Will a 1070 do the job for Oculus VR?
joca133 replied to Tonkenna's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I agree, I would not go lower than 1070 for VR. It does the job, lately for me at high and decent graphs. But if you got cash go 1080 ti or wait for newer one to be compared. -
Live kick off nvidia 20xx cards
joca133 replied to boedha68's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Exactly, today I see 1080 ti going for $450. Im also curious about the 2070 vs 1080 ti. I may jump in one of the wagons for an upgrade, just waiting on benchmarks to choose which. -
Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?
joca133 replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A used 1080 ti can be found for $450 as of today. Im curious about the next couple weeks and the 2070 vs 1080 ti to be honest. -
Will a 1070 do the job for Oculus VR?
joca133 replied to Tonkenna's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have a ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 15.6 to use when I travel and with Oculus it runs better than my other desktop also running 1070. I guess the ssd and 32gb ram makes the difference here. To be honest a 1070 will always leave something to desire in terms of performance/quality. There are some compromises. But it will run well enough in normal circumstances. The shadder mod is a miraculous god given blessing, and Im able to push pd 1.5 and mssa x2 and high on terrain and water on solo in a modest mission. Multiplayer I drop some things a bit. Im happy and all other games that dont require quantum processing power runs very smooth. Hope it helps. -
+1 on all river shorelines here, very disturbing in VR.

Thats great info, never realized that about the eclair control. What about the little yellow cover for the jettison, is there a bug where keeping it open interferes with weapons not launching?

I can’t do better than the masters here, but #3 the ap works beautifully smooth, if you set target altitude before and use trim wi5 ap on first to set a pitch att. Then turn on stby for the alt intercept and it will capture. I usually set the target alt takeoff with ap on stby and when pressure is released on stick after rotation, it will keep the pitch I released (say 5°), then I toggle intercept alt, then all is golden. #4 Bombing on the mirage using hud and ccrp is straight forward, set a waypoint, when less than 10nm look for wpt cross on gnd, set hud diamond to target and cage it, keep aligned until release time. I usually do one pass to target first, turn back 10nm out, lazer on and drop. For me its either snakeyes or lazer gbu12, the slicker unguided ones are a waste since a few meters off they wont kill a fly. Regarding #2, I have issues with that too. I suspect changing armament on ground is causing issues. Curious thin is I normally fly with the jettison cover out (the switch obviously off), to make it simpler to jettison. Can this really cause issues too? #5 The countermeasures box on the left doesn’t even need to be on, I think its just a counter and I suspect its accuracy. I simply turn on the switch on right and use programs 5 for chaff and 1 for flare (1C+1F). One thing I dont know is how to create a custom program, like in the F18 and perhaps it is possible via file editing. If you press the panic shortcut it will quickly toss all you got, so be careful with that.

Freezes happen with me on single, running smooth fps and it will randomly freeze for much more than 10s sometimes, oculus goes black at times. When I am about to give up and close it resumes normally. Then nothing happens next day, same mission. Maybe someone could shed some light.

+1, having an option to adjust tdc slew speed would be awesome not only in the hornet.

I think its a problem with the current DCS, created after deferred lighting or something. Most aircraft seem affected by it. I experience the same difficulties in the Mirage. I also think there is a thread about this. Only solution is to go back to an older version or use nvg. I also do the nvg mod to remove blurr so I can read instruments, and added nvg on the Mirage, mostly for taxiing at night due to this issue.

Request: Improvement of the Loadout Screen of the Mission Editor
joca133 replied to Flagrum's topic in DCS Core Wish List
+1, especially the encyclopedia. I can live with calculating individual weights by adding one at a time, but wish it was optimized as suggested. But I think the encyclopedia is useless and more of an annoyance than anything. Everytime I want to check on a wepon info I am sure it will not be there, or it will be missing specific informations (AIM 9L vs P vs X etc). -
I am also skeptical about Vulcan making miracles, but I am hopeful it may allow more flexibility and better resource usage. The difference (in vr) from a medium to high settings in graphics is dramatic, even small 5fps gains matter in my case. Yes, it seems my hardware is always lagging when it comes to FSX, Arma, and DCS. It has been this way for decades. The main issue is money, I need more to keep up $$$.

Can never get a good CCIP solution with SnakeEyes
joca133 replied to Nealius's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I hope this will all change soon, as it is I feel like A/G in the early access hornet is just too basic to be effective. At least for me (poor aim?). Soon we will get guided bombs and better cluster, also pods to help target from afar. I am far from being an expert on anything, but I do share the frustration on getting a proper release and accuracy. Even with guns I couldn’t hit some targets, the piper wasn’t giving me a correct solution. Again, probably my inexperience, but it feels too early and with many limitations. Might as well try some rockets for now. -
Invite 2 more friends? :megalol: The AI is very limited as is, they do weird and stupid things and will not fire when you need help, but kill when you dont want them to. And yes, they seem super capable to make near perfect scripted landings, vut will not see a 3000m mountain in daylight. I use them more as cannon fodder, see them as an aid to carry more of an initial punch, but keep my expectations low and know they will probably not make it back. And when they call bingo fuel, they should actually say Im punching out instead. Hopefully some improvements will come one day.

That was my suspicion about the intel gpu, thanks for confirming it. Hopefully he gets a decent pc and we get another member to this amazing sim. Thank you all for the help and, again, sorry if this thread annoyed some people. I don’t own a mac, but can’t understand why Apple doesn’t seem to invest in gamers as well. They certainly look like well built machines, and people who work with them love it.
-
That looks pretty good and, again, some people don’t have gaming as a priority. Although I am convincing him to get a proper pc for gaming. This is just to try, if possible. I suspect the issue may be either the usb drive windows instead of bootcamp or the fact his macbook pro uses an intel gpu, unlike the more power desktop ones. I checked and it says dx12 compatible, we even managed to run other games like ghost recon wildlands.

He is booting from a usb drive, is this an issue?

Whith the hornet when you change the comm frequency of a group, it is automatically filled in the radio preset (radio 1). I wonder if ED couldn’t do the same with ATC when we place the aircraft in a field for takeoff and landing. This is annoying, I agree.

Are we going to have an updated version of F18 guide?
joca133 replied to tamamomae's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Also looking forward for a final release, with more training missions and manual. I am beginning to love the aircraft, and can already see its potential if one learns the systems intricacies. As it is I think we are missing a ton of things and would rather see efforts spent on getting a finalized product. I hope the community, with guys like Chuck, continue to update their guides in the mean time. -
Sorry if this thread offended you or made your day any worse, but you can always unsubscribe if this bothers you. Of course, DCS is not designed to work on a Mac. But is it possible? My question here is for those who managed to run DCS on a MacBook Pro.

Static objects linked to ship get duplicated onto map
joca133 replied to ChillaSteve's topic in Mission Editor Bugs
Exactly the same happened to me. I placed UH-1s in ships and they show on map only in Khasab. No mods. My carrier fleet was SE of Khasab instead, but I don’t think it matters. -
I have been trying to help a friend run dcs on a macbook pro 2015. He will buy a gaming pc later this year, but until then it is what we got. We have gotten until the main menu, but it crashes when trying to load any mission, including instant action. Is it possible to run dcs via windows on an external hdd on a macbook pro or are we wasting time?

VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
joca133 replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Thanks for letting me know. I switched from ssaa and adjusted the msaa radius a bit and fov size for my rift (0.62 works nicely). I noticed even more improvements with MSAA 2x concerning performance, not a lot regarding quality. I can see a lot better in VR now. With terrain and water on HIGH, it is a different game than I have been playing. -
Pardon my ignorance, but since UFC shortcuts are available, couldn’t you do a similar macro with Voice Attack to push those buttons for you in a particular order? I am not sure if this works, especially since I havent seen shortcuts for the a/p panel in bottom of hud, but maybe possible?

VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
joca133 replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Just wanted to post my appreciation for this mod. I managed to increase PD from 1.3 to 1.5, water quality from medium to high, terrain low to medium and use ssaa 1.5 instead of no AA. Visually a huge improvement. For the first time the game looks beautiful and runs in a more acceptable performance level. I wish ED optimized these things better for VR use, this is a must for me now. Only issues I noticed are the moon in PG seems odd, fog has a light blue tint, and despite changing the fov to 0.6 I still see some distortion. Thanks for this, really made my day .
