  1. I have seen this on the PG map SP but not on the other maps (yet) I have only been on the Caucasus in MP since 2.5.4.but apart from the odd lag event it seems okay. One thing I had to update my nVidia driver after updating to 2.5.4 although for me the driver was causing other random dropouts and the occasional DCS crash. Although I do get the odd freeze frame which I haven't been able to find the cause of it, CPU usage normal and GPU usage well under 100% when it happens and FPS stays at 45FPS. Maybe check with task manager and see if there is any correlation to either high GPU or CPU usage.
  2. Well not all runways have wind socks, but for say a rural airstrip sure just do a fly over and check it out visually first.
  3. Nice thanks for the update morse,
  4. Probably best to attempt to land into the wind or as best you can given prevailing wind and orientation of the runway, always damn handy it there is a wind sock as well. :D
  5. Does Rift do same in Oculus Home? Check the Oculus hardware page in Home and see if there are any issues listed,
  6. Just because,.. :P Does your monitor have other input types? You will need use a different cable or cable adapter for the monitor.
  7. Speaking of. clouds this also applies to other objects in VR could we stop the objects moving when we move our head clouds rotate slightly ofher objects such as trees deform slightly or bend slightly left or right as you look around It just feels werid in VR. Oh and the rotating tree branches and shrubs really is werid.:D
  8. pipped at the post,.. :D As much as I think the 20 series are a tad over rated and a lot over priced I'd recommend going that way. TBH I'd also go for the 2080Ti but $$$ I'll just leave this link here, it might help to better understand,. :music_whistling:
  9. For me these are my goto headphones especially for field recording, closed back very comfortable excellent isolation from local noise great imaging a tad fat in the bass department maybe but if I want HiFi I use the ATH 1000's or AKG K702's. Audiotechnica ATH M50x info here
  10. FWIW I have no issue with AMD but DCS really needs the fastest clock frequency you can muster, I understand AMD are developing higher speed CPU's even GPU's (yay maybe some competition) but there not out yet. So currently in the clock department Intel are the go. Having said that Vulkan should leverage multicore use so that may change the dynamics when when DCS implements it. So maybe consider a 9600K. You don't need a sound card onboard sound is fine and I don't think it's even needed for Rift just for speakers/headphone for non VR stuff. Currently DCS VR is GPU intensive so might pay to do some research on that. You can use the onboard ethernet, I'm looking at doing a similar setup for my partner as well but need to go through a MP server so when it comes down to it your DSL speed is the limiting factor unless your hosting a MP server locally and even then 1Gb is fast enough. 16GB RAM i'd think about 32GB especially for more complex MP missions again more research. YMMV
  11. Just a heads up DCS uses 6 to 8GB of VRAM in SP basic mission however when I go on line it uses 10+GB of VRAM. Now I don't know what happens if you have only 8GB of VRAM and log on to a MP server. That said I did DCS MP when I had my 980Ti and well the 1080Ti really helped when derferred shading was set as default with early DCS 2.5.x. Now in search of more performance I have upgraded to an RTX2080Ti As for GPU a 1080Ti kinda fits in at the 2070/2080 level some things a better some are not so good depending what tests and which reviews you follow. Here are some stats I put together not absolutes but it will give you and idea of performance Bottom line the 1080Ti was very usable but new shinny thing won out. :) HTH <edit> As I understand it Vulkan should be okay even on a 1080Ti system it's more about leveraging gains from multi core/multi threaded usage. Some info here.
  12. I'm hearing you there. :D
  13. Bollocks given the current state of the DCS engine you should look towards a 2080Ti minimum for VR. Seriously DCS is currently that inefficient.
  14. Interesting list maybe consider adding "can spend money on hardware just to maintain prior version(s) software performance of DCS category,". :D Do you remember when we got mostly 90FPS with a 980Ti and 4GHz CPU in Rift in 2.2 and 2.3. This needs some attention. PLEASE. :music_whistling:
  15. Sure would be cool.
  16. Yeah fixed, in to much of a hurry to explore my new GPU.
  17. Absolutely! I updated my GPU last night and part of the process I had to disable VR, I though well I haven't flown on a screen for nearly 2 years. It was an horrible experience I actually had difficulty picking the Gazelle up and setting it down. I mean I can do loops and rolls in that thing but could hardly hover let alone fly it in 2D. :D
  18. WIP I'll keep this here as a place holder After the DRM process was sorted I installed the RTX2080Ti and well tried it out of course. I'll go over the tests and report back but I can say it's a significant improvement no not 90FPS but with settings the same there is a significant reduction in GPU utilisation across all maps for better performance and a lot more head room. cheers. Normandy Very flyable now GPU ~65 to 85% VRAM 6.1GB CPU Tot 29% DCS 25% (up from 1080Ti) MEM Tot 9.9 DCS 3GB odd don't think it's because of the GPU DCS same usage?? PG Very playable and smooth, still an odd drop in FPS . GPU 70~80% VRAM 7.3GB ( no real difference here ) CPU tot 31% DCS 26% (up a smidge from 1080Ti) MEM Tot 13.7 DCS 5.6GB Caucasus Was very playable with the 2080Ti GPU 45 to 60%6.3GB VRAM CPU Tot 17% DCS 14% (down slightly from 1080Ti) MEM Tot 10.5GB DCS 3.3GB NTTR This is again the best performing map under 2.5.4 flies well now. GPU 45 to 60% VRAM 6.1GB (down fom 1080Ti CPU Tot 27% DCS 24% RAM Tot 10.9GB DCS 3.8GB
  19. I think you'll find yours is 1080 per eye and the pro is 1440 per eye horizontal res. :)
  20. Okay it kinda seems to work for a start if you run VR you need to disable it otherwise you quickly loose track of the dialog boxes that popup during the process. That caught me out for a bit. The way the process goes and the wording kinda make the process a little ambiguous but it seems to work. Click on "DRM" for those modules that use DRM a popup dialog box offers to activate the module yes it doesn't seem correct but you click on ok. Another dialog box pops up offering to activate the module however on this dialog box there a blue hypertext word "Deactivate" if you click that it starts another dialog box showing that DCS is communicating with the server and shows a progress bar when complete the process should indicate that the process was successful. However if you go into your account not all the modules show up correctly as de-activated. I went through process for those modules once more and this time after clicking deactivate it communicated back to the server but this time it told me the module was already deactivated. As it turns out even with the odd status indicated for the modules in my account I don't seemed to have lost any more activations this time around. The good news is a great majority of my modules seem to be on the new DRM system which still seems to be only partly working i.e. it still shows the module as activated and the number of activations left but there is no DRM button to click. I think the biggest problem for the modules that still use starforce is being confident that all the modules have indeed been deactivated. I see according to the write up I lost 6 points when I upgraded my RAM last year.
  21. Sometimes I see that too,.. :)
  22. Okay I'm about to upgrade a GPU on my system and to be honest the module Activation deactivation system is a crock of pooh pun intended. Each time I attempt the dialog boxes make zero sense for instance my modules are current well I'm guessing activated, however after I click the DRM button its telling me the module needs activating WTF? There has to be a better way of doing this and there has to be a way of identifying the current status of a module. A simple radio button if module is active user can deactivate else if module is deactivated user can activate I know simple logic and the DRM is only a wrapper so it couldn't be hard to make the process more logical. Or as usual am I missing something, currently the process is unclear. <edit> If you look at your account online you can check the status of a module however the indicated status is not necessarily correct. There seems to be a status mismatch in the database.
  23. Yes the dreaded lag on SP missions there are likely some fixes to be applied to DCS code.
  24. Although it is very interesting and if representative means the user base is growing or most of us users simply bought every module. However if the user base is increasing that means more incentive to improve DCS and it's collection of modules and that's a win win situation for all of us, right.
  25. What difference does it actually make, chances are you might even improve your piloting skills in either a YAK or a CE2 besides if you don't like it you don't have to buy it. Each to their own. ;) You do realise the CE 2 was announced over 12 months ago. From Leatherneck's site Just for giggles or at least a progression of helicopter training we could also argue for an R44 actually used as a trainer in many defence forces around the world including the US. :D
