  1. Sorry for necro'ing a thread back from October, but I feel like this thread could be merged https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=257245 and https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=256167 I know the ED team is catching up after their holiday break, and that the Viper is still a WIP, I've had a bit of a break from DCS myself for a bit and coming back to check out the F-16 - I had some thoughts to share Pitch A/P still not functioning as a 3 position switch while in the air. On the ground - it doesn't seem which way I try to bind the 3 pos switch - either ATT Hold or Alt hold or the "Down" "Up" controls - it functions as a three position switch. While in flight however - it behaves as the binding describes, not as a 3 position switch. As described by posters above I'm going to add that some of the naming schemes for controls are kind of confusing. Two position switches seem to only allow for a toggle function and should be labeled as such... CAT I/CAT III switch for example, or the Laser Arm. In the menus they are labeled CatI/CatIII - which to me says it works as a two position switch. But it's a toggle. This imo should be labeled "Stores Config Toggle", and hopefully we'll see a "Stores Config CAT I/CAT III" that works as a two position switch in the future, as well as other 2 pos switches like Laser Arm. If my memory serves me, the Hornet has some confusing control binding titles like this as well not that I can recall them off the top of my head. While I'm all for functionality for pit builders and WH and Virpil or Saitek users (if they even use positional switches) - ideally some switches are more important than others and would be nice to see asap. Like I have almost no reason to touch the anti-skid/brake switch when I'm in the air, or actually in combat. The Master Arm, Laser Arm, Stores Config and Auto-pilot switches, however, are all heavily used in flight, some of them pretty vital when combat situations occur. I'm sure Eagle Dynamics will address this eventually, and it's not my intention to sound like I'm demanding anything or panicing. But I am saying - 2 position and 3 position functionality for controls in flight have become a nice luxury to have in DCS, which ultimately the sim is a reason for many of us purchasing the Hog in the first place. Perhaps I should mention it in the wishlist thread instead, but while a minor issue, it would be nice to see a quick fix addressing the function and labeling of control bindings that are more vital to flight, that could shave an extra second or few in preparation for battle. I personally don't really mess with LUA files and don't use Target, so hope to see an update that addresses this. Otherwise, I'm enjoying this bird.
  2. Glad we were able to help. ;)
  3. Which M2 socket did you use for your 970 EVO Plus? The one above the video card should be the primary slot, it will disable sata port 1 if set to SATA mode but won't disable anything if in PCI-E mode, if you used the slot closer to the front of the case, it will disable sata ports 5 and 6 to operate in PCI-E mode. If you used the bottom slot, just make sure the SSD you're trying to add is in port 1-4 and bare in mind that using this slot, two of your sata ports become disabled. If you can't tell which ports are what, there should be a diagram in the user manual, which you can download from Asus support.
  4. Definitely loving the spyglass zoom, and the fact that zoom happens quickly in VR
  5. There's another sim that I will never play that allows for this for people to think a joystick is too much to pay for. Not interested in seeing that happen to DCS.
  6. i have an obutto rev and frankly if I ever want to build a sim racing pit I'd probably buy a second much cheaper setup than the obutto rather than try to fuss with switching out between flight and driving. I mean, if you're planning to use your racing pedals as rudder pedals, I could see doing both but ultimately, my rudder pedals are hard mounted to the obutto footplate. Using VR, having a separate pit for both setups wouldn't be that hard to switch between. But my obutto pit has pretty much become my general purpose desk while at the PC, and stays setup for flight aside from my center mounted stick which I detach and reattach as necessary. I love my obutto, and it takes up less space than a desk. But switching between racing/flight for me would be more difficult unless I sacrificed my MFG Crosswinds in favor of racing pedals. Didn't really see other pits that suited a flight setup with as much customization capability as the obutto... but I've seen pits that would easily suit a wheel and racing pedals for a third of the price.
  7. I personally prefer the Hornet/Viper as opposed The Tomcat and it's mostly because they're single seaters with all kinds of toys to play with that don't require an AI RIO or a second player. But.. as far as being able to fly all three in the sim yeah.. they took and keep taking my moneyz, and the Tomcat offers a lot of what it brings to the plate now as opposed to waiting for the Bug and Viper to finish. The bug is in a pretty yummy place for a2a right now and a fair bit of ground capability with HARM JSOW and unguided bombs. Or laser guided bombs/mavs if you have a jtac or a friend lasing for you. Viper for me is a must have. But the Bug is my daily driver likely until the F-16 has at least most of it's a2a capability.
  8. I personally love the mini-updates and wag's mention about how they've been trying to be open and honest about where they are with updates.. Wags, or anybody else on the team that reads this - I for one am loving the information that's been coming to us over the last mentioned two years. It certainly gives a a little perspective about why certain features might take longer than expected. In the long run.. it's generally worth the wait. Definitely looking forward to the F-16. Will be nice to see how the sim interprets the differences between it and the bug, despite their similar capacity for destructive purposes.
  9. In steamVR settings, on the "Video resolution" page, whats your resolution per eye? I'm personally getting much higher framerates since the VR optimizations and when I lowered my PD to 1.0 I'm getting 90fps over Caucasus for the most part with no shadows and msaa@2x Run a repair.. reinstall directx all that. Ensure chipset drivers are up to date and the like, and make sure "prefer maximum performance" is set in NV Control panel. Also make sure that beefy GPU has some aggressive fan curves they run better when they're cooler.
  10. Looking closer my boatswitch bindings and pinky switch bindings for the a-10C are highlighted as orange with two separate entries and I misinterpreted the OP i think. Everything seems to be working right when I fly the A-10C though, and my coolie switch works as intended. I think I might have had to bind coolie hat UP function a few patches ago, but my bindings haven't changed and everything seems to be working for me. Had no issues launching mavericks or slewing the maverick camera. Would double check axis bindings on that one and make sure there's nothing else bound to TDC slew. China hat forward long sets sensors to spi. TMS UP sets TGP or hud cue to spi depending on what is SOI, china hat aft recenters all sensors. I'd imagine this will get noticed and fixed with the next update. Uploading screenshot just to point out what the OP was mentioning, but on my end hasn't caused any issues when put to use. Like I said I fixed some bindings a few patches ago, basically my first flyouts in the A-10C after my latest windows reinstall (i'm thinking its when I bought Enemy Within 3.0 not long after it came out) but haven't had to change anything since. The default config for the A-10C always had a leftctrl modifier assigned to trim, with the trim switch assigned to view from the days before everybody was using TrackIR, and generally I just "cleared" those bindings and set the trim hat to trim everytime I reinstalled the sim and didn't back up my controls. Haven't run into any weirdness actually flying any of the modules I've flown tonight, and didn't have to change my bindings for the latest update although this is the first time I'm noticing the orange double entries as pictured in the screenshot above. I don't remember having to rebind my boatswitch.. vague memory of having to fix the coolie hat. But not due to the most recent update. I've downloaded at least 3 patches since the last time I bound my controls in the A-10C. The orange duplicate entries seem new though.
  11. did you try running "dcs_updater.exe repair" from cmd prompt or using the start menu shortcut?
  12. With these settings in my Odyssey I'm actually getting 90 fps over Caucasus instant action missions, TF-51 over Tiblisi, Harrier weapons practice, Hornet weapons practice. Can't really be bothered to install stable release, but these framerates were impossible to achieve before the VR optimizations. It's a compromise to lower my pixel density and fly without shadows.. but at the same time it's kind of like "OMG 90 FPS VR in Dcs World".. finally all this expensive hardware paid off lol raising PD to even 1.2 i get lows in the 70's.. 1.5PD im seeing around 60-75 fps. I like the higher pixel density but to be frank motion reprojection makes aircraft flying around me look weird sometimes.. so I think Im going to stick with 1.0 even though it's not quite as sharp a picture as higher pixel density levels. *Edit- now I'm sitting here wondering if we're also going to see a nice performance bump from Vulkan whenever that gets here. Might be able to get away with higher pixel density values with my setup or a higher res headset. *edit* - just did a campaign mission for the A-10C, which I won't name the campaign or mission as not to spoil anything but flying over areas with a nice amount of units on the ground tanked my framerate even at the settings described above.. so going back to motion reprojection and higher pixel density for now.
  13. um, down or better described as aft on the trim switch = nose up.. that's how it works irl. It's even labeled that way on the TM Warthog stick. Can't speak on everything else. Downloading the patch now to see if I'm running into any problems in the hog. Everything is all and well for me in the hog with the patch. Is the input folder you're deleting in C:\users\xxxxx\saved games\dcs\config ?
  14. with my odyssey after so many times centering the headset I have to clear the environment data in the settings tab. Can't speak for the Rift S but for WMR users you might have to do this once in a blue moon.
  15. all it takes is one piece of dust or hair or dustball making contact in the right spots and *poof*.. which is still probably covered under warranty but in most cases, all it should take is replacing the psu, unless a bad connection inside the rig was the culprit.. in which case you get melted molex like another poster linked regarding his bad cd drive.
  16. That's the AVX offset kicking in whenever a program is utilizing multiple cores. Turn that off imo. Just set the offset to 0 or equal to your desired multiplier. Run stress tests and check your temps throughout to ensure you're good under full load.
  17. this is highly dependent on what display type and resolution you want to use as well as what GPU you have. if you're gpu limited a faster cpu probably won't give you gains. If you're cpu limited a faster CPU will give you a performance bump up until the point you're GPU limited. telling us your monitor resolution, or what vr headset you might be using, as well as what GPU you intend to use or currently are using would give more to work with.. but you can also download some hardware monitoring software and see what your bottlenecks are. Specifically by looking at cpu usage per core, if any of those are pegging at 99% while you fly a cpu upgrade will get you some gains, if your gpu is at 99% usage at all times, gpu upgrade will net you gains, which, anything 1080Ti/2080 or better is likely going to run into cpu limitations below 4k resolution even with the fastest processors out at the moment. Most important question is - are you happy with your performance now? I'd guess not since you're asking, but it's not as simple as comparing one component of your pc to everyone else. Chasing performance has a few more variables than that. Need more details, but with a little googling on what to look for with cpu/gpu bottlenecks and how to find them you could pretty easily determine what works best for you on your own. :)
  18. I think he'd want the water cooling if he were pushing that lol.
  19. This depends on whether your license for Windows 10 is OEM or Retail. OEM is linked to one computer. Retail, you can take with you to your new build but can only be activated on one PC at a time..i.e. if you activate it on a new build it will be deactivated for your old build. There are probably security measures in place to keep you from just activating it every time you sit down between two different computers.. so best to buy another license if you need to run two machines. You can run command prompt and type "slmgr -dli" and press enter.. a window will pop up in windows stating either Retail or OEM. Just to share personal experience - I upgraded my copy of win7 pro to win10 pro when the free upgrade was offered. My license for win10 is retail, I had no issue activating windows 10 when I upgraded from my i5 2500k to my 8700K beyond having to remember my microsoft account details. I doubt you'll even have to download any new drivers or reinstall windows if all you're swapping out is your cpu and everything's up to date already. might have to "activate' again but if its a retail copy there should be no issue with that. I think it unlikely, as only one component of your build is changing. If all else fails, call microsoft and see if the customer service rep can see you just made a simple component change. Barring that, let the dent in your wallet be a lesson to you about ensuring the license key you buy for Win10 is retail. If you do go with a new mobo yeah just plan on reinstalling windows lol.. i'd also download bare minimum sata/chipset/network drivers to a usb thumb drive or SSD/harddrive that isn't what you plan on using for your OS install, so you have no issues getting on the internet and downloading the rest.
  20. my 8700k held 4.7Ghz with like 1.225 or 1.25vcore, held 4.9Ghz with 1.275vCore. I had to bump it to 1.35or maybe 1.36 to get a stable 5ghz but my AIO seems to be holding up, have not delidded. I don't think i could get it stable above 5ghz, and frankly I average like 80-85C when left under full load for long periods of time with stress testing software, and my thermostat is janky so my A/C has like three settings, on, on but still too hot inside, or off. I.E. I have blankets strategically stashed because it gets cold in here. Might as well be simming in a snuggie. You're pretty much guaranteed to be able to run all cores at 4.7ghz with that thing. There are likely guides out there to walk you through it.. load line calibration and all.
  21. your 2080Ti's default fan speeds will let it get pretty hot. I set my 2080Ti's fans to spin up to 100% by 45C, 70% by 35 or 40C.. not sure how to set up a custom fan curve in MSI Afterburner, but I have mine set through EVGA Precision. SOMETIMES, after a driver update or something my custom curves get deleted and I'm not getting the performance i'm used to. Also in nvidia control panel make sure your profile for dcs.exe is set to prefer max performance not optimal. Ultimately though, most of your time spent even with my rig @ 5.0ghz and a 2080Ti, I don't exceed 45fps using 1.5Pixel density and 2x MSAA. but I also don't dip below 45fps. That's motion reprojection, and as long as it's on you won't see high gpu usage, and you may have some artifacting but gameplay should be smooth. I will say, I have the reprojection indicators turned on in my settings file to for WMR for steam, and even with my 8700k @ 5.0ghz paired with my overclocked 2080Ti, I still get the light blue CPU limitation box, right next to the dark blue gpu limitation box using the motion reprojection status indicator. Which tells me, the 2080Ti could benefit from even faster cpu's than we have available below a certain resolution. But it's pretty close, as raising the resolution to be completely gpu limited with my Odyssey offers a lower framerate than I'm getting with current settings. If for some reason I'm not at least at 45fps or very close to it when flying low to the ground my fan curves are the first thing I check and generally the culprit, if not that it's the nv control panel setting for power management, otherwise I'd check and make sure C: drive and whatever drive DCS is on aren't completely full personally. 100% fan speed on my gpu keeps the card at about 45-50C where using default fan curves I've seen the thing hit 80-88C, at which point it is likely throttling' One other thing to check is SteamVR's video resolution. By default, it will try to guess how high the rendered resolution should be based on your hardware, it's generally too high for DCS or other sims that use VR. Under the video tab in SteamVR settings, I recommend ensuring the "manual" box is checked and set custom resolution to 100% (native) and using DCS's in game pixel density setting to about 1.5 (or 150%), or whatever lets you maintain a minimum of 45fps. For other VR titles you may access through steam, you can use the dropdown box and slider within the Applications tab to individually set different resolutions for specific titles that might not have their own setting built into their game. If it's none of these, do try a dcs repair. Hopefully we see a nice increase whenever ED gets around to fixing the VR optimization that they weren't able to implement in the 06/06 patch. Til then 45fps with motion reprojection on auto in the wmr for steam settings file is about the best I'm able to get atm. Still some slight "shimmers" but less than msaa off with higher pixel density settings.
  22. Can't really justify the pricetag myself either. I mean... I'd probably use it every time I was in one of the dcs aircraft that use this grip style. But at the pricepoint it's not a priority. I'm with another poster.. if they made an improved gimbal system, sold it with the grip for like $280 i'd be into it.
  23. With Win10 you can factory reset windows at any point using the advanced shutdown command. Hold Shift while clicking "restart" and you get a few options to choose from. You can restore the computer to a fresh install windows and wipe all your drives or choose to keep a few things.. i usually back up things I want to keep on my 4TB HDD before hand, windows is installed on a 250GB nvme drive and most games I play are on my two additional ssd drives. Check your motherboard manufacturer's website for driver updates like once a month as the motherboard is made of many different components that each have their own driver control set, also doesn't hurt to force windows update to check for new updates from time to time. For any given peripheral you have, it may have its own driver package as well, provided by manufacturer. If you're going to do a factory reset of windows, I'd advise downloading the latest version of all drivers for your system and peripherals and backing them up somewhere first just in case win10 generic drivers don't play nice for the initial install. The chipset, sata, and network drivers at the very least, so your system at least works well enough to download any other drivers after you're up and running.
  24. IMO just use JSGME or OVGME and disable/enable mods as you will. Either creates a backup of the original install.
