DCS: F-14A/A+/B by Heatblur Simulations coming to DCS World!
lemoen replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
From wiki: F14 page "The participation of the F-14 in the 1991 Operation Desert Storm consisted of Combat Air Patrol (CAP) over the Red Sea and Persian Gulf and overland missions consisting of strike escort and reconnaissance. Until the waning days of Desert Storm, in-country air superiority was tasked to USAF F-15 Eagles due to the way the Air Tasking Orders (ATO) delegated primary overland CAP stations to the F-15 Eagle. The governing Rules of Engagement (ROE) also dictated a strict Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) requirement when employing Beyond Visual Range weapons such as the AIM-7 Sparrow and particularly the AIM-54 Phoenix. This hampered the Tomcat from using its most powerful weapon. Furthermore, the powerful emissions from the AWG-9 radar are detectable at great range with a radar warning receiver. Iraqi fighters routinely retreated as soon as the Tomcats "lit them up" with the AWG-9" AIM-54C page: "Despite the much-vaunted capabilities, the Phoenix was rarely used in combat, with only two confirmed launches and no confirmed targets destroyed in US Navy service, though a large number of kills were claimed by Iranian F-14s during the Iran–Iraq War. The USAF F-15 Eagle had responsibility for overland combat air patrol duties in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, primarily because of the onboard F-15 IFF capabilities. The Tomcat did not have the requisite IFF capability mandated by the JFACC to satisfy the rules of engagement to utilize the Phoenix capability at beyond visual range. The AIM-54 was not adopted by any foreign nation besides Iran, or any other US armed service, and was not used on any aircraft other than the F-14." The later models maybe had IFF, like the D, as you point out. -

Soooo. The F14 doesn't have IFF. So MP be like: 1. F-14 spike on RWR 2. Sh1t!! 3. Go defensive 4. Oh, was friendly 5. Go to 1. -
I also get the same. If you look at the framerate stats you'll see the 'simulation' part is using a lot of the frame time. Weird.

*Shut up and take my money*

Its from going too fast. I blew my tire on the Mirage, was going around 180kts on the runway, back wheels still on the ground. The A10 probably has trouble going fast enough ;-) I've been blowing the front wheel on the Su25 too, that seems to happen when I turn too sharply while taxiing. Annoying.

The AZ's systems are still classified and the IP for it is owned by some South African company. So yeah, we getting nuffin' there.

Click the "DEST" button on the INS panel then enter the waypoint number e.g. DEST -> 0 -> 2. There is also a keybinding you can bind to your HOTAS. I forgot the exact name for it but I think it is *somethin* waypoint *something* next/previous.

Hey thanks for this. Its really great. Not sure where to put bug reports. I tried doing different air to ground missions in the M2000 and I'm having trouble getting the JTAC / laser / GBUs to work together. Everything seems correct but I don't think the laser gets switched on at all. This is on 2.0.4. I was running 2x Matra, 2x rockets and 4x GBU-12.

Not true, at least that dry lake bed next to Groom Lake AFB, is usable, even with jets. There's even some lines you can see from the air. Maybe some others too.

Cool. Thanks for that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So it seems we're getting the AV-8B Night Attack variant. Any place we can see the armament and goodies it'll have?
-
Happens to me too. I think it kicks you off if your ping goes too high. I live far away so it happens often :(
-
Oooh, there's something you should keep in mind. The speed of sound (and you mach number) changes with altitude (temperature), also the drag and engine performance changes. Keep that in mind.

This must be in a dev build, the new CCRP cross and stuff isn't in 2.0 yet, which is what he was using here.

I just want to add to this. Yes, the M2000C is mainly an interceptor and you'll find that most people use it for exactly this on Blue Flag and Open Conflict etc. However, the M2000C is a multirole fighter and as such it is able to deliver bombs and rockets with reasonable accuracy as would any other 4th gen multirole fighter. The fact that the French Air Force never used it for such a role is irrelevant, they had enough funds to have dedicated strike aircraft. In an alternate reality, an air force with only M2000C would certainly be using it for the A-G role too. This is all we're asking for here, We'd like to use the real M2000C capabilities to their fullest, because we can in our simulated environment.

I think the missing crosshair correctly reflects the real aircraft. Not sure why the real one doesn't have it. Small, pedantic detail, the precision (grouping of bombs) is fine, the accuracy (how far from aim point) is not, but Zeus is working on it.

I want to do this also, my username is difficult for people to understand and say on TS / SRS

I bought the A10 and KA50 bundle first but I fly the Mirage way more than those. It is a highly capable dogfighter / interceptor and it can accurately (with a bit of practice) hit ground targets with bombs, rockets and guns. Its no tank killer though. You already have the SU25T which can mostly do what the A10 can, but its not quite as slick and of course, it doesn't have THAT gun. Maybe taking advantage of the F5E special now isn't a bad idea, the Mirage is pricey and still in early access. You get a fast jet, some air-to-air capability and some air-to-ground (similar to mirage but no wizzbang systems like the mirage). I'm considering the F5 but thinking I should wait for Viggen. :-)

1. In real life you can see the tanks from much further away (if you have 20/20 vision or better). Computer monitors are too small, and too low resolution to mimic real life, at the moment. You need to give tanks a good number of gun hits before they die, maybe 3-4 seconds to land enough rounds on target. Also, use the gun stability (P key, or stage 1 trigger if you have a warthog), before you fire (press and hold p, then fire) 2. As close as you can ;-)

I didn't say nuclear ;-) Aircraft carriers are big and slow and easy targets for standoff weapons these days. Also, a sophisticated enemy will have submarines. Carriers have little hope of evading modern torpedos and seeing that the carrier group cannot hide (satellites etc), the enemy will know exactly where it is, allowing for easy submarine or long range smart weapon ambush. Carriers have become a very expensive way to move a bunch of planes around.
-
Aircraft carriers are only a dominant asset in naval warfare if going up against a very unsophisticated enemy. Two sophisticated enemies will destroy each other's carriers in the first day with (practically) unstoppable ICBMs or whatever. With the F35 I'm guessing we'll have to see. It seems to be difficult to maintain. Its small payload is not an issue for air to air warfare, you're not going to need more than 4 missiles per plane at a time anyway (or not more than once in your career in modern warfare). The issue is its A2G payload and range. Both tiny.
-
Yeah, I like the green / brown over blue camo. SAAF F1 looks kickass with the modern scheme. What I would give for both CZ and AZ variants...
-
It is entirely possible the Mirage as it stands is a bit too fast for one or another reason. I noticed I could get to supersonic speeds at low level without use of the afterburner. The plane was mostly empty. I'm not sure the Mirage 2000 is supposed to be able to supercruise like that.
-
I doubt the F14 will be overpowered, even with the AIM54 at its disposal. Everyone uses their jammers already so the detection / lock-on range will be much diminished for a start. After that, A Tomcat is going to have a hard time dogfighting Mirages and Su27/Mig29. It will be down the the skill of the driver again.

OK, thanks, yes, the friction coefficient could be too large. For the time being we can all just learn to aim a bit higher, it is not off by much.
