  1. Sometimes a little reminder of persPective is good for us all.
  2. I found DCS has a 200fps cap on my system. No thermal throttling on my end.
  3. Appreciate this is a wishlist thread but even so, such threads only serve to increase the page count, not only loosing worthwhile threads in the noise (and there has been a LOT of noise recently) but reducing the chance of them being seen by a "knowledgable coder" and progressed as a mod even if ED dont. Now its natuarally developed into a conversation that really belongs in the chit chat section and thats only serving to keep the thread on page 1 instead of the back of beyond where, frankly, I think it belongs. A little self filtering all round wouldnt be a bad thing.
  4. First up - thank you to everyone who has brought this mod into DCS and those who have added the skins, retextures and other features. Help please! Struggling a bit with the Mer6s, the Mer 5 replacements and the buddy pod. Firstly I am unsure of where the entries go into the lua and how the are completed (ie with the arguments etc). Do i need to have the A4 mod installed to use the tanks and buddy pod? Secondly when I tried to add the Mer 5 lines, the mod didnt show up in the ME (so i did something wrong there) Thirdly -despite replacing the lua in ordr to get a texture on the Mer 6s, they still show up untextured. Has anyone got a complied lua with the MER5s and the buddy pod that I could have to paste into the folder? Thanks Boo
  5. This setting has a greater or lesser impact on performance, realism and immersion dependent upon the scenario. Currently its a global setting featured on a different tab. It would be nice to have it featured on the system page and incorporatd into the preset structure so the user can choose pre preset.
  6. Make a change from people asking for Phantoms I guess. Not sure underwter ejections are as clean and survival as the OP makes out. https://www.ejectionsite.com/eunderh2o.htm
  7. The main 2.7.9 patch made the issue of the flat shadow render (even when default terrain shadows are selected) maginally worse but returned the fps to 2.7.6 levels. The hotfix took away some of the regained fps in certain scenaros for me but not in huge amounts. 2.7.6 is still a little faster in basic fps but I dont think thats the whole story as the VR players seem to be testifying. If it were a stick or twist between 2.7.6 and 2.7.9 the latter wins hands down for me.
  8. Currently we have 7 preset options to choose from, 4 of which are pre-defined and 3 custom. We also have a number of maps with wide variances that require different optimizations to run them well. Additionally we have seaborne and landbased missions which, arguably have different requirments in terms of water textures and finally we have helos which, again arguably, can benefit in low down performance, from decreased visibility ranges. Id like to see the following: Ability for user to NAME each preset as desired to better allow quick recognition of what does what Abilty for user to edit and rename default presets (Low, Med, High and VR) to their own preferences to increase number of presets available. "restore default" button for the 4 default presets. Happy New Year.
  9. All the best for your continued return to health. Happy New Year!
  10. In comparison with other boats the SSLR renders on SC are not as refined when looking at the reflections from the bow. Affected by map lighting and most apparent on Syr Map. dcs.log SC SSLR.miz SC SSLR.trk
  11. I might most likely be totally off the mark here. I had an issue with frame drop which was caused by the game hitting 200fps ( sp looking up at the sky) When it did my FPS dropped to 50 and stuck there until I with Alt/entered or swung the camera around. Capping the frames to anything under 200 resolved the problem. As you switch planes I wonder if the frame rate is jumping briefly. It only needs to be 1 instance and will likely happen to fast for an FPS counter to register. Given this is a VR thread I’m assuming powerful pcs and light game settings which, outside of a VR scene, could produce high FPS.
  12. wouldnt have to worry about logistics either...
  13. Its on a custom power plan. Basically its the high performance one with the suspends on USB, disks and displays also disabled. I reverted to High performance in any case but the results are the same. As is say the other sims I have happly tick the fps counter along at speeds up to 325 fps. So whatever it is is tied to going over 200 fps or therabouts. Whether thats a DCS thing I dunno. Going back to the 2.7.6 v 2.7.7 fps drop test i did, I also saw this issue (although i didnt recognise it as such and put it down to FRAPS) when making the basic fps trks. Again, spawing into a light mission saw the fps lock at 50 until i swung about the camera and woke it up. That was using an I5 6600K which, alongside the performacne in other games, makes me think its more of a DCS core issue than anything else. On a side note Im also seeing less performance "oddness" now the cap in in force when entering missions/switching aircraft as it appears that doing so would mometarily boot up the fps to beyond 200 fps and affect stuff sometimes for a second or so, sometimes for longer afterwards. That effect was also apparent in the menu GUI which would lock at 50fps but now sits bang on the capped rate. Again thats something I though it just did!.
  14. TL:DR - My DCS/Ryzen combo doesnt like running past 200fps. If I cap the fps to 199 in NCP there there is no drop. If I remove the cap the drop happens. @Flappie There was a curious thing about your reply made me look further (the saved games thing didnt work BTW). If i load up the graphics. SSLR, SSAO etc, so my sysntem was under strain the performance increased if i pointed to sky and stayed there. As you would expect. If I lower the settings it dropped off. You saw the same expected results because you are beating the hell out of your system as any responsible owner should. I was attempting to keep the system unstressed (too unstressed it seems) I ran another mission with the SC. A fully loaded deck with an AI E2. In my low fat, polar bear saving settings as soon a the E2 is at 2000ft, 50fps. With Full fat ice cap melting settings the fps stayed up until much higher altitude............and then then dropped. What i noticed though was that immediately prior to the drop the FPS exceeded 200. So I capped it at 199 in the NCP and the issue stopped being an issue. Conclusion - at a point somewhere around or slightly above 200fps my DCS/Ryzen throws a temper tantrum for some reason. AS there will never be a day when I will need 200 fps in DCS Im considering this solved but i dont know if its something that may affect higher demand users such a VR'ers in furture. Just off to pull a smug face for a few minutes (hours).
  15. There are bug threads going back to the launch of the map about the LODs on Antennas, towers and the like. None of them are acknowedged as "reported" at this time. Adding Cranes to the list. dcs.log Marianas late crane LOD.trk
  16. EDIT - everything below is bunkum and was speculation on my part. The top and bottom is that - on my system at least, unless an FPS limit in enforced in the NVP (using the "DCS Black Shark" entry regardless of if you use the updater exe) the fps will crash if the low demand in the scene forces the frame rate to spike (ie looking stright up as you are flying at 20000ft). Putting a cap on , even a 300 fps one (which my rig NEVER even reaches in DCS), stops this crash. Carry on - Nothing to see here. Clean OB 2.7.9 after slow repair and FXO/Meta delete. Can be replicated on (i think) any map and any A/C. Reproduced myself on Marianas, Channel and PG. In external view, if I take the camera directly underneath the A/C so that it is looking directly up at the sky, FPS will plummet to 50fps from whatever it was at. As long as the underside of the A/C remains in camera view, the drop will hold. Changing the view to look top down will generally return the FPS to what it was immediately but sometimes this takes longer and i can only get the fps back by alt/entering twice. Checked using FRAPS and in game counter. EDIT - tried similar in other games with the expected results - the frame rate goes up not down. Only in DCS am I seeing this. Looking to see if anyone else has this or if its my end - if so any ideas on what would be welcomed. EDIT - this appears to be similar to the previous reports of FPS drops resultant from a halving of CPU use. Rough and dirty on the hardware monitoring shows all temps well under any throttling limit and a restricted use of cores/threads when changing the camera position. Although DCS isnt MC is there a possiblity that it doesnt currently play well with Ryzen's way of doing things? Usual fliles attached dcs.log fps drop test.miz frame drop AC underside.trk DxDiag 271221.txt
  17. Lower your preload??
  18. As per the title. Test performed on a clean, slow repaired DCS 2.7.9 OB, no mods. Tested on UH60, SH60B and Mil 8. All show same trait. Tested on PG and Caucauses. Fault is apparent on both maps. PG effect is more pronounced/easier to reproduce given its sunnier disposition (just like mine). In the grand scheme of things its irritating but not game breaking. If you like to park a SAR helo (or possibly a Klingon) on your Starboard Bow for carrier ops however, it can become an annoyance. Trk, logs and Dxdiag attatched. Klingons removed. dcs.log DxDiag 261221.txt Helo Shadow fault.trk Mi 8 Helo Shadow fault.trk
  19. A screenshot to demonstrate the above. What it doesnt show is the awful flickering effect these things create, not only when hanging over an edge but everywhere. It would be great to have an option to remove these. I really cant what benefit on their continued existence even brings to DCS TBH.
  20. Hi. Its ok on my system. If you have and mods disable or remove them. Perhaps try deleting the FXO and Metashaders2 folders in Saved games and, if that doesnt work, run a repair.
  21. Nobody trolled "your" topic. Grow up or get some counselling
  22. amyhow @edmuss, Thanks buddy. Im happy with my card and your help even if Thinder, appraently isnt.
  23. What I mean is why does ED irk you by teasing a furture mod and what do you mean by the A10 comment?
  24. Dont think youre on your own. It'll be a nice map no doubt though. Cant help wondering the toll Paris and London will take on fps hopwfully tht some indicator in the confidence ED have of making significant improvments to the core performance.
