The Changelog from 15.8.18 said: Missions Mi-8MTV2 - added Instant Action missions for Persian Gulf. Ka-50 - added Instant Action missions for Persian Gulf. FC3 - added Instant Action missions for Persian Gulf. F/A-18C - added new Instant Action missions, gate flight, 8 vs 8 battle and two Case III landing. Yak-52 - Added Instant Action missions for Nevada, Persian Gulf and Normandy maps. However, after updating, I can't see any new Instant Action missions for PG/Mi-8. Did they simply forget to add them to this update? Does anybody have those mentioned missions?

Spring Tension mission 4 - a way to reach Mozdok?
rge75 replied to rge75's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I was pretty high, but....well, not high enough :smilewink: Maybe if you'd fly at the maximum altitude and if you'd reduce fuel at the beginning. When I noticed I can't keep VVI at zero, I started APU and turned on the engine again. It didn't take long until it went on fire. I was able to delete the fire and turned off the engine again and shut down the fuel valve. In other words, not shutting down the engine was not an option  I guess it's just not meant to make it there. Your co-pilot anyway tells you "there's no way we'll make it till Mozlov. However, I didn't believe him and wanted to proove that we can make it. It wasn't meant to be though.... -
In mission 4 of the Spring Tension campaign (Old lady), you get the decision to fly to Mozdok or to Bezlan (which is closer). Is there a way to make it to Mozdok though? I decided to go there, but when the engine vibrations appeared, I shut down the left engine. The old mi-8 did not have enough power anymore to keep the VVI stable even though I turned off de-ice and dust protection. Therefore you simply lost slightly altitude over time. However, at this time, Mozdok and Bezlan where both out of reach. Thus, I ended up with a rolling landing maybe 20km away from Mozdok. Does this mean, you simply can't complete the mission if you took the wrong decision? Or did somebody actually made it to Mozlov? I was hoping there's at least a trigger that checks if you landed.

Impressions of the 3rd mission of the Spring Tension Campaign (cinematic)

Good point. I'd have to ask the mission designer but from what I know, it was more of a "scramble" mission (that's why we also didn't have route cards). So maybe it was just "lack of time" or maybe he didn't think of it. I'll for sure propose it.

some impressions from one of our Mi-8 multiplayer missions at the 8Mates:

I did not encounter that problem so far, but I must also say I did not use the gunners in SP lately. I'd have to test it out. In MP, there's another issue with the door gunner sound though. You don't hear them at all when they're firing. Long story short, the door gunner sounds should be investigated by the devs ;-)
-
Haha, Gizzy ;-) Thanks, Simicro, it's always nice to get positive feedback. I simply tried to adapt (and share) the stuff we're currently practicing at the 229th D/Coy. As for the videos, I only follow two simple rules - no jump cuts - cut at the beat And yeah, the "free-pass" to sacrify your AI wingman probably added some humor to it ;-) PS Only light brown wouldn't have been easy to read everywhere, but the shadow behind the fonts does the trick.

I'm still wondering how this is working for you? You really have to get close to the targets because the range of the guns isn't that high. You really must take out the BMP pretty fast IMO, otherwise you're being hit. Are you doing a high- or low-level attack? Do you level out and tip in?
-
Thanks for your input. I also tried that and like you said, rockets "would" be the way to go, but it seems so difficult to destroy the BMP with a high-level attack. Very often it seemed like my first salve hit the target but it obviously didn't destroy the BMP. The problems with the guns is that you really have to go close (too close). In theory, you should break at least 1.5km before the target (heavy arms) or 1 km (small arms). Of course it's theory, but self-preservation really should be number one goal. Yeah, I know, I also overflew the target in my video.... Do you give the wingman commands to also attack AA? IMO an option is to give him the pincer right or left command before giving him the attack command. I'm pretty sure doing it with a human 2-ship would be interesting. I'm using this kneeboard as a reference for my high-level attack (created/summarized out of 3 pages to make it fit on one kneeboard page). Anyway, I may also try your strategy.

Thank you. If you have the Persian Gulf map, then yes. Go to Instant Action, click on UH-1H and chose PG Ground Attack Hard.

Just in case anybody still doesn't find it... (just flew mission 2 which means I anyway was in Leningorski) - see attached screenshot.

Maybe it's also my memory... I think I came from the west though and saw that farm. Then you turn north to the FARP until you reach the next LZ (outpost?). I'd really have to play it again (or to open the mission in the mission editor). Like you also said, it for sure was not landing at the FARP or close to it.
-
Hmm, I played the mission a week or two ago and it worked fine but I really can't remember exactly. Wasn't the farm more to the south of the FARP, maybe 3 km away? The co-pilot should inform you when you're close to it. After the farm, you fly to the north and the co-pilot will tell something like the FARP was built lately (or something like that). I'm not putting my hand on fire though...it's just how I have it in memory.
-
Well, I somehow managed the mission. I was lucky though that I hit the ZSU on the Low-Level attack. Otherwise my strategy would not have worked. Furthermore, I had to sacrify the AI wingman (on the other hand, is it really my fault if he behaves stupid?). I also did one of the DON'T DOs and overflew the target, but I knew that there was only the BMP left (aside the inurgents) and it was targeting toward the wingman. Still risky and for sure something you'd NOT do in RL. Anyway, it worked out. Well, I created a (semi-cinematic) video which shows my tactics: Be aware that this is a risky strategy. Chances that you are shot down on the climb of the NOE are given because you're very close to the targets.
-
Other solution would be multicrew... ;-) There are quite some "open points" on the checklist of ED.

Elbrus Rescue was working fine for me after EGT implementition in DCS 2.5. In fact I also didn't have many problems with the Argo campaign missions. Some cargos indeed were hard to lift/drop, but they were all working in DCS 2.5.2.

My profile isn't 1:1. Aiming is still not easy, I agree. However, if you do a high level attack and, you tip in, fire the rockets first and then change to the flexi gun when closer before you break 90° right/left, then you can't simply let the AP fly the Huey. It would level out the flight during your attack. My solution so far is to simply use the fixed guns from the pilot seat. That seems to work better.
-
Too bad, because I've heard it shall work pretty good in VR. The way we practice and attack in our squad, I simply can't use AP. Aside that, I also don't want to use the AP ;-) It would be nice if this could be looked at. ATM, I simply let the AI use the Flexi Gun, but it doesn't always attack my desired target...
-
When using the Flex Gun/Flex sight with TrackIR, the visor is "jumping around" which makes it very hard to actually hit something. If needed, then I can upload a video to show the effect. In the cockpit, TrackIR works perfect though (no jumping around). It's only with the Flex Sight where it seems inaccurate.

Did anybody manage to complete this mission so far? I tried it several times with different strategies, but they all seemed to fail. Due to the ZPU and BMP, you can't really go close enough to use the guns. What I tried so far: - High Level Attack from the south at 1200 AGL, 60 kts, trimmed out, tipping in at around 2.5-3km, one rocket, adjust, remaining rockets, trying to take out the F-16 on the North. Then break right and fly back NOE into the valley doing 30° direction changes every 2-3 seconds. - same but going for the ZPU and BMP instead of the F-16s - Sometimes I told the AI to go left to attract fire and to take out "Ground targets". He's not a big help though. - NOE approach from the North, telling the AI to attack ground level (he will attract fire from the ZPU and BMP again). You can stay in cover due to a building quite long. Pitching up/climbing, Level out, rockets toward ZPU and northern F-16, break right, hide behind the airport - For the Southern F-16, you can go into a hover and take 'em out with Flexi Gun from cover However, even though my rockets seem to go "close" to the F-16 but most of the time they all "survive". Interestingly, the most stupid tactics (NEVER fly over the target) seemed to work best so far. This means NOE approach from North and then flying over the airfield and taking out all the F-16 with the gun. I managed to take out all the 5 F-16 this way but I of course took quite some hits and the Huey crashed in the end. You'd anyway never do it this way in RL, but I became inpatient after many, many attempts ;-) I think it would be easier with two humans/MP because you could go for a concurrent high level attack. You can't do that with the AI. With the AI, I'm also not yet sure if it's best to give him the command to attack ground attacks, bandids or "Mission and rejoin". What are your experiences with this mission? Any good strategies that actually work?

It has been added maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago, but you only see the rain drops at low speed. The whipers are still just "decoration" and not functional. However, I simply turn them on when it's raining.

Stuck at "Deployment - Mission 2 / Escort" (DCS 2.5)
rge75 replied to rge75's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Personally I'd simply see a YouTube video from somebody who actually manged to complete this mission in DCS 2.5 ;-) I agree, you adapt your strategy because you know what's going to happen. However, you don't see the enemies and it's just firing "randomly" where "they migth be". I often saw the "Mission failed" very quick and I lost interest into that mission after maybe 15-20 unsuccessful attempts. -

Thanks, but IMO it's a lot harder on 2.5 becaues you hardly see the enemy in the forest. That's the main problem IMO. Anyway, I may give it another try once. The screenshot at least give you an idea of your tactics.
