F/A-18E,F,G, Advanced Super Hornet - Block III+ - F/A-18XT
aaron886 replied to SkateZilla's topic in Military and Aviation
Plenty of pilots that don't fly it complain. They see it as money that could be spent on maintaining/upgrading their platform. Besides, the military is full of people with different political opinions, just like everywhere else. Hornet drivers in the 80s didn't hate the Hornet, they loved it. It was the Tomcat guys who were doing all the trash talking. Think about it: - No NFO in the back - FCS that will give you 50 degrees of alpha... utterly impossible in the Tomcat - Gucci avionics (especially for the time) - Varied mission set -
Extension is part of the Pro package. Other grips are upcoming.

Unless you have an actual, commercial-grade hydraulic stick, FFB is garbage.

Roses are red, VKB is back, Cash me ousside, Howbow dah?

You're right, I looked back at that and realized I forgot to actually subtract the G suit again! Edited. Let's say 5 g for 10-15 seconds instead of 6.
-
I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Do you mean give my opinion on what kind of numbers I would suggest for g tolerance in a historical WWII scenario? Same as before, but let's say we reduce the effectiveness of AGSM by 1 or 2 g. I would suggest a pilot be able to pull 5 g for about 10-15 seconds before vision begins to gray and fade around the edges.
-
Sorry, no. I went a little off-topic then, naturally began thinking of modern fighters. I think, as you say, technique for AGSM was not so well understood and certainly not so well taught at the time. Somewhat lower numbers would be appropriate. It does, I've had the pleasure (pain?) of experiencing it. The onset rate of current centrifuges in US inventory is about 6 g per second. So... it takes 1.25 seconds for the centrifuge to reach 7.5 g, or 1.5 seconds to reach 9 g. Pretty fast.
-
Well, if you want to simulate a trained aviator, you want to simulate someone who knows how to handle G with maximum onset rate. The centrifuge(s) in the States simulate 6g per second, which is what Einherjer's video shows. With a G suit and training, onset of that rate for relatively short periods of air combat training is routine. DCS should model: - An average resting G tolerance of about 4-4.5 g. - A g-suit that gives 1-1.5 g tolerance. - AGSM technique that provides about 3-4 g of tolerance. Make allowances for fatigue over time. - The effect of the cardiovascular reflex (give it about half a g, with a 2+ g penalty for push-pull effect.) An onset rate of 6 g/sec should be no problem in this model, as a pilot properly trained starts his strain instinctively. If I were ED, I'd relax the current model, add color loss/stars in place of the basic black tunnel, model fatigue, and model the push-pull effect.

World Scale is off (Everything is tiny!)
aaron886 replied to NakedSquirrel's topic in Virtual Reality
Feels right to me. I think some1 is correct about the Ka-50, it's likely that the hand model is actually too small, but not something one notices unless in VR. That's why content creation for VR is tough... all these details become more noticeable. -
It does, but it's still at least a more complicated model than some other simulators. The modeling of the cardiovascular reflex seems overdone. It would be nice to see more color loss modeled, and A-LOC as mentioned by OP. Unfortunately, it's hard to model what g-induced light-loss looks like.

Totally not how this sim works. I'm sure you've been in a public session! Short version is that people don't just want small private sessions, and the side effect of larger public sessions is random people joining the server who can't be trusted to let others enjoy their sim. Perfect, that's getting right to the heart of the issue! I think those two things are essential. The server should be able to force a longer delay.

Thanks for keeping us updated! I appreciate you asking them. :)

This is how an afterburner sounds in the cockpit

For the love of all that is holy sync those props! :helpsmilie: -
I imagine it's a pretty busy time for them. Thanks for the update! Waiting with anticipation.

Rainer, I know I already asked, but I've got a few friends interested in picking up either the Gunfighter or the Virpil Mongoos. As is generally the case with these high-end limited-production sticks, their concern (and mine) is making a decision before the opportunity to pick one up is gone. Any update on showing us some more information on the dry clutch system? Preferably a video showing it in action with both slow/gradual and fast inputs at various levels of damping.

As Von Clausewitz would say, "The aggressor is always peace-loving; he would prefer to take over our country unopposed."
-
No. It's smoke and mirrors. I expect LM will make an affected cost reduction only... one that they were prepared for all along. POTUS will look good for having made such a "big league" deal. Yuuuge savings.
-
In my opinion, you wouldn't go wrong with the Rift for flight sims. The biggest problem facing VR for flight sims is performance and resolution, which are relatively interdependent. I don't see either of those improving enough by the next generation to make a significant difference. We can't have more resolution without better performing simulators, and those don't seem to be on the way any time soon.

DelanClip IR Clutter with TrackIR Camera
aaron886 replied to adese's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
And that's with the Light Filter Threshold turned all the way up? Wow. -
None of that... go with finger lifts! I don't know of any jets with throttles shaped as shown that are lifted over gates. The F-16 does that, but it's hinged rather than lifted. Finger lifts are much more ergonomic

F-18 grip, WARTHOG compatible

I think you'll find none of your negative comments affect the delivery of any products. Are you saying you're trying to help by complaining? :music_whistling: -
Aluminium Joystick/HOTAS table mounts - Monster Tech
aaron886 replied to meisterolsen's topic in For Sale
Never seen anyone who shelled out the money for these things anything but pleased with how well they work! Thanks for the update, meisterolsen. For anyone else curious, VKB has confirmed that they have supplied MonsterTech with necessary information to build a new baseplate for the Gunfighter. Hopefully it will be available early enough that it will ship at the same time as the stick! :) -
Agreed, but I think the engineers at VKB are aware of sticktion as a common problem/complaint. They probably wouldn't ship the dry clutch system as a value-adding feature that causes sticktion. TM, on the other hand, seemed either not to know or care that sticktion is a problem, and opted to use the cheapest possible solution for the Warthog internals, with no particular care for control force shaping.
-
Rainer, I'd really like some more info on the dry clutch system! Especially video of it in use at various settings. For me, VKB's experience and the dry clutch system are two reasons I'm leaning towards the Gunfighter with TMW grip, but the VPC Mongoos is a viable challenger with its impressive looking new grip. Now is a great time to show us more of what the Gunfighter is bringing to the table.
-
Rainer, do the Gunfighter base mounting screws match the Black Mamba? If they aren't already, I hope the VKB designers are in contact with the fine folks at MonsterTech to provide dimensions so that I can use their mounting system with this stick from day one!
