In the long run, you'll probably end up getting them all if you're anything like me. At least the modern stuff. Don't be intimidated by any of them. The most you need is the diagram of the hotas from the manuals, the rest of what you need is covered in training missions and a plethora of youtube videos. I find I learn best by just running into situations where I wish I knew how to do something better. That's when i start digging through the manuals. And the blackshark is by far my favorite helo in the game, the gaz is cool but just doesn't have the range or firepower that the Ka-50 has. I only started flying the huey and the mi-8 because of the DDCS multiplayer server. Slinging crates.

Don't get hung up on the discussions between myself, pingpong, and Bitmaster. They were experiencing real issues with aura sync using too much cpu that I myself am not experiencing. Pingpong at least seems to have gotten himself sorted out and Bitmaster's solution of foregoing said software works too. I'm finding that any stuttering I'm experiencing in the game seem to be stemming from the weather engine. Try a mission with heavy clouds, then try a mission with clear skies. For me the difference is night and day and indicates something within the game that could be fixed. If even on clear skies you're experiencing stutters, first make sure dcs.exe is set to "prefer maximum performance" in nv control panel 3d settings, then I'd double check system and gpu drivers, or even try process lasso configure DCS to only run on physical cores. Also running "dcs_updater.exe repair" or using the shortcut from the start menu after a patch should be all you need, rather than reinstalling everything in most cases.

I took a 190 up to 7 or 8km without a thought about oxygen and started getting double vision not long after 7km. Not sure if that was from ground level or sea level, but on the normandy map. That was back in 2.1 however, but it is modeled. Weather settings may have an effect on how thin the air is at certain altitudes. Might be an option in the gameplay/misc settings as well, not that I'd know for sure without looking. The effect was not immediate.. my screen just gradually started to get more blurry until I was seeing double. It took me a moment to realize what was happening, but once I did I descended until it stopped. Only after the entire experience did it occur to me that I could've just turned on my oxygen.

So, eyeballing this thread over the last few days.. I finally got around to checking this out myself. I've mostly been using the Hornet Instant Action ACM 8V8 Su-27s and Mig-29's, but for some reason kept stuttering while flying this mission, on both my monitor and VR. Not a constant stutter, just a pause here and there on the monitor, or in VR I get the steamVR room/loading screen and it's only for a moment, but enough for me to consider it a problem. At this point my PC is about as top of the line as it gets for gaming purposes. I've spent quite a few hours over the last few months trying to put my finger on something causing said stuttering, as well as getting around to PC upgrades that I've been wanting for some time now. I'm pretty meticulous about ensuring my system has up to date drivers that are installed correctly and making sure my hardware works. It never occurred to me that it might be the weather engine in DCS. This particular mission has very thick cloud cover. I went and opened it in mission editor and changed the weather to "Summer - Clear sky no wind" Stutters are completely gone. Something bad going on with clouds or weather it seems. I'm open to suggestions if anybody's experience differs to mine. Tested dynamic weather and seems less likely to happen, but did encounter one small stutter and have no clue what exactly about the weather is causing it, perhaps a combination of weather and missile launches? Going back to clear skies, seems to run smooth as butter 100% of the time. More info - my visibility is set to medium, and the stutter on the same mission with clouds has been present regardless of changes to my in-game settings.

You can program saitek joysticks using Logitech software now which imo is a step up from when saitek was saitek. I have a buddy that uses the old silver/blue x52 that I've verified this with. IME I would only use the software to program the mouse nub to key presses for slew. At least, when I had my x52 pro it was the only way to make use of the mouse nub in DCS. The in-game "Modifier" function in the control menu will allow you to assign a modifier, which is a button you can hold on the hotas to cause a shift state that allows for a new function to applied to any button. In my case, on my warthog I chose the pinky flap as a modifier, recognized as joy4 in game. So in my case, Joy 1 can be one function, and then Joy4+joy1 can be another. Basically doubling up on the amount of buttons available on the hotas, using nothing but the control menu within DCS. You can add as many modifiers as you want. Or configure them as "Switches" but I prefer modifiers.

I'm a little confused. You want "Unblock" to be checked in the zip file properties and click apply before you extract it. Once done the "Unblock" option will disappear. Neglecting to do so might cause certain files within the zip to not be extracted. That goes for any zip afaik and may only apply to maybe .dll files contained within zip files. I am not certain which files it blocks without first unblocking however. This could still apply when using winzip or 7zip afaik, but I personally have just been copy and pasting from the default windows zip folder method to a new folder I've manually created for the task. Replace my Beatbuddy zip file with your aura zip file Check Unblock Click Apply Then extract all files and run asussetup.exe as admin, reboot, repeat if this was over a previous aura install, if not run aura as admin, choose pattern, close aura, shouldn't have to run it again until a future update unless you want to change patterns. I've found this step to be a "Must do" for all asus drivers/software since they all come in zip files. If I'm misunderstanding and that was done then I'd suspect a conflict with perhaps other software, especially that might control LEDs. Chroma, logitech gaming software. I know older versions of corsair link or icue (cuz i have a h100i, which I aim to eventually get all corsair stuff out of my rig just to lessen the amount of background software running) have caused issue with aura in the past, and usually is fixed with patches/updates. But as stated to PingPong, no harm done if you're fine without your shineys. Also - just stating again that behavior MAY change between aura's default lighting pattern and selecting one for yourself. Was not the case with my current install of Aura, however, in the past I have definitely had questionable CPU usage upon installtion of aura until I selected my own pattern. At this point I'm repeating myself and apologize for that. Just a measure of double checking, nothing to do with my thoughts about anyone personally. IME if lightingservice.exe is showing more than 0.1% cpu in task manager something somewhere can be fixed. YMMV. I know Bit's a tech savvy guy. I'm most likely responding to a typo :) Regardless, lol, if anybody's experiencing stutters not caused by RGB software I think there are probably more recent threads that weren't taken over by asus motherboard owners. And I'll leave this one be.

Looking for advice on new build

If you're gentle with it, which imo you should be if you want to pilot anyway, logitech extreme 3d pro will do you fine, although you'll likely have to learn a lot of keyboard strokes. If you do get too rough with it, it's a lot less painful to replace. I've seen them as low as $35 USD new. Personally my experiences with Saitek aren't good ones. Had bad times with the x52 pro and their profile rudder pedals. x56 is pretty much the same thing as the x55 when saitek was still saitek. But, on the plus, logitech seems to have taken over the software side of things so that much is likely an improvement over when saitek was saitek. That being said - ime saitek uses cheap plastic and is prone to wires breaking over time. CH products might be a good alternative if the warthog is just too much, though you likely want some pedals with that. I'm not sure the CH sticks twist. You would want pedals for sure with the warthog if you went that route. But, joysticks, vr headsets, rudder pedals, DIY, or Obutto or Volair pits.. this is part of why I call this hobby of ours a money sink. Although, there are far more expensive hobbies out there once you get past the initial investments for flight simming. -
No qualms man. I'm not saying you aren't seeing issues. :) Just sharing my best guesses at how to fix it should you have the desire. It's really the only negative I have for asus when it comes to motherboards is that their software can be very particular about the installation process. I only know what I know about it from running into issues myself and having to fix them.

Hey man you said it was taking 5-10% CPU. That would be a red flag to me that either the version of aura is broken or there was an issue with installation. I run DCS with aura all the time. Instead...let me try without and see if I notice a difference. And my comments about process lasso are for everyone else, because it's a piece of software recommended often in these forums and I'm on board with it, it's helped me in the past.. It makes control of certain features of window easier to manage. There are plenty of people complaining of stutters on these forums who have no RGB lighting at all in their builds, some have suggested disabling hyper threading and I have seen DCS put load on logical cores. PLasso lets me deal with that without disabling hyperthreading, and having mentioned in this thread as others have that it can be useful, at least half of that post was simply offering insight in how to avoid the program applying features that are new to me to your games, and not in response to you directly, I apologize for any misunderstanding there. *edit* I closed lightingservice.exe, ran dcs - cpu usage was about 13-18%. I ran Aura which reran lightingservice.exe, cpu usage remained about 13-18%. I restarted DCS and flew the same mission. 13%-18%. I closed lightingservice.exe mid flight.. 13-18%. Keeping in mind I was using Afterburner, which simply reports all cpu usage, not the usage of any one particular program. Since I limit DCS to 6 physical cores you could see 30-50% usage on any one of them to amount to the 13-18% total usage. At the same time it's hard to compare CPU usage, when I'm using a different display setup and GPU, where playing on my monitor vs my VR headset offer completely different results and resolution, v-sync, g-sync, refresh rates and how much fps I maintain comes into play, dx11 titles where I'm right on the edge of a CPU bottleneck, and other dx11 titles where I never see more than 70-80% usage on a single core. Dx12 titles that want everything my system has to give and again others where I'm all GPU. Not something aura seems to have anything to do with in my case. I've now updated to 1.07.22, unblocked the zip, ran "asussetup.exe" as admin, rebooted, ran asussetup.exe again as admin, rebooted, ran aura as admin and seeing no difference in behavior, with lightingservice.exe running or not running. Unblocking zip files downloaded to at least the C: drive if not other drives on the system is a windows 10 thing. Asus delivers all of their drivers and software packages in zip form, and I have had to reinstall drivers or software on more than one occasion because I forgot to unblock a zip, or, didn't follow advice given like the instructions I pulled directly from the latest aura download on the support page from my board, which when not present there is generally found in the ROG forums. I'm not trying to make you eat the fat cake bro. Just going based off what you said, 5-10% cpu usage from lightingservice.exe indicates a problem to me with the installation of aura. If it's for any of the reasons mentioned above, I'd also double check my system driver installtions. I could use an example of a time I didn't realize my 2500k in my previous build was overheating and throttling due to a neglected and dirty heatsink, and how such and such game and this other game run fine, but refunded another game because it ran poorly despite my system being above spec. Ended up buying the game back and having fun with it after replacing that heatsink. Even got a few more years out of that rig by OC'ing it. You have a beastly rig, and DCS might respond more dramatically to a faulty program using more cpu than it should than other titles. Issues like that don't always make themselves apparent in every peice of software. And hey, I don't blame you if you'd rather just live without case candy. I'm just sharing my experiences in dealing with asus software and I'm kind of OCD about ensuring my rig is functioning correctly, i.e. I paid for shiney things. I've taken steps to ensure they work with out conflict. Hope my experience offers some insight, nothing more.

Title says it all. Using latest open beta 2.5.3.24436. Rudder is responding to the trim button. Checked special menu for UH-1H and "Rudder trim" is unchecked. Can work around it in the mean time, but before I figured this out I was having a heck of a time flying. Can provide track or even video footage if necessary but I'd imagine this should be easy to replicate if not isolated to my system.

This is my lightingservice exe usage at idle (screen snip below) , but I'm still using the previous version 1.06.95, and haven't updated to the version released on 10/25. On the support page for the maximus x hero there are some instructions that might have been critical to follow when installing the latest version if you're using 1.07.22, which could very well be bugged.. but copy and pasted from the download link: Please follow the process below for installation, thank you - Right click on Setup icon, run as administrator (this will remove old versions and all of their cache data) - Reboot - Right click on Setup icon, run as administrator (this will install 1.07.22) - Reboot - Right click on desktop Aura icon, run as administrator (this will open Aura) - If devices are missing from Aura UI, hit the refresh icon I'd change the color pattern to something other to default if it was still more than 0.1% cpu usage. Not trying to insult your intelligence or anything, just know from experience asus driver/software installation packages can be finicky. Often when a driver package comes in a zip file from asus, if I don't first "Unblock" the zip file before extracting, a driver or software installation might be corrupted. Be sure and click "Apply" after checking "Unblock" circled in the screen snip below. but this is what your cpu usage from lighting service should look like - 5-10% cpu usage from any rgb lighting software is my definition of "hogging cpu cycles", or any idle background process for that matter. If you have any rgb components that don't use aura i'd also make sure they were up to date as there have been reported conflicts in the past. I mean...if you care about your case candy that is. You might not which is ok. Click to make it readable.. task manager was arranged Memory/CPU/Disk/network. lightingservice (32-bit) 0.1% cpu usage And i snipped this one from process lasso.. ignore that at the same time I decided to experiment with only letting it have that .03% from logical cores. On another note - Stumbled upon more confusion with features within Process Lasso like "ProBalance".. for some reason this feature was applying restraints to games with negative effects to performance. I can't say it's worth it to use this feature or not if things are running like they should. Rather than start fiddling with too many settings I found the best results by Clicking Options>Performance Mode>Designate High Performance processes and just adding game executables to the list, in conjunction with whatever cpu affinity I desire for a given program if not all 12 threads. Admittedly, I feel like PLasso was easier to use in previous versions but I still find it very useful. I wouldn't want to recommend it without offering experiences like that, otherwise sorry for the wall of text.

I always make sure to get the same make and exact model number but at least twice I've doubled my ram with kits on separate purchase dates without problems at all at xmp speeds. Once on a board with ddr3 1600mhz and then on this board with ddr4 3200mhz. I like this video because he uses wayyy too much thermal paste, and 4 different brands/models of ram and doesn't bother discharging any static electricity while he builds this PC rubs his fingers up and down the contact surfaces of the memory and cpu, and it works fine. I mean, doing everything the right way...ordering a 32GB kit will provide the least likely chance that you'll run into errors.. and something like too much paste could creep up on you down the road. But I'd say you're just as likely to not encounter problems as you are to run into them. Thankfully, last I checked Newegg has a return policy on memory.

even at 5ghz on the newest intel chips you'd likely be cpu limited in DCS up to1440p resolution without supersampling (SSAA in DCS settings) to near 4k resolutions which has it's own effects on performance using anything equal to or more powerful than a 1080Ti. In VR, even with a 2080Ti it's not possible to maintain 90fps if you want readable guages and text, although it's getting closer over at least the nevada map. So - 45fps for reprojection is the goal for now, and the 1080Ti likely offers a similar VR experience to the 2080Ti in DCS with less compromises in settings than say a 1070 or 1080. Still, VRAM usage can get up there in VR so having more than 8gb could be nice. ^^ 2070, vega 64, 1080 benchmarks @ 1440p. ^^ will at least give you an idea how the 2070 performs vs the higher tier and give you an idea of what might happen in DCS. The minimal gains in 2080Ti performance over 2080 performance @ 1440p are likely due to a cpu bottleneck, and that's an 8700k @ 5ghz. This mostly applies to dx11 titles which are for the most part largely single threaded. Vulkan and DX12 titles seem to put hardware to work.

Looking for advice on new build
Headwarp replied to Pricer27421's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The only real advice I can give here myself is my reasoning for buying a 2080Ti outside of VR, which is the same reasoning I have any time I buy a gpu. It will last me longer than any option out there currently. I would still be happily using my 980Ti if I hadn't opted for a 3440x1440 monitor and a VR headset. And I might have even forgone upgrading from my GTX 680 4gb to the 980Ti if I wasn't looking for high resolution performance when i went form 1080p to 3440x1440 because I wanted more FOV for this money sink of a hobby. I think I've finally boiled it down to future software purchases for at least half a decade. If my monitor purchase had been after the release of the 1080Ti, I'd be using that, and wouldn't have considered a 2080Ti, likely true even with my odyssey. I just have this general philosophy when it comes to GPU or CPU purchases, that the more you cut on these two components, the sooner you'll be asking yourself whether "it's worth it" to upgrade in the future. That being said, the top tier of either for this scenario, 9900k or 2080Ti are some of the most outrageously priced "mainstream" items I've seen to date. 9600k + 2080 or used 1080Ti for 3440x1440 is a lot less expensive and I'd imagine a capable gamer for several years to come. Z370 boards with a bios flash are also a money saving option as their prices have dropped significantly since the release of 8th gen cpus and you will want to check their support pages, but I'd imagine most are fully capable of supporting a 9th gen cpu with a bios update. Z390 boards may have additonal features like more m2 slots or different usb configurations, but are newer, and therefore will be receiving driver and bios updates further into the future. The 20 series launch so far leaves A LOT to be desired that I won't go into. But aside from buying a used 1080Ti, options for equal or better performance are soon going to be a 2080 or 2080Ti. What it boils down to is whether or not 20-30 extra frames per second is worth the difference in price to you. Me? I'm not a family man, which kind of allows for the investment even on a meager budget and my current build was purchased over the course of a year. All said and done - I personally am happy with my choice.. And I think in the long run you'll be happy with whichever you make for however long it lasts you. You can always reduce settings for higher FPS and in a lot of cases you'll hardly notice the difference. Don't overthink it and don't cause yourself any kind of financial disaster. If you got the dough, you can rule out any doubt by throwing more money at it. If you don't, the next best thing could save you $700-$1000 if in the US. -
This largely depends on what kind of resolution you're playing on or whether or not you're running VR. As well as your CPU frequencies.
-
IF "select CPU affinity" works under the same options you can specify which cores you want for dcs and can achieve the same results by unchecking all of the odd numbered cores, although, it may take a restart of DCS for Process Lasso to apply them. Might be some bugs to work out in the latest versions, as when the option "Single Threaded Performance mode" was in that list, things seemed a little simpler. Oddly enough, there are commands that could be added to the autoexec.cfg in the saved games/dcs world/config/ folder that could set a fixed cpu affinity when you run dcs.exe but it's a bit more complicated. You could find a thread about it likely if you dig hard enough. I'll have to disable aura myself and see if I notice any difference but the only real time I caught it hogging CPU cycles is when I was letting it run its default rainbow cycle after a fresh install. That immediately went away when I applied a single color pulsing pattern. I think the bigger issue with asus drivers and software is that sometimes conflicts occur when you simply try to update a driver or software rather than first uninstalling the old package.

I can give you an idea of 2080Ti performance but we'd have to guesstimate that in relation to 2080 performance.. give me a few I'll disable VR and give you some numbers. I'll leave the pagefile talk to BitMaster :) *edit* I honestly feel like a 2080 or 1080Ti would perform well @3440x1440. Took two flights, one in the SU-25T Georgian Oil War campaign as it tends to be loaded with ground units, and I was maintaining about 120 FPS, mind you this was along the coast. I also used the Hornet Instant action ACM 8v8 over caucasus and got no lower than 80fps as I flew close to the ground. My monitor has a 100hz refresh rate so the 2080Ti is ALMOST overkill for DCS until you jump into the hornet or PG map. One of the newer 3440x1440 120hz refresh rate monitors would be almost right on the sweet spot. 2080 might see fps down into the 60's with full shadows and extreme vis and high texture/water settings and msaa 2x is my guess. Which, looks pretty stunning on a 3440x1440 monitor. Forgot I gave my dad my trackIR unit so I was pretty much looking forward the entire time. -

3440x1440 actually makes good use of the 2080Ti in my experience in newer titles. Though I haven't tested my monitor in DCS because I'm now a VR sim junky. 2560x1440 on the other hand would run into cpu limitations in dx11 titles. It is one hefty pricetag though. -

The i7 9700k does not feature hyperthreading. It's 8 physical cores. I think you have the cpu confused with the i9 9900K. There's maybe bout $40 differenc between 8700k and 9700k in the US. Right now an i5 or i3 would fine but there's no telling when we'll see vulkan implementation and more cores, even logical ones should amount to more performance in vulkan and dx12 titles. I could be wrong, but my reading says that 8 physical cores (9700k) could still be faster than 6 physical cores + 6 logical cores (8700K). If I were shopping for a CPU right now I'd double check that one particular fact. 8th gen i7's are the last gen featuring hyperthreading currently. 2080 should be quite decent for 3440x1440 if you can't find a decently priced 1080Ti and aren't willing to shell out for a 2080Ti.. my 3440x1440 monitor does see 100% usage in quite a few modern titles though with my 2080ti. Only way you're saving money on a 1080Ti right now is if you buy used or the few reasonably priced listed "New" on ebay..but whether or not you get a warranty with that is up in the air depending on brand and original purchase date. Otherwise.. expect to pay around what you can get a 2080Ti for in that regard. Personally when I buy hardare I go big.. 8700k was the fastest cpu out when I bought it.. 980Ti when I bought it years ago and my 2080Ti now.. this rig will suit me for at LEAST 5-6 years without further need for upgrades, and get impressive performance increases as more titles adopt dx12 and vulkan... which DCS is slated for vulkan... but whether it's next year or 5 years from now that we'll see it nobody knows atm. -
Anyone running DCS on M.2 SSD?
Headwarp replied to Ryback's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah the disabling of sata ports 5+6 has to do with PCI-E lane usage from the chipset. When you start adding drives to actual PCI-E slots like those around your graphics card you have to remember those are part of the 16 lanes being shared with the GPU, where the m2 pci-e lanes are on the motherboard PCH, and shouldn't compete with your gpu at all. For gaming purposes however just be aware you won't see a difference really between sata and NVME. Personally I hope to change my setup to an aditional 500GB nvme drive and a 1 TB sata drive, which would leave me with 4 drives total, two m2 and twos sata III, one of which being my 4tb hdd for storage. YMMV and your preferences as well -
that's the price of some third party retailer and you could get a ROG STRIX 2080Ti for $1339 and it is a better card.. Ebay had a few reasonable prices on "new" 1080Ti's. I always make sure I click the "Sold by: Newegg" checkbox at the top of the list to avoid 3rd party sellers or what i call "Hardware scalpers". A) when it comes to computer hardware 3rd parties like to really jack up the price and create artificial demand by buying up all the stock at MRSP. B) some manufacturer's warranties only apply to the purchaser from an authorized retailer.. i.e. warranty is only for the 3rd party seller who probably bought it from newegg and relisted it on their marketplace. Asus ROG strix GPU's are ime the biggest target of scalpers so you have to keep an eye out for stock notifications from authorized vendors and be ready to click "ok" on the checkout page within 15 seconds but.. they can be had at msrp if you watch them like a hawk. EVGA FTW 3 2080Ti comes with a 1755 boost clock out of the box for that kind of money. Which should translate to about 2020-2070mhz when gaming if you aren't worried about how the RGB lighting syncs with say an Asus motherboard. For $1250 I was able to reach FTW 3 speeds with the EVGA XC Ultra and a bios update provided by evga by overclocking. Although YMMV i may have gotten lucky in the silicon lottery there. I'm only OC'ing because why turn down free performance even if it's just a little bit? THe FTW 3 should be able to OC even higher, with a 150% power target slider, lots of power phases and probably their highest selection of GPU wafers. But in all actuallity - +100mhz on the core clock really isn't going to be a huge difference in performance. So don't feel pressed to buy these top of the line models imo. Some companies come with a transferable warranty...look into it. 1080Ti on ebay for $800 new with a valid warranty might be ok. Used prices get less expensive, $550-$650 but still kind of over MRSP and again - might come without any kind of warranty. The only reason to buy a 1080Ti right now is to save a significant amount of money over the 20 series, and having the extra memory bandwidth that you would get over a 2080 which is about $800+ and slightly less memory bandwidth. If you're willing to shell out that kind of money for a gpu get a 2080Ti or whatever outperforms it if anything in 2019/2020 But.. I wouldn't expect to see 1080Ti's come back in stock at authorized retailers like newegg/best buy. They aren't being made anymore.

Have to +1 Process Lasso. It's options have changed recently between updates, and the way to do this now when is right click dcs.exe in process lasso main window, CPU Affinity -> Always -> Disable SMT, which will set the cpu affinity to 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 which are your physical cores on the 8700k for DCS everytime you launch it. This has helped with certain other titles in my library as well. I decided to go ahead and pay the $36 + tax for the program tonight. But the "free" version should be capable of this even after the trial period i think. This seems to have gotten rid of an issue with a steamVR loading screen I was having, if not recent steamvr beta updates. Also I tend to run a DCS repair after every update to be on the safe side. Forgot to do this today when i downloaded latest OB update and was still getting some kind of hitch on weapon use but not what I described above, but ran a repair and it seems to be resolved.

I might have lucked out for once in my life but still going strong on my XC Ultra from EVGA received 10/23 with +104 core and +607 on the memory (1214mhz effective), though I still like the thought of watercooling it to keep it running at it's highest boostclock, which is really only a difference of about 30mhz for the most part. 100% fan speed is pretty much 60C under full load which is where it begins to throttle from what I've paid attention to, although I've seen it get well up into the 80's when precision forgot my fan curve settings. I did update the BIOS per a link provided by EVGA for increased power target to 130%. Depending on ambient temp it settles at 2020-2050 boost clock and the highest I've seen is 2070. Good luck finding a 1080Ti in stock at an authorized retailer, at least in the U.S. And yep.. 3rd party sellers are selling them for a $1300+ and in some cases may be voiding the manufacturer warranty by having purchased from an authorized retailer to supply their "stock" depending on the brand. Although ebay currently has some listed at reasonable prices, but not many. Personally, there's no way one of these people would ever get my money. Period. I find it pretty sleazy. Used 1080Ti's still like $650 in some cases, some a bit lower perhaps. EVGA at least has a transferable warranty although you may have to ask for a copy of the original owner's invoice. A wingmate of mine from Australia went this route, which makes a lot of sense given the markup on tech even after currency conversion in the outback. But it should be noted that 1080Ti supply is dwindling. On another note...I had a 90FPS experience flying over nevada today in free flight when I turned WMR's motion reprojection off in the Odyssey at 1.8PD with no MSAA, unfortunately I dropped as low as 68-70fps once I hit low altitude around vegas and other areas saturated with buildings, which ultimately means that ASW, ASR, or motion reprojection is still going to offer the smoothest gameplay experience at 45fps in VR even on the map that offers the best performance. At least when looking for clarity in text and cockpit guages. Vulkan or a few generations of GPUs may change that. Whichever comes first. Looking at DX12 and Vulkan performance in some recent titles has me thinking we just might see a significant FPS boost on most modern hardware when ED feels confident the DCS is ready for the vulkan API. I really ought to see what this thing does on my monitor in DCS.

I did some playing around today and I think what you're experiencing is WMR's newish motion reprojection. With it enabled, my guages do shimmer, and most anti-aliasing effects are pretty much completely negated by the way motion reprojection is replacing the missed frames. In another sim I play it causes some weirdness when looking at a gunsight or at the propeller on the nose of aircraft, as well as other oddities. I commented out the feature in the mixed reality for steam VR settings file and applied 2x msaa at my current PD setting of 1.8 and my guages had smooth straight edges and the shimmer effect was minimalized. The problem there is I'm only pulling about 60fps on the ground doing the nevada tour instant action in the p-51D and the world outside of the cockpit is kind of like watching a slideshow when I look around in flight. Motion reprojection being the culprit would explain why you're experiencing this in all your VR simming titles. Personally, I'd rather deal with the shimmers as it really makes the overall experience feel much smoother, despite the added aliasing and other weirdness. AFAIK occulus and vive's ASW and ASR introduce some graphical anomalies of their own, although they do provide smoother gameplay when you can't maintain 90fps.
