  1. Yes! It's quite easy to fly initially set level attitude then pick a section of the centre spine or door frame the matches with the horizon. It's also one of the first practical things you learn to do After a while you'll be able to level off just by making the aircraft line up with the world great for low level flight. Then practice looking at the skid use the minigun version pick up move and set down just looking down at the skid.
  2. TBH I think it's worth it, I had some mixed feelings about it initially but after a few hours adjusting to it I'm sure you'll find it a step forward. My thoughts after some time with it.
  3. Actually it's the oppersite for me I find it somewhat distracting the "sweetspot" is just such a small area. If anything it needs to be larger having said that I'm also wondering if there is an element of lens aberration in the Rift and now it's just more noticeable as you move your head and scan the DCS world image. I am also thinking that the perceived changes in image just initially feels wrong and you need to relearn how it feels I spent a few hours yesterday and the change is way less grating than it was initially and even less so this morning. The other perception change seems to be near field medium field rendering seems different but that was fairly easy to adapt to. <Just to qualify the 2 comments above even to the point of feeling a bit queasy and I am a fairly seasoned VR sim pilot.> Now the interesting stuff I've been watching task manager and to my surprise this morning DCS was using 27% CPU usage up from about 16~18% same for other maps but it varies depending but that's outstanding like about 80% more. I say surprise because I did check it yesterday and it seemed the same as it had been prior to 2.5.4 so I considered my initial observation that DCS was indeed more CPU intensive was wrong well not so. Tell me it's not placebo effect DCS just feels more responsive! Based on the improvements and the concept that it can only get better in the long term 2.5.4 is a keeper.
  4. The system specs are in the spoiler alert. :D
  5. I have similar to previous version CPU utilization this morning never did find out what the process was other than consuming clock cycles. Does DCS have a stand alone render process??
  6. Actually Caucasus map feels great now  It feels a bit different in VR but looks and flies great.
  7. Agree Caucasus seems way better in Rift not sure about NTTR the immersion seems different now.
  8. I think I saved my a$$ here, the second roll was from exceeding VNE whoops what a ride.Video here :D
  9. Well once upon a time you could get mostly 90FPS with Rift using a 4Ghz CPU and a 980Ti free flight all helicopters, alas not not so good now. Shame it could be so good looking into shop fronts or spotting a blue bicycles such details. ;)
  10. Still not sure what is causing this change in CPU usage currently. The Rift image quality change, this seems most definitely a mixed bag. The Rift now seems to have a cone or sweet spot with eyeballs looking straight ahead at the rift your face can be looking anywhere but now you have to look into this area and yes maybe that looks kinda okay maybe better. If you just move your eyes horizontally by only a few degrees left or right without moving your head the image now goes out of focus where as this was not the case in 2.5.3. The vertical aperture seems wider and the effect is the same outside of this new sweet spot. No Rift to face position is correct ;) Actually it seems like there <is an artificial> Spherical Aberrations of the displayed Rift image.:noexpression:
  11. Well its a mixed bag so far in NTTR I am now seeing uptp 28% CPU usage under 2.5.3 same everything maybe 16~17% which it has been in my test mission for a long time. Caucasus upt 22% CPU Yet the DCS process maybe has only picked up to 17~18% maybe 1 or 2% ish. So something is different but I don't know what yet. link to thread with task manger screen shot when I fired up NTTR mission.
  12. I'm noticing more CPU usage under 2.5.4 anyone else?? I updated and noticed this I haven't been able to identify the process but it interesting.
  13. Here you go Current settings Still getting a feel for 2.5.4 however I think the basic idea still works. Don't get me wrong I am happy for all of my cores to go full tilt when rendering stuff it's not a time sensitive process it starts it renders it completes. DCS like any time sensitive process needs to do and in this case do a "variable" amount of work with very definite time constraints, in less time than a frame plus overheads so 45FPS means each frame period is 22ms, 90FPS is 11ms. There a a few fall back scenarios like ASW etc. YMMV
  14. I'm not sure what it is TBH it's like there is a cone of good image quality right in the center and as your eyes departs the "cone" portion the image quality decreases. I'm going to say I never really noticed it before it's just flying fast and low in Gazelle I tend to judge distance and situation just rolling my eyes and looking at peripheral objects which worked well, now it's a somewhat distracting as the image isn't as sharp as it was and hence judging width and or height, yes I know it a Rift but there didn't seem to be this sort of difference. It is somewhat off putting in VR. Having said that DCS seems to be smoother and even more responsive. Well it ought be it's using upto about 80% more CPU usage. Swings and roundabouts.
  15. Okay left of field I haven't experienced it but I am still on 391.01 driver, maybe??
  16. Okay didn't do just 2.5.3 however when I ran the cmd line the updater simply did a check and told me it was already updated. I'm doing more tests with 2.5.4, performance seems okay just the weird Rift VR image has got me miffed at the moment. Thanks
  17. Try disabling all your mods there maybe compatibility issues there are other thread on this as well.
  18. Okay some more testing and this issue seems to be related to distance as well, for near field <50mtrs objects seem to be processed and more distant objects like the cranes and communications towers in NTTR are now very fuzzy until your almost on top of them.
  19. Maybe not I mean I'd be okay if we could get Rift back to how good it looked in 2.5.3 I have raised a ticket hopefully it's just a fix for the updater. I'm suspecting that they have fiddled with the processing of the Rift image and not processing the peripheral section of the image and I really use that information a lot when flying. I am however intruded by the increase in CPU usage from 16% in 2.5.3 to a huge 28% in 2.5.4 have a look with task manager there are now 2 cores doing a lot of work.
  20. No I have no mods installed I'm getting more CPU utilisation from 16% 2.5.3 to around 28% but Rift image is fuzzy compared to 2.5.3 it's okay in a small (I mean tiny) aperture in center of vision but peripheral vision is now very fuzzy and I use that peripheral vision a lot! I didn't need the VR mod image quality was damn near as good as Oculus home for me under 2.5.3. and no I can not revert updater wont allow me to.
  21. FWIW and I posted this thread here Shows much higher CPU utilisation from `16% 2.5.3 to 28% 2.45.4. DCS is now using 2 cores at high usage levels in fact there might be an issue in NTTR but performance in PG seems smoother and more locked at 45FPS. I have to say for me the Rift image is no where as good as it was in 2.5.3 it's very poor.
  22. I'm thinking that ED shouldn't have released this version there are so many bugs and yes I get it that we're on open beta but really with all the broken DCS installs being reported ooks like we scored another bowl of dog food*. Oh BTW I have attempted to roll bak but the updater will not proceed to load the 2.5.3 install instead reporting that I apparently have the latest version, which I kinda already new so until here is a fix we are stuck with it by the looks. * at this time I think this update is actually dog food that has been processed by said dog,. :music_whistling:
  23. Well they "ED" should learn to program better I mean really that's so 80's to not include some form of converter routine to update the old format to be compatible to the new format. Honestly I would have thought things would bet better with 2.5 given they no longer need to support 2 forks 1.6 and 2.x etc.
  24. No this is after the 2.5.4 update sure DCS seems better but Rift image quality is worse it was perfectly fine in 2.5.3 it's only since the update today.
  25. Fly over them open the window and throw a brick at em,.. :P Do you have the correct radio frequency?
