Hi all guys!, just wanted to share with you something I have been working for the last weeks. Since the Viper is my favourite fighter aircraft of all times, I wanted to make something special for it now that the template has been released. After dozens of hours of research and painting I think it is ready for sharing with you all. I like weathered planes, and the viper is no exception, however, I think it's a tricky plane to worn out without making it look "overdone" or breaking its sharp and stylized lines so I tried to keep it coherent and neat with very precise and tiny details and dirts. As always, all the weathering you see in the plane is based in real life weathering, combined in the model to achieve a believable weathered looking viper. I ended up creating dozens of highly detailed layers for this skin, trying to avoid the "grainy" look of the default skin and materials as the Falcon has a quite shiny and smooth look even when weathered so I remade pretty much the whole materials and textures from the scratch. Taking advance of the high resolution of the textures, I wanted to be able to zoom in to the plane to insane levels while keeping a high level of detail, so many details are only visible form really close, but the plane is filled with tons of accurate details, dust, dirt, scratches, chipping, etc. The skin features: -Highly detailed weathering, based on real life images. -Greatly improved afterburner fx, with adjusted color, intensity and variation. -Added nozzles textures and missing nozzle plates details, including materials and AO map. -Added detailed tail side formation lights model and materials. -Added missing cockpit dashboard screws and panel lines, including normal map and materials. -Fixed some alingment, missing details and issues in some normal maps, AO maps and/or roughmets. -Added all the missing rivets and details available to all the normal maps. -Detailed center line and TGP pylons for diffuse and materials. -Adjusted base colors of the skin. -Adjusted canopy color and material for both dark and yellowish versions. v1.1: -Added the missing logos over air intake sides (special thanks to DonJosh and his wife for helping me with this) -Minor adjustments and added some little pieces detailed weathering. v1.2: -Fixed dynamic numbers issue due to latest ED changes. ***To install update, simply drop the folder over the old one and override. Well, enough talking, now say hi to my interpretation of the real life 14th FS, WW 90-808 unit, aka "Bob" :P: Tons of screens here and here This skin was inspired by the first F-16C b50 unit reaching 10.000 flight hours in 2019, so I thought it would be perfect for a weathered style. I didnt tried to replicate the real one's weathering, but making my own (white nose :P) representation of it. Download link https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3309461/ As always I hope you all like and enjoy it. Thanks!

No pics at the moment my friend, sorry, I think it is better to see the whole thing so I dont have to redo all screens too :P thanks for the patience!
-
thanks buddy, hope you all like it when finished! yeah, Im experiencing the same issue...looks like compression is having a hard time with the colors of the viper...but it is what it is I guess...

Working on it...still many things to do but I think it os going well.

This!!...it was alredy a very time consuming task to make an external sound mod, change, load, test, start again so now, without a clue of what parameters are being used in the sdefs it is a no go for me. I could undertand a samples protection system, but protecting a few sdef files????
-
I know it isn't a classic reflection in the mirror...and no, it is NOT working properly at the moment based on logic and the latest video from ED.
-
It doesnt work properly as the effect seems to behave erratically, missing reflections for no reason and it wont make anything unless literally at 2m from the plane, nothing like in the video.
-
After watching the new "DCS WORLD - FREE FOR ALL MONTH!" video: I noticed that SSLR are working correctly and looking great!...After a few patches since this feature was introduced, it still works incorrectly so I wonder if we can expect it to be fixed in the near term. thanks!
-
Well, that basically means that it is pretty inviable to make external sound mods imho, even with own sound samples. It makes no sense to change parameters, "blind", then loading the sim, test, and change back without knowing how the original set is configured as a reference. Hope this decision can be reviewed at some point as I cant find a solid reason to block some config files.

model viewer 2 liveries tool plug in not showing up
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to burtnutz's topic in General Bugs
After doing this, it will load, but ONLY the first time...next time I open mv2 again it wont work so I have to delete constantly to get the liveries window to open  Also, environment slider doesnt work. -
I dont understand why sdef's are encrypted too...sound files maybe but the sdefs??, how am I supossed to see what the gain, attack, doppler, etc. propieters are set by default then?...making sdefs from scratch makes no sense if I dont know anything about the actual ones.

Sure, is part of a skin Im working on...btw, this is just texture work, no 3d work, just to be clear so at the moment no plans about doing anything else unless I find something I can improve. thanks!
-
Thanks a lot man!!, just got the Viper so hadn't took a look at the skins yet, just realiced your amazing works!!, really top notch as always!
-
Thanks mate!!...about the template, not sure, I read something about issues but havent messed with it enough yet so not sure what the problems are...all I can say is that I downloaded it again a couple of days ago just in case.
-
Thanks a lot buddy!!:)
-
Thanks for the info, it was very useful! Im used to believe that when in PS things seem to point out they point inward in game...but I might be wrong... Btw, just finished adding all the missing stuff over the cockpit's dash in all layers (diffuse, roughmet and normal map)...it was difficult to find all the bolts as they are different on each side, here are some wip pics:

[WORK IN PROGRESS] External model quality
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to Mainstay's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Nice, I'm also working on these ;) good to know, thanks! Btw, I also added the missing external canopy details using the official template...edited the normal map, roughmet and diffuse for the canopy frame and also for the canopy itself (too high specular reflection imo) ...still a lot of work to do but seems to be shaping nicely: -
Where can I find the full set of arguments for the texture lua? thanks!

[WORK IN PROGRESS] External model quality
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to Mainstay's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
There is also many missing details in the dashboard like rivets and vent holes, very characteristic of the viper in both internal and external models: the back of the cockpit also lacks a lot of details. hope to see it asap. -
Absolutely not, sorry.
-
I think that rivets have wrong normal map, they seem to be inverted. They poiny outside instead of the opposite.
-
I wish you HB guys could make all modules for dcs, you rock!! Thanks!

having a former HB's F-14 3d artist in the team, Im sure the external model will look absolutely staggering and, at least, as good as the Tomcat if not better :)
