Strange intermittent fps drop for no reason
Feuerfalke replied to HOKUM52's topic in Game Performance
It would be a good start to give us a hint about the hardware used by your brother. Sounds like swapping to HDD. Also the number of running processes would be a good information. Active virus-scanning, etc. -
I just hope EDGE will look and perform better. ED has put a lot of effort in the current engine and really beaten the best possible performance out of it. Truly: Hats off for that! But in the end, it's not the planes or the vehicles or the simulation, not even the crashes that kill my immersion - it is the Lego-World-Looks with 30 fps performance. More and more I quit the game, when my view wanders out of the cockpit. Especially on rampstart, near airports or when flying formations. :noexpression:

Online is not online. There are some nice freeflight-servers available with many experienced players who are willing to do everything from explaining startup to flying formation or blowing stuff up. Most of them have slots for all modules. And then there are a lot of mission-based servers. You can easly hop on and join teamspeak or just chat a bit (which is a bit difficult in tense situations). Biggest challenge are PvP-servers. They usually have larger missions and maps and allow for both sides to be played. It makes the A-10C a lot more intense to fly, as you quickly go from hunter to hunted. Some also contain CA-slots, so even groundunits may be player-controlled. I strongly recommend using teamspeak on these servers, though.

Maybe I don't understand what your problem is, but DCS doesn't use 7-8 GB on your machine. 1.3 GB are used by your system and programs, 3.5 GB are reserved for DCS but only 0.4 GB are actually used. Another 0.3 are on standby for applications. 2.8 GB are unused. That's pretty normal, IMHO. Reserved memory doesn't mean it's used. For most programs Windows allocates as much memory as possible. Standard is 1/2 of your memory. If you have other major programs running, the available resources will be lowered accordingly.

Then why not try a multiplayer game?

Did the server have unlimited fuel enabled?

Great news!

We don't know about the plans for 3rd-Party-Modules. Steam supports 3rd-Party addons and even tons of mods. Others can simply be installed manually in the correct folder. Let's not judge from less than 12 hours of DCS on Steam, what will happen in the next years to come. Besides that, Steam is quite comfortable, as it offers a lobby/buddy-system, DCS still doesn't have and it give you a system to start and organize all games from a single client. So it's not completely nonsense to try to install your games under Steam. As posted above: Just another chance to make a choice.
-
I don't get it either. What's wrong with offering people a choice and earn more money from a new platform???
-
You can also buy games as a present, recommend it to friends, let friends use your bonus-keys, share missions, screenshots and videos via CommunityHub. And last not least: you can TRADE games (If supported by the developer). Steam has also a very decent recommendation-function and a metascore. In general: The more people play a game and like it, the better it is promoted or the more likely it is included in recommendations.

Steam doesn't update. The producers send updates to Steam. If there is no update sent to them, there's no update. Cliffs of Dover no longer officially supported. So no more patch for CloD. The ATAG-"Patch" is an unofficial mod, which is not officially approved. So you won't see this on Steam either.

The August 2nd Wags Update! Thread
Feuerfalke replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Maybe it's just the cross-age of this forums, but sometimes when I read comments like in this thread, I hear that old grumpy bastard voice saying: "WHAT!? You are offering ME freedom of choice? Son, are you kidding me? I started playing hardcore sims, before your freedom of choice-thing was even invented! So take your rebellious crap and get the hell off my lawn!" -
The August 2nd Wags Update! Thread
Feuerfalke replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
That's a question of a glas half full or half empty, I guess. If you rather wait for feedback on releases before updating or you're mostly playing alone or you don't mind disabling the update, I guess that new option is obsolete. For everybody else, it seems pretty handy to me, to solve this problem with a simple click. -
Just wait till Eagle Dynamics goes for the Stock Exchange. :)

OMG - LoL :megalol: Bang Ding Ow :chair:

Much less than you think. If you want to use weapon upgrades, personal weapons, gunner-stations and bombs in RoF you need a lot more buttons than to fly the A-10C. I'd even say that you need more buttons to work a plane efficiently in IL2 than you need for simplified Flaming-Cliff-Planes like the F-15C and the Mig29. And then, there's nothing that comes as close to WW2 than flying a gun-run with the A-10 oder Su25. :pilotfly:

Neither. The truth lies in between. ;)
-
Very interesting! It makes the DCS-environment even richer! Just waiting to play that legendary "Last Countdown"-Szene with Tomcats hunting Zeros.
-
Because a finished map doesn't mean the engine is finished. ;) And if the engine isn't finalized, neither are the tools. And if the tools get updated, maybe the map can be updated as well. So if one day Map + Engine + Tools are released, everything looks the best way possible to meet your expectations. Would you like to have anything less?
-
Hmmm, I don't want to stretch it, but... ...why did they "break up" in these groups. Were they united before?
-
I doubt that. If you invite your friends to play DCS, how many of them say: No I won't fly because it looks ugly? Edit: DCS / A-10C is already available on Steam ;)

Battlefield 3 sold over 10 Million copies in the first week, 3 Million of which where preorders. AFAIK there were 100,000 ranked servers online in peak times. There is no official number, but AFAIK the maximum simultanious players were between 400,000 and 600,000. The largest number of online-players for IL2 I've ever seen was close to 400.
