  1. From DCS 2.5.6.52196 Open Beta change log 1. Why are we going backwards?!?! This was a specific request to NOT require two steps to operate the lever to close the fuel valve. 2. Clicking -- or trying to click -- the thumb-release button does NOTHING, so what now, am I forced to assign a switch to this, so I need 2 switched assigned to shut off the fuel lever?!?! At the very least have one bind for release the lock and lift the lever, and if some fool wants to have separate switches for each, let them. That would not be my problem.
  2. There IS at least one very huge bug. Do the following: - Enter straight and level flight at about 450 kts. - Trim to hold straight and level flight without controls inputs. - Engage AFC and Alt Hold. - Use trim hat to enter in the the tightest turn AFC will allow -- you can get to about 45° bank I think. - Disengage AFC and using controls (no trim) to return to straight and level flight. - Release controls and allow them to return to the neutral center positions and note the results. Your nose will climb and may start to turn in the direction you turn with ARC. Either trimming is not disengaged while AFC is active, or RB is using trim to steer the aircraft. When your leave AFC trim remains as it was in AFC. It used to be the perfect method to trim your aircraft for straight and level flight that you simply enageed AFC and Alt Hold and then disengage AFC and your aircraft was perfectly trimmed. To return to default neutral trim, hit emergency SAAHS disengage and everything is reaset.
  3. Go to the Controls setting for the aircraft you are flying, select the General group, look for "Infobar view toggle". Configure it to whatever you wish, use as desired.
  4. :doh: Before you absolutely go crazy trying to learn to fly on the Spitfire, there is maybe only one other aircraft in DCS worse to learn on, which would be the Bf-109K4. I learned on the P-51D. I would have learned on the TF-51D, but I got the P-51 on sale at the time, I it was just more fun if I actually got her into the air, that I could strafe the airfield a bit before crashing on my landing attempt :D Anyway, that would be the simplest solution. Someone mentioned the Yak-52 actually being a trainer, but of course, there's no instructor in the back seat, so I don't think there is much of a point to it, although I may be wrong. Trainers are not made to be easy to fly. They are made to actually show the mistakes a pilot in training is making, so that the instructor cans see what he needs to work on. The thing with learning a propeller aircraft is that you actually learn to fly an aircraft and not just point it in a direction and use the jet to power it toward where you want it to go. BTW there is so much more to propeller aircraft than just torque, as someone insinuated. That's like saying, to learn to drive a car all you have to learn is which way to turn the steering wheel.

  6. I believe the FOV can only refer to the selected sensor, because there are too many which might be possible at one point in time. Sensors with FOV are: TPOD: CCD (TV-Camera), and FLIR, each have wide and narrow FOV, while LST has wide, narrow, and HUD widths. DMT: has only one FOV for TV and FLIR, but the same FOV for LST as the TPOD, IIRC. AGM-65F/G IR-Maverick: has wide and narrow FOV. AGM-65D/E: I'm not sure if the missiles themselves actually have search capability as with IRMV's. I've read that if an LMAV loses the laser pointer for any reason there is no way for it to regain it, which would speak for it not having any search capability. Regardless of all that, the AG undesignate/etc/etc along with the special shortcuts of the SSS about half the time do not work properly at all.
  7. I used AFC extensively before the latest update, and I recently tried it out again since the update. 1. Adjusting the flight attitude through the trim-hat is now far quicker that it used to be. In some cases you can use the trim-hat to put the airframe into such a position that is actually jumps out of AFC. 2. It used to be that if you activated AFC that the aircraft would be trimmed perfectly. And attitude variance was controlled as if the stick were holding the attitude. If at any time your turned AFC off, the aircraft remained in its current attitude -- including the prefect trimm -- and you could easily simply start controlling the aircraft through stick and pedals without issue yourself. 3. Now when trying to change the attitude through stick input, the aircraft seems to try to ignore input, changing only very minimally. If you use larger stick input, you break out of AFC. 4. If you do break out of AFC while the aircraft is holding a fairly a high rate of turn, you discover that the turn was not caused by AFC manipulating the stick, but by manipulating trim. If you put the stick in its neutral center position you will veer sharply in the direction you were turning in AFC and the noxe will pull up sharply, until you neutralize trim. 5. You used to be able to start ATH during AFC as long as you didn't have more than about 5° climb or dive (in reallity it should be restricted by the actual feet/minutes climb or dive rate, but I don#t recall what the numbers are. Now, even while being fairly close to 0° nose up or down, ATH will not catch, especially if you had been in AFC/ATH and ATH broke out, bc you pulled the nose up or pushed it down. For me the worst things are, in this order: - Trim used to fly the aircraft and not the stick (aircraft not trimmed when ARC switched off with AFC switch). - Reaction to stick inputs too slow. - ATH won't catch if the aircraft previously broke out of it.

  9. So, you engage AFC and the nose starts climbing, and the solution (immediate solution) is to pull on the stick... and then? Is AFC still active? What if you push the stick forwards -- which would be my automatic reaction to an unwanted climb behaviour.

  11. Define "AI planes". I haven't tried this in ages, but static aircraft have always (used to) taken extreme amounts of damage before they are checked off or even show damage. Maybe things have improved sometime over the last year or so, but I've not seen nor heard about it. TIP: if you are setting up a mission and want to have target aircraft on the ground that work like real aircraft, use real AI aircraft, but set them to "Uncontrolled". They will then be damaged like real AI aircraft and you can even use different liveries and bort numbers if you like.
  12. From my experience -- and I use AFC a lot -- you have to hold the aircraft's attitude within the AFC constraints -- which are fairly generous -- and be fairly stable in flight, to activate AFC. Trimming is not necessary at all. In fact, using AFC is the best way I know to get your aircraft perfectly trimming in the shortest amount of time, because AFC sets up your trim for stable flight. Then simply disengage AFC (NOT emergency cancel) and you are perfectly trimmed.
  13. The 3-way switch on the left fuselage wall is the master switch. You first have to set the anti-collision and position lights, on the left instrument panel directly below the master switch. I've tried them. They all appear to work, although the position lights on bright settings seem to flicker a lot.
  14. Dear RAZBAM, I appreciate all the work and effort you are putting into your products. As with everything in life, there is always room for improvement. I would behoove you to take some few steps in presenting a professional organization, starting with deciding and presenting a single point from which all information can be found. I recently discovered that newer iterations of the pocket guide are presented for download on the RAZBAM internet site. This information is completely missing from the ED/DCS forum, which is where I would expect to find such information. After downloading this hidden gem, I discovered that there is no publication information; neither publication date nor version or document number, so I cannot tell which document is newer. This is kind of the A and O of publishing documentations and something no professional organization would neglect. I've often read references to statements made in Discord or on other platforms. If it is of any importance, having said it on Discord is worthless and lost to the world except for a very tiny number of individuals who may have see it at the time. This is one of the best ways to alienate your customers who are then left out in the rain and feel like 'second class in the eyes of RAZBAM', because you impart your information on the select few. This is one of the reasons I find Discord to be one of the worst PERIOD ways to disseminate PERIOD information PERIOD ever invented PERIOD. At the very best it's good for a pre-mission chat room, and nothing more. At any rate, for information, which if forgotten tomorrow, it would not bother a single person. The forum makes a perfectly good platform for doing a dev blog and presenting thoughts and less formal information, and being centrally located accessible to all - which means, everyone knows where to find it, which can only increase the usefulness of the information. A couple of days ago, after the TGP was updated, Wags put up a couple of videos on the changes and IIRC somewhere in the forum he said that using CCD (TV camera) was only effective at fairly close range, like under 6 or 7 nm, while IR worked far better. The reasoning being that there is not enough contrast for the computer to recognize a vehicle -- if you're using area target and just pointing at the ground it doesn't make any difference. Funny thing is, in the Harrier with the same targeting pod you can use the CCD well over 10 nm. In fact it's the only way I use it. Circle at between 10 and 15 nm while evaluating the situation, then pick a target and run in. IR is a catastrophe right now. It has nothing to do with realistic IR visuals, at all. Someone a long time ago decide that trees and bushes are often hot like vehicles driving down the street, just because. Even in the middle of the night after no sun has shone on them for hours, and in the middle of a downpour with 5°c cold rain pouring down on them, countless number of them are all over the map making it nearly impossible to find any targets with IR. ED has said that they are working on a completely new IR environment, but I am not counting on 2 weeks, but more like 2 years, before we see anything of it.

  17. Really?! In the Harrier CCIP is the delivery method of choice. Auto is if the situation demands it, like you can't get the cross-hair on the target in time, or you cannot dive in because of AAA. CCIP is more accurate than AUTO/CCRP.
  18. Try doing SEAD at 25k feet vs SA-10. EW gently informs you of a double launch at you and you're trying to do some sweeping turns to bleed their energy, but eh air is about as thick as pea soup. Later while trying to land LSO informs you that your wings are folded ... :huh: :D

  22. I have a Thrustmaster Throttle & Stick HOTAS. I NEVER use target. I map only in DCS. Not sure what you mean by DX mapping. I almost always use the Paddle on the stick as a modifier and in the Harrier also the throttle-thumb-hat depress is a modifier. What do you mean by, "'shifted (modifier)"?
  23. It may be easy for you to use, but not for most. It was one of the first things people noted when VR just came onto the market, that aiming with your head is awkward and takes getting used to. That is the opposite of intuitive. Because ED generally leaves things in the 'good enough' box when they aren't direct HW simulation. Can you designate what switch you want to operate, regardless of how awkward and taxing it is? Yes? Then it's 'good enough'. Read the thread. There are many who wish for this very much. If we had it and you didn't want to use it, then just don't use it. Simple as that. You make no point other than, 'meh, I don't want it'. Then turn around and go away, because this thread is for people to discuss a solution they would like to have implemented to make their experience better. You bring nothing to the table that will make anything better for anyone.
  24. I've mapped a lot of things to my HOTAS, also very many using modifiers. I don't have LIDS bound to anything, because... why? It's not like I'd ever use it.
