  1. I think comparing two different aircraft with very different systems, as in the A10c/a is red herring in regards to this slightly silly but still interesting debate. I also think effectiveness against AI ground units versus player vs player are two different subjects entirely. Anyway, glad i cleared the subject up for you all :P
  2. I have this book somewhere... been meaning to get round to read it. Just one of 100s i have awaiting time.. Should this be bumped up to the next to be read?
  3. Personally I can't say which side of the fence i fall in on this one, but one thing for sure there are some clear assumptions being portrayed as fact there. There is simply no way of knowing who would have the advantage in this hypothetical scenario. Just because one plane is modelled to a greater fidelity does not mean it will have an advantage (or disadvantage). Just because a system is not modelled accurately does not preclude it to be worse at its job. It is pure conjecture, simple as that.
  4. Not 100% sure what you mean, but a trigger will work on any group still alive, so if you have one unit from a group of a 100 it will still work. AI tasks can be reused numerous times.
  5. Must be a bug.. i've never seen it for a ground unit. The only possible way might be with 'Stop and Deploy to Template' with but that is a bit of a minefield. Not a route i'd advise. Have a look here. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=69024&highlight=Stop+Deploy+Template
  6. Another, possibly easier, option for number 1 is to use Race track orbit. Race track orbit will make the aircraft orbit in a race track pattern between two waypoints. The GUI manual will explain it further.
  7. The Switch Waypoint only works on Air units. It should not be possible to select it from Perform Command .. I have no idea how you have done that.. it certainly is not available for me.
  8. Arrr that would explain a lot. Cheers. Odd behaviour for the system.. if it deserves rep age should not matter. At least that is what i tell the wife.
  9. I've just seen this, thought i'd share it here. http://pathsofhate.com/en/ or on youtube: Great piece of work... :joystick: p.s IL2: Cliffs of Dover has had another decent patch bringing it back from the cliff!
  10. Can anyone explain the oddities of giving rep? I wanted to give BigfootMSR some rep for his work on his training vids.. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=84612 The opening post gave me a message saying "rep cannot be given to this post" or words to that effect. I then tried giving rep to his post #7 on that thread.. and got the same message. I then tried giving rep to his post #136 in the same thread and it worked. WTF! What is going on, it seems the more deserving the post the less likely you can rep them for it. This seems the case for sticky posts. Can this behaviour be altered? maybe its some sort of anti rep fixing feature.. but it sucks as it presently works..
  11. BigfootMSR you are awesome, that is all.
  12. Thanks lads.. Yeah reading the CDU/NAV sub pages help explain them.. The Scale effectively gives different options for the accuracy of the cues for flight plan deviation. I haven't read the Steer section yet.. They are of limited practical use for 99% of potential missions.
  13. I also have Win7 (x64), an SSD & had problems with 1 second stutters. Could not resolve it...it appeared with a DCS Wolrd upgrade and then the problem just vanished with another DCS World upgrade...... I have no idea how what or why. But Win7 & DCS are on my SSD,
  14. With further digging i found reference to these in the A10-c flight manual. CDU / NAV / attributes sub-page; Page 225 onwards.
  15. There is no explanation in any GUI manual for 'Player controlled aircraft waypoint properties' that i can find. (or flight manual) Last symbol... You have: SCALE: ENROUTE, TERMINAL, APPROACH, HIGH ACC, none STEER TO FROM, DIRECT, TO TO, none VNAV 2D, 3D, none VANGLE COMPUTED, ENTERED ANGLE I assume they affect HUD symbology.... but if anyone could save me several hours of testing my assumptions it would be very much appreciated. What are they for? What affect do they have? How are they used to recreate real world flight plans? Thanks.
  16. Eh? Unless i misunderstand.. its very easy to have a signal flare on a group of units within the editor. (moving zone & flare on zone)
  17. Grimes/Speed/Druid.. Any chance we can get a WIP glimpse and the scripts you have to date. Would love to see some wip stuff if possible rather than wait an undisclosed time for everything to be 'perfect'. :) I understand you want to present a clean thoroughly tested script set... maybe you are close to releasing, or maybe you are months away.. just keen to 'have a go'. :)
  18. Welcome back. Its funny we have just seen a number of posting moaning about performance and unnecessary graphics effects ruining playability. Its good to hear both sides of the story. Personally I'm with you, much improved effects and still good performance. The one thing about DCS, is no matter how powerful the PC it is very easy to bring it to its knees with over ambitious mission design. Its all about getting a good balance within mission design.
  19. They're the ones.. I miss the Crimea :music_whistling: I don't think there is a way to get these old *.mis files working...
  20. There used to be a great mission in Flaming Cliffs with a flight plan that took in loads of good sights.. that would be worth digging up.. no idea what it was called now... might have to have a root around lockonfiles.
  21. I'm surprised it is so high. You'd expect such a poll to show a higher number of 'modifiers' due to the fact that folk who like to tweak are more likely going to visit the forums.. but over 70% is impressive.
  22. Yeah you are doing it wrong. Late activation works with Activate Group not AI task / Start You can use 'uncontrolled' and AI task/Start
  23. I'm certainly no expert of game engines. But i'd imagine a purpose built engine that has been constantly updated is the best way to go. You don't really think we are running DCS World on the same code as Flanker with just a few tweaks do you? Go fly LockOn and then World.. they are a world apart,(pun intended), in every measurable way. Don't forget EDGE is on its way. I certainly don't think 'new gen engine' is self explanatory in any way.. it sounds like a sound bite that is thrown about.
