Mission 1 Wingman doesn't break off to refuel
Badger633 replied to db349's topic in Bugs and Problems
Hi @db349 Thing to remember in campaigns your wing is rarely a true ED wingman that you as the player can instruct. They are normally an independent AI aircraft scripted to act as your wingman. This necessary to give the mission creator the necessary control to form the mission in the way the player experiences it. The problem with AI not carrying out air to air refuel is not straight forward even down to when in a mission it occurs and even working for some players not others! Have made numerous reports to ED but until now have not got a solid solution, there is certainly no simple answer at this point. This is why I had to go back through all my campaigns and rework many missions with this temp fix. Just cannot risk missions being broken for months on end. As soon as see I see a reliable solution I will update all the campaigns but it will have to be reliable for all players. Glad you appreciated my campaigns thats what its all about at the end of the day. -
Mission 1 Wingman doesn't break off to refuel
Badger633 replied to db349's topic in Bugs and Problems
Hi @db349 At the beginning of the brief you will see this, "DUE TO CURRENT REFUEL BUG YOUR WING WILL NOT PLUG BUT STAY IN FORMATION. YOU NOW MUST PLUG ON LEFT BASKET UNTIL BUG FIXED." Originally had normal air to air refuel where your wing took part, worked for years, over the last 6 months there has been various bugs where the wing dives to the ground or just simply goes AWOL. This then breaking missions throughout all my campaigns! So at the moment the wing will only follow until there is a reliable air to air refuel once again established by ED. Your wing will not run out of fuel. Hope this helps, not ideal, but better than having your wing flying off and breaking the mission for weeks on end. -
@BuzzLine For me the work round was to omit the 3rd AI Hornet on CAT 4. It was this causing the strange number you pointed out in the debrief. Tried omitting and reinstating with a new Hornet. Same thing. So omitted that Hornet and made the first AI Hornet on Cat 2 a group of two on Cats 1 and 2. As in a lot of these work rounds we do not understand how or why one works and the other doesn’t. There are a lot of things in play in DCS updates that we do not know. All i know is it worked for years previously. Have submitted both before and after missions to ED to see what has caused it and if there is a bug. Main thing is it will be fixed in next update

@Tr33Top Hey that’s no problem, i want everyone to enjoy my campaigns, that’s what it’s all about. Understand the confusion you have pointed out with the audio mentioning the F10. Will have to correct that. The reason it is there makes sense in the normal version. The mission is created for the normal version complete with audio etc. The easy air to air refuel version is an adaptation of the normal version. Mainly to help newer pilots who have not learnt how to catch and maintain the basket and thus prevent them from playing longer missions. The only way currently of achieving this is setting the player on limitless fuel but still forcing him to get in a suitable position as if to refuel. Thats why the fuel does not go down, not ideal but the only option. Your approach looked good and stable suggest you give the normal version a try. Trick is keep calm use small movements never look at or try to follow the basket. Keep in formation with the tanker. Make a slow approach to intercept the basket, if you miss do not try to make quick adjustments to catch it or you will pio. Just ease back slowly and try again. Most of all keep calm small movement.

Hi @Tr33Top Just checked your track. If you look at the brief it explains the easy refuel. You shouldn't be trying to call apart from the original call. This option is a simulated refuel so you do not need to catch the basket, if you want to catch the basket you use the normal campaign. You will not run out of fuel in this version. You do not need to be using the radio as you approach and you will automatically get the message to move on. Head to WP6. Think you missed some audible messages as you were activating the radio. From brief. NOTE: THIS CAMPAIGN IS THE SIMPLIFIED AIR TO AIR REFUELING VERSION. NO NEED TO CONNECT TO BASKET. ALL THAT IS NECESSARY IS TO CALL REFUELER AS NORMAL AND POSITION BEHIND THE REFUELER AIRCRAFT CORRECTLY FOR MISSION TO PROGRESS. (DO NOT CALL FINAL "PRECONTACT" AS HOSE / BASKET SHOULD NOT EXTEND) .................... ED has changed this now as they always fly with there baskets out now. The amount of radio work is minimal in this campaign but will become more and more as you progress through my campaigns.

Hi @Tr33Top Once you get the refuel complete message Strike tells you to continue your patrol to WP6. You head there and things will happen from there . There is no F10 at this stage. Will check out your track.

UPDATE: Have found a work round and issued to ED. Will be in next update.

Just put this on the forum.

(Tuesday 10th October 2024) Currently there is a bug which has impacted the 'End Mission' button in mission 4. When you have completed the mission the 'End Mission' button does not work normally so you cannot save your progress. This has worked for years until recently. I am unable to effect a work round and have submitted the issue to ED. Hope they get it fixed as soon as possible. In the meantime would suggest what you do is complete Mission 4 and then simply skip to mission 5. Apologies but outside my control. Will update this thread when fixed. Thanks Badger633

Hey @BuzzLine No specialised scripting used in the mission only standard mission editor. Just checked and yes get same result with the end button not functioning after the first set of L 39's are created. Going to pass this on to ED as a possible bug. Thanks

@Tr33Top Just flew mission 3 with easy A2A refuel all good.

Hi @NightRider87 @silverdevil I have seen this before, unfortunately it is not related to the mission more a DCS bug or corruption of the log. Not that good with logs so best thing to do is report it on the forum under DCS bugs and add your log. Sorry couldn’t be of more help but outside the control of the campaign scripting. Let me know if @NightRider87cannot post onto the Badger633 section of the forums under campaigns.

Hi @Tr33Top Ok , that may explain things. Originally when the campaign was first made coordinates were displayed for a period and then disappeared. Then there was a facility to recall them using F10 for another couple of minutes. As this put a time pressure on pilots especially in VR, I changed the missions so that the coordinates would remain until you pressed the space bar. So the recall was no longer needed. Unfortunately checking through the brief I did not omit the sentence mentioning a recall facility. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and will update the briefs for next update. So does this then explain your issue? Keep the coords up until you have finished with them then press space bar. Hope this helps.

@Tr33Top OK send through the track. don’t think you have to recall coords, they should stay on screen until you press space bar.

Hi @Tr33Top Just flew mission 3 ( not the simple version) and had no problems this end. The F10 functioned correctly. If you are still having trouble could you send me a Track of your mission so I can see why you are not getting the F10 function. Are you on the simple A2A version? ( Make sure, if you leave the tanker early, to abort the refuel as you will not get the radio menu until you do this.) Hope this helps.

Hi @Tr33Top Just to check, assume you are aware there are three different bindings to call up the radio menu? One for on the ground, one for radio 1 and one for radio 2. If this is not the issue i will check it this end.
-
@Talvid Glad you got it sorted. Yeah this latest mission update definitely falls under the category of designing in more mission flexibility to allow for the different ways different pilots approach the same mission.
-
Hey @Talvid, I believe you. As you know it is a timing issue, the way DCS works looking for 4 bombs within zone is to look for 4 bombs in the air at one time. Have realised this does not work if the bombs are well spaced so have changed the way success is detected in this mission. Update is with ED and will be in next update. Trouble is ED has increased time between updates which does not help us getting missions fixed for you guys.
