Darned sweet. Wish we coulda seen the missing man fly off into the clouds... and meet up with older aircraft from decades past on their way back to Heaven.....
-
Mine outs some serious cat-itude into the fight. He thinks I have a touch screen.
-
The -4 appears to have outfitted several squadrons in 45. So, eh, it has its place. I wouldn't like to see it in a European environment, but with a potential Raiden in the mix, sure - put her in the Pacific. I'd even go for a 1D, but.... It'll never happen, but replacing the K4 with Gs would take care of a lot of problems with the P-51D arguments. Is the -4 Corsair a "take that" for the de-tuned Mustang? Maybe it is, in some people's eyes, but it won't see many ETO applications, so that's a moot point. It's P-47 cousin will have to take up the banner for Europe. But that'll be a deadly tactical game to play, as the Jug MUST play its strengths to survive. Jerry pilots can relax....
-
Sure. Only the Axis planes get to be over-represented/ G model 109s were far more common that Ks. The corsair was a good plane, but not the beast you think it was. Don't get all worried about mismatches and such. Let the pony drivers have a little fun with something that works in the DCS world. I'm sure if we were only allowed to fight at 30K+ altitude, with the "usual" numerical superiority, Axis pilots would be groaning about that, too.

The 30 mm mess up the poor mustangs...

SHOT PLACEMENT -
AG-51 makes a great point. Corsairs had their issues in the freezing cold early in the effort, but they were great air support ships. That plane fits so well into late WWII and Korea that it really should be a no-brainer. I'm hoping to fly the P-47 and F4-U this year. We will see.

Challenges would be cool. Imagine the awesome videos that could be built. BUT, to make it "for real", maybe they could be done live, with vid recording backup, on a scheduled meet on a certain server. A "DCS Air Show!" An "Ash Trash" fly in. Is there a spectator feature on MP that allows for decent "spectator" viewing? Imagine the possibilities. Reserved aircraft, and "grandstand" of sorts, and an announcer. ((Chat window?)) With the best pilots out there, it might be worth a dollar PayPal donation to attend the event. I know. I know. Just day dreaming..... but I'd love to see the best having at it and showing off. I'd crank up the bass and ask forgiveness of the wife later if it came to it.

LOL!!! Yup. 2.0 NTTR teaser flight. So the pilot does it horizontally to counterpoint the vertical squeeze. Nicely done. :smartass:
-
Very nice share. Thank you.

No. The scale of it is amazing. I'm going to continue to sit patiently and see what they accomplish. With all the build-up, it will be make or break.

+1 on that. Drainpipe would be AWESOME.....
-
Not sure I could afford the Rift, but I do fly with the TIR5. A cervical injury makes the TIR the sensible answer for me.
-
I was able to tag along with the DoW members on the first night of play for this new mission, "Operation Drainpipe." As the FNG, there wasn't a whole lot of responsibility placed on me, but I went up with bombs and rockets anyway. Even managed to turn my plane into a fire marker for a target, "popping smoke" as it were. The mission requirements for the good guys are: - Locate and destroy enemy Command Bunker and compound (2 targets). Bombs required for bunker, rockets or guns for the other. This disables AAA and spawns a flight of bombers. - Hook up with and defend the bomber flight from nasty bad guys in red. - Watch with joy as the bombers wipe out the port facility from 12K. BLUE - With enough players, CAP can be assigned to protect Mustang strikes during the initial phase. RED - RedFor has the rather fun task of killing Mustangs laden with bombs and rockets, and /or the bombers. It is a shooting gallery for the Red team. This simulation has massive potential for coordinated play and team strategy. Because of the pressure placed upon both sides by the time limits built into it, this mission also begs for a tactical commander for each side. Resources have to be assigned and reassigned as this battle moves forward. It really is TWO mission in one, with the success of the second half resting completely on the effective prosecution of the first. RedFor has opportunity to win this mission simply by being a pain in the arse. DELAY. This is one of those missions that could be advertised in advance for many players to attend a reserved game. I would hope 3 or 4 would record the mission for some awesome playback video. Speaking of videos, this one is taken from my perspective, so a lot of the action is not first-person, but all of the comms are present, as the flight was working on TeamSpeak3. (I strongly encourage any and all pilots to get on DoW's TeamSpeak server. It makes the experience vastly more fun.) This 6 minute video captures the final rendezvous with the bomber flight, the approach to the target area, the loss of a bomber, and the beautiful destruction of the port filmed live as I'm banking overhead. I drive the Stang exclusively. I'm not a very good pilot, so I get hit quite a bit. From my perspective, a couple hits does a lot of damage. Then again, I present a good target, so most hits are good hits - and they kill the plane. I know from talking with vets, that placement is key. If you don't hit vital structure, you don't cause vital damage. Assuming your three hits will knock a plane out of the sky is silly if you're passing through sheet metal skin and air. You have to hits structure or critical equipment /pilot. A lot of things are blamed on components other than the attacking pilot. just sayin....

I find that if I hold the oil cooler "open" for a 12-15 count, I can be much more aggressive in turn fighting. Now, I'm not that good a pilot, so assume that my air flow trhough the rad stinks, due to wild movements. But I don't overheat... I can climb after a fight and not be pegged.... So, I dunno.... seems to me the open door option really is an option. Can't tell you if the modeling is correct, though.

DCS WWII: Europe 1944 Server Question
HeadHunter52 replied to DieHard's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I could see missions where players arrive at a set time - scheduled. They are assigned slots in a game where they are already flying. Formations on both sides - bombers included... Help get new guys into the fight quickly. -
:smilewink: THAT right there is some creative sleuthing! Might not be correct, but the way these guys like to tease everyone, it could just be spot on. Nice observations! The tease-releases of WiP are just that, works in progress, but they should have some key points in common with the planned final product. Seeing the guesses made on these things is like watching a detective story. Makes for a darned good read. The way people think is fascinating.

Issues with 4K resolution and monitor
HeadHunter52 replied to ESA Dodo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah, age has its pluses and minuses. I guess those of us with age eye issues simply have to concede that it would be similar to that for us if we were up there doing that with these old eyeballs. Instead of Flying Tigers, is it Blind Tigers? LOL! -
Not to derail things but, my pop was a radar/gunsight tech on F-86s just a few years after WWII. Some guys in his shop were WWII vets with euro theater experience. He told me that these guys were all about tuning and tweaking and twisting things and working with their pilots to achieve specific goals. Every gunfighter likes his 6-shooter to work like he prefers. I can't imagine Korea was any different than Europe just because a plane had a candle up its ass. Boiled down it's like this: crews were tied to their officers and tossing the manual aside in preference for their pilots was common place. I don't think we'd a won the damned war if the manuals were treated like God's holy Word. Anecdotes get a bad rap, maybe because what a lot of guys were able to do with their brains and wrenches and some cans of glue just went beyond the experience of engineers and historians alike. Ingenuity. We used to have it in spades.

ME-262? Oh geeez. In terms of numbers, it wasn't even a player. Now we're digging into it....
-
Those two aren't even close, mechanically.

Germany Map I would be very happy to see a Germany map that allows for fatherland raids. Force the German fighters up to 30K+ with Mustangs flying escort (maybe some P-38s) and watch the whole game change. Intelligent AI bombers working raids on airfields, among other targets. Campaign, made up of scheduled missions, could be a real kicker. Right now, and even with a Normandy map, we have low level missions that are just, well...... low level............ P-47 with proper mods and paddle prop will balance it out. Id' love to see if the armor and general ruggedness make their way into the fabric of the sim.
