2.7.0.4625 Open Beta crash at second mission load
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to XPACT's topic in Game Crash
Same here. I'm getting consistent crash on second mission load, don't think I have had a single crash when loading the first mission. I always use lalt+enter to enter real full screen (really removes stuttering for me) so I do it everytime I enter in the cockpit. Sometimes I do lalt+tab to change between windows but even then I get the crash. I have renamed options.lua, refreshed my settings and deleted fxo and metashaders2. Still having crashes no matter if I use mods or not. Something I have been experiencing since very long in DCS is that if the sim is in real full screen (lalt+enter) and I try to lalt+tab when in the mission loading screen, the game will always crash. It must NOT be in full creen to be able to not crash when lalt+tab during a mission load screen. Before loading a mission and after the mission is loaded (you are in the cockpit) there is no proble lalt+tab in real full screen. As I said, this issue is NOT from 2.7, but maybe now it might have some impact in the crashes. Of course I still have this problem now in the latest 2.7 but also the second mission loading crash even when not in full screen. dcs.log-20210423-104828.zip -
Canopy reflection is a little overdone
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to FoxTwo's topic in 3D Model and Cockpit
Actually I'm saying that reflections are fine and, as you would do in real life, you must deal with them so nothing to change imho. -
Too "glassy" and reflective water.
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to Skysurfer's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
Yeah, water reflections would look sooo much better smoothed by the fresnel effect, even a low res reflection would be more than enough with a very slight wind amount. -
Sorry, had no idea the images couldn't be loaded...the first post is alredy edited, they should work now. Even with gamma 1, which is really low and dark, these clouds don't look as detailed as the images from ED, but definitely look better than at higher gammas. The problem is then, the cockpit will be way too dark.

Too "glassy" and reflective water.
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to Skysurfer's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
Absolutely!!, this missing effect is what is making sun reflection over the water to look wrong: This: Instead of this: Some improvements are being made in the water so I hope this thing will be one of them. Big water bodies look so odd and wrong without the milky satinated sun reflection... -
Shadows LOD soft to hard transition...any solution?
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to McDaniel's topic in DCS 2.9
try setting shadows to "flat" instead of "default". But yeah, they should fix that. -

Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to FoxTwo's topic in 3D Model and Cockpit
Focusing would mean nothing if the sun reflection is glaring in your eyes...how would you "focus" on anything behind that?. -

This is how it is in real life when conditions are met. Take a look at this footage...look how EXTREME reflections are when the sun is in the correct spot: -
+1. I had this in Caucasus

Water is too dark and horrible
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to Fabiano-VIKING's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
Yeah!, definitely woth a try. Maybe something about 09h or 17h, about 16knots winds plus some slight clouds...it seems to make a difference, specially when not looking the water too vertically and/or too low. -
droplets on windshield when flying through clouds?
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in Wishlist
yes, but unless DCS actually model these particular conditions, maybe is not a good idea to have these droplets everytime we pass though a cloud...otherwise I'm absolutely in with this of course. Also, My initial video was about droplets UNDER rain, not inside a cloud. -
2.7.0.4625 Open Beta crash at second mission load
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to XPACT's topic in Game Crash
I have exactly that same configuration for years, still having it for 2.7...crashing all the time. Tried all the ideas from this thread but I still having random crashes ONLY when loading a second, third, etc. mission. -
I would love to see this effect in DCS: (not a fighter aircraft but it ilustrates the point) I would also completely remove the odd mini clouds arround the aircraft that happen when flying under rain at the moment, they look terrible and are not realistic. There should be only fog, rain strips over the cockpit's canopies and the very thin and small droplets lines when flying under rain, all dependant on the severity of the rain.

droplets on windshield when flying through clouds?
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in Wishlist
Sorry, my bad, I posted the video in the wrong thread, of course there shouldn't be rain streams over the cockpit when flying through the clouds. -
I agree with all, however, Im not sure it is possible with nowadays power to achieve very sharp edged clouds...hope to be wrong though.

Too "glassy" and reflective water.
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to Skysurfer's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
lol, what?? that will exclusively depend on water bumpiness and reflected light from objects. New water definitely needs more work but c'mon!!!! -
Water is too dark and horrible
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to Fabiano-VIKING's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
I partially agree...I mean, the old water was TERRIBLE in waves size and distance detail, as well as the reflections were waaaayyy too sharp and clear. However,I agree it looks now too dark when flying low (it looks good at certain height), almost black. Something I have noticed is that the too dark water is only taking place when setting a clear sky at noon. Other than that it doesn't look so dark and it actually looks quite similar to the old one in terms of color and brightness. example: -
The "problem" now with the water is that a huge physical effect is still missing: Sun light dispersion due to waves. This makes for a too dark and flat water's surface in most situations, I mean, water will be difficult to distinguish from the sky in a fighter aircraft in combat most of the time (as per real fighter pilots), specially when looking the side where the light is impacting. However, when looking to the backlight side, and unless sun is very high in the sky (pretty much on top of the vertical), there will be a HUGE "milky" sun light reflection area up to the horizon that will contribute to discern water from sky and height, the higher the more spread the sun shine will be and more affected by the atmosphere scattering tinting it with a nice golden color. Here is a little example video showing how difficult it is to distinguish water from sky when in a dogfight and at the same time the missing FULL sun light effect over the water in DCS: Note how that satinated sun shine is 90% missing at the moment in DCS. Some shots showing this effect too: From extreme altitude:
-
Maybe you should look twice the pictures because all of them, except the last one, are flying UNDER the clouds. Not sure what you mean with flying in "sunshine"?, are you expecting shadows without a sun/moon casting light? I would love to see some screens showing what is so wrong btw. I provided some supporting my point but havent seen any supporting the "too dark" argument which is quite curious...

wrong thread, sorry. -
First impressions and criticisms.
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to dudeman17's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
The key here is that SSAO must be enable for better cockpit (and the rest of the world) light representation. However, the new SSAO is way too weak in darkness and has also a too small radius of effect. It should be much stronger, that would make everything looks so much more realistic and nicer... -
Rain setting with better visibility would be great
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to lax22's topic in Wishlist
Yeah!, the rain curtain is very extreme (quite as dense as the cloud itself), hope ED gives the chance to set a particular level of rain amount so we can have more visibility under the rain (less fog). -
White caps, should be much whiter, have more randomness in their visual aspect and be sharper/detailed ...the animation speed should also be slowed down a lot (stay alive a longer time). The problem now is also that they ALL appear and disappear at the same time, instead of be dependant of each particular white cap. Example of extreme white caps:

Small shakings/vibrations during entry into clouds
Ala12Rv-watermanpc replied to redbarm's topic in Wishlist
Hope this gets introduced with future weather system improvements.
