  2. I think it is Windows update 1809 causing the problems. My PC suddenly started to reboot itself this afternoon about 5 mins into the game ( just when starting engine one on the Hornet) or thereabouts. Tried it about five times with the same result. Tried it again with a huey mission, 5 mins in, PC rebooted. No problems otherwise, only with DCS. A quick internet search revealed 1809 causing problems, so looked in system restore. It has tried and failed to install on many occasions, so I rolled it back to before the update. Of course, because it restarted, there are no crash logs..... It has now bricked my rift.... Having to reinstall all the usb, Nvidia and Oculus software / drivers to get it back up and running again.. May even have to reinstall Windows, not a prospect I am looking forward to. In this case I don't think it is ED's fault, but is the fault of a new Windows update incompatibility or a failed update file corruption. Specifics.. PG Map, huey and hornet. Oculus Rift. First restart happened in mission editor and subsequently several times in the modified mission. Restart occurred in totally separate mission / aircraft but same map thereafter as I thought it may have been the change of hornet skin causing it.
  3. I cannot really see the ball at all in VR, all I see is a green line, so don't use it (collective incredulous gasps from the purists :)). Turning onto finals, on speed and about 600ft, all I do is try to keep the TVV locked on the front end of the flight deck at all times. This usually catches a wire, which being a 95% land lubber is just fine for me the odd time I need to land on a carrier. I guess I need a Marines skin for the Hornet for realism, just been using default up to press. Think I will go for the red devils.
  4. Many Oculus problems reported with GeForce experience running in the Oculus forums. I uninstalled it.
  5. Thanks for the offer Fit, however being SP only, I have neither teamspeak or simple radio. Also never did discord. 3am! Are you mad? :D. Hopefully I would be pushing Zs out then. Really appreciate the offer though. :)
  6. It should go out, Mine does after maybe 3 or 4 seconds of non movement. I fly almost exclusively at night with all instruments dimmed and never found the cursor a problem. What I do though is move it out of sight after use until it switches off. Are your mouse settings at full sensitivity or something like? Try turning it down a little if so.
  7. Indeed. My solution for the Hog, just about full startup by flicking switches and pressing buttons. Everything placed where it appears in the headset visually. It does not look great, but then again it does not need to. %5Bimg%5Dhttps%3A//i.imgur.com/zyXbfYa.jpg[/img]
  8. Could someone take the trouble to explain to a computer nincompoop like me how to install Kegety's mod? It seems like a fantastic bit of work. However I downloaded it and took a look at the readme. I opened up DCS in file explorer and for the life of me I can't find any sign of the folders and files he mentions. I can get bazar and shaders, but that's as far as I can identify anything. I'm not the brightest when it comes to messing with stuff round the back. One mention of .lua and my eyes cross and glaze over.
  9. Not anymore, it was a 2016 original pre order (that wait was interminable). I think even my bought separately touch controllers with the second sensor are out of warranty now. The sensor that is warm was the original and I have had this glitch since Rift was new.
  10. Once again I have been astounded by the detail of AlDhafra when taxying in after a night mission, but as I stopped at the hold short line on pad one prior to crossing, I noticed something was missing... Wig Wags. Be nice to have them and such a simple thing can add a bunch to immersion and realism. Can't see them taking too much effort to implement and the simple alternate flashing should have next to no effect on system resources.
  11. I know of a few on here with this issue. I have it too. Starts after about half an hour's use and manifests itself when looking over my right shoulder. I suddenly find myself about 3ft shorter and turning forwards again, find I am looking up at the panel. After 10 seconds or so, it will regain control of the tracking, I grow back to my normal height and I am peering through the HUD again. As time passes it gets more and more frequent. Then I found one of my sensors was very warm to the touch, while the other was cool..... I always have a fan blowing air at my headset to keep things cool and fog free in there, so I moved the sensor into the air stream to see what would happen if I air cooled it..... 90 minute mission in the Hornet on PG map. Not a single tracking issue. It appears forced air cooling of the hot sensor is the solution. If one of yours feels warm to the touch, try it out.
  12. What can I say. I'm attracted to bling like a moth to a candle. :)
  13. Same. No problem with autopilot. Like Hog, just have to be within parameters before engaging.
  14. Wags has already stated that the Hog cockpit is being reworked. It is not that the existing textures are bad, it is that there was a huge drop in quality when the Hog was used with deferred shading, this especially in VR. Using DS in 2.0+ and going back to 1.5 showed the difference to be very very marked with a huge drop in image sharpness compared to 1.5. Having being spoiled by the hornet cockpit, it is a very rare occasion when I fly the hog these days, which is a pity, it is a wonderful aircraft.
  15. Interesting. Concerned about the protruding lenses though. Very close to the eyes, I wonder how glasses wearers can get on with it. Apart from the items detailed in the editorial, I can see IPD adjustment, fresnel lenses, a head fitting solution similar to Rift and built in headphones. Be nice to have lens to screen focal length adjustment for those with less than optimum vision to be able to focus the headset for their particular eye characteristics without needing specs. Remains to be seen if this is Gen 1.5 or Gen 2. One may wonder if a prospective new Head of Development deliberately leaked the pics.... the timing is impeccable. Looks like Facebook may well have dropped the ball... speculation, speculation. I suspect Reddit is salivating at the prospect. I am looking on with interest. Good find.
  16. Thanks Hakjar. Very informative. Don is certainly a brave man plugging his new device into the back of his brand new 2080TI. I wonder if his hands were shaking... :megalol: I think the community owes Don a virtual beer for taking 99% of the risk away from the rest of us... Yamas!
  17. Thanks for the advice and recommendation Don. I just ordered it. Since it is coming from the US, it should be here in around two weeks. :)
  18. On another thread an intriguing post was made about connecting two Rift sensors, the HDMI and the Rift USB into it, presumably through some type of adapter set up. It may be that I got hold of the wrong end of the stick and my excitement is misplaced, however if it is correct, how was this achieved and what hardware do I need to get? I have the notorious, intermittent vertical tracking blip issue when looking over the right shoulder, and am hoping that this may provide a resolution to it.
  19. Indeed. The ability to lay concrete would be a huge asset. Last night I flew the Hornet to Qatar and landed somewhere around the Al Kaban region. The land mass is in fact there, but the coastline is just a general outline with no detail. There is no terrain mesh, nor any other ground detail, other than very low res, shadowy outlines of towns and roads visible around 10,000ft. I landed and took off again on this featureless plain, so you do not automatically end up in a fireball. The only ground level details are the ubiquitous shrub grass clumps found everywhere on PG and the small stones littering the ground. It is calling out for some quality third party to come along and add the mesh and detail. Imagine someone filling in the blanks around PG and making a modest charge to incorporate it into the PG map. Fully featured Quatar and Bahrain....I'd pay a modest amount for add on terrains to flesh out the region. Anyone know how far the basic land masses are featured? I think I might set course for Kuwait this afternoon to see if it is there. 3 drop tanks, no weapons, high altitude and placing the Stennis as far west as the ME allows should do it. Expect it will be a one way mission. EDIT: I was surprised to find that the Stennis can be placed directly offshore from Kuwait and again all the outlines for the city and oilfields are there in v low resolution. Took literally 5 mins flying. I did not know the mission editor allowed object placement so far off the map. Welcome to Kuwait International airport......Runway 15. What a shame we can't lay concrete in ME. %5Bimg%5Dhttps%3A//i.imgur.com/DnTWrdO.jpg[/img]
  20. Once again, THIS!
  21. Well after holding off for awhile, I have succumbed... I was impressed with the quality of the module and blown away by the trailer; the detail on the bird is mighty impressive, yet I was resisting because I do not really do blue water ops and already had the hornet for carrier stuff, although I spend all my time taking off from concrete. Still, I was impressed with the quality of the bird.... and I held off. Yet I wanted the Tomcat, but had the Hornet and do not do carrier ops. and I held off. And I was mightily impressed by the way Heatblur conduct themselves with regard to their transparent communications and regular updates. A breath of fresh air. Time to slide my backside carefully off the fence... Tomcat preordered. Guys like this deserve supporting. It still won't see much carrier /salt water work though, so maybe HB could hold off by a coat or two of the internal zinc chromate anti corrosion coating on mine and save me a little weight?
  22. Am now able to zero in on a previous thread... I thought the problems with light spilling out the back of the taxiway signs and lighting the ground behind and not the front was throughout the PG map and across all the bases. I have been flying missions away from my usual base and have discovered it is not. So specifics: Al Dhafra Airbase. Yellow taxiway signs only are affected by the bug.
  23. SP use only and since I made my pilot invincible I have logged 38hrs and a couple of minutes of which 27hrs of that is night flying, most of which are full fuel / 3x droptank missions, spent mainly on autopilot, picking my nose and looking at the pretty moonlit scenery, while flying from someplace here to somewhere over there. 63 A/A kills though combat is secondary to flying.
  24. Oculus to release a cut down Rift gen 2 with better resolution. Most important thing I can be intuitively optimistic about from the whole copy is that Iribe may well set up his own company to further develop high end VR. Seems that someone at a high level in FB is panicking over losing market share to Pimax ect and rushing out a modest upgrade at the expense of the Rift 2. https://techcrunch.com/2018/10/31/after-canceling-rift-2-overhaul-oculus-plans-a-modest-update-to-flagship-vr-headset/?guccounter=1
