  1. Apologies if this has already been covered, I did try search but nothing came up, even though I dimly recall something being said about it. I have been out of the DCS loop since my second 2080TI failed before Easter and I just got it back. Since I am on release version, I only had the F14 about a week before the card blew up and was just learning how to cold start it with Jester assisting. Of course, now I have a new card, hopefully modified not to blow up again, I have pretty much forgotten how to start it. I use VR exclusively and cannot read any placard, caution light (except those on the UFC) or labels in the cockpit as everything appears to be worn out or dirty. This makes learning to fly the beast very difficult. Even VR zoom appears not to be working at the moment. I had forgotten how worn the cockpit was compared to the Hornet. If it was a club C172 I would have written it up as a flight safety issue. In the UK, all placards should be clearly legible. Maybe this is not the case in the military. During the waiting for release, someone mentioned that different cockpits were going to be available, some more worn than others. Is this still a fact? Not knocking Cobra, his artistry is phenomenal, but for VR users, just a tad overdone, a form over function thing. I have a Reverb on order, but I doubt even Reverb will be able to make the cockpit readable.
  2. Only things I would like to see corrected are maybe switch noises toned down a bit, certainly for someone who likes to taxy with canopy raised, there definitely needs to be a big volume adjustment for engine noise when the canopy closes, but the real biggie for me is the loud hum when Jester keys his Mic. Those of us using transducers in our seat like buttkicker ect, get shaken out of the seat every time Jester opens his mouth. I have to turn the amp off when doing assisted starts as this is completely immersion breaking.
  3. I remember way back when, I sat in the Hog in VR, for the very first time and reaching out to the panel in wonderment. Of course, it wasn't there. I placed my monitor on the desk where the canopy bow should be and spawned in stood up with hands on canopy bow and then settled down into the seat. Little things that help immersion..
  4. New Email re order number two. "Your order is being prepared and will ship shortly". HP site says they are awaiting stock. Thank Christ for that. Typical of my luck, I always have to work harder than the next guy to get the same result. I'd much rather be lucky than good, but that's the hand I have been dealt. It's character building.... Just need the first order pre approval lifted so I can get access to my cash again. Since nothing changed, I'm guessing someone hit the wrong button at HP when processing the first order.
  5. So you received the second Email validating your order, not just the first order confirmation? I phoned my bank to make sure that the payment was approved for the second order. They said that the first order payment was approved and money has gone out of my account. :noexpression: They then said that my second order was also approved and money has been taken from my account for that one also. All the sale, billing and delivery addresses are the same, so what the hell are they playing at? It's not like I ordered one from the UK for an address in Nigeria. I hope they are as fast at un-reserving the cash in my account as they are at reserving it. My teeth are gnashing at the thought of 600 quid in my account ringfenced for HP and receiving nothing in return.
  6. I just reordered it. It may be that I used a debit card that I don't normally use for such things, but the money I saved for Reverb happens to be in that account. If they tried to debit the card and it flagged up as unusual behaviour it might not have cleared. Typical of the sort of luck I get.
  7. Just got an email from HP UK. They cancelled my order. They reckon something went wrong when they were processing the order. This is another Oculus type debacle, I can see it coming. I reckon it's because I am not a business customer and demand is high.
  8. Thanks Gizzy. I have been checking the HP UK store daily, last time was 05:30 this morning, and just had the "notify me" button. I saw your post and hot footed it over there and sure enough.... shop now. One Reverb headset is winging its way to me between the 6th and 14th June. Downside so far as DCS is concerned is I fly out to Greece on the 17th....If it arrives close to the end of the expected date, I will probably leave it in its box until I return home, so I have something to look forward to when flying home. Upside is I have a week at home after I return to set it all up. Yippee. Since I just got my 2080TI back from a nightmarish long Asus RMA last night, maybe this is all a good omen and the third card will be the charm. Been without DCS since before Easter. It seems longer.
  9. Pro has wipe clean, faux leather face pad, a standard cable and a shorter cable for backpack PC use. It also has a commercial grade warranty, presumably some type of expedited RMA process.
  10. Exactly. With Rift my IPD was 63.5 mm. Whether that was my true IPD or not, it gave me the best calibration picture with the green cross. And that is what counts.
  11. The Reverb Pro has been put up on the HP UK website. It is not yet available though. This time last week it was not even on the site, so things are moving, albeit slowly. Reverb is the one for me, although I am at this moment, in no particular rush. When I get my GPU back this may change.
  12. It is a little disappointing, however it is noted that the first release is the business set, and the consumer version is coming later. I wonder if this is to allow them a little more time for tweaking the displays more towards gaming? I hope so. I am somewhat impulsive and apt to jump onto something at a moments notice, however in regard to the arstechnica review, I think I will hang back and watch the reviews. I got burned by being the first to review the 2080TI and got not one but two of the problematic early batch for my trouble. Not this time, no sirree Bob.
  13. Ah. I see I am labouring under a misapprehension. I said I was pissed in deference to our US cousins. To phrase it correctly in Her Majesty's language. I'm extremely pissed orf. Aka peeved, miffed, narked or plain old vexed.
  14. Anybody had to RMA anything to ASUS UK? My 2080TI packed in three weeks ago and was duly returned to the retailer. They got around to testing it yesterday and found it faulty... No Shit Sherlock. Instead of replacing it, this time they have sent it back to ASUS for repair. I am told this will take up to 28 days, then it has to be sent back to the retailer, then sent out to me. I figure the shipping will at the very best take an extra week. Of course the courier will come when I am out at work and the delivery will have to be rescheduled.... The previous card failure took three weeks to sort. So I am looking at a card that has been out of action probably close to three months in total since September. Unless of course ASUS are remarkably fast in their turnaround. Somehow I doubt it though. To say I'm pissed is an understatement.
  15. Can't rely on through the lens shots such as this and the one earlier on Twitter. I'm already getting far clearer instrumentation resolution through the Rift. So looking at those and drawing conclusions is pointless. Similarly, the latter showed a small sweet spot with image quickly blurring towards the edges. This is a function of the distance of the camera from the lens, which I would bet is a lot further away than your pupils would be.
  16. Whoa there. There will be none of this "checking sites at midnight", waiting for the site to go live and none of the eager anticipation.:) What is going to happen is everyone will show a little restraint and hold off for a few weeks, till the headset will arrive in the UK. Then when the day arrives where I can get my hands on it, I shall get home from work and wash all the old engine oil and axle grease out of my hair in a leisurely shower. I shall then eat a leisurely meal in front of the TV, having a relaxed conversation with the missus, before sauntering upstairs to fire up my PC and decide which vendor to order the Reverb from. Once I have pulled the trigger, then everyone else can order theirs. I want a little decorum and civilised behaviour this time, not a load of people shouting, kicking and gouging like low rent stock and share traders in a trading pit. I don't think my nerves could take another Oculus CV1 type pre order debacle.
  17. Real life pilots in IMC weather, where there is no external visibility, keep their head movements to an absolute minimum. It helps avoid getting the leans. You scan the blind flying panel by moving the eyes not the head where ever possible. I was not instrument rated, but had an instrument awareness flight during training, literally flying a much loved and ill treated C172 into cloud, then attempting to turn around immediately and exit it again. It was like flying in a bowl of milk. On starting the turn to the left, it immediately felt like I was leaning to the right, because of my vestibular system giving erroneous messages, reacting to the new acceleration vector. Moving the head to look around the cockpit would very quickly make things worse as was pointed out by the instructor. Without the prompting of the instructor, particularly in regard to keeping tabs on the VSI, it is pretty obvious I would have died fairly quickly. I seem to remember that VSI having a mind of its own and steadfastly avoiding staying at zero, much preferring to be around the 200 fpm mark and worse. So porpoising around the turn with maybe a 500ft total vertical divergence from the given altitude, and quite a few knots above or below the given airspeed made me realise that instruments were not cool and clouds were to be avoided. So maybe 250ft above and below the set altitude in a turn executed like a playful dolphin. The instructor once we had a view out the cockpit again, wryly pointed out that the expected standard of deviation on instruments was less than 50ft. Superhuman stuff. I thought I was Orville Wright and Chuck Yeager rolled into one. I found I was not. Very humbling experience. I found it amazing how quickly things go south on instruments if you don't keep up the required scan, process the information and react immediately. God knows what partial panel is like.... In those days, home PC flight sims were not around, and I have not set foot in a cockpit since the early - mid 90s, so I have no idea how I would fare on instruments in real life now, but my recollection of that flight seems to be that RL instrument flying is far more disorienting than it is on a sim. So as my instructor said...just swivel those eyes. It would be interesting to hear our IMC rated, RL jet jockeys comments on this.
  18. The way Ebuyer are dragging their feet with my 2080TI RMA, I reckon I will still see the Reverb before I see a replacement GPU. It's been a long three weeks...
  19. Unless Vega knows something we don't, you are not wrong. The headset will not talk to the lighthouses and the lighthouses will not talk to the headset. The lighthouses may (I simply do not know) talk to the controllers and track those, but I don't know how they will display through the Reverb, since it is WMR and the lighthouses are steam VR. Rift tracked the touch controllers through the cameras, but button presses were registered via wireless connection with the headset itself. Is this the same with Index? Is steam VR compatible with WMR? Too many unknowns to try make a mix and match system.
  20. I'm not at all sure what you mean. Steam lighthouses will not work with Reverb. Reverb is a totally different tracking solution to the steam lighthouse system.
  21. Wow. Close to £1000. That is an awful lot of money to lay out on a gen 1.5 headset. Reverb has been pretty much the only contender for me due to the expected price of the index tracking solution. I was quietly hoping to be proved wrong, but alas..... Too expensive and too low res.
  22. Thought I'd better post this on a new thread since my old one detailing compatibility was in error. Just shows you cannot trust all YouTube comment, no matter how respected the commentator. Apologies if I turned anyone off the Index because of my mistake. Found this when trawling through the blurb.... Paragraph seven. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1059530/Valve_Index_Headset/
  23. Gonna be a bit cramped and hot under the collar with that case in my view. GPU fine. I9 9900K. Don is your experienced user here, he is running one and seems happy with it. Edit. I see he put in his recommendation earlier. :)
