RTX2070 Super v GTX1080ti - DCS and memory
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
Let me add that the 2070 Super is a fabulous video card for the money. At 500 bucks it cannot be beat. The performance is "most of the 1080ti" for a good price - and you get RTX with it. But since I had the 1080ti - and it has more mem - I decided to use it instead. Though I will add that the real solution is to replace it with a 2080ti, something I will do when I have more time for it. -
RTX2070 Super v GTX1080ti - DCS and memory
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
Just an update about this: I tried both the 2070Super and 1080ti in the same PC with DCS and feel the 1080ti is better. I can say that the 9600k running at 4.9ghz absolutely trounces the the 5930k. -
Yes, I had to set the UHF and VHF radio keybinds properly in order to contact the tanker with the correct radio.

Ha! You saved the day! Yes, that was it!

Greetings, I have a new pc up and going. I have easy comms off/unchecked. I am trying to do a refueling mission (one I have done dozens of times), I have my radio tuned properly to the tanker comms (252.00mhz), but when I call him up to get gas, I get no reply. However, if I turn on easy comms and try it again everything works like it should. Can anyone give me some guidance? It would be appreciated! I'm using the F16. :joystick:  /Boxxman Fixed - needed to bind UHF/VHF buttons to use the correct radio.

No air brakes, not at all. Fine adjustments on the throttle are necessary all the time, as are subtle stick corrections. Think this way: You have to predict where the plane will be as you're connected and correct accordingly. 1 - join up on tanker and match speed; 2 - call for rejoin and get permission to go to pre-contact; 3 - slide into pre-contact carefully and stabilize; 4 - push into the "fuel zone" carefully and keep speed just a bit higher than the tanker's speed; 5 - WATCH the lights on the tanker's belly and keep centered with it with the big yellow line down it; 6 - stabilize with the green lights centered and creep up until they call "taking fuel" (you will see on the lights on the right of the hud when connected) 7 - proceed to get gas and disconnect when completed. I found by applying some "S" curves to my stick to smooth out the middle helped to reduce pilot induced oscillation, or PIO; use about 15-20 for pitch and roll. Help reduce PIO: see it happening before it happens. If you think it is starting release the controls to let the bird - and your brain - stabilize... And practice...I have ~190 successful A2A refuels completed and only one out of 5 it without a disconnect. As an aside, even "Mover" said it's a bit easier IRL in one of his DCS videos...lolo! Here's my simple mission for practice: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3306711/ Here's a video of one of my refuel missions: I think VR makes it a lot easier than on a screen, FWIW... Oh, and practice!

RTX2070 Super v GTX1080ti - DCS and memory
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
This system as it stands is as follows: 200 - i5-9600k at 4.8g 140 - 32gb Corsair mem 45 - Rosewill Magnetar Case 20 - Rosewill Pcie 4 port USB 3 card 120 - Intel 1tb nvme ssd 50 - cooler master dual fan cpu cooler 80 - Asus Z370 prim MB (open box) 110 - EVGA 850w psu 500 - 2070S ~1265 total for the system. The single thread performance for this one is 2913 passmarks. The 5930 system it's replacing only does ~2100 or so. Temps are ~80c running Intel Burn Test at "Extreme", ~78 if I take off the side cover (soon will have custom laser cutting and engraving with the DSD logo on it) -
RTX2070 Super v GTX1080ti - DCS and memory
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
Thx for the tips I went ahead with the 2070 Super from Newegg. I have the 1080ti as well and will see how the 2070 does. I can swap the 1080ti if I don't like it and kick the 2070 down to where the 1080 was. The prices for used 1080ti's are stupid. I can't see it so that's why I went with the 2070. New 1080ti's are even more absurd! -
RTX2070 Super v GTX1080ti - DCS and memory
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
hm...it's the issue of the vram that is giving me pause. I have a spare 1080ti which I can take from an old system. I might just get the 2070 super and test them both on the same system and see what happens :) -
Question: Which is better for DCS and VR, the GTX1080ti or the RTX2070 Super? Will 8gb of video memory be enough? I am building a budget 9600k system and have only the GPU to source. I could get a 2080ti, but that's not the goal for the this system since the budget for this specific one is 1200 bucks. Since everyone here know more about DCS and VR I figured this is the best place to ask the question. Thanks in advance for any useful facts! :joystick: :pilotfly:

This is the VR forum. Not too many folks using tir here. -
Guys sell the original Oculus Rift on the iRacing forums for ~200 USD on a regular basis if you're a member there. The Reverb is a good step up from the Original Rift. I have not used the Rift S but took the Reverb to get away from FB and for the better resolution; I like the headstrap much better as well. It does make you need more performance, however. I just fly around, so it's ok for me. The clarity is really good.

I suggest the Reverb.

Refueling indicator similar to approach indicator of supercarrier

This...and make them brighter at night...you can't see them at all in VR without NVG. -
Just use the lights and the centerline of the tanker on its belly. Keep the greens in the middle and you're golden. Don't look at the boom. I have ~175 VR refuels off the 135. Just line up the green lines and match the speed...and steady them hands!

I have $834 in modules...I'm still looking forward to the day they fix the cockpit floodlight in the F16 dropping the frame rates when you turn it on :/

[CANT REPRODUCE] BIG FPS DROP WITH FLOOD LIGHTS
DerekSpeare replied to JTFF - Raph's topic in Bugs and Problems
Sorry to report but the drop in frames is still there on DCS 2.5.6.45317- it is the "Consoles" floods. The other one doesn't cause the drop. Fingers are crossed that it can be fixed one day! -

[CANT REPRODUCE] BIG FPS DROP WITH FLOOD LIGHTS
DerekSpeare replied to JTFF - Raph's topic in Bugs and Problems
Dragging this back up...it appears the issue with the drop in frame rates still exists after this most recent update to the Beta. My tests are showing that it is related to the "Console Floods" and not necessarily related to the other ones, the "Internal" (IIRC). It is most certainly something I can reproduce reliably. And the new internal lighting is REALLY GOOD!
