Thanks guys. S.E. Bulba replied on the Russian forums as well, so now I'm trying to read what the Russkies are saying in other forums to try and understand the vhikr system as well as I can. Pretty interesting. EDIT: Yeah, that's about the same I can find after searching Russian forums all day. Thanks to all who gave info. At least I know what info has been released now. Much clearer. Not sure about adding later missiles to the same cone. Couldn't find anything on that. For one, the cone would have shrunk somewhat after a few seconds, so less chance of capturing another missile in the cone. Though I guess it would still be possible depending on how accurate the Shkval is at launching missiles into it. I guess any other targets would have to be at about the same range as the original target. Relock?

Well, I asked the question in the Russian forums, so maybe someone in there can give a precise answer on exactly how this works. That's where all the producers seem to hang out. Years ago, we were told it bounced around a shrinking cone. All I can get now off the internet is something about a grid above the target. And long ago posts that still think the old way. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=245129 If anyone's interested.

Hmm, I remember reading LONG ago it was a laser cone, and that the Vikhr was shot into it ( hence why we have to have to have the movable adapter on the pylon ). Actually, there is someone else on the forum talking about a "cone" years ago, but maybe we were wrong. Now, the only thing I can find is something about a laser grid above the target. I'll have to consult the guru's in the Russian forums. Very interested in exactly how this works. I'm sure someone there can quote a Russian book on it. Yeah, but to me, that's just that old "gamma trick" people use in FPS games, where you turn up your gamma, until night becomes day. In real life, you turn up the contrast on a black screen, you just get a brighter black screen. I'm sure you can get the camera to suck in a little more light, but I wouldn't think that much. And to me, it's more about being "modern technology". I'm not into old stuff. Surely, if they can put a President-S on this heli, which seems to be from a prototype even further along than the Ka-50sh, surely they can put a decent Gen III FLIR on it.

I always thought it was shot into a laser cone that tightened as it approached the target. But now I can't find that information anymore. I've seen something about a laser grid, but it is very vague. Any experts? Thanks! Я всегда думал, что это выстрел в лазерный конус, который сжимается по мере приближения к цели. Но теперь я не могу найти эту информацию. Я видел что-то о лазерной решетке, но это очень расплывчато. Эксперты есть?
-
Hmm, I thought these were on Ka-50sh. Just looked at photos and they aren't. So, obviously, it is on a prototype beyond that. And on Ka-52, of course.

Didn't we use those in the Vietnam War? Or was is WW2? :)

Lol, unless you know how to change the "Gamma Curve of the Universe", I question your reality. Also I question the reality of how the Vikhr "laser cone" is being simulated in game. Just thinking about it, you shouldn't be able to launch a stream of missiles and keep control of them. Every time you launched, the cone would have to reset to catch the last launched missile, and you would lose the others. The way they are doing it "in game", it looks like it's all just terminal laser point reflection, with the missile just set to spin around a little to make it look realistic. Also, you guys claim this chopper was "OH SO REALISTIC" before, can you show me a pic of it carrying Kh-25MLs? Oh wait! They're on the Ka-52. Imagine that. x
-
LOL! Achtung, Rotor! Guess some people needed that.
-
Lol, personally, I'm beginning to think you jet jockeys are just TERRIFIED of a capable attack chopper. You can always ban it on your servers if it bothers you so. But remember, 90% of us fly offline. As for FLIR, it's 2019, for God's Sake! I could buy a hand held FLIR and some duct tape online, and tape the stupid thing to the day camera if I had to. At least here in America, ANYBODY can buy Gen III / IV FLIR. It's not a state secret. And don't make me lean out the door with that Igla. I will! x

Gotta love the zip ties! Already has glass cockpit, same as Ka-52. One wonders what secret Ka-50x sits in a hanger somewhere, ready to be mass produced, as a new, glorious Russia rises from the ashes.
-
Well, and there you again have the very stretched opinion on either side of what exactly a "production run" is. Personally, I don't think it ever left prototype mode, and a few were punched out only because of contract obligations. Ka-52 was the final product, IMO. So, to me, if the Ka-52 has it, then at some point, some prototype Ka-50 probably had it. But really, it's a moot point, as someone above said. Neither side is going to agree with the other. :) And others are somewhere in between. Chizh has pretty much said this is going to be "their" version of the Ka-50, hence the ED. And I doubt if this reasoning will ever be applied to any other module, unless it falls in a very gray area as well. Which is why I'm comfortable asking for FLIR, because we KNOW it was on at least one of the prototypes. Just your standard Gen III FLIR. Probably RWR as well. Third pylon? Most likely. Radar? Well, that's probably stretching it. Though it is on the Ka-52. And of course, this is not only because some of us want a Russian helicopter that can actually compete with all the others (especially because of the difficulties of being single pilot), you could also say it's to balance out the sides more evenly.

THANK YOU!!! :drunk:  Can hardly wait to try it!

Agree, but those jets aren't flying 5 feet above the ground, trying to keep cover with the treeline, or ruined buildings, and watching frantically for enemy ground troops. :) However, I think cup holder should definitely be added to the list of items players want! That and MLP skins!
-
Lol, no, quite agree. Clicking causes a slight jolt upwards. At least on my machine. And in combat, when your trying to get a lock, that can really screw you up. To get a smooth trim, I always hold trimmer down, adjust to where I want, stabilize, then let up on the button.
-
Pretty sure that's what they did with the Ka-50, till they began to understand that it just wouldn't work with one pilot. So they popped an extra seat onto it it, and the Ka-52 was born! Here's that post I was looking for from S.E. Bulba. A quick, concise history of the Ka-50 in about 5 points. Says it all. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3971224&postcount=48 x

Maybe it's no longer an object?
-
Ughh. So MUCH needs to be corrected in this sim. We don't need more planes, we need fixes and corrections to the General World.
-
Yeah, it seems there were many more prototypes beyond the one simulated here. That, and the Russians appear to have some fondness of duct tape and zip ties. :D I believe that is a version of the Ka-50sh, though I can't prove that beyond a doubt. And yeah, glass cockpits hopefully have backup analogue instruments as well. Otherwise, PROBLEM!
-
Sorry, that's already been argued out in both the Russian and English forums, so don't want to do it again. Yeah, Ka-50 I've never seen a third pylon on, point is, it's on the final Ka-52 model. Plus, a lot of people want it (including me!) :p Again, an old debate already done. You should really read up on this thread in the Russia forums, https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=242082 Just bring up the whole thread in Yandex Translate where it says "site". and of course, all the posts in the English forums to catch up to the current debate. In the Russian forums, S.E. Bulba quotes many books and articles, and has some insights into the Ka's history which I found very interesting. Fri13 seems very knowledgeable on the subject here in the English as well. Many good arguments on both sides. What really got me though was S.E Bulba's last post here on the English side, where you can clearly see that the Ka-50 was eventually just totally scrapped, in favor of the Ka-52. x
-
Lol, yeah, but read what I said above about the history. The Ka-50 was just eventually dumped, a second seat was added, and they came out with the Ka-52. The Ka-52 is really just the final Ka-50 with a second seat. The thing were flying is just an early prototype that was never put into production. Why I consider it just a fantasy copter. The REAL heli, is the Ka-52. That's the final product. And it has 6 hardpoints on it's wings. Which is why my side wants to get the FLIR and RWR, since it's in the Ka-52. If you really want to read some good info, read Fri13's post here in the English forum, and S.E. Bulba in the Russian forums. Yandex Translate works well ( I can't read Russian ).
-
Ahh, yeah, I think that's the ones I saw reported as well. I remember it was one of the panels.
-
Actually, in the Russian forums, Chizh said there will be a third pylon for the Iglas. I think I quoted him somewhere back in my other posts.
-
Yeah, I hear that, but also I have been told that the cone actually resets whenever you fire a new missile (which makes sense! The cone has to catch it.), and that would lose your other missile. I remember this was discussed a few days back in these threads. There seem to be some things "in game" that are not quite reality. Like there is no REAL contrast simulation of the EO. So, I will have to try study what is exactly happening "in game" compared to what happens "in reality". Also, turning up the brightness till you can dimly see in the dark is kind of a scam / cheat. Plenty of people do this in FPS games to simulate night vision by just upping their gamma until night becomes day. :) This, of course, doesn't happen in reality. Really want them to bring the systems on this chopper much closer to reality.
