  1. Thanks for another mission. It was a nice, short mission which wasn't that difficult. Just a good one to practice some high level attack on the BMP :-) Nice scripting and nice location/atmosphere. If your missions would also have voice overs, then it would add even more to the atmosphere.
  2. work? ;-) I don't even know how to update user files... Difficult to answer. I like both and it depends on the mission. For Gunship I prefer the Huey. Also, the way you create the FARP and all that; it just feels more like "Huey" to me. On the other side, there aren't that many missions for the Mi-8. Also, the Mi-8 simply is that much faster which allows you longer distances. We flew the Mi-8 a lot online and it was a nice change to switch back to the Huey. With that said, it's really up to you to decide. I'll take whatever it is. If the map would be Vietnam, the decision would be clear though.
  3. I indeed was outside the LZ-trigger (checked it in the Mission Editor). When I tried it with the Mi-8, I did not get green smoke for the first FARP. Maybe you have to check the script/trigger if it's only set to work with the Huey? (no issues with the Huey).
  4. I passed OP 16, at least I think so (the radio tower on the West coast where I was told to continue North for 6k) - or should I have landed there? Anyway, I'll try on the spot in your screenshot (I tried two other spots....close to the tent and right of the spot in your screenshot). Maybe I was not in the trigger zone. I'll give it another try later on.
  5. Nice scenery :-) However, I'm wondering if I did something wrong. When I arrived at the outpost (white smoke was popped), I landed close to the tents (also tried other spots), but nothing happened. Did I miss a trigger or something? Also, I had to edit one little thing in the mission (changed map options to map only), otherwise navigation makes no sense if you can see your aircraft on the map. Alternate would probably be "hide on map" for the user aircraft.
  6. IMO it's looking good though. Sure, I don't know how the red looks like in your template and how it's intended to look like, but from what I can say, it looks fine. The objects out of place can't have anything to do with the original specs file? Well, on the other hand, I should also have that problem in that case.
  7. I was told that the the edm model of the huey has a shiny textured effect so no matter what colour you use DCS will gice you a shinu effect - the effects the seen colour used.... Mi8 and SA342 use a matt effect - so my understanding is that if you use the same colour in both psd files what you see in dcs will be different.... so you will never get a perfect match between the models.. I ended up darkening the texture in the psd to get "more or less" the result I wanted. Not a perfect match, but I can live with it.
  8. Well, I'm also using the one from the digitalcombatsimulator user file page. There's another one around somewhere which is double the size though....also shiny though. I start wondering if it's a DDS conversion issue? And yeah, it's so annoying when the skin is more or less done and you can't finish due to technical issues.
  9. This means nothing can be done? It looks so ugly compared to the Mi-8. Thanks for the hint. That's how I had it initially...it also was too shiny. That's why I started to play around with the spec file. I don't have that problem you mentioned but maybe we're not using the same template. There are different ones around.
  10. I ran into troubles with my livery... for whatever reason, it looks like silver instead of gray. I played around with the SPECM file (light green, gradient from black to white), but no matter what I did, overall the Huey is too shiny. The ground color is the exact same as I used for my Mi-8 livery. It looks good there. I even tried to use the SPECM file from the Mi-8. As you can see in the 2nd picture, the two airframes have a complete different color. Can anybody explain me why the Huey look completely "wrong" and different than the texture? And even more important, can anybody tell me how to correct it? Any help is very appreciated. I need the Huey to have the same look as the Mi-8. Please PM me if you need the psd files or the dds/lua.
  11. I'll have to give the new mission a try. Seems like you're putting quite an amount of time into setting up the scenery :-)
  12. Personally I also fly more on the visual (focusing on the landing point), but I thought it would be a good practice. Get a feeling for "what's gonna happen" if I push back the cyclic. You could also practice the same by staying on the same altitude. Especially when flying in formation, the FL should have an appropriate glide angle. Checking the VSI seems logical to me in this situation. Also, you may also have bad visibility. It's for sure not bad if you do instrument scanning. Therfore I don't completely agree with you. However, I'm no RL pilot.
  13. watching VSI is elementary ;-) However, I went through the same issues. As mentioned above, it will take time and practice. The explanations above all seem pretty good. You may start with something "easy" though? You may try to simply practice descents. Don't care about "where to land". Watch your VSI and try to keep it between minus 2-3 m/s. Then slightly pull back the cyclic (to slow down a little bit) and slightly drop the collective to maintain your sink rate at 2-3 m/s (well, you'd also need some pedals, but that's another topic). To me, the hardest thing (when I started with DCS) was recognizing that I need to add collective when getting into an out of ground hover.
  14. If you're into multiplayer, then it's also nice if you can practice it with somebody else. I learnt a lot this way.
  15. I tried a new livery for the Huey and I was using the same base colors like for my Mi-8 livery. However, I noticed that the Huey looks completely different (very bright and way too shiny) when I compare it with the Mi-8. In other words, the Mi-8 is dark gray and the Huey seems silver. So I'm simply wondering if my template maybe misses some information (I'm using Corel Draw which means I had to open and convert the psd into a cdt). Or in other words, how can I make the Huey less shiny? Is it done in the main texture or is there another file? I think I had a similar problem with the Mi-8 but I simply used a different spec file. However, that doesn't seem to work with the Huey (note, my knowledge about the spec file is little/zero).
  16. (D/229) groundhog - Mi-8
  17. Well, Gerd-Wiem told me how he did it, but if I'm right, it did not give 100 points. Personally, I don't understand what to do, maybe also because the translation doesn't seem completely clear. After cleaning up camp 1, do I have to climb and chase the Hind (never saw them though) or do I have to attack camp 2? According to Gerd-Wiem, this at least stops the "timer". The woman tells me to climb, so I do. Soon after, I'm told that it's dangerous and that I shall not climb. So what now? Do I have to climb and search/attack the Hind or not? Either way, I get the message that I have to "attack" and soon after, I get the message "Mission Failed" without having a clue what I should have really done. So maybe Forexkor can explain what to do in which order? At least I learnt how to do the manual startup of the Ka-50 due to the bugged autostart (right engine never starts).
  18. Thanks for the reply. As far as I remember, I shot one guided rocket onto the first target, but I also think I was told to "go on". That's why I did not fire a 2nd rocket. So yes, maybe the ship was not really damaged. Also, I indeed damaged the helicopter during landing because I lost altitude again. Since you said that obleden is rotor icing, this may be the issue. Due to the hotstart, I did not check if De-Ice was on or not. This could be the explanation why I always crashed.
  19. Well, it's an old thread and only about Nevada, but I'm wondering if it's a general problem? I tried Autostart on Caucasus in the 4th mission of the "Memories of the Hero" campaign and the right engine also didn't start. I think it's trying to start the right engine before the left engine has started up completely?
  20. Well, I tried again and even though I finished it this time (with 100 score), I had some issues. - On the 2nd target, I've got the message "enough, get back" after firing some rockets and getting close to it - when I returned and landed on the ship again, I received the message "Rockets missed the target. Eagle, get back to the point" followed by the message "Mission Failed" and "Mission completed". In other words, there are still some strange/wrong triggers. I guess it's by design, that you lose more and more instruments because it's still a "new" helicopter and because it's a test flight. However, I again got the RPM warning, but at least this time right before I was landing. I wonder if this failure is also triggered after a specific time? So maybe I flew faster this time and therefor manged to get back. I really don't know. Also, the Ebris often told me something like Obleden Vkljutschi pos vint
  21. ...but shouldn't it have posted in the bug section? I doubt the devs will even notice it in the general thread.
  22. Yeah, I noticed the same as ebabil. From outside, you always see the glass. From inside....not really.
  23. Thanks for the info....and does the Ka-50 not suddenly lose RPM and altitude anymore? Let me know if you managed to finish the mission. I may retry as well in a couple of days.
  24. Thanks, that's not the problem. I have the file since a long time. I just noticed that another mod was replacing the same file.
