The signal is working fine once you're "close enough" (until you get to the red smoke - after that, the singal seems to disappear). I've catched the signal somewhere between WP2 and WP3. I once shortly lost it but it appeared again. Just make sure you set the ARC-UD correctly (screenshot 1). - narrow - channel 4 If you see the green light, then you have a signal. - make sure the switch below the HSI is to the right position (ARC UD VHF) (screenshot 2) However, I anyway had problems to finish it. There was nothing at the red smoke. Should't there have been a live resue boat or something like that? (screenshot 3 and 4). So what do you do there? Hover above the red smoke?

I didn't play the 2nd mission yet, but I should have time on Wednesday. I'll check it out. The position of the switch for UHD/VHD may be of importance...(number 4 on Chuck's guide/page 103). Position down is for the default emergency broadcast signal. However, since I did not play it yet, I'm just guessing. Edit: Since it says 121.5 - did you chose channel 4?

Definitively the ones with the com effect :-)

Thanks, but don't make me embarrassed ;-)

IMO there's a bug (or maybe it's intended?). I've got the "Mission complete" already at the 3rd oil rig without flying back home. The messages are: Same to you!! Navigator, course? 354 degree Commander, distance to waypoint 41000. Going home. Maybe 40 seconds later (still on the landing platform, setting Doppler): MISSION COMPLETE After that the message "Playci, It's Nikolsky, great job! Never doubted in your skills! We can see Colonel's military proficiency! Welcome home, you can relax now!" appeared. I'm pretty sure this message should have been appeared after RTB and not on the 3rd oil rig.

Ok, I just finished it without using Garmin. It works fine with the Doppler. The 2nd oil rig seemed a bit more to the left than what the Doppler told me and I really had to orbit a while to see it. What I did - I flew to the 1st oil rig with instrument lights on and without NVG. Once landed at the oil rig (always land into the wind with those conditions), I dimmed all the instrument lights and switched to NVG. Make sure you do instrument scanning all the time. Also, I turned on the flash light to iluminate the instruments which were "below" my NVG. This way I have a good and clear sight on the VSI. See attached screenshot. Speed and altitude can be "imagined" through the NVG. Flight from 2nd to 3rd oil rig is pretty close. Set the Doppler anyway, but you should see the two oil rigs very soon when you do a compass bearing. I do the flight (navigation) on co-pilot seat. Watch your drift instrument and correct your bearing accordingly. Whenever I'm close to the LZ (oil rig in sight), I switch to the pilot though to do the landing (need the altimeter). Therefore I also tend to turn the compass bearing on the pilot seat into the direction of the wind. If you're landing approach is bad, don't force anything. Safety first - do another turn around and do a new proper approach. You have plenty of fuel... just make sure you don't lose the oil rig out of sight. Even though I wanted to land with a nice glide angle, it didn't work out all the time. Especially the 3rd oil rig was a bit tricky because the 2nd was in the way. Landing into the wind became difficult. I had to go into a out of ground effect hover. From there, I landed safely. Just take your time. Smooth controls. I recorded the whole flight, but I'm currently too lazy to cut it to a watcheable video. The whole flight took 1h07 including flight back and shutting down the engine ;-) HTH. PS IMO there's a bug (or maybe it's intended?). I've got the "Mission complete" already at the 3rd oil rig without flying back home. After that the message "[...] Welcome home, you can relax now!" appeared. I'm pretty sure this message should have been appeared after RTB and not on the 3rd oil rig. I'll post it in the bug section.

I think he meant if it's possible to have this in the default DCS Huey missions (e.g. UN campaign). Unfortunately this would mean edit every mission and add the triggers. I once did it for the Mi-8 and therefore I know that it's quite a lot of work. It would be nice if you could select multiple triggers and then copy/paste them to other missions...

Garmin indeed is very appreciated in the first mission. It's becoming a complete instrumental flight and the turbulences don't make it easier. @dresoccer4 did you use the night vision googles? I was also using the search lights in the beginning but they may be distracting for the night vision googles (same for the taxi light). You may have to dim the cockpit lights a bit to be able to interpret the instruments with night vision googles though. Edit: Around 200m above sea level seems a good altitude to spot the oil rigs. If you don't have the Garmin, then make sure you set the Doppler correctly when you land at the 1st oil rig. You can find the numbers in the briefing (2nd picture)

Thanks for the info. I prefer to navigate on ACP and/or Doppler, but it's always a nice backup device :-)
-
Oh well, maybe it doesn't make sense for the IIF in that case? I simply do one click to make sure the warning light is off. Radio altimeter on seems to make sense IMO. I guess he's fine. Like I said, I'd simply add some "comms" effects.
-
There's a subforum for the campaign now: https://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=608 It's said that half the missions are Mi-8.
-
Sounds indeed hard. So how do you navigate to the rigs? Do you have the numbers for Doppler or is the Garmin allowed?
-
Maybe he also "only" has the 4 mission beta test version for DCS 1.5 which still is available in the download section of the user files.
-
maybe they added some more voice-overs and stuff like that... The 1.5 download only has 4 missions to "test" though.
-
Thanks, but it says $9.99 on the shop page. I've seen that the 1.5 beta campaign is for free though. I may download it and check out the miz files to check it out.

Looks like there's no subforum in the DLC campaign Memory of the Hero so far. I'm just wondering - so this is one campaign where you have to fly both helicopters (so maybe 8 missions Mi-8 and 8 missions Ka-50)? Or do you have the choice for each mission if you're flying the Mi-8 or the Ka-50? I'm very experienced in the Mi-8 but not in the Ka-50. So if the campaign would be something like 12 mission Ka-50 and 4 Mi-8, then it most probably won't be something for me. Does anybody have more information on it so far?

As you told me, I tested it with starting from ME and starting from Mission menu. With ME, I've got all the ones below: 1. AC Phase 2. Main Generator On 3. ESS-Bus 4. Battery On 5. Fuel On 6. Force Trim On 7. Hydraulic Control On 8. Engine Start 9. Revs increasing... Temperature increasing 10. Ready to take-off! 11. And here we go! With starting from mission, 8 and 9 did not trigger. Do you consider adding the missing ones like turning on radio altimeter, starter gen standby and IIF?

Worked fine for me. I slightly missed the "throttle to left" (like in the Oilfield...except that it was throttle to right). I'm not sure about the volume though. I had to increase it a bit. The volume felt a bit too low IMO, but maybe that's just on my PC. Also, it would be nice if the voice over would have more of a "comms" effect. It sounds too clear to me. Anyway, for sure a nice addition.

ok, now I understood. Thank you. Since I never play the door gunner myself (the AI does a good job since they fixed their aming), I might simply remove the mouse axis. This way I would not have think of the key command all the time.
-
Not sure if I understood it correctly. For me, aiming with the head/TrackIR is by default. I'm not using the mouse. The visor is anyway jumping around. It's not really possible to aim with the head. However, I'll try the RShift-T, just in case I misunderstood your explanation :-)
-
Yeah, with the Huey I also don't need it. Listening to the commands work fine. The cargo view is helpful with the Mi-8 though, especially when climbing and thightening the rope. This way you can make sure you stay straight above the cargo.
-
Personally I think the cargo cam doesn't really help in the Huey because you anyway don't see the cargo. It's different with the Mi-8 where this view is really a big help. It anyway should be fixed because it's really an easy fix.

Read on the previous page, post #18. Really sad they still didn't fix this. Therefore you have to edit a file....it will be overwritten with the updates again though.
