  1. I had the black screen while loading it after updating to latest version. After a pc reboot, and delete fx and meta it started normally. Perhaps reinstall/clean dcs?
  2. About the Oculus MASKSIZE, I have tried several sizes, all around 0.56-0.63. I settled at 0.61, but I still see a small blurry ring. I am doing it by trial and error, and the annoying part is that I have to wait for the whole cache to rebuild after every change (30 minutes). I hope there is a better way to correct for this. If so, please let me know.
  3. Sounds good, I keep my 1070 laptop for work and gaming when I travel and quite frankly Im very happy with it. Of course I dont have the same expectations as a desktop that is fully customizable, but it runs good enough for a distraction. I imagine a 1080 laptop will serve you very well for years.
  4. Yeah, optimization is very much in demand right now. I have a $2k rig and must say Im far from satisfied about the random misterious stutterings, oscillations in performance and instability. Beta feels like an alpha and stable like a beta? Hopefully vulkan will be the miracle solution, but a simpler optimization may be a good start. The unoficial shadder mod, for example, helped a lot.
  5. The state of AI is laughable, if it wasn’t painful. I spent the last three days trying to “convince” an ai to drop a frigging bomb over an airfield, been to every possible combination of roe, response to threat, etc. I have pretty good tracks from ai wingmens plunging to death kamikaze style. And yesterday my own wingmen started blabbering non stop about targets, and I mean non stop Tourette Syndrom style tha I shot him down instead. Yep, it was comical at first, now its just dismal.
  6. I recently updated my dcs to 2.5.3.21235. After applying the mod I found an issue with the dust/smoke. Is there a compatibility issue with this version? The mod version I have says compatible 2.5.3.21107, so a version before this. Anyone can confirm this is happening? https://i.imgur.com/XRTOXfC.png
  7. Revientor, just want to say thanks. I have watched probably all your mirage videos and they helped tremendously. Your meticulous coverage of all these topics are unique. I would probably not be flying the Mirage if it wasnt for you. The english caps aso helps when my spanish fails.
  8. Thanks for the answers and the video. It looks great and accurate enough to press even small buttons. Regarding the fild of view on the sensor and tracking, let me clarify what I was thinking. And it does make sense what was mentioned that you will probably looking at the button. But there are cases when you are, for example, setting an altimeter and looking up briefly, or to the sides, or to another instrument. In this case, assuming its out of sensor range, will the button clicks still work? Like when mouse clicking while looking elsewhere? 10 hours is a good point for battery life, no concerns from me there.
  9. I hope you all are correct and we get Vulkan soon, and it optimizes the game. I am another that say this should be THE priority. Even with a 1080 ti it runs poorly on a good day. The game is awesome in terms of possibilities, I feel it just needs optimization, stability and content from third party (campaign makers).
  10. CA wont add much, unless you play on big servers where they use it to move vehicles around. I found myself using it only a couple times for fun (tank vs plane skirmish etc). NTTR is cool to do the red flag campaigns. I was not into that as they tend to be too technical, but I have to say the most involved thing I did on DCS was the Mirage 2000 red flag from Baltic Dragon. I learned a lot and the game felt absurdly alive. So my recommendstion is for the Mirage, caucasus campaign and then NTTR red flag for a lot of fun. Soon we may have a part 3 with a campaign in PG. The Hornet is a good aircraft, but very early and limited atm. I would wait a bit more.
  11. What are the biggest differences between the Mirage III and IAI Dagger? Besides engine/performance? Both didn’t feature a radar? I could not find anything definitive on google/wikipedia :book:
  12. Thanks for the updates, both Mirage and Harrier are my favorites. More updates on the Super Tucano please.
  13. True about the tot. Perhaps check the hardware you use as ShadowFrost suggested? A sensitive trigger? One I had a notebook trackpad firing when used the keyboard and bumped it unintentionally.
  14. I pushed the button on a used 1080 ti for my second rig. All in $500 with warranty for ~3 years. Since it was the flavor I wanted, I believe it will be possible to get one for $450 or less on the next weeks if you can have any model. I hope I see improvements over my 1070 on this pc, since on my other I did not. My hope is that cpu and ram were bottlenecking it hard. This one has a bit more punch. Well see, perhaps RTX later next year for me.
  15. Jim, I play dcs casually since its early days, and I agree with you on everything. Having invested all my money on a computer, warthog, wheelstand pros, oculus, headphones, and 1080 ti... playing still leaves a sour taste. Why? Because I have seen good graphics and fps, but only when stars align. A new patch, usb or nvidia driver, mission scripts, multiplayer effects, etc, usually pops up and destroys performance. To put it plainly, the game seems very poorly optimized and unstable. It is my view, and I am not an expert. With recent patches it seems this game will only run the way it should when quantum processors are a thing. Then you look at custom mods like the shadder, and it helps tremendously. An official optimization should be a priority, hopefully that will happen with Vulcan. Then again, maybe not, and we keep buying more and more $$$ hardware to inch our way through this CF.
  16. The answer is yes, there is a button to launch 2 missiles if you hold the trigger. Check if TOT or whatever is called is not enabled on the armament panel. There is an option on settings to have it on by default.
  17. I have the same issues, AI does a terrible job overall on dcs. For now AV8 I send them after softer targets like AAA and short range sams with mavericks. Tornados work well against hawks. I skip the F18 altogether. Against SA10 I havent found a solution, they either wont engage it or will die by going head on. Perhaps switching to bombing run and sending a F117? On another note against ai behavior, wingman AI will crash 100% of the time while I land on some airfields. AI wingmen do the approach like a Blue Angels, inches from me, but when I land they fly like a drunk blind man into a mountain. They are too stupid and only work with scripted actions.
  18. You are definitely not alone, and I have a feeling this will come true at some point.
  19. I would love to see at least as AI, like we have the tornado, F117, etc. Expanding the universe a bit would certainly make missions more interesting. And yes, such a beautiful aircraft.
  20. Mine went down, maybe because the shadder mod that “fixed” dcs was giving me errors. Rolled back. I saw some people complaining that asw shortcuts no longer work. For me they stopped working a long time ago (2-3 updates). My solution was to use oculus tray tool, perhaps it may help a few.
  21. I got hit hard in fps too. Rolled back. Not surprised. The game is broken and the mod can no longer fix it lol. Perhaps when the new quantum processors arrive in a decade or so stability and fps will go hand in hand.
  22. To be fair my game stopped responding to asw commands a long time ago (2-3 updates), My workaround was to use voice commands on oculus tray tools. I learned to accept this game is as reliable as a russian lada or a fiat. It will run bad, then magically will run smooth until you get optimistic, then it will require a reinstall... rinse and repeat. Perhaps when quantum processors arrive we may be able to play without issues.
  23. I am one very interested in a solution for hotas+vr in dcs, and this seems to be a good interim solution until more advanced “hands on vr” are available. 1) What is the $50 panel addon? I dont understand its use. 2) How long will a battery charge last? I know you supply with 3 additional ones, but I am concerned about having to change them too often. 3) The sensor is an IR on the headset? Similar to the Leap Motion? In this case I have a concern as to how it will not loose track of my hands when I turn my head or have a hard to reach switch. 4) To be honest $175 is too much for me. I imagine the challenges and expenses in the tech involved, but I would not pay more than $100 for what it promises. Just being honest, but I know we live in a world were some spend $1300 on a gpu or a phone.
  24. Same here. I know it is still on Beta here, but these issues appear and disappear randomly. Usually the first run after clearing meta and fx is good fps but stuttering as it caches. Next is smooth, then suddendly it will begin doing something crappy like fps drop or stuttering or crashes. Every new update it seems to get less stable.
  25. The black lines should be isobars, lines/ridges of similar pressures. Imagine a topographical map showing lines of elevation, the closer together the more change in elevation. Here is the same, with pressure. Closer together = more pressure changes = more winds. There seems to be a “H”igh pressure system in the middle, indicating possible clear of clouds weather and calm winds near Novorossiysk. The white symbol are wind barbs: direction and speed. A small tab is 5kts, long tab 10, a circle calm, triangle 50. Assuming its knots, because it could be metric on dcs. Then you can combine them to show 15kts, 60, etc. The direction works like an arrow, pointing towards the wind direction (I hope in dcs). Imagine the wind speed barb are the feathers on an arrow. http://www.aviationweather.gov/metar/help?page=plot
