So the approach is 21 uAOA typically on a 2-3 degree glideslope, flare to 23 uAOA and hold til about 75-100 KCAS...You can either let the nose fall on its own or retard it (i.e. stick aft a bit) as necessary for whatever reasons. Heavy landings (basically above 36,000ish pounds) can be shallower as needed I think. What you're describing is a short-field procedure which isn't exactly good for tires and/or brakes, AFAIK.

Reposting because I'm dumb and managed to delete my post instead of canceling edit... Fighting 99th Air Wing http://f99th.com Pilots: F99th-Sweeper, F99th-Pyromaniac, F99th-Gman, F99th-Ktulu, (tbd on the last two) Aircraft: Will update later, most likely F-15s. Disregard the registration, we don't have enough people who can make it.

On energy: Keep your speed up, the rate band is 350-410, decent merge entry speed is gonna be about 430-440 typically, sometimes you'll want to be up at 470+ if you want to play the bandit with energy fighting or something. I would find a copy of the "F-16 combat aircraft fundamentals" and the "T-38 introduction to fighter fundamentals" for better dogfighting instructions. A simple Google search should bring those up pretty quick. Let me tell you this, though, the Eagle is far from useless against aircraft in dogfights - It doesn't sustain its turn rate as well as a Flanker at lower speeds, but if you start thinking about maintaining energy until you can't (defending a missile), and getting your wingman a shot at the bandit, you will win every single time...The Flanker is a great 1v1 platform in-game, but it is mostly horrible in ACM. (or that is this F-15 fanboy's opinion at least...) On missiles and engagement ranges...It depends. Your max range for a low-medium altitude AMRAAM is typically 8nmi with a no escape range of about 6. The long-burn R-27s have about the same range, but they have inferior seekers (80s SARH and 80s/90s IRH) so their range is somewhat irrelevant, from that POV. One other thing, good job on asking the forums for help - I didn't, and it took me 2 years and a thousand+ hours of virtual flying to learn stuff I could have known in a month or so. Good luck! P.s. I'd try to find some youtube videos of dogfighting, but from the cockpit or HUD tape - Ones with real audio are nice, as well.

There's more to the sim than clicking switches. The fun is in executing an idea, completing an objective, in an environment that doesn't want you to. You don't necessarily need an ASM to do that.
-
Nope, can't manually do it. Check the F-15E's default payloads though, there are some with AMRAAMs and/or Sparrows on the belly. You could have them a while ago (before 1.2.7 I think).

Hah I thought I got some neg rep somewhere or something... Thanks for the explanation Sith.

Just do it. I don't know how far you'll go, but I'll tell ya that a new AI model would be awesome. Now, a flyable? No question that'd be even better! Also, on the systems and stuff (FM, etc.), take your best guess. Having a shot at a platform like this in the sim outweighs any doubts of inaccuracies, IMHO. Good luck!

But the -1 is like a manual or something, man...Who uses those? :megalol:

Check what's on the wings. :) -
Flank', ya know that Greece has Su-33s in game, right? You can infact have Flanker-Ds on both sides. :)

1979-2020. I'll take any of it. I'd prefer, however, a focus on *one* timeframe, so 1994: You get all of the previous gen stuff, but an emphasis on early-mid 4th gen A/A.

Basically whats happening in game right now is that any maneuvering is being smoothed out because, AFAIK, of the netcode's anti-warping provisions. BFM/ACM is darn near impossible right now, Archers will, this is no Bravo Sierra, fly right through my canopy and not detonate because on the other guy's screen I'm somewhere else. Think BFM again, I see the bandit in my control zone, with his nose about 25 degrees aft...Then I see him shooting, with his nose STILL 25 degrees aft...Yet on his screen he's pulling lead for a tracking shot that I can't see. SATAC's gonna be real interesting... :D Oh, also, somewhat related, guns don't work well either. It would appear that sensor-cued gunsights don't track in the vertical - I don't know specifics, but I know my bullets pass aft more often than not when the bandit's going up or down.

Ah, that was just an example, the Eagle has 60 flares by default. ;)
-
Here's the other thing, your Eagle fires off two flares at a time...The Mirage doesn't. 30 flares on an Eagle means you can flare 15 times...30 flares on a Mirage? 30 flare-button presses.
-
Yeah, was hoping for netcode improvements... But hey, that nasty 2.0 CTD is gone, so meh/whatever over here.
-
Its true! :( Might not seem like a huge deal to some, but when you're trying to survive BVR in this thing...It'd be quite useful! Edit as of a month-ish later: yeah it works fine, forgot the 63 channel thing.

+1 to this. No AAM Blue Flag! Maybe once ED fixes some of the MP code...? Greg? -
Selecting flares and chaff in loadout - question
Sweep replied to JazonXD's topic in F-15C for DCS World
Right. We have the the big flares modeled. I wish we had small flares (the M206s, I think?), man... -
Don't go low. Go high, get fast. Come diving in like a bat outta hell and you'll show those Flankers who's got the kinematic advantage. You can't control airspace, but you can kill bandits this way (which seems to be the ultimate goal on 104th anyway I think?). Recommended loadout is 4 Sparrows, one bag, no heaters, spool before the ground dudes add pylons (not sure if they actually add drag or not...just do it anyway!) Think of yourself as a MiG-25 that can take 9g and you'll go far.

Nice rant, bro! :P Edit: Oh, yeah, +1 -
 With that view on payload standardization, maybe you're better off in an FPS? In reality you simulate the other guy's weapons on your platform. Obviously this is unrealistic!

I don't know whats more disgusting, a Tomcat, an SFM Tomcat, an SFM Phoenix, or a Phoenix? Can I go with all of the above? :megalol:
