  1. Thanks a lot guys for your very practical suggestions... Will take them and keep practising. One thing, though. Auto-throttle using the J-key seems very usable... Thanks to this, I have not had a problem in speed-control (so I kept dancing around a few meters away from the tanker). All my problems lie in heading and altitude controls... I think I'll keep using the J-key for the moment, and practise full-manual control later when I am confortable with heading and altitude controls. Hope that's not too far in the future Thanks again.
  2. Other than its power output rating, another important specification of a power supply unit is its ability to keep its output stable. If the output is not stable, it may harm the electronic circuits on the components in the long run, ultimately leading to something like what is happening to your system. Specifically, is your power supply Bronze-, Silver- or Gold-rated? Obviously, the more expansive the Metal, the more stable the output. I am not sure, but 750W for your computer specs seems a bit on the edge... Even if it's enough on the paper, the power supply unit might be pushed close to its limit, in which the output is likely to be unstable. Not 100% sure. So please take my words with a grain of salt..
  3. Besides the above suggestions, you can also try lowering the cpu oc to 4.4 or 4.3 and see. It's quite normal that extreme oc-ing leads to system instability.
  4. I can testify to that, as I myself am among the time vampires:helpsmilie: Thanks Cichlidfan!
  5. So difficult and frustrating...... I was so close to the basket, but always missed that little bit. Again and again... The problems that I think I encountered are: 1. Altitude-hold by pressiong the H key is very inaccurate. It has an uncertainty of ~20 meters, meaning that if I press H at the altitude, say, 6970m, the altitude after stablization is always something in between 6970 and 6990. 2. The tanker changes altitude quite frequently. That, quite obviously, brings nothing but more frustration... Questions: for the final approach for the connection, how should I adjust the altitude and heading? Manually? That seems so far quite impossibly difficult to me... Any tips and suggestions? Much appreciated... It seems that tonight I'll have to sleep in fustration :helpsmilie:
  6. One thing to take note of: if you get TW, a pair of rudder pedals will be necessary. The only axis on TW that can be assigned to rudder is very inconvenient to use. If I were you, I would stick to the current stick, and get TIR. Or better, get X52 and TIR. I know there are a lot of simmers on this forum who hate X52 (and Saitek, the company producing X52). But at least in my case, it has served me very well for the ~5 years before I sold it to a young simmer. It's cheap, has lots of buttons, and has enough precision. It also has a very convenient axis to which you can assign the rudder.
  7. Guys, you are getting my hopes up... I have a 8GB (now 16 GB) + 680 2GB, so my FPS has been decent (almost) always. But there is no such thing as too decent... Soo looking forward to 1.2.7 now. One thing, though. So much effort has been put into 1.2.7. But when EDGE comes out, will all the optimization that went into 1.2.7 still apply? Or everything need to be done from ground up once again, due to the change of graphix engine? Thanks.
  8. Very informative and interesting at the same time. Great documentary.
  9. I just committed fratricide... on purpose... :joystick: I was practising AAR in Su-33 (second time practising this for me, with a history of 100% failure, fyi). The tanker in front of me was changing altitude every few minutes, right before I can line up for the final approach. After half an hour of trying and failure, I was too annoyed to let this tanker fly around before me, so I gunned it down... without knowing the consequences... Then I found that, this mission, which I downloaded here in this forum, was designed such that the tanker changes its altitude from 7000m to 4000m over a distance of about 300km ... which explained everything. In the end I didn't success in AAR today. But after the modifying the mission, I got everything under control, and was very close to a success... but it's already close to midnight. Happy enough for me. Will try again tomorrow.:D Cya
  10. Now that the video that I linked to is gone, what I wanted to say is that, the steam-like layer of thin air above the Su-27 wings (in the currently-new theme picture) are air-votices created by the sharp and straight front edge of the wings at large AoA. It leads to the increase of lift and more maneuverbility at large AoA. (So it is afterall a phenomenon seen only within the atmosphere :D)
  11. Well, in seriousness, the steam-like thin air above the wing is clearly a phenomenon that is seen only within the atmosphere... So it cannot be too far from a planet... Anyway, that is not the point... Just enjoy the beauty, and be paranoid by the possibilty hinted by this banner. :D
  12. You are welcome  It's nice timing purchasing FC3 now, in view of the imminent release of AFM for fast-movers in FC3. Enjoy flying!
  13. +1 for this, but I guess we have to live with it, at least for now... After adding another 8G of ram to my desktop (totaling 16G), I can load all the mods that I wanted, and so far I have not had a single random crash, which happened quite often before. Checking the resource monitor while running DCS, the occupied plus standing-by memory easily reaches ~8G.
  14. You need the original LOMAC instead of FC1 or FC2. Get it, install it, then you can proceed to install FC3 into DCSW.
  15. So DCS: Wags is being planned? :music_whistling:
  16. They were there when I posted the OP. Something is going on behind the scene..
  17. Thanks, people... Of course I know it is a risky business. I am hesitating... @mhe, that method is indeed very, well, bossy...... But I can see my 3570K flying around because I didn't place it perfectly before hammering it.. Maybe I'll try it when the warranty is over. Thanks again guys. PS: @mhe, try [ YOUTUBE]2eFzNpTOaOw[/YOUTUBE ] (remove the two spaces)
  18. If that would indeed be the case, I would be totally pleasantly surprised! Pure awesomeness! :megalol:
  19. Look at the top of the webpage (above the tool bar)! Surprisingly, the new theme for this forum is a picture of Su-27, which happens to be my favorite warbird. I would have thought that, if there was ever going to be such a theme, it would be F-15C or some other American planes, since the development of this sim in the near future is so heavily leaning towards NATO planes according to published information (e.g. the F-15 AFM, which supposedly will come before that of Su-27, and the talking of full DCS sims of F18, etc.) Is this a hint? Will the AFM of Su-27 come before that of F-15C? Are we seeing a full DCS: Su-27 in the near future? Please say yes, to at least to one of them... :D Because that would be awesome! Please...... :P
  20. Have any of you done this before? I am very tempted, as heat has prevented me from OCing the cpu to the degree I wanted, and the noise from the CPU cooling fans is very annoying. Might try it some time.

  22. Happy birthday!
  23. Been waiting for Su-27 AFM... A little impatient TBH... After tasting the AFMs of Su-25 and A10-C, I am bearly coping with the current SFM of Su-27...
  24. Congratulations to all the winners (with a tiny bit of envy...)
  25. +1 for depth of field. Would multiply the realism of the sim by a million. It's utterly unrealistic to have everything in perfect focus (particularly fences with sharp edges!)
