  1. Oh God. It will be suddenly all over hoggit. Release date 27th Feb. The hype train will have cheering passengers on the roof and hanging off the sides and when the day goes by without the release, it will all turn to salt and be another ED/HB screwup. Then when someone questions how the release information was arrived at, the answer will be given, complete with looking down and shuffling the feet "err well I definitely read it somewhere". When everyone suddenly latches on and looks around, they will see a portion of tiny blue pony face, an ear and a large eye peering guiltily round the corner at them. :megalol:
  2. Yes it is a problem. I have the Fresco drivers and 2x innantek boards. When Oculus says the drivers are out of date, I find the ones that come with windows and install them. Unfortunately this often affects your control bindings, so what I do after rebooting the rig is find the original fresco ones again and reinstall those. Oculus is then happy for another month or so.
  3. I dare you, I double dare you.
  4. Intriguing. Does this apply to ground objects too? I have IPD set to 64 which is what my actual IPD is according to Rift setup. Cockpit scale seems fine, albeit I never messed with the IPD setting and having had nothing to compare it to, have just become accustomed to it; but having being a private pilot in a previous life, I always find the buildings appear to look too small from a given altitude, maybe by a factor of 30 - 50%.
  5. Mine lasted 31 months. Looking closer, there are very slight deformations under the sleeving for about 300mm, obviously where it twists and bends above my head, and around my neck when looking around. Looks like the internal wiring has been moving out of position inside the sheath and made itself some stress risers, leading to eventual conductor parting. So looks like a steady degradation since new. Also on second pair of headphones, originals replaced under warranty when the conductor in the small wire by the driver ball pivot broke internally. I am on my third facial interface. I also tried the Oculus earbuds, but did not like them. Very hard to get a good seal and decent sound. Maybe they needed breaking in, but the sound was very dull. I estimate this is with 1200 hrs of use. Headset itself is still going strong, although I am starting to suspect the rear leds. Need to check them with my phone. I lose vertical tracking at times when looking over my shoulder for more than a couple of seconds and wonder if some of the leds have failed. Hoping it and the new cable will last till gen 2 comes out.
  6. More specifically the price of it. £49. They certainly know how to charge. I though £29 for a replacement facial interface plate was extortionate but £49 for a proprietary cable made in their tens of thousands. Sorry to keep repeating it but if I do, the shock will wear off faster. So to cut a long story short, Oculus headset has started presenting the orange light at times and refusing to fire up. Sometimes a restart will cure it, sometimes unplugging the cable and reseating it will cure it. Then I noticed a very slight deformation in the cable about 50mm from the plug right where it comes out from behind the faceplate (2" for those still using old money in the US). When squeezing and manipulating this deformation, I notice the white LED lit and the headset fired up when covering the sensor. No idea how the cable got damaged as it comes from overhead via a retractable dog lead and mast setup, so it is never in contact with any solid surface and the lead mounting point is a long way from the damage. It started last week, so it is either a recent thing, or developed over a long period of time and has now degraded sufficiently to cause malfunctions. These things never improve with age so I ordered another.... £49 cough. :noexpression:
  7. This. I expect HB to be getting as much refining done as possible on the systems scheduled for early access release and will only stop when every tiny hiccup has been solved on these systems before March end, and the only work left is to start on the unscheduled systems that could not be completed by then. If they are ready for release by mid Feb, they then might concentrate on making some educational videos for a couple of weeks and get those out of the way before announcing the release date. I doubt we would see it before mid March and likely more like the end of March, which is fine by me. I would much prefer HB to allow themselves the max time to complete; rather than just to please us, throw us a two week early bone that has a lot of maggots crawling out of it.
  8. When you get in the cockpit and find you are too far forward, just lean forwards and hit Num 5 and opposite if too far back. I nearly always have to recenter my forward view as I nearly always spawn into the cockpit pointing very slightly to left with forward view looking between left ddi and ufc.
  9. Agreed and they were making it compatible with Vulkan! https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/the-unigine-powered-superposition-benchmark-will-get-vulkan-support-this-year.9509
  10. Exactly my thoughts. Wags admitted in so many words that the present weather has become a little outdated, and also that they are working on it. I have never had just cause to have any reservations over Wag's comments and am confident they have something in the pipeline, whether that be a bought in product as detailed in this thread, or a home brewed version. Personally I would think a bought in product would be the easiest for them, just like speedtrees. There certainly seems to be far more collaboration with high quality third parties than ever before. However, as you said Headwarp, due to performance issues, we will not see the implementation until Vulkan comes to OB and stable. It would be nice to see "drag and drop", mobile and fully adjustable pressure systems for dynamic weather, plus selectable, multi layered cloud types with adjustable coverage for static weather included in mission editor. And yes, I would pay a reasonable amount for a high quality product for single player use, because with Vulkan my system could handle it, however I recognise that others may not want it at all for the same performance reasons; and also to avoid opening another multiplayer can of worms for the private servers, they can choose to have it or not. Of course I think it should be able to be available to all for free when logging into the dedicated ED Caucasus MP server. Customers could then make a more informed purchasing decision re benefits and system impact. After all, everyone looks to different things in DCS, some like as visually realistic a flight as possible and others are more concerned with shooting stuff down, don't really give a fig about clouds and see them as performance eaters. Of course, it would be nice to have it for free, but my thinking is that those of us looking for eye candy realism over combat would pay a commensurate amount to add realism to their setup and if ED can make a modest profit from doing so, it would encourage them to offer more *. Someone mentioned paying more for higher definition packs for existing modules.... that is a step too far however and I am absolutely confident that ED would never do that. A paid module is a paid module. * Addons such as animations for ground crew, support vehicles on the ramp. Spawning in a briefing room with your fellow squad mates, then fully controlled walking, climbing into and getting driven across the base in a breadvan / humvee to the flight line, walking up to your assigned aircraft and climbing aboard - this is one of my most hoped for VR wishes.. cockpit access and egress plus using the breathtaking detail of the PG and NTTR bases from " behind the scenes" to its full. Granted that many would not be interested, esp if not using VR, which is why a payware add-on makes sense, it gives people a choice, encourages ED to sanction it and also allows ED to pay third party developers to carry it out.
  11. Welcome to VR. :smilewink:
  12. Sorry to be that guy. I really hope I am wrong and you have just jiggled a RAM module loose. However... Prepare for black screen and RMA. When you go BSoD and it suddenly fails to recover, its time to pull the card and try reebooting with your on board graphics. The GPU and VRAM are rated at 85c. Unfortunately from what I have heard, it is the vram overheating and failing. Nvidia are now sourcing their memory from Samsung afaik. No one knows what the real problem is as Nvidia are blowing smoke over the whole deal inc rate of failure. They reckoned that some "test cards" got sent out by mistake, but does not seem plausible as third party cards also affected. As for failure rate, best info I found out on the forums came from non partisan retailers themselves, who reckoned the overall return rate on the 2080 series were running at 3.5% with just under 50% of that purely because the customer changed their mind and sent it back. So the problem is not a common one, it's just that the cards are failing usually within two months or so, making it appear artificially widespread. In case you missed the threads on my particular failure.... you will see the similarities. VR section. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=229469 Hardware section. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=230077 Edit. New card just arrived. Currently doing a full system image backup before installing it just in case. I learned my lesson!
  13. Amazing workmanship and dedication Blue. How do you flush mount the switches? Are the threads just tapped into the plastic or have you devised some mounting hardware under the lid?
  14. Indeed. As far as I am concerned, it will be out on March 21st. Meanwhile, I am still open to the fact that things can go wrong and it may be delayed. This is the real world and not a world filled with fairy dust and moonbeams. Plans go awry and guarantees are just words no matter how sincerely they are offered, or how hard working and talented the staff are. In my experience, you plan a timescale, add 50% fudge factor and it nearly always still comes down to the wire. If it is released earlier, that is a bonus. This is the only sane way to view preordering.
  15. Strange thing is that when using Nvidia's scan tool contained within Evga Precision X1, it passed the tests with flying colours with scores of between 75 and 90 whatever those figures actually mean. So naturally I assumed everything was stable. However I would be stupid to ignore advice given, even if it is uncertain if it will have any effect, if I can easily accomplish it. :) It will certainly do no harm, my case has excellent airflow. Having dragged my lazy backside out of bed and refuelled on an infusion of Arabica bean, I will have a dig into the bag of cables and take a look at the requisite bus to see if it is possible to implement this good advice. I do recall that one bus was entirely filled up, just not which one. Maybe I may have to use a splitter from a less taxed port if so. EDIT: found my supernova G3 has a total of 4 VGA ports and I found the required cables in the cable bag, so extra cable fitted without hassle. Don't know why I never thought of it when swapping out my card. Thanks for the advice Hwp and DB :)
  16. I'll take a look and see if I have any ports spare on my PSU, I certainly have plenty of cables left in the bag. New card will be here Tuesday according to the retailers email. I was dreading the prospect of the F14 being released and me without a decent PC.
  17. Background. Card has just gone 3 months old. PSU is the Evga Supernova Gold 850w. Less than 6 months old. I put up a thread about my 2080TI suspected failure in the VR section but figured maybe my follow up would benefit more people in this section. So .. after some extensive use of the PC and DCS over the Xmas holidays, I did not use the PC for over a week, then fired it up, intending to use DCS and Oculus. Windows did an update which caused me to focus my efforts on that, rather than hardware. A mistake that cost me days and nights of downloading various apps and modules again. In short, my PC after several automatic restarts in DCS at varying intervals, went BSoD and would not recover even after a last ditch clean install of windows. Several more attempts to boot into safe mode /recovery disc/automatic repair failed and then my PC went black screen, so I eventually cottoned on that maybe it wasn't a bad update after all and pulled the GPU. PC booted up normally with on board graphics. Symptoms and management. A noticeable drop in frame rates for a few days before failure, particularly noticeable when looking at taxiway lines at 3 and 9 o,clock. Sudden PC auto resets at slowly diminishing intervals maybe 4 or 5 times. At this point, don't automatically assume and fixate on the fact that Microsoft/ Oculus /ED screwed it up again. Next reset results in unrecoverable blue screen of death. At this point, pull the card and see if the PC will start using the built in graphics. It may save you the trouble of reinstalling Windows. Reason for this update is that the techs at the supplying retailers have put the card on a test rig and confirmed it is indeed faulty, so the symptoms and suggestions above should, I hope spare someone, somewhere some tears if they read this. My replacement should arrive on Tuesday. :) As for me, the main lesson I learned was if you have a slow internet connection, then go out and buy a suitably sized external hard drive to copy the system image to and save the hassle of effectively having no internet for three days while replacing lost apps. Secondary lesson, just because I never had a card fail on me before does not mean I am immune.
  18. As long as you stay below 85C you should not have problems with the GPU itself. From what I have gathered it is a memory problem with the new DDR6 overheating and failing. I used the Evga Precision X1 utility that uses nvidia's own scan tool to OC mine and as far as I know it didnt really alter the vram clock much if at all. Certainly from the videos I watched waiting for the card release, you cannot really alter anything software wise that could damage the card. I think if a card is going to fail, it will fail regardless. Certainly in real life conditions playing dcs I never really saw the card temp go above the high 60s.
  19. Thanks for the info and the video Shagrat. I have heard the clicking noises in other videos, but never equated it to Jester typing in cords. I always put it down to some old analogue computer clicking its relays or something. Jester actually having to type in cords manually and be distracted from everything else while doing so is pretty amazing.
  20. It is unfortunate, but shit happens. I got RMA clearance and sent the offending card on its way back to the retailer this morning. Probably won't see the replacement for at least a week and likely longer. In the meantime my poor PC has been downloading constantly for 2 days and nights and still has not finished replacing my lost DCS files yet. I'm on 91% currently. Then I have to start on the other apps. It is my bad however, I should not have relied on a recovery disk/SD card. I have learned my lesson though, I have a 2TB external hard drive ordered and I am going to do a full system image backup when all the files are downloaded.
  21. Don't feed the troll...... He has already been fed so many pies he has grease running down his chin and onto his cardigan. I think Jester is pretty impressive. In my case he will need a good repertoire of swear words as I keep trying to kill him.

  23. If you start noticing a slight drop off in performance and then sudden rebooting, at least you will know to remove the card before trying to restore windows and not wipe the lot like I did in my panic to breathe some life back into my bricked PC. Really thought that it was some sort of MS ploy to get those who upgraded from win 7 to win 10 for free to have to go out and purchase a new copy of win 10. I was totally blindsided by the windows update occurring just before the failure and had forgotten a slight drop in performance over Xmas which I put down to an Oculus firmware update. If someone else has read this, has a malfunctioning card, and it helps prevent them from making the mistakes I did, then its all good. ;) I managed to download the DCSworld engine overnight and have gained access to the module manager, so my modules are downloading as I speak. Another 60gb..... EDIT: Whoo the download just clicked up to a heady 2%. Of course all my missions have gone, but I may be able to download some I posted on the forum over Xmas. :) it took me ages populating all those airfields with ground objects; so at least I will have something to "save as" for new missions without the need for hours of placing aircraft and ground equipment again. I have not even started on other apps like oculus yet.
  24. Just had a doozy of an afternoon. If a doctor put a blood pressure monitor on me, the dial would have blown off the gauge. So, first time on PC since Xmas. Windows did an update to really throw the cat among the pigeons, but suspecting nothing, I fired up Oculus and fired up DCS. Went into one of my usual Persian Gulf missions and noticed the taxiway lines were juddering at my 9 and 3 o'clock as I passed them. Thought it must be something to do with the update. Took off and the PC rebooted. Odd. Restarted the mission and the PC rebooted. This time before I got to the runway. Sodding Microsoft did it again thinks I. Downloaded the latest Nvidia driver to see if it cured it. Nope, reboot before I got the aircraft started. Then the dreaded blue screen of death. Tried auto repair. failed. Tried recovery files from a SD card. Failed. Tried to boot into safe mode. Failed. Tried every recovery option barring clean instal. Failed. Did a wipe and clean install of Windows. Failed, still a blue screen of death, then suddenly a black screen. Penny drops. Removed 2080ti. PC booted normally using on board GPU.:noexpression: RMA procedure started and 100s of Gb of files to reinstate, all on a 4 megabit/second rural internet connection. It's going to take days.
