  1. Great heads up there. However it would have been nice to have made these ribbon cables easily field replaceable. Did they not think we'd actually use the HMD's? A lot. :D
  2. I hadn't considered the 1070 cards however they appear to share the same memory subsystem 256bit bus and 8GB GDDR5. The only significant difference at the 1070 level seems to be the GPU in the Ti version has more CUDA cores 2431 vs 1920, higher clock about 7% over base clock, more texture units 152 vs 120 and TDP 180W vs 150W. I'd be surprised if the 1070 Ti version didn't fair better with the same memory clock and amount of VRAM as reflected here in this link. There is of course a difficulty inferring the effect that the amount of VRAM has on performance given the significant differences associated with the different GPU architectures 1080/2080/etc. For instance if you reconfigured a 1070x to 6GB RAM does that infer 192bit bus and what impact would that have in it's own right? Although from observation of DCS in game performance it doesn't seem to different between using say 7GB VRAM usage in SP and 10.something VRAM usage in MP, also from observation I could probably say the same for RAM usage as well in context of testing in the same version. DCS has been all over the place in regards to how much system RAM and VRAM it uses with the various release iterations.
  3. True but there is also wider memory bus on the Ti and higher through put over the non Ti version 256bit vs 384bit or 448GB/s vs 616GB/s. Then there is the Radeon VII 4096bit wide and 1TB/s bandwidth. The fact that we have more memory on the Ti is only part of the specs and I'm guessing if more "data" can be loaded direct into VRAM that's a plus as well.
  4. Yep and the switch to the right of it which does nothing is clickable. :music_whistling: :D
  5. I know right and yet still no one has sent me a Radeon VII to test,.. :P :D
  6. I've been seeing increased DCS CPU usage for some time now, I doubt it's DCS ED would have made noises about such improvements. However the increases seemed to occur with a Windows update and Rift update late last year. Prior to that I was lucky to see DCS use around 16% plus CPU utilisation, now it averages around 30% with peaks to low 40s% with overall higher core utilisation. Yes it was one core doing all the work and the rest basically did sod all, now it looks very active.
  7. Not to mention maintenance cost,.. :( For an L39 downunder from about $2300AUD gets you 35 minutes but you gotta do it at least once. :D
  8. Basic loops in DCS Mi-8 with low payload (pretty much going into emergency fuel) is okay and fairly easy to do the difference is IRL is you don't get to walk away if it all goes pair shaped. :music_whistling: Still working on rolls got that pretty much down pat in the Gazelle,... :D
  9. As I said it's doable albeit in the lake back of the dam. We had in MP in NTTR. Someone knows how to do it maybe ask Aerobatics Server Admin. :music_whistling:
  10. Have you enabled VR in DCS? I just enable VR in the DCS VR settings and restart DCS and it starts Oculus and you end up in DCS VR not the Oculus Home.
  11. No, just press the num pad 5 to recenter the view then your good to go.
  12. The CE ii is FUN you know you want to,...:music_whistling:
  13. Prolly the same person that gave me a Gazelle. mmm that gives me an idea, must try some new moves in the Mi-8,.. :P
  14. Sweet words of encouragement brother, you should be our first AAA speaker. :P
  15. Shame you missed the last sale, you only need 3 more to complete the full set. :D  So exactly where does AAA meet,.. :P
  16. Depends, with Rift VR and 32GB of RAM accessing the drive after game has loaded either MP or SP doesn't really happen. There is some very low level write activity but nothing major. This may also depend on your GPU as well. Certainly putting your OS and DCS on an SSD either M.2 or SATA will help load times significantly. Remember if you do upgrade either disk or RAM to go through the DRM processes for all your StarForce protected modules.
  17. Interesting thing I see the OC clock for the 2080Ti cards have been pulled back, interesting. however in general a 2080Ti is a 2080Ti at the end of the day. Looking over the Pimax posts most users have high end systems and still struggle in some situations with DCS so I'm just putting it out there that whilst it will improve your situation even a high end build is no magic bullet. Whats you intention build and use or build and overclock? 9900K 32GB DDR4 1 TB SSD (SATA wired or NVMe M.2 doesn't make a lot of difference once DCS is loaded.) motherboard. I don't have great visibility of the US market so those with local experience may be better able to help.
  18. Says the DX device got removed did a quick search there doesn't seem to be a definitive "reason" for it. Looking at your logs it may also be an error in your mission perhaps due to a comparability issue with your DCS version. Check your Windows version and DX version I'm runing DX12 and Windows 10 Pro 1709 and stable version of DCS okay. Heres what I got with. https://www.google.com/search?q=DX+device+removed.+Reason%3A+0x887A0006&oq=DX+device+removed.+Reason%3A+0x887A0006&aqs=chrome..69i57.1682j0j9&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Also this comes up a lot. The blurb here indicates it could be a timing issue between calls and response from GPU,.. IDK.
  19. That rig doesn't seem super special and specs are vague, one part says 1TB SSD the next part of the specs says 500GB RAM is only 2666Mhz What level of 2080Ti is it What motherboard is it. Cabling could be neater, just saying. ;) Do you have a friend that can help build a PC with you?
  20. Clearly your um my 9600K is out of date,.. :P :) Well there is the problem with bleeding edge no time is really right it's just some times are less "right". To be fair your systems specs for DCS Pimax are somewhat low bro, sorry to say. There are several threads on the forum related to Primax and reading between the lines most are O/C 5GHz and really fast RAM and yep mostly 2080Ti's Although agree on price performance for the 2080Ti. Yes it's better but what a price,.. Threads related to Pimax,.. I think a lot pf people are waiting to see what drops on the table from AMD as well as other "code" improvements eventuate. nVidia may also announce a "new" GPU (after all we sponsored their R&D) Minimum new motherboard fast RAM high end GPU SSD You clearly have the VR HMD already. TBH whilst your system may support other titles perhaps in rift or Reverb your current rig falls a tad short for DCS minimum VR specs.
  21. I don't know, to be fair my first question was an attempt to tease out more information from O/P as to what their expectations and use case are and O/P did state "run VR decently". :( Besides "minimum" and "decently" are such a broad terms. :)
  22. Just wondering if there has been a resolve for this, without the autopilot the Mi-8 has the same feel as Huey and gazelle in response to cyclic input. If not I guess we should raise a bug report given the two different cyclic actions with and without autopilot.
  23. Look it's doable as back when NTTR was on servers we had aircraft carriers* so someone knows of a mod. Sorry I don't but it was great fun and the NTTR map it the best performance map we have another great reason to use it. For all the naysayers, who cares it's a sim, you know pixels and computer code cut it your own way but don't expect to force your opinions and lets be honest that's all the are on everyone else. * I know I destroyed one of the carriers, burnt for hours. :megalol:
  24. It might help to know where your starting from as in what you currently have and what VR set your looking to buy into. For example this 9600K even with a 1080Ti works fine in Rift CV1 but would likely struggle with say Vive Pro. The only maps that occasionally cause it to drop below 45FPS are PG and Normandy, in fact in NTTR with mostly all high settings msaa *4 and PD 1.2 it gets 90FPS away from Las Vegas and slightly less so in Caucasus. Bring on those VR improvements. :) Um yes I'm currently using my 2080Ti in this rig for testing it normally sports my old 1080Ti. For Rift CV1 VR say. 9600K/9700K. You want as fast a clock rate as you can afford it really helps Rift VR. 32GB 3200 to 4000Mhz RAM. Yes fast RAM also helps VR as Well. You could get away witih 16GB but I have zero experience with 16GB for DCS. But don't get caught in clock speed alone consider CAS/RAS timings as well. 2080, 2070 or maybe even Radeon 7 still waiting for some in depth VR reports for the Radeon 7. Broadly formula specked and unless you intend to overclock the PC to the max you will likely get better bang with something like an ASUS Z390 Prime or other vendor equivalent. SSD goes without saying and for general use and DCS there isn't much difference between SATA SSD and M.2 SATA or NVME. I'm torn here I would say a second hand at the right price 1080Ti would be an option but that may be somewhat limited for future proofing so may not be best long term investment but the 2080Ti whilst better of course is very expensive for the incremental extra performance. And then of course there are new offering from the silicon overlords coming out soon. Don't get me wrong I'm happy with the 2080Ti but it's not OMG better but it does bring some additional eye candy. I was just lucky the planets aligned when they did and I found myself clicking on the buy button, with exchequer approval. :D
  25. Well maybe there here. best I could find
