  1. I agree it would be nice to have the older modules brought up to current standards but that costs in money and time and is really value added to something that is perhaps knocking on for 6-8 years old. The nature of DCS is that things move along and older stuff no longer looks as good which ED would likely argue is reflected in the module pricing. The Yak is a different case of course to say the Mil-8 as the Yak has never been truly right since release (so I understand - dont own it - the complaints and abandonware feeling of it put me off). I can fully understand the upset being told that devs dont have time to finish what they started (and promised). In the case of older module Id much more prefer ED to work on fixing stuff that changes to the core brings such as the mirrored finish in the Hip cockpit than put the resources into a full rebuild. That way whatever time there is available isnt concentrated on one thing for protracted periods of time. Reality is that as time passes more and more modules will fall into the second division bracket graphically and ED simply dont have the resources to do much more than keep running up and down an even expanding line of spinning plates.
  2. If you look carefully theres some colour difference on the rear ones too. Still a pain that needed be though. Yesterday I lost about 8 hours work on a carrier group template after the game crashed during all the placing and checking mission re-starts. Totally FUBAR'd the miz file. Having to rely on Mods to add life to the deck and having few aircraft modeeled static wirh chocjs (let alone tie downs) isnt grerat either. Thankfully it was the final template for the maps and baed in the Caucauses, which of course no Super Carrier could even get to let alone be allowed to be in so I can happily not do it again!
  3. Now you can enjoy guessing where the deck markings and elivator edges are since thier mysterious dissappearance from the graphic several months ago. Setting the icon stlye to Russain in the gameplay menu help a lot with visibility of the models btw
  4. @daemon1808Thank you! I look forward to using this!
  5. Not sure if this is a bug as my SAM knowledges end just about >>>here. If Iran is selected the TIN shield SR is not in the Air defence options list. For coutries such as Syria and Russia the units does exist. I assume the Tin sheild is required to make the site work as intended even if there is some dispute about whether or not it is the correct unit.
  6. be much more subtle with the collective, ensure your anti torque pedals havent got a huge curve in their axis and take note of your take off weight.
  7. I was really excited to try this but have fallen at the first. The reason is largely down to my being a Winrar virgin and simply not understanting how to use it to access the Miz file and repackage it once I have done. I have watched the videos several times to no improvment of my understanding. I find the video moves along at quite a pace and whilst the sub titles are in english, the stuff on screen isnt and happens fleetingly which leaves me not knowing exaclty what was done. I tried to google re-zipping the miz files but only came up with "I use winrar to access the contents without unzipping and save my changes" - I dont seem to be able to get that far. Id anyone able to give an idiot a point by point guide on the actual process? Thanks
  8. If you use the mission editor to can create a simple mission very quickly. It doesnt need to be complicated. U Just plop down the hind and fly. If you want to do a little more you can put down some targets. Any of the quick missions for another Helo will probably work to. You will need to find them in the main game's folder (usually in the Mods/aircraft/Aircraft type/folder). I tend to copy them from there to "missions" in the Saved Games folder, rename them and edit from there (in the ME you'll find them under "My Missions" which I think is the default place it looks. Just watch out for naming of the unit as sometimes the mission uses that (or even the group name) for specific triggers which yo may have to update in the trigger list. THe 476th Virtual Fighter Group have created a full target range for the NTTR map which can be downloaded from here https://www.476vfightergroup.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=403 You will need their target range objects which can be also be found on their site here https://www.476vfightergroup.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=287 Using that or one of its variants, you can simply open it in the ME, plonk down the hind and blast away. It'll give you a decent idea of performance in something other than an empty map too. I cant fully remember but I thinks its pretty interactive and my even have a target range script embedded which scores your shooting.
  9. Ill give it a go thanks. Its become a mission now! Didnt think of agreeing to rules as.....well.....its clear no-one sticks to them in there!!
  10. Im good with that. But I get your point. SAR would be great for all the "transporty" choppers.. ASW would be a lot of work for a pretty niche thing I think.
  11. I can see what the image in my post shows. There are no thumbs. Up or down. Discord doesnt want me to have nice things.
  12. I can see the image (Argentinian Sea King) and can see its got 153 thumbs up if I click on "reactions" but there is no method for me to add to it.
  13. Im at the link but I cant see how I "like" the picture - forgive me. Discord is like a teenager to me - I dont understand it, I dont see its purpose, it frightens me and Im naturally suspicious of it.
  14. I think the idea is to visit the link also...an entertaining discussion thread here is probably not going to do anything to progress your Mk4. I dream of the Wessex!
  15. It certainly is. Best regards
  16. No, its was via the ED store and its was openly advertised n the Newsletter. Ultimately pricing is surely dependent on ED's assessment of how well a module is doing against projections. A return needs to be made if only to fund development. Any perceived advantage to the early adopter is a argley incidental side effect of this driver. An early reduction could even be an indicator of the module having already acheived its itital sales preductions. Pre orders and early access exists as a incentive to buy but do not themselves offer any pricing guanrantees. Pre order customers still likey enjoy a higher discount and get the module day one. Pre-release purchasers enjoy access from the time of purchase at a generally discounted rate. I think the deal is honoured and its down to personal choice. I doubt the apachie will be as cheap as it is now for some time but I also doubt itll be missed out of the sales for a sustained period. It would be unique within the ED range if it were.
  17. The Hind was released in June. 30% off in October. I bought it then for $39.19.
  18. Well thats my 2022 strategy right out of the window.....
  19. Perhaps as long as you avoid Las Vegas. Take the hind and blackshark for a spin. Then perhaps the performance behemoth that is the F14. Down low, configured for landing so you're bobbing about at 150knts with the Lantrin in snowplough on the sceens in the front and back seat.
  20. Its a leap of faith. The Hind is considered one of the heavier modules but has no MFDs and no HMD. If you're struggling with displays now, the apachie wont fix it. Without knowing what the future will bring to DCS you will likely be kissing goodbye to those graphic settngs with the Apachie, at least initially. At the end of the day the choice you are agonizing over is £25-£30. Not a bad deal but in the grand scheme of things its the cost of a takeaway. If you wait for a few months you will likely find the module in a sale. I doubt it will be as cheap as it is now but there will only be a tenner in it at most. You'll also have had the chance to test it and may even have seen some core improvements to the game also. Conversely you could save yourself that tenner long term and "bank it" for brighter days if it doesnt perform well. The problem with this approach it that the future perfomance of DCS is an unknown.
  21. "live" images on screens have always impacted DCS modules to one degree or another. The issue is often compounded by lower level flights as the system is generally working harder already. Ive never really found a way around it other than only using the TV when I really need to. Im not a VR user so there may well be a number of tip and tricks that are lost on me but, at least for the present, you may have to reign in some of your settings in addition to anything else. My understanding is that a 2070 is on the lower cusp of what DCS needs to run VR well.
  22. @dresoccer4 I saw you have the helo on its own route. If you are using that as a SAR you can simply command it to follow the carrier. Saves a bit of messing about. If you play with the values contained within the Perform Task command "Follow" in the advance waypoint options you can place the helo whereever you want in relation to the boat. A Negative (-) interval value places it on the port side, a normal value places it on the right. I attached have a couple of templates for the PG and Syria maps usinfg the supercarrier but they rely on a number of mods namely The EA6B Prowler, Military Aircraft Mod, Rato65 and Cowboy's Seahawk mods and the Navy Equiipment Mod (also Highwayman Eds Navy deck crew mod). Without you having these the Template wont load. The templates are based upon @fagulha's layouts which he kindly gave to me. Ive also attached a couple of mission templetes that use Wrench's script to line up the carrier into the wind for landing and launch a recovery tanker. Ive found CVW-17s 2002 cruise aboard the USS George Washington to be about the best full representation of a Carrier Wing to be gained from the user made and official skins. You can use the templete without but they are well worth digging for in the downloads section. CVN73 PG Template - LITE.miz CVN73 SYR Template - LITE.miz CVN73 PG.stm CVN73 Syria.stm
  23. As per title and Im sure reported previously. The only real reaon for this static's inclusion in a mission is for eye candy. However, It provides such at a cosiderably lower cost than the full fat F18C-Lot 30. This is especially useful when populating at deck or aiming to reduce the visible "jerk" when landing that I suspect is partially caused by the fine details of parked aircraft towards the rear of the carrier deck popping in. I know this'll be a low priorty but if it could be fixed it would really help in keeping a busy looking carioer deck a little lighter. Thanks
  24. Grass will clip into the models. Trees To. Drive an F16 slowly into a tree an an airfied and tree will end up in the middle of an undamaged wing as well. Just he way stuff works (if you flew the aircraft into the tree at speed the effect would be what you'd expect). The grass in DCS is simply just too tall all round but its a greater problem in the Caucauses map. Its been reported as a bug but is apparently low priority. Its height could possibly be a result of a trade in performance as shorter grass may need to be denser but noone from ED has come forward and said that to my knowledge.
