  1. Buzzline has a .lua file in this thread that fixed the finish mission bug for me.
  2. I've found that switching to "HUD only view" as soon as I'm in the basket really helps with my awareness of position next to the tanker. That view doesn't change FOV, it just removes your aircraft graphics from your view. I find that in the normal view, too much of the tanker is obscured for me to reliably judge if I'm drifting too far forward or aft until it's too late to correct. I have a HOTAS button bound just for that. Maybe with more practice I'll be able to do without it but for now it's the difference between filling up in one plug vs a dozen.
  3. I own the F-18, F-14, and both A-10 modules. I would not hesitate to recommend all three. The best value is the F-18. Multirole most weapon systems most content, both premium and user made The user made Liberation dynamic campaign can be played with any aircraft but the multirole F-18 is ideal IMHO easier air to air refueling than the F-14 and it's worth learning for longer missions Easy to fly, moderately complex systems and avionics I love the F-14, it's what brought me back to DCS years after I lost interest in LOMAC/Flaming Cliffs Mainly air to air Fast pretty simple systems and avionics if you tell your AI RIO Jester what to do with the handy radial menu Jester has a volume knob on the left panel most challenging to fly of the three Very difficult air to air refueling but has very good range so most missions won't need it if you don't go crazy with burners Has some very good campaigns packed with it and some very good premium and user created content as well, but not as much as the F-18 Surprisingly effective unguided bomb dropping capability that, to my knowledge, never got combat use in real life Laser guided bomb capability that was used extensively at the end of the Tomcat's service life. LANTIRN pod can be used from the RIO seat or can be handled by Jester with a very slick menu control system. The A-10 is just a lot of fun to blow stuff up with, especially with the helmet mounted cueing system in the A-10C II module Air to ground obviously decent variety of weapons BRRRRRRRT! Most complex avionics of the 3 Easy to fly I actually haven't tried refueling because it carries enough gas for some very long missions Pretty good premium content, Baltic Dragon's Enemy Within Campaign is fantastic Decent choice for the Liberation dynamic campaign BRRRRRRRT!
  4. To close the loop, I wasn't able to find anything that helped with the artifacts but I do have an observation after many tests. When viewing Flappie's track for the first time after launching DCS, I seldom see any visual artifacts until near the end of the track when looking over the shoulder at the burning helos. On subsequent views during the same DCS session, I see frequently occurring artifacts as soon as the the first MI-8 is hit.
  5. I get hit by single digit frame rates for about a minute, usually when I'm inbound on a strike target. Does your framerate go back to normal while paused? If so it's a safe bet that it's the same issue.
  6. I'll give that a shot. I'm also considering rolling back drivers but this has been happening for a while. Any idea what's the oldest radeon driver that should play nice with the current beta?
  7. No improvement. Renamed saved games\DCS.openbeta. Made 3 changes in graphics options: checked fullscreen, aspect ratio to 16x9, resolution to 1920x1080. Exited and copied your track into the new tracks folder. Ran the track and still got the glitches described above.
  8. I see the same glitches as Ithronwise in Flappie's track. Running a Radeon 5600XT. I've been seeing these glitches for a while now. Almost always occurs with smoke on screen but not every time there is smoke on screen. This track is the worst I've seen it. DxDiag.txt
  9. At the end of your mission you should see an orange circle near the given coordinates like this. It takes a little while for the circle to populate. For some reason I get extra circles when the map's zoomed out. Don't know what that's about. That's what I see, maybe I get extra circles and you get none?
  10. Thanks for the reply. Next question, how do I get my AI package elements to attack strike targets? I loaded Pickles with JDAMs and assigned her "strike" from the F10 menu but she just flew around at low altitude for a while, away from the mission coordinates and never dropped bombs.
  11. For my first 2 combat missions my strike tasks (assigned at the end of the previous mission) have been tank farms adjacent to buildings. What counts as a kill on these things? In my first attempt I bombed the tank in the middle. I have no idea if I completed the task but I got a different tank farm at the end of that mission, so maybe...?
  12. With the module being on sale, can some kind soul give a quick rundown on what features are still missing and yet to come?
  13. Thanks for the info!
  14. Can someone point me toward a good description of what's going on with the AIM-9 in today's OB? For instance, is it an annoyance that can be worked around or a loss of function? I would rather not upgrade and have to roll back if I can avoid it. Thanks
  15. I've found that VT makes a difference with CCIP bombing but it varies with target elevation. To get a good hit on the Nevada Map I had to set VT to 2200. 1500 seemed to do OK on the coast of Iran; I didn't try 1200 there but it sounds reasonable. CCRP always missed long with CBU-99s no matter what. Either something is busted or there is something about CBU-99 employment that we are missing.
  16. Welcome to the Flightsim Community! Here are a couple of videos that I think will help a lot. This one is in the F-18 but but it has a great explanation of case 3 procedures and coms: This one is a F-14 night time landing tutorial. It's a good tutorial and a bad landing. I highly recommend use of auto-throttle for F-14 carrier recoveries as demonstrated in the video. I've found the Grim Reapers' videos like the ones above and also Matt Wagner's videos to be very, very helpful in learning to fly these modules. Also, you didn't actually bolter. A bolter is when the hook fails to catch a wire and you fly off the end of the angled deck and have to go around again. Jester gets a little confused sometimes.
  17. Thanks for all the feedback. I wound up going with a 32" 1440p with good reviews that I found for a good price. https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gigabyte-g32qc Not ideal for 1080p but better for other stuff I do and more future proof. And after some tests with the Syria map, I think my machine might be able to handle 1440 well enough for my liking anyway.
  18. I tried downscaled 1440 to see how the frame rate hit went and I went from 50s to 40s over parts of the new Syria map. Need to do some more testing. 32" 1440 might be doable but they're a good $100 dollars more than the 1080p freesync monitors. On the other hand going from 22" to 27" might be a significant and relatively cheap upgrade. Thanks for the thoughts. Keep them coming.
  19. Trying to decide between 27 and 32 inch curved gaming monitors to run DCS at 1080p. I'm concerned that the pixel density might be too low at 32". Anyone have any experience with this? 1440p would require a pricy graphics card upgrade on top of a more expensive monitor so that's out.
  20. The training mission here helps a lot too. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=221412
  21. Setting restricted afterburner use in the mission editor seems to help some. It might be my imagination but I'm pretty sure they use AB less with this on. You can find it under advanced waypoint actions. Click add, and select set options. If you set it on waypoint 0 it should remain in effect for all additional waypoints unless you later set it to off. I think it's supposed to restrict but not eliminate afterburner use. Khopa could potentially set the mission to spawn with this on by default and maybe EPLRS for Aircraft like the F-18 while he's at it :) Also, it's always a good idea to load up on the external tanks for AI wingmen.
  22. I found these very helpful On speed AoA: Case 1 recovery: Grim Reapers Tutorials for F/A-18C: Carrier landing takes a ton of practice. Case 1 is probably the hardest thing to master in the Hornet. I can refuel from an S-3 now but I still get a lot of bolters and failing grades from the LSO during Case 1 recovery. I would much rather do a Case 3 at night and have 20 miles to get everything right than have 18 seconds to not kill myself on a Case 1 day pattern.
  23. I finished this last week and it's one of the best experiences I've had in DCS.
  24. I think Kaba may have used some kind of text to speech program for Cage the Bear. Might be worth experimenting with if you really want to add voice overs. I'm 3 missions in and the quality of the writing is top notch. I really appreciate that there is a strong narrative and more to do than go to waypoint 2 and blow stuff up. It's also very instructive and teaching me how to fly the F-14 better. Also the refueling "checkpoint" is brilliant.
