fjords in Kola
JupiterJoe replied to Horns's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I'm for any new F-14 Campaign. -
I find FFB really helps to avoid this.

objects disappearing within a very short distance
JupiterJoe replied to Flamingo's topic in View and Spotting Bugs
Can't believe this thread is not getting more traction, so giving it a bump. Draw distance seems to have been greatly reduced in the last couple of updates. Perhaps this has something to do with the work done on spotting dots etc. Flying away from the boat in my F-14 I am very disappointed to see the carrier group disappear from the surface of the water only 10 miles out. I have my draw distance set to extreme and LOD factor set to 2. In my P-51 my wingman's fuel tanks disappear/reappear whilst floating in/out of combat formation. This all spoils immersion quite considerably. Thank you. -
the video below you'll hear the wing-sweep sound effect from an AI F-14, (I recommend you use your headphones). It's subtle above the engine noise, but it's there. This effect is not present on the player's aircraft and I think that's a shame. In real life you may not be able to hear this with your helmet on etc, but you might be able to feel it through the seat of your pants and that's what some sound effects in DCS are meant to represent, the vibration. Anyway, I'd like this effect very subtlety audible from the cockpit (as with DLC), as well on the exterior. The soundscape on the F-14, like the model itself, is a masterpiece. Laser guided bombs not hitting target - no idea why
JupiterJoe replied to cesarferrolho's topic in Bugs and Problems
I've just tried it in MP and it worked, so I guess today's huge patch did contain some fixes (sadly the launch-bar abort switch, or the 'step' in the sound of the engines spooling down weren't among them). Apparently HB's patch notes were late. We're still wating for those. EDIT: Correction. I just tried Operation Clay Dagger and the laser code cycling problem still exists. I guess HB didn't release any fixes in this latest patch. Apologies for the false hope. -
Running request - Bindable Button / Axis options
JupiterJoe replied to maverickturner's topic in Bugs and Problems
Well I'll be darned, it does exist. All this time I was typing in autopilot into the search and it doesn't show up there. It's listed as Heading Hold - GT, just as you said. Thank you so much Any idea why Heading Hold would only work intermittently and GT consistently? -
Thanks, I noticed that my (F-14) wingman switched on his formation lights as we came into land at dusk. Is this realistic?

Running request - Bindable Button / Axis options
JupiterJoe replied to maverickturner's topic in Bugs and Problems
Can we have an autopilot ground track toggle please? Heading Hold doesn't work very often with my FFB stick, but GT works every time for some reason. -
Oh okay, I have heard the term 'music on/off' used for radar jammer and because it's an IR missile I was confused. Lucky the guy's callsign wasn't Fox Thanks.
