The Mirage should have the same fuel restriction on startup that all the other fighters have, even if it does not delay its take off for as long as the F-15, Mig-29 or SU-27. The spirt of the rule is to keep a defender from spamming defending fighters by forcing them to refuel. Since the Mirage is a fighter is should fall under this same rule. In the same sense that the FC3 pilots don’t like their aircraft being called arcade, the Mirage pilots (me being one of them) don’t like the exaggerations about its abilities, comments about bugs that are long fixed or “how easy it is in the scenario”, which is just a bunch of BS. The plane set and weapon set is well balanced in BF with each of the fighters having a certain advantage. The F-15 has the best radar, the SU-27 and Mig 29 have the best IR missiles and system to employ them, the Mirage has the best BVR capability. The idea that the Mirage is Uber or easy compared to the other fighters has as much credibility as saying the FC3 fighters are arcade. JD AKA_MattE -
If it is a knife fight a lot of times I will forgo the radar lock and just use the Snake to avoid seeing the pipper jump around. You have the added bonus of not lighting up their RWR and it might get them to relax long enough to give them a clean 30mm squirt. JD AKA_MattE

Your are only talking about the 8th AF, the 9th AF had eleven Fighter Groups flying the P-47 in late 44. The 9th AF was (Became) a tactical AF but it still shot down a lot of German aircraft in the ETO. I sure hope that ED don't focus solely on its ground attack ability, it was initially designed as a high alt interceptor, but there was not a lot of that going on the allied side in 44.. I do have high hopes though since the foundations of the design were from a Russian :) JD AKA_MattE

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
Jugdriver replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
It is how Blue Flag works, The idea is to take all the locations (at least the ones that spawn aircraft ) and win the map, then the map resets. As Frostie mentioned some of the best fights are when one side are on their heels flying from their last bases. Sometimes a few guys can hold back the horde, sometimes you get steamrolled, it is just how it works. I dont think your opinion is in the majority, and if it is not to your liking perhaps you should fly on another server. JD AKA_MattE -
I will be surprised if ED are able to simulate the "hide the jet exhaust trick" Mr. Sea Harriers talks about, but I hope they can. I get the impression from that book the Harrier is going to be very dangerous in a knife fight. JD AKA_MattE

I have seen guys with sub 200 pings bounce around all over the place (no one on the sever had a ping higher than 190 and there was only 20 people). I think it is ED'd net code and we will just have to be patient and wait for that to improve. JD AKA_MattE -

Lots of Fun, Thanks Maverick and the 104th! One quick question do you have the run down on Ground Kills and mission survivors as well? Props to comie1 and Tekk for gun kills! Thanks JD AKA_MattE

I Flew for a couple of hours on the 99th last night in an F-5 without issue. I think this might be a hit or miss kind of thing (which of course makes it hard for ED to track down). JD AKA_MattE

The Mirage has a few more Flaws than the 4 missiles which IMO is a real hindrance, especially in a large engagement. I have had to run away more times than I can count because I launched every missile I had, didn’t get one hit and I knew the aircraft I was up against still have both heaters and Radar guided missiles to shoot at me. The Radar on the Mirage is still a WIP and has a real problem with dropping contacts. It is very maneuverable in the initial turn but then bleeds energy so badly that you will be down to 250 knots in no time and dead in the air. Then there is the IFF which has to be managed, which is not a flaw, but certainly is something that does not have to be done on the 15, 29, or 27. Is the Mirage a seriously dangerous fighter in DCS, Yes, absolutely, does it have the best SARH missile ATM, apparently so. Is it OP, I don’t think so. I think one of the reasons so many folks are flying it is because it is not as sterile as the FC3 fighters. There is a start up procedure, there is a working INS navigation system that is very usefully in BF especially at night, there are the little things that you have to account for like if you want your Radar to be ready on takeoff you will want to warm it up on the ground, or being mindful when you jettison your drop tank to turn off the jettison switch and close the gate or you are going to be in for a rude surprise when you go to fire your next missile. Overall the Mirage, along with the other DCS world aircraft, are a more immersive experience and this is contributing to its popularity. I also think that because of its FBW system it is an easy plane to fly and that makes it popular. Lastly and I think most importantly the fact you don’t have to refuel it makes it a lot of peoples first choice, especially in a defensive situation. Someone mentioned this a few pages back and said that the Mirage should start with 20% Fuel like the other Gen 4 fighters and I agree. The purpose of having fighters refuel at the start is so we don’t have fighters spamming while trying to defend a location, the Mirage certainly should be subject to this. Lastly the R-27T is the most dangerous missile in BF and you are one of the most dangerous users of that missile, I Have seen you hit people with it and at ranges that would make for a great SARH shot. @ iLOVEwindmils, Fedduk does have the M2K and he is very dangerous with it. I believe Zeus said it was a bug that has to be fixed on the ED side. JD AKA_MattE

The simple solution to the Gazelle question is to not allow the recon version to carry ground troops, thus you would need 2 choppers to take a location. Allow the recon Gazelle to carry a stinger and nothing more. JD AKA_MattE -
The 104th and Open Conflict are great servers. Blue Flag is a lot of fun, I like the format as it is a campaign and I am a campaign pilot. That said the server/environment is only part of the equation with the 530, the other side is how the RDI works and some of its quirks like it’s issue with dropping contacts in PID/TWS (among others). I will lock a contact in PID/TWS get the information I need then unlock it so the contact does not drop off, then relock it in PID/TWS as I get close to the shot, then hard lock it manually before I fire (which is not really necessary as JoJo pointed out, it is just how I do it). If you fly in Blue Flag note that the first time you are on the server (or if the campaign phase resets) you have to type “Blue” or “Red” (no quotes) in the chat so that you are assigned to a side and you then can only fly that side for the rest of the phase. Also know that the Mirage is on both sides in Blue flag. JD AKA_MattE

The Majority of my kills are with the 530, and I am an almost exclusive multiplayer pilot. That said I fly Blue Flag mostly and the 530 is up against R27-R and AIM-7 which gives it an advantage. I do lose lock in PIC/STT on a Regular basis but most of the time it is against a maneuvering target or one using the ground to mask, which appears to be the correct behavior and only occastionally do I lose lock in PIC/STT for no apparent reason. PID/TWS is another story, it drops contacts every time for no appaernt reason, but this is a known bug. JD AKA_MattE
