Best Driver for a 1080 Ti
FragBum replied to Cavemanhead's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I was using 417.35 on my 1080Ti before I updated to a 2080Ti last week with 417.35 as well. Prior to that I was using 391 (system had been very stable until a DCS update about 4 tor so weeks before 2.4.5 came out) but with some of the recent updates 2.5.3 and 2.5.4 I was getting seemingly random crashes with DCS so far that has not been the case. :music_whistling: It's playing well with rift and DCS and Win10. -
If you haven't already wait till you smack the ground in VR,.. :D

Any experience with Samsung Odyssey Plus & DCS yet?
FragBum replied to fargo007's topic in Virtual Reality
Nice addition for over the head support, Velcro straps next? :D With Rift you need to keep the HMD at the correct height for best resolution a lot easier with over the head support. OT and all but just the background in the pic, nice pit you got going there. -
I'm in Australia and bought from one of our local PC stores, I ordered mine 31st Dec same store sold out of 2080Ti's the next day this happens often and likely why the price is holding up. As an aside our pricing here is near double US pricing somewhat higher than exchange rate plus tax. Hang in there they will become available.

Actually as a side not and OT I checked out some parts I had packed away and found an AMD 8088 and an Intel 8088 circa 1981, both refer to copyright 1978 It made me think of the 8086K and with 40 years of competition AMD are still going strong. I might even have a couple of V30 chips kicking around somewhere. :noexpression: Thanks for the link, very interesting times.

Can I suggest maybe 750W PSU I just like to have some headroom with PSU's I take it you haven't done a lot of PC builds but modular PSU's allow for a much neater setup just saying. I'm really torn here with GPU's and being a VR nut would say 2080Ti all the way but it's a lot of money for a small return although I'm happy with it I couldn't say it is worth it in a practical sense but I would lean towards a 2080 if the price point isn't too bad, I get you need to build 2 machines as I said my partner is okay to jump on board so I am also looking at a second build but I only need to build an additional PC not 2. @svsmoky I downloaded that benchmark test app holy dooley batman. :D

Whilst I did notice a slight improvement in DCS by using all 4 channels (8 RAM slots X99) it was slight, generally what keeps you out of ASW is more GPU or at least having some head room with GPU utilisation at about 80% average at least that is what I am finding with the 2080Ti. However as in all builds every little bit adds to overall performance. YMMV.

Yes agree and thats why if I were to do a new build now it would be the 9900K from what I understand it supports the highest clock for all 8 cores, it can turbo 2 cores to 5 Ghz but only drops to 4.7 Ghz for all 8 cores out of the box. Best OC point about 120 to 130W power level, I know you can push them harder. :D But yes AMD Ryzen 3000 series looks interesting and if we can has Vulkan API included in DCS. :smilewink: @v81 Actually I think almost anything with ~4.5 Ghz ish (maybe lower) CPU can push a 2080Ti to the wall aka 100% utilisation and associated frame rate drops other bad fungswae in DCS under VR this is why I would suggest the OP hold off until DCS provide the VR updates.

I think you guys will find it's GPU that's holding you back on VR. :)
-
mmm funny you should say that,.. Polychop Simulations OH 58 Then there is also BO-105 But yeah if it's got rotors it's gotta be good.
-
Yes and if we get VR optimizations and Vulkan API, Ryzen could be a win win. :)
-
AM4? Or wait AMD might be able to match current Intel clock speeds with Ryzen 3000 series

New Z390 Build Upcoming - finally!
FragBum replied to dburne's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'll be watching this build carefully. -
Have a look at your CPU cores I'd suspect you have reached 100% or near that on one core, DCS uses one core for most everything and a second core for audio. AFAIK. ED have VR improvements in the pipeline so when that is released it should help with DCS world. Oh and BTW I only get 45FPS in game.

Um I just upgraded to a 2080Ti from a 1080Ti and my CPU can still easily push the GPU to the wall having said that the gains are really mostly eye candy and some GPU head room for when things get busy in DCS. Nice but $. Not sure what to make of the 9 series 9600K is one of the CPU's I have been looking at it's relatively cheap 6 cores/threads and given the that DCS doesn't seem to use more than 2 cores, sure Rift and other software are using other cores that should be fine looks like they clock out to 4.8~4.9 depending on the silicon lottery. But not ground breaking improvements over what I already have. If I were to, I'd go with the 9900K only because even if not overclocked it has more cores but a 95W TD limit and more cores might be a windfall for Valkan API so might the new AMD CPU's with high core count and faster than current gen AMD clocks. Is there competition coming? Also ED are planning on improved VR support (soon?) so maybe just stick with it until that happens and see what you need do then. If you run Task Manager and see what the CPU and GPU are doing I'd be surprised if your CPU couldn't push the GPU to 100%, mind you I'd recommend you try and keep that somewhat below 100% utilization by careful tweaking of settings so you can maintain a 45FPS frame rate. Just for comparison With 1080Ti link to settings screen shot with PD at 1.1.

Fixed it for you. ;)

@ Demon_ Merci. :)

Oh gotcha sort of like the clouds rotating in VR when you move your head, VR thing. :D

Sorry I would totally disagree it is important information as the aircraft shake (and they do) indicates you are going into or out of ETL with the Inheriant increase of lift or reduction of lift it can save you from meeting the ground unexpectedly. For me I just except it as part and parcel of flying helicopters and another part of the immersion of VR, BTW so called camera shake you notice it when you hit turbulence. You should be able to Taylor the settings for each model in settings special category.
-
Yes it is great hopefully DCS VR will get a decent shot of performance soon with the forth. Comming update..

To answer your other question it shouldn't matter if you have multiple installs on the one machine. Eg OB and OA , not steam and non steam versions they are different licensing.

It's slightly onveluted process. If you use. VR disable lt in the VR settings and restart DCS. Goto the module manager now you need to do this for every DRM module you have including campaigns 1) click on the DRM button A popup dialogue box appears saying activate or deactivate the module click K OK. 2) Another dialogue box will popup look for the blue hypertext word "deactivate" click that word. 3) Yet another popup will appear this time hopefully showing a progress bar as DCS communicates the the server after a few seconds it should Bounce that the module is designed activated. Repeat for each module and campaign ets that has the DRM button. You can check you used account and see the status of the modules it when I did that the information wasn't always correct. The modules without the DRM button use the new security method and you don't have to do anything this included all the maps for me when I did this last week but check yours out. HTH

I wouldn't bother fluffing about partitioning the drive and 1TB is more than enough for OS and DCS. Putting DCS on a second drive is more a personal choice maybe if you had smaller SSDs. Besides as I understand it partitioning your drive.will add more overhead to the file system for no real benefit. YMMV :smartass:

You probably also need to go into DCS settings go to the VR settings and tick the box to start in VR or DCS will just start in normal screen mode.

The model is locked to your user name/account but it also means that you need to have your PC online at least 1 in 3 days from memory or there is a feature to allow you to take DCS off line if you are not going to have internet access. for a period. The older models came with a key number and you had to go through the DRM process when changing out hardware or migrating your DCS to a new PC. So far the news system seems more streamline.
