Lots of great suggestions here for sure... Another is the Cold War server... Try to sync with a GCI schedule... Get SRS for at least the squad lead. Whomever is the squad lead should jump into ColdWar early and get an understanding of which channel GCI uses etc. Just sit on the ground and change channels and listen. I can't remember if GCI/Magic/Overlord is channels 1/2/3. You can also use the automated voice controlled GCI if you prefer. Just hold the right SRS Push to Talk and say "Overlord Ahsoul 1-1 request picture" and it will tell you what the picture is. "Overlord Ahsoul 1-1 Bogey Dope" will have it give you a BRA call. "Overlord Ahsoul 1-1 Vector to home plate" will make it tell you where to go to re-fuel/re-arm. There are other commands that are also useful. Just listen to other people using it on that channel. You'll need to set your squad names to be "something 1-1 | Nickname" so AI overlord understands who's speaking... and your squad name needs to be recognizable by AI overlord. So... ahsoul 1-1 may not work... but asshole 1-1 probably would... Setup your comms to have a squad com channel either through SRS (aircraft's radios will work to set a channel frequency for yourselves) or through discord or whatever you're using. Have your squad leader in SRS at least and on the correct channel for the GCI. Announce to the GCI that you're a 2, 3, 4 ship of whatevers, where you're taking off from and what you'd like to do (CAP, CAS, wreck everything on the scope...) whatever... And the GCI will vector you to live targets. They will even do things like use your flight tactically :)... which is SUPER fun. Learn to understand BRA calls and relay them to your squad. Direct your squad as you see fit based on the BRA calls from the GCI. It's OK to be new at MP. You'll be targets at first but that's fine. Use team tactics and a GCI and that will QUICKLY change :).

AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
M1Combat replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
I would try the adjustment. I suspect when loading textures it will force both the CPU and GPU frame to wait for the textures. I don't know if it's the solution but it's low hanging fruit regarding time investment. Like almost quicker than these two extra messages :). Just one more thing to be sure is off the list. -

I would try to eliminate texture loading real quick first. If you know that the stutter occurs at "exactly" the same place etc from takeoff I'd adjust the pre-load and the ground textures in turn and see if it changes. What kind of drive is DCS on? Windows? -

I've been preaching the "Don't stop unless you need to" thing for years. The first thing most new heli pilots do is start asking "What's the best way to get to a stable hover?" I always reply "Don't... a stable hover is the most dangerous kind of hover." I mean clearly it has it's uses... but I always try to teach people that they need to work on SA first, moving as effectively as possible in their SA envelope, stay low and learn how to slow down without gaining altitude. That said... NOT a real heli pilot here... but I do have a good number of hours in sim heli's and I've learned a good bit from flaming balls of wreckage... Mine and theirs :).

w.i.p Flight Model (FM) since [21.09.2022] DCS 2.7.18.30348 Open Beta
M1Combat replied to Dagobert666's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Just a small note... I noticed after the 2.8 update that my trim type setting in Apache options (and indeed all my "special" options... like auto rudder and T/O assist in the warbirds) had been reset to the defaults and not the setting I had them set to. Not sure if that was just mine or not :). -
Sweet :). Thanks @BIGNEWY and @EDTeam

@BIGNEWY With the shadow bug it feels like the z-buffer (I think that's what it's still called??) is being lost on all the shadow's information so it's now trying to render all shadows including ones behind objects that it wouldn't have before.

Yeah... I'm with you on the meta of the subject. Don't shoot the messenger :). I'm just trying to tell you that this is how gaming works. F-Wits cheat, players don't like it, devs try to fix it so the vast majority of their non f-wit user base isn't getting effed over. This isn't my fault. This isn't ED's fault. As has been said... it's optional. Also... Id bet that server admins can directly approve specific files just like I believe they can or could before. I don't run a server so I'm not 100% sure, but as I recall server admins have a way of basically whitelisting a set of files for approved mods. Also... trying to use this as an excuse to not buy sim hardware??? Meh... go get a keyboard that can do the macros for you friend... a solution was already suggested but you glossed right over it. Why? Maybe that solution doesn't solve YOUR problem???? OK... Also... that $1500-$2000 worth of sim hardware... Many of those devices can do macros or be programmed to press a macro button on the keyboard so... yeah problem solved man :). You're welcome. Unless... That doesn't solve YOUR problem... But I don't know anything about that... I'm just throwing out solutions (and will likely still get attacked by you for doing so) that should solve this "problem" for 99% of people...

Well... just because YOU don't use something in a clearly exploitative way (although... this would give you a very small advantage...) doesn't mean others don't. Try to look at the big picture eh? The bad apples ruin the whole bunch. And then tend to complain that their cheat functions are broken. Not saying YOU are doing that of course... Just saying I do tend to see that. Maybe grab a gaming keyboard that can have macros programmed in? That should be able to replicate any reasonable macro you were using otherwise...

LOL... Sometimes AMD is better... It's OK dude. It's good for the industry. -

As I understand there are also boards that can just straight up overclock it with a new BIOS revision. Doesn't matter though... the gains from it's solid boost clocks once it's under volted are "just fine". -

M1Combat replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
From a 3800x running 4.3Ghz to a stock 5800X3D I went from ~28FPS to ~38FPS looking from CAT 1 to tower in VR (F2 View). Options NOT at minimum... but all the same options between CPU's. Looking forwards from Cat 1 in the exact same session... 85FPS. It won't "solve" the low FPS issues looking at the tower and while on the ground... but 38 is way better than 28 :). -

Oh yeah... I'm a dork :). Not sure why I didn't pick out that it's used mem You'll likely see a good improvement with a step up to a top shelf CPU, but... I'm not sure what that upgrade looks like for your CPU. Does your motherboard take the newest stuff? If not... Will you also need to buy new memory? -

Yeah I don't think you'd see as much improvement as I did anyhow. You seem to have 6GB vid mem... Is that a 970 or something of that era? -
AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
M1Combat replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
Well the actual framerate numbers aren't really what I was trying to point out... It's more about the Delta FPS if you will. How much was gained in a few limited scenarios. As you can see... 33% gains on the low end where it matters. As far as OXR settings... I think 100% res and Fixed Foviated Rendering but I don't recall which settings. Nvidia settings are MFAA, Fast VSync and Prefer max perf. It doesn't matter though. Given the same settings... I see a 33% increase in FPS in pretty much worst case scenario. Huge win IMO but keep in mind I'm coming from a 3800x that was clocked at 4.3Ghz... so not the fastest of CPU's for sure but probably decent to roughly average of what a lot of people are running. Same thing in MP. I fired up one of the cold war servers and it's still slower than I'd like on the ground but as soon as I'm in the air it's super smooth. null
