  1. Id still try iy first if you have the opportunity TBH. At firt Syria was all "oo and ahh" for me but its worn off. I think it can look more cartoony than the other maps and, for all its detail, there are many, many areas where the map objects sit awkwardly onto top of the gradients of the terrain. If you fly jets, you should be ok. If you spend your time lower and slower, as I do, perhaps not at much.
  2. I fear splash damage may somewhat undermine your good intentions there.........
  3. Im posting this here as I'm not sure what the problem is other than it affects MOOSE. In short, I have created active playgrounds in the Caucauses, PG and Syria using Walders Skynet IADS integrated with the MOOSE A2A Despatcher and the Mission Enhancer Package. The caucuses version probaly has the most objects followed by Syria. The average load is around 40 sam sites (controlled by the IADS), 2 CAPS, an AI Jammer and an AI awacs. In the PG and Caucuses I can reliably have the A2A Despatcher perform CAPs no matter how I propulate the mission. In syria however the A2A Despatcher element simply stops working with seemingly random actions (could be the addition of a static object, a drawing oject, an few extra SAMs. Both PG and Caucauses seem pretty robust in what I throw at them but Syria is akin to walking on eggshells. I have 32GB RAM and know Syria is a sod for eating most of that. Do wiser minds have any words of wisdom or experience of this?
  4. Me, two days ago. First time in 6 years. But it was a hard crash. The last chock on a carrier static template with about 300 hand placed objects. Miz file FUBAR'd. Opening up in Notpad (to see the amount wiped) showed everything but line 1 was gone. Miz didnt even show up in the game folder. I can only assume it was the constant opening of the ME then running the mission in quick succession. Again many Ogg files in the Default Folder of the Miz archive. For now, I copy and save the missions in a discrete folder away from DCS during and after any amount of work is done as a backup.
  5. Thats fine. Im sure the OP will soon be putting in a Wishlist request to ED to have the devs give us the abilty to create them there anyway....
  6. Im only interested if the peguins fall over when you fly over them although Im hoping the SA map will fulfil this need.....
  7. Ill leave you to your big fishes but even Sardines play an improtant role in the food chain.
  8. @Flappie Happy New Year Sorry to ask but did this ever go anywhere ?
  9. As I said immediately above - use the free trial if you can. If not - ifyou are happy with whatever Syria is running at setting wise, the channel hould be similar and possibly a little better. The scenery detail sliders have a greater effect on the Channel map and can still give you a decent looking image (not lego blocks as in syria) even as low as 0.6. That saves a few frames over build up areas.
  10. The be brutally honest, you do not even come anywhere near the correct start up procedure for the Hind. Its difficult to say excactly what you are doing worng other than to say "almost everything". Also please pay those attempting to help you the courtesy of producing a trk file free of the huge amount of unnessary delay and dithering about you inflict in this instance. 5 minutes of nothing but nonsense before you even hit the first relevant switch. Other people are giving their free time to help you. Respect that please. Having watched the track I strongly suggest you replay the tutorials and pay proper attention to them as its clear that, to date, you havent. There is nothing anyone can help you refine when your procedures are so flawed in the first instance. you think?
  11. Damn - hadnt even considered a Camp C for this week I flew to high too soon....
  12. @Eight Ball Did the chains make it to public release? They would add considerably to the deck set ups.
  13. The "apology video" convinced me to buy it as it looked so good.. Actually the swinging coat hangar conviced me to buy it. Currentrly Camp B. SH-3 was largley an ASW/AEW platform wasnt it? Think DCS has some way to go for meaningful ASW. Now a CH53 or Chinook.................:-)
  14. Camp A I am disaapointed/angry/let down/ want a refund Camp B I appreciate ED takng time to make the release as best it can/take your time/looks great, cant wait. Sorted. Thread can be closed now.
  15. Have to say, I dont think it would be a very productive thread on this occassion and can almost draw up the sides already. I was just wondering if I was missing some new location for future, more interesting, newsletter threads.
  16. I fear that you are wasting your breath and your time. OP knows best. Let him get on with it.
  17. AS a "fast fix" its one of the best. Made a huge difference to how a deck is dressed for missions. Thank you again
  18. Im goinna have to buy just to feel included in threads like this..... TBH Im a little at a loss as to why the OP even thinks there is an validity to the points made but each to their own views.
  19. Appreciate it'll be largely "im dissappointed at the delay" and "give ED a break I can wait" but Im just wondering where it is? Doesnt appear to be where the others are.
  20. I dont think trees in mirrors are unique to the AH64. I already have them even in the Hip. The coathanger has literally hooked me though. Even though I was on the fence, this looks to good to resist.
  21. Thanks Northstar - I saw you other posts about it. Very informative. Ive always been very "a.b.c" and followed the DCS set up of the SAM sites (hence the OP). Are you saying that I am able to use any search radar (within reason) and the site will still work? The reason I ask is that the SA-5 tends to be a aminstay of my Skynet IADS set up for maps various.
  22. 3:20 in the video. One of the reasons for the delayed launch.
  23. Respectfully, I disagree. I think the SA will sell just as well as Syria or PG exactly because it isnt the Middle East. Modern aircraft players have been wallowing about in sand for more than six years now and will likely appreaciate the change of scenery regardless of where it is. I agree there is a reason for the PG and Syria maps but I personally dont think it has anything to do with community clamour. If it were we would have had Afghastian and Iraq and Vietnam before now. The Causcuses are a throw back to Lock On. NTTR appears to be simply an embrace of the Sandbox nature of DCS that provided ED wiith a relatively uncomplicated and sparce area to revisit Map Making. PG takes the experience of the NTTRs large empty areas and provides a place for EDs Hornet and SC to be used . Syria jumped on modern history with an eye on the past and effectively gave Ugra a huge land-grab for furture expansions South and East and some sea to appeal to Navy types. I dont think any were resultant from a huge clamour but came about from need and logic. I suspect most were not bought because it was exactly what people wanted but rather because people wanted somewhere, anywhere, new to fly and made their own fun in the absence of anything else. It would take more than a little developement to stitch them together. None of those maps have any parity with each other in terms of RAM loads of even how the games settings affect them. I doubt they ever will. If however their proximity to each other is a point of desirabilty (I agree that it is BTW), the long standing desire for Vietnam is a good countering argument of the community caring less about a map in the strategic sense and more about it in the tactical sense.
