Antenna Elevation Control and TGP Zoom
Captain Orso replied to Captain Orso's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Yes, I thought about that too. I want BOTH *gasp!!* to work ergonomically. RFI I guess. *bzzap* wrong, but thank you for playing the game  Ergonomics is not bending yourself into pretzels to fit someone else's schema, but making the scheme fit to body and mind. -
I don't know why you are calling it an option, but without the IRMV as the active A/G weapon, it works perfectly on the TGP. Only when IRMV is selected does it stop working on the TGP, even when the TGP is the SOI.

I have a TM Warthog HOTAS and use the throttle coolie switch up and down to control the antenna elevations up and down, and it works like a charm :) But the assigned coolie switch is then automatically also the TGP zoom in and out switch, because on the Real-World™ Hornet HOTAS the Antenna Switch doubles as the TGP zoom in/out switch. Coolie switch up for antenna up and coolie switch down for antenna down is intuitive and ergonomic, for me anyway. But on the TGP things look different. Coolie switch down (push motion with the finger) is to me logically zoom-in, and coolie switch up (pull motion with the finger) is zoom-out. Logically to me. The problem is, the TGP zoom works exactly opposite of that. Up = zoom-in and down = zoom-out  I there any way to fix this, to be logical, at least in my eyes?

I have the Delta Sim mod on my throttle since about a year, but IIRC with the original TM slew switch you could also press and slew as well. Currently with the Delta Sim mod anyway there's just nowhere I can find to use it. I turned "Real TDC slew" on and could still slew in the TGP exactly the same as without "Real TDC slew". Or am I mucking something up here again. Wouldn't be the first time

I could see the offset being useful, if I wanted to try to acquire a different nearby target, if it allowed me to maintain the current target until I could manage to get the new target locked up. Or if not, just fall back onto the old target, which already is locked up. Everything else are just stumbling blocks and obstacles to the easy use of the TGP.

I have a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS Throttle. I'm using the 3-way FLAPS switch for... well, flaps :) Forward = Cruise Middle = Auto Aft = STOL If I operate the switch at a slow speed, it always works perfectly; eg switch-pause-switch. If flaps are on STOL is I push the switch straight through to Cruise, in-cockpit it never arrives at cruise; it always hangs at auto. If I go into windows 10 -> Control Panel -> Throttle - HOTAS Warthog -> (right-click) Game controller settings -> Throttle - HOTAS Warthog -> Properties, pushing quickly from full aft to full forward works perfectly; eg jumps from button 22 on to button 23 on - no problem. I also have the F/A-18C configured exactly the same, just progressing from up to half to full and back. If I push the switch through from one end to the other, it always just works - it never hangs. Could you please have a look at this? Thanks.

Pro tip: put a dab of hot-glue on the tip of the slew button. It gives you excelt grip and makes it easier to press for button1.

To Go Forward, you must first go back... The Navy parks Harriers facing diagonally toward the stern of the ship not diagonally toward the bow

In-Game Scratchpad Mod Available - Works Great In VR!
Captain Orso replied to Fubarbrickdust's topic in Virtual Reality
Here's a hint for both you guys: USE VERSION NUMBERS!! :music_whistling: That way you can maybe discover and announce which version of which package works with which and eliminate confusion. -
That was exactly my point. Until a couple weeks ago, the TDC-slew worked. Only now is it borked.

Stabilized targeting mode doesn't follow moving targets. For that you must use Point Tracking. Of course since your target is already moving and 'the game' -- that's what I'm going to start calling it -- doesn't allow you to slew in Point Tracking mode, you must first go to stabilized tracking mode, position your pointer to in front of where the vehicle is moving, and when the vehicle arrives at the pointer press the SCS twice in the direction of the TGP DDI to switch to Point Tracking mode. The TGP should then latch on to the moving target and follow it for as long as the TGP is looking at it.
-
If the TGP is in Area Track or Point Track modes, it can no longer be slewed. Press SCS toward the DDI with the TGP open in it to designate it as the SOI. Press the SCS further in the same direction to toggle through the targeting modes until your reach stabilized targeting mode, which you can slew. Alternatively, press and hold TDC-Depress to activate the offset cross and slew that to your new target. If you are happy with your new target, designate it by pressing TDC-Depress, although the mode will then jump to the next (stabilized -> area -> point ->). Personally, I think the whole thing is wrong. Only being able to slew in stabilized targeting mode seems silly to me. Why would anyone do that? It's pointless and makes everything twice as complicated and take more than twice as long to use. It worked fine for years before someone decided to screw with it. Now, to me, it feels like the TGP has been sabotaged. The Harrier with the same Litening Pod can slew when in both area and point track modes, but if in point track and you slew away from a vehicle, it will revert to area track, but if you point to a vehicle again, it will automatically switch back to point track mode. So easy to use, so simple, no BS, just functionality.

Pressing the slew button/stick on the TM HOTAS Throttle is a button press. Go into OPTIONS -> CONTROLS (F/A-18C Sim) -> category selection (Throttle Grip) -> Throttle Designator Controller - Depress -> if already assigned, (<left-click> [Clear]), <left-click> [Add] -> press the slew/stick button on your throttle to assign it -> <left-click> [OK].

Capto glove - any users? Any good?
Captain Orso replied to markturner1960's topic in Virtual Reality
The VR cockpit is not aware of your arms or elbows*. VR only sees the IR-LEDs or reflectors imbedded in your gloves/whatever, depending on your system. Also waving your hand around the virtual cockpit should also not do anything. Operating a switch requires using a specific gesture from my understanding. To flip a switch up or down, it's not enough to wave your hand past the switch. You have to point to the switch and then flick your finger up or down. * I know there is full-body tracking, but I don't believe DCS does anything with that, thank goodness. -
Not sure why your gloved hands are appearing inside the virtual cockpit, but do they have anything like a home-position setting that you can setup, and that when your hand(s) is/are inside the home-position they aren't shown in VR?
-
How about just learning to start by yourself? 9/10 of autostart is, "check that switch, check that one, and check those two there, ..." when they almost all start per default in the correct position already. Set INS alignment to always be pre-aligned, and you can startup and be on your way within 60 seconds easily.

Not sure what the cause of your issue is, but never, ever, Ever use caps-lock as a meta-key... EVER. Caps-lock has it's own rules for locking and unlocking and very often does not play well with between Windows and other apps. Do yourself a favor and use a different key. Just pretend that caps-lock doesn't exist.

Ideas? Ummm... what difference does it make? What exactly is your question?

Capto glove - any users? Any good?
Captain Orso replied to markturner1960's topic in Virtual Reality
All those VR gloves and finger-pointing devices can never compensate for your real-world equipment not corresponding 100% to the virtual world cockpit. Eventually you will be going to operate some switch or dial and bang in to your throttle, or a switch box, or even just your table top. The coordination required to hold your hand hovering in the air -- not wavering or drifting off the virtual instrument floating in the air -- while you turn a dial or whatever will be not only very taxing but more and more difficult through fatigue the longer your flight session lasts. Have you ever seen the instrument panels of an old aircraft? Ever notice all the warn down areas around switches and dials. They occur through many years the pilot's finger resting on the instrument panel to keep their hand from wavering while using dials and switches. There's no need for a hovering hand in your virtual cockpit, which will never be coordinated with your real world equipment. You don't need 100% freedom to move your virtual hand within the 3 dimensional virtual room. You never need to have your pointer be anywhere other than exactly on a switch or dial when not on your HOTAS. All you need is a system to move the pointer from one switch to another and then to operate that switch or whatever. No in between positions, no accidentally moving off the switch. That can be operated completely with a cheap, easy to use mouse or a trackball. 100 time better solution for 1% of the cost. -
F2 Camera - Visible aircraft parameters in VR
Captain Orso replied to Terzi's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Turn on the Info Bar. The Info Bar has the location, hight, heading, and speed of the aircraft you are viewing. I think the default toggle is LCtrl-z. -
Use it with actual targets, and not just over empty ground. Also, from my experience if you push TDC to the furthest in any direction is simply stops and sometimes won't start again without playing around with it until it decides to start moving again.

Ship target type is not yet implemented. It should have the Maverick aim for just above the waterline when it works. That being said, a long while back I did fire some Mavericks at a ships. The hit somewhere on the superstructure, but they hit.

SUNTSAG - Lockdown Mods/Liveries Collection (New and Revised)
Captain Orso replied to SUNTSAG's topic in DCS Modding
Hi SUNTSAG, thanks for the reply. And the R&R tiles server only cocktails? :D On my test mission the next town is a couple km distant, so probably too far away to pick up a name. The DCS FARPs use a list of major cities like London and Paris, etc. It's such a shame that ED doesn't make AM2 mats to standard structures. I would so love to see these included in MP missions, like Hoggit's At War servers, for use with Harriers and Grippens. Would be awesome. -
I honestly forgot the ground radar as I haven't even looked into how it works  I guess I'm mixing up the Hornet with the Harrier with the bore sighting
