.. and the Harrier Definitely a must!
-
Believe it or not, but I only just put my ass into the pilot's seat of the A-10C for the very first time a couple of days ago, and it had the honor for it to be the A-10C II -- don't say I never do anything for you, my ass. And when I discovered that the II doesn't have kneeboard chapter markers, I was disappointed to say the least. I was expecting the II to be all modernized. DCS 2020 state of the art. TL;DR? Pretty please. Make this reality. It would be so useful, just like in the other aircraft, which have it.

[AS INTENDED]Some Controls Appear Twice
Captain Orso replied to Captain Orso's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
But I have lots of default assignments. I have a TM Warthog HOTAS, and nearly everything is on default assignment, but only these few have double-entries, which I guess I'm grateful for now  -

No, they are not. They have an aperture opening as well as a rheostat IIRC; I'm certain about the aperture opening though.

You say "pod" but then you talk about the DMT. Those are two distinctly different things. Have the Litening II Targeting Pod mounted. On the right MFCD, press MENU (OSB 18 ) until TPOD appears next to OSB 13. Press OSB 13. STBY will appear next to OSB 15 and TDC next to OSB 14. Press OSB 14 to underline TDC, then OSB 15 to call up the TPOD display on the right hand MFCD. You now have two possibilities: 1. a. Double-click SSS-Down (press twice in <0.8 sec. to switch to HTS mode. b. Maneuver to point the velocity vector (VV) on the HUD at target area on the ground. c. Press TDC-Down to mark the area under the VV as a target. d. Double-click SSS-Down to return to TDC mode. e. Us the TDC slew to sweeten your targeting aim. 2. While still in TDC mode, use the TDC to slew the target carrot (diamond) onto a target (TPOD must be using CCD (TV) oder FLIR to display on the right hand MFCD). Target must be within the areas the TPOD camera can actually view. Partly depends on weapons loadout. Laterally, larger bombs and missiles can block the view of the TPOD. Forward you can slew the camera to above the horizon. To the rear you can slew to about 30° past the absolute vertical.

I agree. It's good, where it works. I still use it. But if there's a bug or something not working with a new model, I would be hard pressed to say anything encouraging about the prospects of getting a resolution.

Someone might try PM'ing Alaska. He hasn't written anything in this thread since June -- four months ago -- and that was one of his rare appearances. I think this can more or less be considered abandon-ware.

In the Harrier forums, an issue was reported that IR missiles were not hitting the Harrier: [NO BUG] IR missiles does not track Harrier anymore. After doing some testing with SA-18 IGLA MANPADs, with Harrier and Hornet as targets, I believe I've proven that the issue is not the Harrier, but the missiles. I setup a mission with 10 IGLA MANPADS building a corridor for the target aircraft to fly through. Results against the Hornet: 24 SA-18's were fired on 2 passes of the "gauntlet". Of those 24 SA-18's fired, 7 actually hit. The rest flew passed and exploded at their EOL. Of the 7 hits, 6 were from a front or side aspect angle. Of the 17 misses, 7 were from the front or side aspect angle, and 10 were from the rear; most from within about a 30° cone to the rear of the target aircraft. - I flew the target straight and steady at about 350-360 kts at about 2000 feet ASL with the ground at about 65 feet ASL. did no jinking or in any way attempted to avoid missiles. With this kind of easy target, I'm wondering why ANY missiles missed. This should have been a turkey-shoot. I would have expected the only thing distracting an SA-18 would be the fireball of a previous, exploding SAM. Mission, track file, and Tacview linked from above thread: IR-SAM_Test02.miz IRSAM Test02.trk Tacview-20200929-032655-DCS-IR-SAM_Test02.txt.zip -- I only added the Harrier and Hornets, because I don't fly any other jets, but mission is attached, and you may add what ever aircraft or SAM you wish to test. I've set the aircraft to IMMORTAL, because I only wanted to record hits, and not damage. I use VARS excellent racing pylons as visual queues for lining up with the center of the gauntlet. I'm not sure if the mission will run without them. If it does, but you still don't want to use the pylons, just follow the wayponits. They will bring your around full circle, so that you can run the gauntlet as often as you wish -- MANPADs will eventually run out of missiles, and I did not arrange for rearming, so you might want to keep that in mind. Once mission has started, simply fly up the middle (follow waypoints and/or racing pylons. Save your track file and/or record Tacview. Review and enjoy. --- Edit: Management Summery: Removed VARS Pylons, because you cannot load the mission without them, even if you just want to remove them, and I had the older version of VARS pylons installed, so even if you installed the VARS pylons from above, you'd still not be able to load the mission. Replaced them with DCS generic racing pylons. Attached updated mission 'IR SAM Test03 IGLA.miz'. Enjoy. IR SAM Test03 IGLA.miz

[NO BUG] IR missiles does not track Harrier anymore.
Captain Orso replied to unhappytroll's topic in Resolved Bugs
The tacview file. Edit: An issue with IR Missiles was reported in the DCS World 2.5 forum, where I've reported my findings: Stinger (in General IR missiles) vs Helicopters. If you are interested, you may wish to read that thread. Tacview-20200929-032655-DCS-IR-SAM_Test02.txt.zip -
[NO BUG] IR missiles does not track Harrier anymore.
Captain Orso replied to unhappytroll's topic in Resolved Bugs
So, I setup a more precise test. I set the Hornet to imortal, because I only want to measure the number of hits and misses and not aircraft damage. I kept track of whether hits and misses were from the front/side or rear (completely subjectively - you may categorize them differently). 24 SA-18's were fired on 2 passes of the "gauntlet" of 10 MANPADs. Of those 24 SA-18's fired, 7 actually "hit", which means it detonated near its target. The rest flew passed and exploded at their EOL. Of the 7 hits, 6 were from a front or side aspect angle. Of the 17 misses, 7 were from the front or side aspect angle, and 10 were from the rear; most from within about a 30° cone to the rear of the target aircraft. I flew the target straight and steady at about 350-360 kts at about 2000 feet ASL with the ground at about 65 feet ASL. did no jinking or in any way attempted to avoid missiles. With this kind of easy target, I'm wondering why ANY missiles missed. This should have been a turkey-shoot. I would have expected the only thing distracting an SA-18 would be the fireball of a previous, exploding SAM. Mission and track files attached here. Tacview in followup post, because of forum constraints. IR-SAM_Test02.miz IRSAM Test02.trk -
[NO BUG] IR missiles does not track Harrier anymore.
Captain Orso replied to unhappytroll's topic in Resolved Bugs
1. It's not just the Harrier, I've seen it on the Hornet as well (the only two jet aircraft I fly, so I only tested those two). 2. To say IR-SAM's don't track at all, is plainly wrong, but their performance is clearly miserable. In fact, SA-18 IGLA's approaching from the front seem to hit more often that from the rear vs both aircraft. Something is definitely amis. Edit: small mission for demonstration purposes attached. Just fly straight ahead and observer the antics, especially if you use flairs when passing the first few of the 10 IGLA's to see SA-18's coming from the rear and shooting passed you without exploding. This is completely WAD. Once the engine has been spooled up through the APU and the igniters are sparking, you still must advance the throttle from STOP to IDLE for the engine to start.

For bombs and rockets, you must use a trigger zones named 'target1'. You can add up to 'target9' IIRC. Place some static object in the center of each target zone for aiming purposes -- something from '476 Range Targets' like 'Conventional Circle A' works perfectly. Don't place the target trigger zone inside a strafe pit area. Keep them separate -- different weapons, different ranges.

Please RAZBAM, this is broken in more ways than one. Firstly, there is a precedent for not having to 'unlatch' a device before operating it in the canopy. The Canopy Locking Lever is easily accessible by mouse-click, and yet it is not necessary to first operate the Canopy Locking Lever to open the canopy; simply hit LCTRL+C, or whatever you have it bound to, and zip the Canopy Locking Lever releases and the canopy slides open, all in one action. With the Fuel Shutoff Lever Lock Release Button, it cannot even be accessed with the mouse!! This forces you to assign one of your precious few controller switches -- I'm in VR, so keyboard commands are not viable -- to first release the lock, and then a second to move the lever. It was just fine after having removed the requirement to use the release button. Not a complaint or even comment was registered, aside from praise for the requirement being removed. Please FIX this again.

How to permanently apply a livery (MP, SP, AI) ?
Captain Orso replied to itarrow's topic in AV-8B N/A
That's not possible. It's always mission dependant. The mission creator sets the liver for each aircraft during mission creation. In SP in the briefing phase you can change your livery, and in SP and MP while at a location where you can rearm and refuel (generally a friendly airfield), you can also change your livery. -
I'll try to keep my answer as short and concise as possible. You need a bug-tracking tool. The forum is not and never will be that. People are sloppy, hurried, and lazy. It's like if at tax-time you pull out the cardboard box you've been dumping all your papers into and start working through and finding it full of suff from last year, advertisements -- some of which you used to write down important information, so you can't just throw them away -- and year for year, everything lands in the same box; it's totally disorganized and gets worse every year, unless you just say, everything below 5 inches in is probably irrelevant, so I just won't dig deeper than that. Maybe it works, and maybe you screw yourself. But tools are only as good as the master using them. Since you cannot grant access to a bug tool to every person in the forum, you need to forum as your big, cardboard box, to allow everyone to drop their bills, etc. into. Then you need to sort, and that starts with marking the thread as a bug -- if it actually reports one -- every time. If it's an already reported bug, it would be good if important information is in the redundant thread is moved to the actual thread. It may be a good idea to edit thread names to better reflect the actual bug. It may be necessary to split thread if multiple bugs are reported -- there is far too much, "oh, and another thing I saw..." Managing a community is not just being cordial and friendly, but organizing the community and the resources they provide, and that's a lot of work. Be consistent, and be concise, and straight forward so that everyone knows where they stand with you. That will bring you a long way. Nothing is worse than feeling ignored and not knowing where you stand with someone else. What ever you do here in this wilderness of a forum, I wish you success and that you will enjoy the work with the community. Best of luck to you. Captain Orso

When I think what they did with JL, I'm not sure what your message is...

I see. If it works for you, it's fixed, everyone else be damned. How mature smh.

Also, remember, more than -1g on the wing is a big no-no.

This is like saying, I want to go to a doctor who will checks my teeth for caries, and my general oral hygiene and health, who can fix caries and other health issues with my teeth, and do preventative medical treatments, but I don't want to go to a dentist..... If you had said, I don't like the DCS FARP's and the ones from SUNTSAG are fine for SP, but you won't find them in MP, I would agree 100%. But that's not what OP asked about. AI aircraft don't rearm or refuel at all. It's just not within in their programmed abilities, unfortunately :(

Ability to set planes waypoints in game

I could live with an external DTC app and being able to load during play. -
Ability to set planes waypoints in game
Captain Orso replied to sylkhan's topic in DCS Core Wish List
And just how would I do any of that in the middle of a 4+ hour MP mission? -
Yes, WAD (Works As Designed). Set channel et all in advanced waypoint tasks. Range is just over 15nm, at least from an F/A-18C flying between 10 and 20k.
