But you do go to the supermarket and stock up with groceries for the week? The point of this being you can afford the time and money to buy now and enjoy later. This is why many people, me included pre order. No matter what happens to my job, I can afford it now and will receive it later when maybe I can no longer afford it later. It's insurance and an investment in my future, just like the tin of beans you bought at the supermarket is for you. You have it and know you will not starve tomorrow. I preordered about a week after the option became available. The money came off the credit card, the credit card bill was paid off nearly six months ago, I did not miss the money, I have not missed the money and it seems like I never had the money in the first place. No point keeping it in the bank with crap interest rates. Numbers on balance statements do not excite me. However I do have a Tomcat arriving in the near future without any further demands to my decision making capabilities or bank balance and that IS exciting. Risk... I am sure you will mention that HB could go out of business and I lose my money, like a few have been burned in the past. Yes, every decision involves risk, you are betting on the most likely outcome being the one you want and the reward being commensurate with the level of risk. You could open your tin of beans and dislike the taste of the tomato sauce.... it's the risk you take. Supporting an outfit pushing the boundaries of what is possible in flight sims is just the cherries on top and is also an investment in the future of this hobby.

** DCS: F-14 - Ambush! - COMING MARCH 13!! **
Tinkickef replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Are you going to finally going to get some sleep tonight? -
Why on earth did you take your vacation 2 weeks before HBs very often stated release date, i.e. 20th March? And why are you upset and blaming everyone else for it? For everyone else, it has been stated by ED that it takes upward of a week to go through their new procedures. There are still three weeks before HBs self imposed deadline. That seems to be a fair margin. :smilewink: Strikes me that some on here clamouring for early release would be the first to complain if various systems are buggy on that early release. HB and ED have their own procedures to work through, complaining will not change that. So lesson learned to those that have run out of patience already is that pre purchasing is not for you, much like I found out after a couple of years of frustration that open beta is not for me. Learn from it and move on. Pre purchase works for me because I know that whatever disappointments life throws at me, I will get the F14. Barring an early coffin or other completely deal breaking issue of course.

I don't think you are being entirely fair to Razbam. It is wrong to demonise one developer and blame them for the delayed release of another product. They put a lot of effort into the Mig. The fact that it does not appeal to you changes nothing. It must be very hard for the Razbam devs reading these pages at the moment. Just put the pitchforks away guys. Shit happens and that is all it is. Fate decreed that two aircraft were ready for release at the same time and that has caused knock on effects. Think yourself lucky, it could have been three or four ready for release with the CE2 and the Yak still having that new plane smell. The apoplexy on here in that case, would have been awesome to behold.

Not had much time to mess with the whole voice attack thing, just reading out the voice training stuff. I have noticed one problem with Viacom pro though. It started after first use. When you do the left alt left ctl+ C thing and the config window comes up, it immediately crashes VA. The only setting I altered was to synch the chatter with radio power on. I removed the Viacom pro folder from VA apps and VA is working normally. Could not get back in to de synch chatter to see if it is causing the problem as VA stops immediately the config window appears. Any ideas?

That was quick. Just checked and there it was. Thanks Monty. Edit. copied and pasted it straight into the import window, opened it, got the warning and its worked. :) Also put the licence keys in and its all good. Top advice Monty. Many thanks.

DX11 problem DCS wont run on 20180Ti
Tinkickef replied to ctguy1955's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
confirm it is a captoglove thing. CTguy. It has no relevance to your Rift unless you are able to use captogloves. I guess it bends the arms of the pilot body at the elbows by tracking the gloves when flicking switches around the cockpit, much like the arms and legs on the stick and rudders. -
This may be a stupid question, but then again when it comes to messing about in the filing cabinets I am particularly stupid. Bought Voice Attack, Vaicom pro and the chatter pack yesterday, unzipped and installed the vaicom folder in the VA apps directory. Did the VA run as admin and checked the support plugins check box. Enabled joystick buttons and tested OK. Ran through all the tabs - "recognition ect" as detailed on page 8 of the manual. Got the Import profile menu and clicked import. Next window opened up, from Docs and the only thing in it was "Dash", which is presumably an Oculus profile. Nothing else to import. Shut VA down and restarted it several times. Also I have put the VA reg key in VA, but seen no windows or opportunity to put the keys in to register Vaicom. What have I done wrong? Stuck on page 8 of the manual.

Wow. What an exciting thread. I would suppose that from the HB dev comments on here, getting my loupe out and reading between the lines.... HB can no longer do anything to speed up the process, other than continue to squash bugs, my theory being that the F14 has been entered into ED's QA process with a list of known issues yet to be addressed and in the process of being worked on. QA will communicate to HB which are the up gripes and which are the down gripes that ED are prepared to accept in early release in a more focused manner than any prior communications. These communications take time to research, write and be acted upon. ED also will have to ensure seamless integration with all aspects of the DCS world engine, including all servers, missions, campaigns, terrains and even stuff that is in development. Then there is testing for the proposed integration of Vulkan in ED's backroom. Then the proposed VR improvements.. and shaders, who knows, they may even be looking into RTX and have to ensure the cat will work with that, and if not why. New weather effects new ATC. Stuff that even HB are not aware of. Then, not forgetting of course, to build an uploader tool to download it. Then there may be key staff off sick.... the list of snags and holdups are endless. Loads of stuff at ED's end that HB have no direct control over and issues that very few on here have any inkling of. If it's out by March 20th. HB kept the faith. If it is not, then the pitchforks will come out, but again, the delay may not be at HB's end. I doubt I will get it on March 20th because I gave up on OB out of frustration and went to Release Version. My Cat will likely be in April, but then I can hardly blame HB for that. My choice to dump OB. I also doubt anyone else will see it more than a few days earlier than the deadline either. That's my take.

Good God this thread is moving faster than I can scroll the screen on my kindle. You say that Heatblur Devs are part timers with day jobs? Lordy Lord. Cobra, you and your team have my greatest respect for the commitment you have put into this. Thanks.

Beware the new Windows update.
Tinkickef replied to Tinkickef's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
As far as I was aware, my PC was up to date with all windows updates, it seems to do it on a weekly basis. This update downloaded itself last weekend and prompted me to install it or press "later". I pressed later. I do not use the PC during the working week for the sake of my marriage, so when I fired it up yesterday it automatically started installing the update. It was a big one that took some time and restarted my PC several times. It started with a screen showcasing several new features that I ignored, because my immediate task was to update DCS. I'm afraid when looking for the DCS World updater and main folder in the start menu it was gone, as was the DCS shortcut on the desktop. Could not find in in file explorer either. At that point, the thing was gone. I was not having whatever it was on my PC. sorry, no idea of build number ect and not using one drive. -
Turned on the PC and it said Windows wanted to update and it will take some time, don't switch off yada yada. PC finished updating and all the ED/DCS folders and shortcuts had vanished. Repair, update;everything. Nothing in file explorer. Even Oculus could not find it. Thankfully I learned my lesson and bought a backup drive to store a system image on a few weeks ago, or I would be looking at downloading everything again all week. Microsoft screws up again. Every flipping time. Update at your peril if you don't have a recent backup. Edit. Restored to previous build and all the files have reappeared.... No idea why. :noexpression:

I just watched the hype train pull out of the station. There were people clinging to the sides and on the roof, all cheering when the guard blew his whistle. It set off with a bit of a lurch and several people fell off the roof and onto the tracks. They are chasing after the train as I watch, waving their arms and shouting up a storm. In the meantime, several fights have already broken out in the lounge car. Having had my toes trodden on a few times by the expectant, milling crowd, I decided to wait for the next train..... It took my batman quite awhile to get the polished sheen on my flying boots up to a reasonable standard and I don't want someone spilling tea on them. I also heard that Murphy and his team of lawyers were looking at the track ahead, armed with clipboards and taking copious notes. Seriously, people are taking off the cuff comments by a few different people and from several threads and extrapolating these into release times from a day or so, into a couple of weeks. Once again, the only thing anyone knows for sure is end of winter. Many on here are setting themselves up for a possible disappointment. I hope it is sooner, but I am not taking my hat off just yet.

#2. You cannot place static objects under existing objects, but can partially get them under by zooming right in on the model you want to place and slide it under until the red or blue block is about to touch the shelter. If the block superimposes the shelter roof, the model will be on the roof.

As above. I have just seen someone build a railyard and populate air bases with all kinds of equipment like huffer carts, maintenance gantries, C17s with lowered ramps and raised noses and all kinds of civilian vehicles, like the ones included on air bases as standard by ED. I populate my airfields with static objects such as aircraft, patriot sites and loading scenes ect, but have had to satisfy myself with military trucks, humvees, cargoes like racks of bombs, barrels ect and the ubiquitous M4 infantry soldiers. The author of the vids even had access to lighting poles ect. Where on earth are these things to be found? As said I can find gennies, masts, hangers ect under structures, but never found the ground equipment.

Wow it's taken a long time to catch up on this thread since a few days ago. You rascals have been very busy. :) So once again my tuppence worth. 1. There can only be one reason to pre order an unfinished product with a vague release date and that is a wish to show support to the developers with an injection of cash to tide them over to public release. You do this with open eyes, demonstrating faith in the devs ability to deliver. You do not, or should not do it in the expectation that you somehow have the right for an earlier release, or constant updates. This is the first HB module I have purchased, but have preordered other ED modules in the past and this thinking was as true then as it is now. There is an element of damned if you do, damned if you don't to releasing modules. HB could give extensive updates daily, but then they would be taking resources away from finishing the product... HB seem to have got it about right. They offer enough to have gained my trust without making it seem that they are more concerned with PR and Marketing than finishing the module and destroying that faith. It would have been nice to see the "educational series" of vids continue after the overview. I was really looking forward to the cold start. However, it is completely up to Cobra and his team to allocate resources where they need to be to get the product out the door and I am old enough to accept this. 2. Release of product to YouTube content providers and "trusted" people. Again I have no problem with this, beta testing is getting done before launch and as we all know with OB, beta testing can be a real pain. In fact, so much so that I eventually crossed over to release version because it seemed like the Hornet was going backwards at times. When I loaned my money to HB, I did not tick a box to request to be, nor did they offer me the chance of being a beta tester and getting the product a few weeks earlier. Therefore it is wrong to criticise HB for supplying beta test modules at their discretion. You Tubers. An elegant solution. Supplying updates and publicity for the Cat with minimal drain on Heatblur's resources. Once again. Release date towards end of March as stated and HB has kept the faith. An earlier release is a bonus and to be applauded. Some may view this as a fanboi post, not so. I have no other HB modules and no axe to grind. I think it is the only rational way to view preordering anything and in particular, how HB have handled this affair. Since I plonked my money down on the table, HB has done nothing to make my trust or opinion of them waver. I continue to wait patiently.

Dynamic Weather: Wind Barbs are not accurate
Tinkickef replied to Nealius's topic in Mission Editor Bugs
I'm reading heavy cyclonic activity in the region of sochi, with winds in the area from generally north and east with wind speeds up to 50kts. -
Indeed. I think a sense of perspective is required. I was feeling negative when my first born's heart rate was decreasing during her birth because the umbilical cord was strangling her. I was negative when waiting for my father's inevitable death in the hospital. Getting negative and sad over a virtual aircraft release when the devs in question themselves still have close to a couple of months left before their stated release date....... I am lost for words.

Strange, I don't use Caucasus much unless I am flying the Huey and I noticed those self same trees yesterday. They are very reminiscent of the trees used in Normandy now. Looking down from the top, they look star shaped. Did they used to call these "sprite trees" or something? It certainly made me aware that something did not seem quite right with the trees, although because I do not use Caucasus much, I put it down to failing memory.

I was not sure where to put this post. Since it is not a DCS problem I did not think it should go in the VR bugs section. If the mods disagree, they are welcome to move it. So for the last week or two I have had rift connection issues and suspected my cable was failing, since the only way to get the rift detected was to disconnect and reconnect the cable at the headset port. Since the cable looked a bit deformed and ragged, it was natural to assume it was the cable and so bought a new one. It was not the cable. Then I found that it was a widespread problem since the last update and looked more closely at various settings and why the rift would be detected some times without problems and not others. TLDR it appears to be some type of audio incompatibility, introduced in the last Oculus update. After lots of experimenting it was found to be audio related. I use voicemeeter to power my buttkicker amp and have done so for a couple of years without problems until now. I found: If I start voicemeeter then start Oculus home, Rift just shows orange light and will not connect. If I start Oculus home without voicemeeter, rift will connect immediately with white LED. If I start Oculus, then start voicemeeter, I lose audio in the Oculus headphones when voicemeeter starts up. If I have lost audio in the Oculus headphones and then open DCS, rift, headphone audio and buttkicker all work fine. So it is some kind of problem with incompatibility in oculus home audio since the last Oculus update. Audio settings. Voicemeeter set to default audio device. Rift headphones set to default communications device. Rift audio mirroring on. Hear non vr apps through headphones on. DCS use built in audio is off. All the above have worked for years until the last update. Latest Feb 2019 Nvidia driver installed yesterday without result. All these auto updates are starting to grind on my nerves.

And then the multiplayer community will be complaining that the server sucks because the tags keep rubber banding, leaping back out of the sea and striking them on the forehead.
