  1. So upon further inspection my pc is using abnormally high ram in the desktop to the tune of 9gb, anyone else have simialr issues? might be why im getting lag and stutter as it ends up using 30gb
  2. i've watched various videos including the ones linked, the method seems to be don't use full power till the tail is up, use differential throttle and also if i remember correctly dont fly below 160mph unless landing.
  3. If only we had an actual bomber version, i'd love to give the axis airfield a cookie
  4. you know what must be done bruv - missile tip 1-3
  5. WOOT HYPEEEE. who is ready to raise havok on storm of war
  6. As am i, im also wondering how incendiary ammo will act in comparsion to a metal skinned aircraft as well. Also wanna see if i can land it with a wing a lot of my wing missing like i did in the spitfire xD
  7. a couple 50 cals would be most welcome though i do wonder how much better it would be in terms of damage able to be done.
  8. I'm experiancing severely high memory usage on normandy that causes my pc to use 90% of the ram leading to eventual crash and stuttering within 20 minutes. a shame really as I used to really like flying on normandy. specs for the those interested - Asus X99 Pro, Intel 5930k, 32gb corsair vengance lpx, geforce rtx 2080xc, corsair rm850x psu and a 1tb kingston ssd
  9. so who wants to do low level raids on SOW when the mossie is here
  10. Pretty much nailed it, one thing I will not as well wich is also a shame is that the shift in skillset required also changes over time. Its why price for repairing the older aircraft has gone up significantly over the years as the skills become lower and lower in how many people posses it. Heat is a big issue but also as you said is the purpose, a point i would is that the mosquito was not expected at least to my knowledge, to sustain massive G forces. though some aircraft made of even older wood construction can sustain high g'. Though I will say that metals have a much better time in much more varied climates. Some mosquitos actually did last in service till the 60s with aerial mapping companies in Canada and South America. https://youtu.be/skvHQ0YPZEQ edit: i'd also say that comparing the mosquito to the p38 is not exactly a fair assessment of metal vs wood, as each aircraft had different roles, the mosquito being more a mutli role combat aircraft with secondary fighter characteristics vs the p38 being a twin fighter with secondary ground strike role.
  11. Hmm perhaps it could be to do with the wing fences stopping downwash from root to tip of the wing? im not so sure how much of an effect they would have. I think the only logical way to test it would be to compare the in game aircraft with a real one
  12. The adverse yaw one is a funny one, there are many ways aircraft designers compensate for it, differential aliarons, powered ones, aerodynamic balancing. The thing that needs to be remembered is that the faster an aircraft goes the more lift it is producing and the more it can hang on so to speak, at lower speeds it becomes less stable and is more noticable however a lot of the aircraft we have in the sim are not so suseptable to adverse yaw but more so stalling at high aoa causing the aircraft to osciliate laterally. especially in winds. also another thing is that adverse yaw is not entirely to blame when it comes to flying coordinated. prop aircraft have torque and gyroscopic forces where are jets lack this meaning they get significantly less force to counter. also why its easier imo to fly a jet trimmed then it is a prop aircraft. low speeds and high alpha jets most certainly need the rudder, more so on the older aircraft like the mig 15 and 21, new aircraft not so much as some have roll coupled rudders iirc.
  13. Wow this thready really blew up, nice to see that something useful came out of it and it didn't entirely devolve. I will say this though, I am now very rusty in warbirds as I've been studying for the Air Transport Pilots License. I can't even hit the side of a barn door now lmao. on the plus side with the mosquito being out soon we can all enjoy the action of people (including myself) crashing many mossies.
  14. Put it this way, if they would of released it and it needed work then people would be mad. If they release it later then people will also be mad about that too as its schedule. I would say that them taking the time, effort and resources to refine the module is a good thing as it means that we get a more complete one in the long run. plus who knows, maybe we get the rockets and radios on release too Besides with how many modules have been released as incomplete regardless of if its pre ordered or on release then this can only be a good thing. perhaps more people will be happier and will trust their future releases. I for one love the ww2 stuff and cant wait to see how many people crash the mossie on take off from torque and seeing how the damage model will look will be interesting as well.
  15. I enjoy both but i do prefer the mig overall in fights though there are some things worth noting for both aircraft. The sabre has a full moving horizontal stabiliser allowing less stick force which IRL will allow the pilot to fight for longer with less strain. not to mention the cockpit set up is friendlier for longer flights, environmental control system being one feature. then there is weapons load out. bombs rockets and also a way better gunsight. radar guided while the mig 15 has effectively the K-14 from the Mustang. Another thing with the sabre is that it can reach the higher speeds as the Mig 15 uses a standard tail as opposed to the moving one meaning at around mach 0.92 it starts to suffer from shockwave build up on the wings washing onto the tail meaning thus stalling it out. where as the sabre would get full elevator authority. I've heard the Sabre also has an aliaron system allowing higher speeds to be acheived while mantaining control. Though it seems like there may be an issue with it at the moment. Pilot training is massive as well though which in the Korean war very much helped the victory rates. One thing i defo will say is that the mig requires a lot more trigger disciplin, less rounds, slower guns, waiting for the right moment. been playing MP a bit more with it in the korean server and most of my losses are due to the fuel tanks being hit in the wing and running out of fuel. Had some great close in dog fights that were hard fought, one of which we ended up both rtb, i run out of fuel and glided back and he was smokey (more then usual for a sabre).
  16. Mig 15 and Mig 21 AI have questionable flight performance, if i remember correctly the 21 uses its old fm before they updated it. so players use the new while ai use the old. for the mig 15 they fight in very specific ways i have noticed and depending on difficulty will decide how they fight, e.g in a sabre they will try go vertical, if they do that against a mig 15 or consiquently other aircraft with high thrust to weight then they become easier targets.
  17. i was thinking of balanced not in the terms of what is better then the other but rather controlability wise.
  18. cant speak for any fighters of the time other then what we have in the sim but i get the feeling that the spitfire has far better low speed handling due to the wing? less drag perhaps? that being said the hurricane seems like it handled well and was a great weapons platform, i know the typhoon and tempest had some issues with the engines and controls ripping themselves apart and randomly catching fire. I'm of the opinion that the Spitfire is one of the most well balanced aircraft in the sim, right up until we pull the trigger and it bounces around the place. Though the FW190D9 does fly very well at most speed ranges with not a lot of trim where as the 109, mustang and 47 at least in my opinion need a lot more trim throughout the range but perhaps thats just because I have flown the spitfire the most. just seems like the 109 has high/low speed trim issues due to using fixed tabs, the 47 and 51 suffer somewhat at low speed due to weight and require some trimming but the spitfire can almost be flown at one trim level as long as you dont let go of the stick.
  19. I would love a lysander for one. the thing is massive and the procedures are rather interesting, i believe there are a couple videos of them flying, one by shuttleworth no less.
  20. how is typing related to another games play style when it is a core feature of the game that has been implemented since before 1.5. I've flown dcs since 2015, experiance generally doesn't dictate if someone uses chat or not, hell i use it even in vr while flying stick and rudder. sometimes it's just easier to use chat then things like srs as it can be a pain to set up. As for how many people use chat, drop into kirks, tti, frat, aerobatics online etc etc etc and you'll see chat in mp is used a fair bit. as is srs. its personal preference. As far as autopilot goes? I say why not add it, if its something that can be disabled on the mission maker level then it doesn't really have an effect. I for one would love it on SP/PVE servers where i can end up flying for close to 40 mins total knowing i will not get attacked by ai. Even if the hold is accurate to +- 100ft it could be useful. For pvp i would say there is more debate as pvp will heavily depend on skill, endurance and aircraft knowledge. being more rested is a massive advantage coming into a fight then being worn out.
  21. even with trim, if you slam full power on the ground you'll soon feel the torque. hell i sometimes dont trim the spitfire on take off when im in a rush and i have to apply full rudder deflection to track straight at high power.
  22. that would make sense, like perhaps a time at given setting mark or something.
  23. As far as i can tell that mosquito they had didnt even have props or gear on it? at least i cant find any pictures as such, hurts my eyes just as much as seeing a spitfire with a daimler engine installed.
  24. I dont fly with force feedback, i have X56 Rhino and Pro Flight rudders, i think its perhaps i just have a curve that works for me though, in saying that i have been flying the ww2 stuff for years now
  25. while it seems the mossie can be flown solo, i would suggest that in servers that do not give you your position that the navigator is still beficial as it allows the pilot to keep his eyes outward scanning for bandits while the nav is messing with the charts and looking for landmarks (or doing DR) would be interesting having long range missions being done on some servers using a nav for the mossies.
