  1. Yes I think I know what you mean, night time looks terribly messed up due to the lighting shimmering all over the place as one congealed mass blob. Devs are aware of the problem and have been for some time I think, though I do worry that if they knew how to fix it, they would have done so by now! Really hope thats not the case, as persian gulf is just made for night flights!
  2. No still happens on caucasus with dora seems to happen when tail is shot off but I dont know. V.dissapointed!
  3. It still happens (alot) on normandy map as much as it did. Caucasus map however seems to be better at least so far with limited testing. 1 in 5 tries on caucasus 5/5 no problems. Normandy was like 2 in 4.
  4. Does it work with VR? Seems like its all zoomed in though I dont know what SSAA is or if its supposed to work like that!
  5. It's not the FPS that is the problem at least not for me on the Vive I generally get nice frame rates. Problem is horrible fps drops that lag the game and cause immersion breaking steam background flashes, due to there being some problem with the damage model or certain kinds of bombs exploding.
  6. Well I've got a pretty beefy rig and although performance with helicopters is better than ever, there seems to be something wrong with the damage models. Taking/giving damage seems to lag the game which is awful in VR. Theres a thread about it here- https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=207925, so at least I know its not my computer. So I cant really play, and until this is fixed or the technology improves I wont be buying any more terrains or modules. I'm not sure if it was always this bad as I have always largely flown helicopters...
  7. Yes i have this too, unplayble in VR because its so annoying. Just bought normandy, the assets pack, and the dora so you can imagine how chuffed I am!
  8. Yes it looks exactly that! This is really dissapointing! It's the damage model loading something up! Same thing happens with certain bombs dropping though not missiles! Well thanks man as gutted as I am, at least I know it's not my computer. But it's the last module and map I buy until this problem is fixed, not meaning to be rude but it's a devestating immersion breaker for VR!
  9. Which pretty much makes the VR experience an unhappy one! This is not a busy sceneario either we're talking one plane! Any one else experience this on the VIVE? I drop so many frames when taking or giving damage sometimes that it causes a basestation flash where I can see the steam background loading screen. Dont think it's my computer, got 90fps on the ground with MSSA on 2x and I have a pretty beefy rig. Everythings fine until the bullets start flying. Helicopters dont suffer from this problem so I am guessing it's maybe module or prop plane specific? Oh and this is in open beta.
  10. Whenever I take damage or even give damage I getting sudden large fps drops, which in VR is terrible because it causes a flash where one is momentarily taken out of the game to a steam loading screen. Is this a bug. I fly helicopters mostly but havent noticed this when attacking or being attacked in other AC's only seems to happen in the dora. Just bought it with normandy and asset pack too, so obviously seeming liek a waste of money!
  11. So I ended up getting the dora, normandy and the ww2 asset pack in the sale. Initial impressions, well it certainly needs a low gamma and early or late time of day setting to do it justice, after which it looks great. The default gamma setting is absurd! Trees are really too shimmery though. Performance seems fine to be honest but all I did was fly around the map. Hopefully it can handle a few dogfights! Cockpit visuals actually surprised me as a little poor, not up to the standards of other DCS modules I dont think, but the actually flight model is fantastic and I feel it gives a better sensation of speed than the other sim, though havent had enough time with it to say for sure. Overall all dont regret it but I consider it an investment for the future. It has the potential to be the best WW2 flight sim on the market, due to the realism, but it certainly needs alot of work. Mind telling me what the campaign you mentioned is called Dburne? Humm seem to be getting basestation flashes over normandy when either giving or receiving damage. This does not bode well. Damage model seems awful as if someone has just painted on some bullet holes without me noticing! Also I think its a steam VR problem but lately seems as if buildings/trees are more shimmery!
  12. Yeah was looking at photos like this and thinking the same thing (https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/terrains/) though I imagine it looks alot better with deffered shading and lower gamma settings. Those photos really dont look good for an advertisment, way too exposed and flat (cardboard cut out) looking. Comapre them to these screenshots ((( https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/screenshots/1027/ ))) and call me cynical but it doesent seem as if normandy has had nearly the same amount of love and attention! Yeah guess I could just buy a spitfire and fly it over the caucasus with little difference but I wouldnt have anything ww2 to face off against right?
  13. Well I tried without MSSA with 1.6 DCS PD. Was indeed sharper and less smeared, but IMO looks far more shimmery and jaggy. Performance too didnt seem much better than MSSA x4 and PD 1.2. I think I could get used to it if I had to, but I prefer MSSA on the whole especially for vegas. It dosent really matter much out in the sticks or at night, but no MSSA plays havoc with the buildings!
  14. In your honest opinion is it worth getting at this point? I am pretty easily satisfied as I am a fan of using the mssion editor. I know theres not an abundance of content atm, but how is the performance with what there already is on the latest version? Has the community created alot of user made content? Any problems with lighting etc? I really do feel like I might as well get it, because I'm going to at some point, but it seems that normandy is being somewhat neglected of late which is understandable but even so, dont want to buy and find myself frustrated by massive fps drops or any other nasty surprises. I think what concerns me most is that no-one ever seems to talk about normandy most likely because they are all playing the other one. But I do get the feeling with clickable cockpits normandy will be fantastic in the end.
  15. Yeah it's probably placebo but I'm sure I noticed something like that myself once! Mixing them seemed to make things look better and perform just as well!
  16. Yep I will admit it works for me only within the limitations of whatever mission scenario I happen to choose which is ussually a ground attack helicopter of which I already know all the systems/buttons!
  17. Beg to differ. In my day to day dealings with non VR users I have found them to be without any exceptions the scum of the universe! :smilewink:
  18. I want to ask though. You say you are not using MSSA on the VIVE pro? On normal VIVE I use MSSA x4 and it looks and performs great (within normal VR/DCS limits). Has the vive pros extra resolution enabled you to turn off MSSA because it is no longer needed, or have you due to performance problems been compelled to turn it off? Cause honestly MSSA off looks very bad for me, and I cant imagine even with the improvements it looks very good without MSSA on the pro either? And how does this (no MSSA but better res) then compare graphics wise to the 1st VIVE? So are people not better off with the normal cheaper VIVE as does it not all balance out, because you have to lower settings anyway to meet higher performance demands? My impression so far from what people are saying is that the pro means better graphics at a higher performance cost, which means lowering graphics (turning off MSSA) in order to get it to work, and thus defeating the whole reason for getting the pro in the first place? These are not statements I am making btw I do actually want to know if what I am saying has any truth to it. Price aside I dont want to go pro because I worry it would only increase system requirements. Is this a valid concern?
  19. So I dont understand if I dont use reprojection on the vive and fall bellow 90fps the experience is horrible. You're saying that the rift no longer needs to reach 90fps for a good experience? Are they using some sort of new technology or something? How come rift users dont need ASW any more?
  20. I blindly followed this advice and steam VR would no longer load up until I copy and pasted the very things I had deleted and put them back again! Not recommended!
  21. I dont have any trouble being able to see in the dark, I just user the gamma slider in game, and it works now as good as it ever did for me. But however the lighting is still bugged and looks bad from a certain distance. Adjust gamma for each and every mission day and night for a better looking experience!
  22. Notice people saying that before without DS they were able to crank up PD to 1.5 etc, but to be honest I've found with DS on that 1.2 suffices. For me I only really need a splash of PD, and find MSSA much more important. I run on MSSA 4, and PD on 1.2. Am getting very nice performance, and god does it look beautiful on the right map at the right time. The mountain caucasus forrests and valleys at sunrise in a helicopter is a sight to behold! Without DS could get nowhere near to what feels at times (if you discount the cities) to almost photorealistic levels of immersion, its jaw droppingly gorgeous! I dont have any problem flying at night (I just up gamma) but the lights still have a problem of congealing into square grids of graphical corruption from a certain height. So honestly on the whole, I find performance is better if anything, but I dont know if it would be so on my old rig. Anyone think the volta TI will be the answer to flight sim perfection? I have to say I kinda think not but that will probably be my next GPU. One thing I have learned with VR, always go for the TI!
  23. Yes it's frustrating. But its a misconception that other VR games do not also have problems. The entire VR thing is in a constant state of change and flux as the games themslves are updated, and broken or slowly improved. BOS after the update also had its share of complaints and problems in VR as well. Indeed at this time of writing due to fps drops and flashes in BOS I am sticking mostly to DCS where I can better tailor the experience to my specifications with the editor. VR flight sim sure are frustrating as minimum requirements have taken a huge leap in both sims. DCS has major problems but you just have to find your own way to play and enjoy it. For me that means helicopters with the mission editor. Fantastic experience. Besides that consider updating your rig. VR communuity badly needs to start designing missions that are tailor made and streamlined with VR performance in mind. All the tools are at our fingertips to make this game perform as well, or as badly as we want it to. This is something BOS lacks. I feel for the OP and others like him. If I was on my old rig I would feel a bit cheated as I bought most of my modules for VR and the old system requirements. If anything we were strongly led to believe that the new update would vastly improve performance.
  24. What are you doing then, that lesser mortals are not if you don't mind me asking? Would be glad to compare notes!
  25. Yeah I think it's a rather thoughtless thing to do to their VR users to be honest as if I was still on my old rig I would now be left basically unable to play. Many people were led to believe 2.5 would actually improve performance significantly. Does anyone know what their explanation is for making DS mandatory now?
