The GTX 295 is a dual GPU-card. These cards are not optimal for several games and AFAIK that's also true for LockOn/DCS for most configurations. The GTX 4xx cards are faster, have DX11 support, but with a single GPU. If you can afford to wait, I'd do so and check out the upcoming 6xxx generation cards from AMD. Even if you're an nVidia guy, the prices will most likely drop after AMD's cards arrive on the market. If you go for a GTX 480 I recommend using a dual- or tripple-fan cooler solution. The cards produce a lot of heat. Edit: If you really want to go for a dual-GPU solution: There are rumors about a GTX 495 being released after AMD's cards have hit the market. I can't imagine how nVidia is going to keep the GTX 495 cool, though...

Well, I guess that depends on whether you want to build a cockpit for a beta or for the full version. ;) I'll wait for the full version with all inputs listed in the keylist. Though probably not all functions will be assigned to keys by default, they will be present in the keylist. At least, that's how it was for BlackShark. On the other hand, the LUA-files as most of the stuff is subject to change. Remember it's a beta? I don't know which method will cause you more work and trouble on the long run.
-
Do you need to work with LUA-scripts to make this switch work? As it is implemented in A-10C, the switch-positions have keys assigned. So you can simply use tools like HIDMacro or SVMapper and map the according buttons to your switches. The later also ID's any devices listed. In theory, you can link up 20 keyboards or so and assign the same key on each keyboard with a different function or macro. I used this for programming my BU0836, as well as for modifying a standard external keypad to a WASD-Gaming pad. SVMapper also allows press and release configuration, so it should be very easy to make up makros and map buttons directly instead of working via lua. Well at least IMHO.

If all fails, our only hope is to clone John Wayne. I think that's perfectly obvious.

There were aliens in Die Hard? I'd rather call Sigourney Weaver - she and Will Smith would make a good team to kick some alien butts. Oh, and William Shatner - he was always there to punch an Alien in the face, when Diplomacy failed. Just bring a defibrilator - just in case - he's not the youngest any more.

There is no absolute rule for this, but a common guideline: Alpha = Features are being added. Beta = Featurelock, implemented things are being polished, completed and tested.

Offical Thrustmaster Warthog Release
Feuerfalke replied to StageFright's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Not meaning to derail the thread, but this reminds me to an old joke: A mighty genie rises from a bottle and grants a man a single wish. He tries to make up a good wish, something he always wanted. Finally he says: "I've always wanted to visit America. But I live in Europe and I'm afraid of flying and I'm getting really seasick. So my wish is: I want a bridge from Europe to America." "Are you crazy? Just imagine the mass of the pillars, how many concrete this would take. The ocean is kilometers deep. Do you even have an idea how hard it is to make them withstand the waves, the tides and the storms?" "Okay, then I want to understand women. I want to know what they really think when they say 'ah, nothing' or 'okay', why they always run in pairs to the toilette, what they really want, why they do the things they do and why both changes by the hour." "Would 8 lanes be sufficient?" -
http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=58024 :music_whistling: It still works with some problems, though. You also stated, that you were both trying to run the 2slot-mission. That's another shared problem.

AFAIK the A-10 was designed to land on improvised runways, such as the German Autobahn runways in the Fulda-Gap-Scenario. One design characteristic that supports it is the sturdy landing gear, another point is the raised position of the engines to lower the risk of ingesting FODs on such fields.

Problems with CH HOTAS integration in A-10, advice appreciated
Feuerfalke replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
You have to switch the HOTAS in "mapped mode" to make it work reflecting your programming. In "direct mode" it will only work in DirectX-mode (DX-Buttons) Also note, that there is a dedicated forum on this board, that's about hardware and input devices. Please make your next post in the correct forums. -
There is no release-date for SOW, yet, not even daring to speak of a price. And it's still based upon IL2 more or less. So your main argument doesn't really fit. If you preordered it 4 years ago (!), well, that's rather an argument that you have too much money, not too little. This is especially true, since SOW at this time WAS an addon for IL2 and as such had a prospected addon-price. It's a new game, so 30$ won't be it.

The HUD is not the active display. It's a semi-mirroring surface that reflects a projection. As with any mirror, if you move your position, the reflected area changes accordingly. As such can move your head to a point where you are no longer able to see the reflection at all.
-
As it was stated before: The engine is not optimized, yet. So you may put a lot of effort into squeezing the maximum performance out of your PC, but if the software can't use it, yet, you won't benefit much from it. Of course, if there is a driver-problem, that's a different matter. Just keep in mind that it's a beta, before you fry your CPUs.

Too late - LOL :fear:

Well,... 1st - these people who are participating in the OpenBeta are people who already bought your product. The majority did so now, to participate in the open beta. Not good for business to ban them. 2nd - when a massive number of players starts into an open-beta, chaos is preprogrammed in the first days. I participated in a lot of different betas, can't remember a single one of them, where testers immediately acted like professionals. 3rd - of course there are methods to force them into a predesigned rigid pattern, but this needs a strict planning and coordinated manpower. For the assigned task, that's simply overkill, regarding timetables and plans. Long story short: Things will cool down, things will work as intended. Maybe not immediately, but with a good balancing between effort and outcome. I think ED handles this pretty good.
-
That's not suitable. ED has a staff of beta-testers, who are testing the simulation for quite a while now. They use a professional interface for reporting and discussing bugs. (MANTIS) The open-beta, however, is designed to gather hardware compatibility reports. That's a completely different scope and a completely different level. So the main issue now, is the fact that 99,9% of the reports are not at all related to hardware-issues, but to content- and software-bugs. That's not a problem of the interface, it's a problem of reading and understanding things ED needs as well as explanations and rules posted. The FAQ and Wags Welcome message, for example. It's also known that the search function does only work with a slight workaround, but that's one more reason to not spam the beta-forum, but post bugs here AFTER USING THE SEARCH FUNCTION for similar issues already reported. I'm sure, though, once the first excitement has settled down a bit, the ED, the Testers Team and the Open Beta Team can start working coordinated on their tasks and support each other more effectively.
-
Nice idea - doesn't work. There is a form with example posted on the forums how to report an issue, complete with machine details, drivers, etc. Fact is OMGOMGOMG replaces all needed vital information, there is no confirmation of bugs, no steps how to reproduce crashes, no tracks or screenshots posted, no crash-reports, no matter how often this is asked for. :(
-
Thanks. That's my favorite thread as well. And nobody listens to any coordinating act, to any rule and just post their a**es off with bugs already know. FAQ? What's that? Forum Rules? Never saw them - to busy with creating new threads! My problem is really new and most important. :) I guess we all understand the excitement, though, so hopefully we'll be able to bring some order into chaos in the coming days. Wags, Groove, Viper and many others are already working double shifts - LOL

(in theory) You will only get an FPS-boost if you had vsync enabled, but Tripple-Buffer disabled before. That's like driving a Porsche in 1st gear, as the new image is only rendered, when the monitor is ready to build a new picture. Vsync also may make the game look more smoothly, but this is largely because the FPS are limited to fixed parameters: If you have massively increased FPS with vysnc+TBuffer vs unsync - Tbuffer, I recommend using FRAPS to confirm your findings. The options for tripple-buffering and for vsync are in the standard driver for nVidia as well.

Unreal Tournament - oh, and a fake. -
You don't need to go back. You just need to update some DX9 files. The webupdater posted above will do that for you easily.

In most European and NA banks you can get prepaid VISA or MASTERCARDS. They are charged with a certain amount of money and are not bound to a user or buyer.
