They are making an F-4 but I mean F-15 is about as Cold War as you can get IMO. That is literally it’s design inspiration, Cold War gone hot scenario. At least for the 1980s. But As for Vietnam era aircraft literally none of the current aircraft in DCS fit into it, the MiG-15 is too early the 19 is not the right version (yet) and the 21 is too late. F-5E is too late as well. Even the UH-1 is post Vietnam. F-4E will be the only one that is truly from that war. We can pretend though. but in fact we don’t have the right assets. A late 80s early 90s F-15 actually fits what we have now much better. And if the MiG-29A actually happens like they said, then that will also work very well.

I think everyone wants modern Red jets, But I didn't want this to turn into an "I would rather have discussion" The question is if they made the F-15C available would you want to buy it? Because they have stated in the past its possible, but Lately they don't think there is enough Appeal in DCS because it doesn't really do A2G.

Hrmmm new forum section...:)

See I would welcome it, because we have lots of Multirole, and LWFs but the closest thing we have to an air sovereignty fighter right now is F-14 which is really a fleet defense fighter and quite old. When the Eurofighter comes out I think a modern F-15C would be nice to give it a run for its money. But even an early F-15A or pre MSIP F-15C would still be a pretty credible threat.
-
How about they do both.
-
It's in one of Wags interviews don't remember which one
-
ED doesn't believe that developing a full fidelity F-15C is cost effective, because it's a pure fighter. Are they wrong? Would you buy it?
-
Bingo. All Navy fighters are rated at 7.5 for good reasons. So lets it too bed, can the F-14 pull 9? sure, did it operationally? Occasionally. Even without consequences? Yes. SO Is it best practice to take the jet passed 7.5? Nope. Is the airframe certified for 9G like F-15/16/35A/whatever? Nope. Could it have been? Maybe, Probably, but not without a dedicated SLEP with specific airframe structural reinforcement. Did any of that happen? Nope. You can do whatever you want in the sim, but the real tomcat was limited 7.5Gs and pilots were expected to abide by that limitation in ACM/BFM. Which was the OPs question. All sea stories and Hypothetical armchair aviation aside.
-
Define Break? Engines fall out sure that's probably true for both. But does the INS break for the Eagle at 9, do the Bulkheads crack? Is the aircraft's service life shortened? 9G certification means nothing breaks at 9 and the jet can do that every flight for its full service life. Can the tomcat do that? We don't know. But the eagle can.
-
No they absolutely could have done SLEPs on the tomcat (They certainly talked about it) they choose to go with super hornet. That doesn't answer my question either. Because F-15s got OWS and 9G Clearance WAY before 2012. Why didn't the F-14Ds or any other Rebuilt aircraft, when they we're new? Is it really a case of should've, could've, and didn't? Or can't, don't want too, and didn't?
-
Another reason they we're so worn is the constant abuse and overloads from ACM practice. The by and far worst birds of the bunch we're the top gun ones which had far less exposure to the ocean. So yeah there's a reason they we're not given an OWS and certified for 9G that goes beyond simple cost. And simply put the Eagles are still around, the costs to extend their lives did not exceed their usefulness unlike the cat. That speaks for it self. New Eagles coming of the line are cleared for 9 all the way up to 20,000 hours vs 7000 for Tomcat. F-14Ds we're not given any such acceptable load increase, when they we're new. So IF they could have extended the envelope, then the question is why didn't they? If the airframes were that sound why didn't they last longer? Why did they break so often? ect. ect.
-
Ok thanks for responses I’ll give it some more practice.
-
I mean we can play at hypotheticals all day. In real life it didn't and wasn't. But I doubt that as well because most of the tomcats were all but falling apart by the time they were retired, and that's with a 7.5 and then later 6.5 limit. Whereas many of the eagles were/are in much better shape and vastly exceeded their service lives. In regards to F-15 I also guarantee they had a lot more scientific data to support that decision then sea stories. And just like the tomcat there are also plenty of "stories" about taking it past 9 as well.

I'm talking daytime airfield landings what do you use to visualize glide slope?
-
Ok that helps yeah I definitely do not use DLC as much as they do. I got in the habit of not relying on it around the boat and only using bang bang corrections in close. But that was in the 14B. And it looks like they are using the stick about as much as I do based on the stab movement. I guess I have a few questions how much are the throttles moving? Because for me on speed has me slamming them back and forth quite a bit, is there a sweet spot I'm missing? And what visual ques do ya'll use for the aim point? I don't trust the VV on the HUD.
-
The big question for me is LITENING III.....Probably not but we can hope.
-
Yes SCS Depress on the TUC'd trackfile will update the track on both the display to Red and ownship hostile HAFU and give you the diamond on the HUD. Don't need to use the SA page but It should update the bottom HAFU there as well. When AZ/EL is done, and you have it set up correctly it will be like before the where trackfiles will update themselves with IFF responses if they're being painted by your radar and you'll get the right HAFU and HUD indications without having to SCS Depress for manual mode 4 Identification challenge.
-
So I'm having some trouble with this one. On approach I can't seem to stay on a stabilized Glide slope. I can't find the right Pitch angle to Keep my sink rate under control while staying on speed. Every time I adjust power the nose wobbles around, and I seem too over compensate and end up Fast no matter how deft I handle her. So I chop the throttles and the nose wants to run away again, I can stay on speed but I end up dropping like a pancake. And when there's a wind Its feels like I'm trying to land a kite, very floaty and I can't get down quick enough. Does anyone have any pointers? Am I just not staying ahead of it or just not being aggressive enough with the stick?
-
SCS Depress over Yellow contacts on radar attack that will interrogate them, Auto IFF is not available until AZ/EL page is more complete.

I remember reading somewhere that they are going to correct the bombs on the hornet with Ablative coatings and correct fuses, and I've seen some of them in model viewer too. So I think that's a good sign. Someone posted that ED changed their minds on BRU-55s so they can always change their minds on this too.
-
Very interesting the WIP shots have a NAVY Ablative coating applied to one of them....

F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)

Looks beautiful been waiting for this one -
A safety margin is exactly that. A safety margin doesn't guarantee anything about what the jet absolutely can or cannot do. The limits documented are what the jet can absolutely get away with, and for the F-14 that number is 7.5 and for those other jets I noted it's 9 and you can apply a safety margin for them too if you want. Either way the F-14 is not certified for anything above 7.5 simple as that. Probably is not the same as yes. The F-14 probably can exceed 7.5 and be fine F-16 doesn't need an asterisk it CAN do 9 no question.
-
Just because an aircraft "survives" a high G excursion with or without damage does not mean it can do that every flight for it's service life. Planes like F-15/16/35A are certified for 9G because they can do that every single flight without reducing their service lives. That's what a G limit means. There is zero risk to the jet or it's systems provided it's maintained properly, to do that every single flight up to that number. Huge difference for the F-14. Anything above that documented limit is going to need a fatigue inspection at the least and likely fixes or worse at the most.

I've started to jump into a mission then quickly exit and jump back in. At least for my custom missions that seems to help. Haven't played with the stock ones. I think could be something to do with mission initialization. It seems like when I get these dips they are associated with system changes like a new RWR spike or Mode 4 datalink info on the TID poping in, Radar mode change, HUD mode change. ect. ect. But after I do my restart trick usually everything is groovy. So I definitely think it is an F-14 issue. It happens for me on maps like Nevada in the middle of the desert at high altitude or out over the water on the PG map.
