nvidia control panel changes
Boosterdog replied to silverdevil's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
No, honestly, Ill happily go along with this. And Ill confess to being an "if it aint broke" sorta bloke since being told to use that settng in 2014 when I came back to simming. And thank you for the explanations. -
Suggestion for a chargeable MiG21bis II upgrade
Boosterdog replied to Rosebud47's topic in MiG-21Bis
I can still enjoy the MiG as it is but I get the sentiment. I dont think we know what the upgrade price of the BS will be do we? The $10.00 A10 upgrade I would suspect was a no brainer for those who opted for it on release and on a hugely popular/long standing module. It added toys too. It not clear frm the OP what the price range being talked about it. I dont what the upgrade cost is now. A MiG upgrade wouldnt really add anything other than improvments and dependent on view more or less impartant fixes but thats fne by me. Personally Id pay for a full new module if it met the standards of the recent releases but for a "plus" package Id still happily put down a decent proportion of that price. The MiG21 expereince isnt really something that, in mind mind at least, can be replaced with another module so yeah....take muh money! -

I was yanking your chain of course but I did find some old notes frap logs from when I got my 1080 (comparing it to my previous 1060). In the Normandy free flight with an A10 running up towads Pegasus Bridge ( this is back in mid 2018) with the power whatever the default would be 45 fps. With the option set to prefer max performance 72 fps. I changed nothing else. I dony know what the default power setting was for the older cards or if other settings such as optimal would have has a similar effect but that was my experience at the time. Curiously only the Normandy map showed this. Great battles, clod and even flights in the Causcauses all ran fine. I only noticed I hadnt altered the power setting when Normandy bombed. At present I cant fly but I can be a apssenger to the inevitable keyboard controlled impact with the ground/ or use F2 view. I see no disadvantage so far in using the "normal" setting (my 3080 is pushing only a 1080P screen and is usually vsync hobbled in any case) but this has only really been on a few free flights. I might go for an immortal spin over a SAM infested Damascus later...... -

Boosterdog replied to silverdevil's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There is no Optimal Performance anymore. Normal or Max Performance. Jury is out for me but on my old 1080 setting this and anything other than max chopped the fps in Normandy (for instance) almost in half. I will try Normal for my 3080 though. Thank you. Of the other settings I do find AA Gamma Coorection -off helps reducing shimmering. The others - ive always set them as per the OP but have never observed any positive or detremental effect. -
Alt+Enter does not enter full screen; stuck in windowed
Boosterdog replied to Nealius's topic in 2D Video Bugs
Had to ask. Full scree mode is working for me so I its definately not a global DCS thing. I had a quick google fu but all that came back with was Exel bugs - that said one thing to try was Win Alt Enter. Ill keep looking about unless cleverer people find a solution afore me or ye Sorry I couldnt help you with a "ta-dah!!" further silly question - is it standalone or Steam? -

start with the basics - is "full Screen" selected in your settings and are those settings applied (ie "ok" button hit to close GUI) -
not planned Move the C-47/DC-3 out of the WW2AP
Boosterdog replied to Tank50us's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I think we are on the same page but, forgive my dull old brain, Im not sure I fully follow some of your points. In the round the WW2 Asset pack has, for a small cost, produced a number of good looking, user interactable items. I had no real probem buying it at the time of its launch and have no particular problem with its sale price. I bought the Normandy map and the pack as a bundle for $47.99 which is more than in line with a "modern" map (the NTTR map I bought for $49.99 six months before). For a long time bundles existed but I think none were quite as good as the original deal (except in the sales). At ts launch back in 2017 DCS WW2 had limited products to support asset development but since then DCS WW2 has expanded. A new map and 3 new modules should all presumalby increase the opportunity of ED to maintain income streams to better support asset development (remembering that this is a not case of a new item being put out monthly or even annually sometimes). Additionally we will soon have another module in the shape of the F4U and a map expansion that will likely be paid DLC. Whilst it may still not be at a level where the pack could be intergated into the core game for free it is possibly at a point where the reintroduction of maps and even aircraft bundles of equitable costs to thier modern counterparts could be considered as a permanent offer (the latter taking the argument that whilst jets are more complicated and therefore more expensive to develop, an element of the cost must surely reflect the fact that they have a maintained environment provided for them to fly in with appropriate assets ) Also remember ED went on record in 2019 to state WW2 was (at the time at least) a more profitable venture than modern aircraft for them so this isnt an altruistic thing. -
I just placed it in a new mission and it appeared in mission for me. Checked it against the historic filter also and even with 2016 selected as a date it appeared. Perhaps try a slow repair of the game and disable and mods just in case??

Pilot looks like Robin Olds + Eye and face animations
Boosterdog replied to carss's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Well now you put it that way.... A paint chip hadnt even entered my tiny mind!. Clear as day to me now as well. Thanks. I remain in the looby about the pilot. -
That pretty much happens now. No one is arguing it doesnt and wont. The conversation is more about the anmation of the crew putting the bridle into position and, if not the crew, having the attached bridal amiation coded onto the relevant boats even if EDs deck crew are not. Joey's point is valid. ED are unllikely to do any work (deck crew or Bridle aniimation) in that regard for the SC given those carriers never lauched Bridles. Im inclinded to think however that wont stop the F4 launching albeit without any special dispensation. I dont agree with your point about the wheels. The F14, F18, S3, E6B all touch the deck. I only see the problem with the A4 and the older AI F18 models. Personally I greatful for the insights I get from people like Joey and the knoweldge they share. I dont recognise your critism of anyone posting just to hear themselves typing in this thread, at least not prior your own post.

So, potentially is it "just" the game figuring out whats coming towards the cat and interchanging the shuttle? (not that id expect that on the SC). Although the Naval F4 is some time away, the F8 is perhaps a little closer but I presume that will primarily inhabit some later iteration of the Essex class carrier with A4s whilst the forrestal will remain as it is until a naval F4 arrives. Be interesting to see what HB do with the Forrestal when (if) the time comes for a web phoot (or even before). I think at present it had one "operational" Bridle Arrest sponson graphically modlelled.

The only thing Im confident about are Newletters advertising sales various and at least one patch that will break something noticably. Everythiing else I refuse to board the hype train about until it goes EA ( perhaps PO for the F4). I know that will appear to be very negative but this is DCS and the less hype one takes on the less dissappontedt one will be. EDs refusal to be drawn into a 2022 roadmap is telling. Stuff will happen when it happens and when it makes sense to ED and its partners. Not when I think it should happen, not when there appears to be any reason for it not to happen and cetainly not when wide speculation and second guesses say it should happen. And, in many cases, probably not this year. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to inform some 5 year old that Father Christmas is a cruel lie and Bobby the dog did not got to live on a farm.......

Really struggling to learn, any advice?
Boosterdog replied to AussieSnag's topic in Guides & Tutorials
my solution was to gravitate to something with less buttons, an almost certain guarantee of death should I meet a fighter (thus negating the need to learn A2A) and systems that responsed well to being thumped/scowled at. Well Hello Mi-8! To the OP - all advice above is sound THe F18 is the perfect platfom to learn the widest range tasks within DCS........except hovering (although with some ME shenanigans that can be arranged too). Even within a consumer based sim such as this, it takes a long time to become truly proficient at something other than killing yourself. -
Is that something that can be user fixed/edited and still pass IC? Moreover, is that something ED could fix in a minute but havent?

Pilot looks like Robin Olds + Eye and face animations
Boosterdog replied to carss's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Thanks - found it. Its still not what I see on the Helmet in lettering of spacing. I still see "Oaks" or something like (but now Im seeing what I want to see I guess :-)) At this point though, I have seen no official reference to the pilot "model" in any thread despite a number of community references to it. Cobra's been pretty quick to comment on other aspects (such as the Olds name). I remain confused/unconvinced as to whether this is a HB/DCS thing or footage of an actor/external 3rd party render (like the heatblast from the cans currently are). I hope Im wrong though Im not sure why such levels of details would be a thing...hopefully HB may say more on this soon. -

not planned Move the C-47/DC-3 out of the WW2AP
Boosterdog replied to Tank50us's topic in DCS Core Wish List
The C47 was never anything other than a pack asset and was developed for the pack exclusively. Its not something ED has decided to just throw in there to push sales. Without the pack, there would be no official C47. Like it or not, whilst the asset pack is being charged for, the items promised back when adam was boy will likely remain exclusive to it. -
I dont know if it is of any use but, for a comparison (not a very good one as I play at 1080P with high settings) I set up the following at Kobuleti - same parking spot. FPS taken with FRAPS. Mirros off. The FPS inst so important as the difference between them. F14 102 Mil24 111 AV8B 117 F18 117 Mil-8 124 F16 126 Given your experience I would have to say its probably a combination of the lower alts, Syria's performance redering at 1440P thats doing your legs.. You'll regain a little using 2X MSAA and quite a lot reducing your resolution to 1080P if that is tolerable and possible. Texture settings from High to medium will gain you a few fps also shouldnt hurt too much in modern cockpits tho you will notice it on the Hip. Anisotropic filtering from 16 to 8 may help in some situations but not in others. If you dont intend to fly near any large bodies of water a setting with low water isnt too bad afte the recent changes although anything more than the odd stream will be noticable. Whacking down your prelaod to 60000 or so should help loading times but wont make any noticable difference to fps. I dont know if you have the Nvidia control panel set up for DCS - if you do the profile is the "black Shark" one for standalone regardless of version (not sure about steam) and the influential settings there are limitied to having power "prefer max performance" and texture filter to "performance" or "high Performance" with Trilinear Optimisation "On". Negative LOD bias to allow may gain you an odd frame here and there. Finally - I see its a laptop - have you set up your windows power profiles, disabled gaming mode and turned off gpu scheduling?

Really? - but thats half the fun of flying something you cant really die doing stupid things in It may be part of the issue though. The lower you go the more your fps will drop. Syria is especially harsh in this respect. You may get a slightly better guage orf the difference setting up your other modules and the hind next to each other on the ramp at an airfield and spawning into each of them. The hind and F14 should be the heaviest but you'll get a better idea of the gereral difference in fps. Id suggest doing it in the Caucauses map. I can do you a quick mission to conpare if you are unfamilar with the ME
