  2. I'd rather wait another year to see what the next GPU generation can do for VR, what Vulkan brings to DCS and for the crypto miners & hardware scalpers to find other ways to drive their greed.
  3. At one point it will. Right now I guess they're using the Viper pods as a testbed for functionality and bug squashing and once they're mission ready, will roll them out to the rest of the modules.

  5. Then tech changed and nowadays it's quite the effort to do just right. All the other games that feature the effect (That I'm aware of) do it by blending texture sets through a shader, which comes with a sizable memory footprint but is relatively simple to do codewise so relatively easily do but things fall apart quickly on the user's end if they don't have the VRAM to spare. With today's EDGE, VRAM is something notoriously short for most of the DCS userbase. But we're getting offtopic - let's just wait and see if and how they do it, k?
  6. Unless ED come up with some novel way to do it that noone else in the industry pulled off, functional wipers in the sim will eat silly amounts of VRAM.
  7. AIO is short for All In One liquid cooler, the 240 and 360 refer to the size in millimeters of the radiator used to dump the heat from the loop. A 240 radiator will use two 120mm fans, a 360 one will use three 120mm fans, a 280 will use two 140mm ones etc. A larger radiator will be able to remove more heat from the water.

It will be interesting to see if those were cherrypicked from the top tier bin for reviewing. Clocking higher than that seems to be reserved to the extreme overclockers, some first results of those can be found at hwbot.org. You decide for yourself wether the result is worth the hassle.

  12. That's a high-polygon model to project details from onto a low-polygon model, with a bit of rigging and posing it can become any ingame model ED wants it to be.

Current plan of Germany's DoD is to order in FY23 a number of dual-seat Superbugs for nuclear and Tranche 4 Typhoons for conventional striking tasks (Ability to deliver B61 was a hard requirement) plus either Growlers or yet more Typhoons for EWR tasks. This needs to pass the yet-to-get-elected Parliament though, so anything can happen. Ministers gave the F35 a hard pass repeatedly tho, so that's very unlikely to happen.
  17. Thing is, the way DSC handles maps/scenery is vastly different from XPlane or MSFS and it's not easily changed. ED is aware of this and there's word they'd be working on it, but don't expect them to be anytime soon. To iterate: Currenty, it'd be hard to merge multiple maps into one and have it run with the same level of performance/graphical fidelity as any of the single maps and you couldn't do it yourself at home due to lack of source material and license issues.

  19. NVidia announced they're working with Chronos Group to put RTX into Vulkan at GTC 2018 back in March.
  20. The 398.11 drivers support Vulkan without the need for any further API installed, the Vulkan API was integrated with the Geforce drivers from 364.xx onwards. DCS however isn't yet updated to make use of Vulkan.

  24. MH-60 PaveHawk & MH-53 PaveLow... I'd love to take these for a CSAR ride in DCS some day in the future. Night-time NOE flying for miles on end and then meeting a Herc for A2A refuelling during the early dawn... :drool:
