  1. The Blackshark is a monster. Tons of firepower.. the helmet mounted sight is cool with trackIR, but really shines with VR. It's something else to just look at your target and start unloading cannon rounds on it or to quickly lock it up for a Vikhr. The KA-50 is pretty big on it's auto pilot and trim functions.

    Hornet vs Viper

Depends on the mood I'm in when I'm sitting down to fly a virtual pit. There was no question about buying either module. >.<
  3. I mean.. I see your point but at the same time.. even with AI popping flares the only times my heatseekers tend to miss AI are when I fire at a at a bad angle or too far away/too close. As long as I'm firing from a good angle and proper range they tend to hit regardless of flares.. AI doesn't maneuver hard enough to throw them off.
  4. Some devices may work without them, but imo it's best to just install drivers for any attached peripherals to ensure it's working as intended. Checking for drivers is generally one of the first things I do for any new peripheral I plug into my PC, whether it's a mouse, xbox contoller, or rudder pedals and hotas. Some devices run on generic drivers, or Microsoft will install the latest driver in win10. But In most cases, it shouldn't be a difficult task to install drivers for a joystick/hotas and it ensures you have access to all of their functionality.
  5. I'm afraid such requests come with a fee. :smilewink:
  6. You have the option to use or not use it just like anybody else. And even in the Hornet or Mirage for example you still have to manually turn on RWR and countermeasures after an auto-start. It doesn't do it for you. See now, a thread in the wishlist section asking for the ability to disable auto-start on MP servers, and then hosting your own server with the feature disabled, with no FC3 aircraft, and whatever rules you want makes sense and I'm behind that 100% even if that might mean your server doesn't get the traffic of others out there. Options are always good. But feeling like you're at a disadvantage because you choose not to use it when the option is there? I'm finding myself quite unsympathetic. The most popular servers all feature a mix of FC3 level and full fidelity pits.. and by the time I'm I'm combat, the experience between them aren't that far off from each other, as I'm pressing buttons on my hotas or mfd's, or my g13. Additional steps for dumping fuel tanks maybe, but if I'm going to do that I'm doing it before I'm in missile range. This includes the M2000C where I have manual started and only gone halfway through alignment to get a correct heading because it's faster than auto-start and I have a wingman who wants to get off the ground. I know folks who like to fly DCS that never post on forums that will use quick INS alignment and auto-start whenever available because they really just want to get up in the air and blow away ground and air targets. Can't fault them for it either. They have other things to do most of the day. I'm still going with mountain out of a molehill. Here's a pic of my pit.. tell me some more about how much I'm missing out on by bypassing the startup sequence. Heck I'm half tempted to order an F-16 UFC to put between my MFD's if I can convince myself it will also suit me for the Hornet. Trying to do so in VR might get confusing though. There is sooo much more to DCS than the startup sequence. We want to talk about advantages in MP? How about that Tomcat Jester AI telling you when targets are in front of you.. or "Bandit 2 O'clock High" or "he's on our 6". Guy has eagle vision and an owl's neck. >.< Should we make a human RIO a requirement?
  7. I'm going to chime in with thoughts of positivity. Razbam.. while I find it outclassed and due to a lack of radar/iff interrogation kind of hard to think of flying around in multiplayer, just cruising around in this thing, it's absolutely one of my favorites to do so in. The feel of the aircraft in normal flight is SUPERB.. and I can't speak for how accurate it is as I haven't and never will actually fly a real Harrier.. I'd love to see all of its features working correctly and to see the bugs with its systems squashed. I think the M2000C and AV8B-NA are awesome aircraft..deserving of immersive single player campaigns, and I've been hyped at the possibility of the AV8B Plus with its radar capability since your initial annoucement. I paid for the DCS World: AV8B-NA not long after launch, and I'm not stressed about it being perfect as I have plenty of other things to do.. I hope you guys will fix all that needs fixing, and revisit the idea of adding the Plus version to the table ASAP.. radar capability would make this thing extremely fun to fly in MP even if outclassed in air superiority. just cruising around in this virtual aircraft, I love the flight model. I can't help but enjoy how it responds to control inputs and just seems to glide through the air. It's not the fastest or even the most capable, but coordinated turns and trim functions just blow my mind compared to other aircraft in the sim.. she's a joy to just fly around in. And omg the way she responds to launching a maverick from a previously asymmetric load. Can't help but smile as I'm trimming to correct. Nineline and Bignewy, thanks for stepping in and trying to calm the masses... I hope you guys are able to work everything out and Razbam is able to put the effort necessary into bringing this aircraft up to snuff. It may not be something I'll fly in multiplayer for the forseeable future, but that doesn't mean it's not one of my favorites. Razbam, finish this bird up and give us the Plus model so you can move on to bring us new exciting projects like the F-15E. And all these angry people, it's because they love the module too and want to experience it to its full capability. Let it motivate you to exceed their expectations. Turn those frowns upside down.

    AV8B II Plus

I absolutely would love to see Razbam bring the Plus as a variant. I remember it being mentioned, and encourage them to bring it on after they get the NA version up to snuff. This aircraft with radar capability is just oh so sexy.
  9. I'm not sure where exactly you think ED is suddenly going to stop allowing people to manual start full fidelity pits just because people who aren't you use an auto-start feature that's been around as long as the sim has. You're worrying yourself over nothing. The FC-3 level aircraft existed before DCS World did in a title called "Lock On". Without it, we wouldn't have the DCS World we know today. Until MAC they haven't created other simplified pits.. and the original hope was to give people more of an entry level experience into flight simming, i.e. a larger DCS World playerbase. I'm hopeful MAC still achieves that despite deviating from the original plan of it being another DCS module. Frankly, if MAC provides an ACE Combat level single player experience with DCS level flight models and feel.. It's just going to be one more weapon in my aresenal of flight sims, not that there are a plethora to choose from in this day and age, but I have access to most if not all of them.. heck it's easier for me to list the DCS modules I don't have a license for than the ones I do and DCS isn't the only sim I fly. And I disagree, they shouldn't remove the auto-start feature. I enjoy my full fidelity pits, even if I choose to use a feature that saves me multiple clicks and at times craning my neck around and fumbling with my mouse going outside of the range of my VR view before I even get into the air..if I can even read the switch labels (tomcat *cough cough*) Some people built cockpits with every switch of their favorite full fidelity pit, some people are more focused on flight and combat with minimal money spent on peripherals but just enough to not have to reach for their mouse. Mountain out of a molehill man. Enemy Within 3.0 for the A-10C - every mission except the introductory mission so far has been a cold start. Have fun. ;)
  10. I made one post in response to people making multiple posts acting as if choosing to manual start every single time offers some sense of superiority over others who choose to just simply auto-start for whatever reason they choose. "Is it a sim or a game?" Both.. it's a game in the simulation genre. As far as I'm concerned, people are free to do what they want with whatever options Eagle Dynamics provides, or may provide in the future. It's good that there's an auto-start feature, as well as it's good that there's an option not to use it. Options = accessibility, and caters different perspectives and mindsets. As long as people aren't hacking game files for advantages over each other in engagement.. or even using lagswitches, the subject is a trivial matter. Simply put, it's just a PC game guys. ;) And while the game does attract RL combat pilots.. the majority of us are armchair pilots no matter whether we manual start or auto-start. Pardon me if when people toot their own horn, I feel like shoving a sock in the horn. I'm not "insulting people who don't do it like me." That's actually directed at those who seem to have the mindset that not manual starting makes someone less worthy of enjoying DCS World or a lesser virtual pilot. Quite the opposite of your insinuation. Someone else using auto-start where others prefer manual starting isn't taking anything away from either side,
  11. I switch out my warthog for my MSFFB2 when I jump into the Huey, Mi-8 or the Ka-50. There are no stick forces when holding the trim button, and it puts the new "center" of spring forces where you leave it when you let go. As far as the collective, I invert the Z axis of my warthog throttle and it does the job well enough for my liking. I've recently tried flying the Huey without FFB and it just felt so lackluster and more difficult compared to my experience with my MSFFB2. I really wish force feedback sticks could make a comeback.. or that Microsoft would just release a new plastic stick with way more buttons and update the software for it to work in win10.
  12. .. I think some of your heads would explode without something to argue about or speak negatively of. The option being there takes nothing away from the people who prefer to click all the switches, push all the buttons, and move their throttles from off to idle. But congratulations to those of you stroking your own egos because you refuse to ever hit Lwin+Home. Personally, I'll generally learn the startup sequence, but tend to use auto-start once I've done so because it takes less effort. I'm sitting on my butt in front of a computer entertaining myself like the rest of you. By the time I'm facing any of you in MP I'm using the same systems and hotas commands that everyone else is. OH.. sometimes I also use labels in SP. Sue me.
  13. I'm far more successful with a basket/drogue than I am the boom. But I think the boom operator in DCS is on the "special" side. From what I've seen on youtube, real life boom operators seem to move the boom where it needs to be in a more timely fashion. I will say, it helps a lot when the tanker is moving at a speed well above stall speed. With jets, at or slightly above 300 knots IAS seems to offer more in the way of pitch stability than 225-250 knots IAS where the slightest adjustment in speed/thrust makes your nose point up or down.
  14. Reading up on BFM tactics and playing against other humans will help you out.. but aside from that, finding some wingmates will likely go a long way, especially if they have some experience. AI is susceptable to BFM despite some of the UFO tendencies. Here's some diagrams to get you started on basic BFM maneuvering as a starting point. From there I'd find some youtube videos demonstrating them so you can apply it in practice and learn to utilize your energy/altitude. While modern aircraft pilots don't typically do yoyo's, most of these maneuvers can still be effective in a dogfight depending on the experience of the opposing pilot whether you're flying a jet or a prop plane. Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of what you fly, and what you're up against goes a long way too. Spotting the enemy in a flight sim can be pretty difficult on it's own.. so don't get discouraged when you get bounced.. learn from it. http://www.combataircraft.com/en/Tactics/Air-To-Air/
  15. Not to sew negativity but I hope you guys get it right this time and eventually implement it properly in the Gazelle. I attempted flying the Huey earlier with my Warthog.. was constantly fighting the controls. A lighter stick might have helped some but the function of force trim provided by the MSFFB2 and Belsimtek/ED's implementation is night and day. The function just makes everything feel more natural, not that I'm speaking from an actual pilots perspective.. I just know that my flying improved drastically in the Ka-50 and Huey after picking up my used MSFFB2. It's a crying shame FFB joysticks haven't made a comeback yet, if nothing else but for helo sims. Bit of a must have on my part.. if force trim with FFB works in the Kiowa, I'll definitely be buying it. If you guys need one for development or testing purposes and can't find one anywhere, I might be willing to break my unused MSFFB2 out of the box and part with the used one that's still going strong. I do wonder if perhaps ED might be willing to help in its implementation.
  16. I'd just install a new 2.5" SSD and move the DCS installation folder over to it. No need to reinstall. I don't recommend gaming off of an external drive. Adding a new drive shouldn't be difficult at all, other than the sata ports possibly being underneath your GPU. 2.5" drives range from $50-70 USD for 500GB, and $80-$140 USD for 1 TB. Converted to Aussie dollars and allowing for import costs, you'll pay slightly more but worth the investment imo. No need to replace the current drive or reinstall windows, and much less complicated than some of the things you're asking about.
  17. For high resolutions and VR this could be a pretty big bump in performance with the amount of cuda cores in the 3080 and 3090, the 3080 has twice the cuda cores of the 2080Ti. .. for anything less than 4k, or high amounts of supersampling, you're still likely going to run into a wall with a cpu bottleneck in dx11 titles.
  18. I wish you luck with your x56. Before Logitech bought Saitek I had a poor experience with my x52 pro. I can't speak for whether or not quality has improved since Logitech bought Saitek. The x56 is pretty much the same stick as the x55 with different colors, and the x55 was previously a Mad Catz/Saitek branded stick. That being said - I have friends whose x52 pro have lasted them near a decade now. So grain of salt. YMMV. Functionality wise - the x56 a very capable stick with all kinds of options for changing how buttons and axes function, although I'll set you up to where most of your control input settings will be done in-game. I'm going to send you a PM so we can arrange some stick time. :)
  19. With an x56 he could cover all the controls he needs to fly an FC-3 aircraft, given that the control menu allows for modifiers that you can add as many as you want of, that occupy one button and give every other button on the HOTAS added functions. FC-3 has the strongest aircraft in the game..and while "simplified" requires more controller setup than most of the full fidelity pits.. and while the control menu can seem intimidating, once you understand which functions are vital enough to be bound to your HOTAS you'll be out flying and shooting things down in no time and then it just boils down to developing muscle memory. So new guy, if you want some help setting up FC3 aircraft which is arguably the best bang for the buck, containing the strongest fighters DCS has to offer.. feel free to PM me to help you overcome the initial wow factor at the amount of available controls, of which, you'll likely fill your hotas out with like a 3rd of them and have no problem controlling them without a mouse or keyboard.
  20. If ED can implement a way for the switch to go to center regardless of whether it was up or down if you do something that would disable auto-pilot while still allowing for the switch to operate as a 3 position switch otherwise, I think that'd be preferable for me. Only time I ever brought out TARGET prior to this was for that other sim with a jet of similar fashion, and if anything makes me appreciate that DCS has it's own modifiers and I haven't reached the limit yet on controllers that work with it at once. That and for the most part ED and 3rd party devs eventually get things working for all the Hog owners in the long run. :)
  21. Sorry for necro'ing a thread back from October, but I feel like this thread could be merged https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=257245 and https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=256167 I know the ED team is catching up after their holiday break, and that the Viper is still a WIP, I've had a bit of a break from DCS myself for a bit and coming back to check out the F-16 - I had some thoughts to share Pitch A/P still not functioning as a 3 position switch while in the air. On the ground - it doesn't seem which way I try to bind the 3 pos switch - either ATT Hold or Alt hold or the "Down" "Up" controls - it functions as a three position switch. While in flight however - it behaves as the binding describes, not as a 3 position switch. As described by posters above I'm going to add that some of the naming schemes for controls are kind of confusing. Two position switches seem to only allow for a toggle function and should be labeled as such... CAT I/CAT III switch for example, or the Laser Arm. In the menus they are labeled CatI/CatIII - which to me says it works as a two position switch. But it's a toggle. This imo should be labeled "Stores Config Toggle", and hopefully we'll see a "Stores Config CAT I/CAT III" that works as a two position switch in the future, as well as other 2 pos switches like Laser Arm. If my memory serves me, the Hornet has some confusing control binding titles like this as well not that I can recall them off the top of my head. While I'm all for functionality for pit builders and WH and Virpil or Saitek users (if they even use positional switches) - ideally some switches are more important than others and would be nice to see asap. Like I have almost no reason to touch the anti-skid/brake switch when I'm in the air, or actually in combat. The Master Arm, Laser Arm, Stores Config and Auto-pilot switches, however, are all heavily used in flight, some of them pretty vital when combat situations occur. I'm sure Eagle Dynamics will address this eventually, and it's not my intention to sound like I'm demanding anything or panicing. But I am saying - 2 position and 3 position functionality for controls in flight have become a nice luxury to have in DCS, which ultimately the sim is a reason for many of us purchasing the Hog in the first place. Perhaps I should mention it in the wishlist thread instead, but while a minor issue, it would be nice to see a quick fix addressing the function and labeling of control bindings that are more vital to flight, that could shave an extra second or few in preparation for battle. I personally don't really mess with LUA files and don't use Target, so hope to see an update that addresses this. Otherwise, I'm enjoying this bird.
  22. Which M2 socket did you use for your 970 EVO Plus? The one above the video card should be the primary slot, it will disable sata port 1 if set to SATA mode but won't disable anything if in PCI-E mode, if you used the slot closer to the front of the case, it will disable sata ports 5 and 6 to operate in PCI-E mode. If you used the bottom slot, just make sure the SSD you're trying to add is in port 1-4 and bare in mind that using this slot, two of your sata ports become disabled. If you can't tell which ports are what, there should be a diagram in the user manual, which you can download from Asus support.
  23. Definitely loving the spyglass zoom, and the fact that zoom happens quickly in VR
