Yes I am using 7inch screens because they are 4:3 ratio vs 16:10 or 16:9 as the USB lilliputs are and most LCD panels out there. The cougar MFD is square, not a rectangle, so a 7 inch 4:3 is perfect where as if you go with 16:9 or so you have to use 8inch and then it sticks out the sides or even further down below if in portrait mode. I will hook one up with the short cable and snap a couple pics so you can see it in operation in the frame, try to over the next day or so. I have another tweak to make on frame design and once it is all dialed in I will share out the file sure. I actually created a thread for my VR chair project a while ago and keep meaning to update it. Here is the link to it. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=178486

Wow, impressive. If I ever had a someone do that to my controls I would whack them and kick their butt out my house never to return again. I am more impressed that the jstick base is so tough as well. I think my TM Hog would snap with half that force applied. :joystick: Now even more eager to get my pre-order filled. Still waiting on next steps after production delay message.

Here is a link to the screens I am using. I just have them in portrait mode vs landscape. and they fit perfect. http://www.ebay.com/itm/7inch-800x600-Lcd-panel-LVDS-TTL-Tcon-board-DVI-VGA-lcd-controller-board-/181356421375?hash=item2a39af60ff This guy is great and I got them in like 3-4days from China. I have ordered several set of screens from him and all has gone without issue. Very happy to buy from him again and will. He has hundreds of screens of all types, touch, non touch, all res's and sizes and ratios/formats. Here is a pic of a couple different screens I have. The one on the bottom is the model used for my MFD's The cable from the screen to the controller board are being lengthened by a guy for me as I need for my install choice. This is due to the fact I am mounting mine on articulated arms versus a static install as virtually everyone else does. Unless you were trying to copy my VR chair design you really would not have to worry about lengthening the cable harness as I am doing. Once done it will be bundled with the MFD cable and comes out the bottom of my housing unit just as the MFD cable does currently. I can snap a couple pics later and post I suppose if still not understanding from my explanation.

Eh, it was a pretty safe assumption to make considering 90% it seems use them and most of the other 10% use one large screen for both. Us outliers are kinda rare it seems. :smilewink:

Yeah I designed the cases myself then had them printed. I just went to tinkercad.com website and designed them on the site for free and downloaded the model file then had a guy I found on 3dhubs.com who was in my immediate area to print them for me and he is a cool guy and I tweak design, send him file and he prints, I pick up and test fit, tweak design, he prints..rinse and repeat till I got/get it right.

Yes they are working screens. They are not USB however, they are regular LCD screens. Though USB ones could have been emplyed certainly, but not this clean/lean of a housing design I think. There is a wire that comes out the bottom and attaches to the controller board which where it gets powered and connected to PC from. I am extending the harness wire that goes from the controller board to the screen to keep it clean. The housing is one I designed and printed with a 3d printer. A couple final minor tweaks and design will be final. I made some other mounts that are for the MFD's without screens added as well. Again, going to VR has made functional MFD screens not as much of a priority any more sadly. Just the stock TM Cougar MFD frames meet my needs now with my adapters for them.

I like mine and adding screens make them even better though with VR now, don't need the screens. Still use the MFD's for tactile use of course in VR. A few pics of my custom designed mounts for them. Hope you don't mind the pics. Can remove if so.

Yeah it just is a cloned mouse but allows me to keep it in same spot and part of throttle so added a rotary controller via the ms wheel and then normal ms clicks as well. My G13 has a mini jstick that i can flip between being a jstick or a ms cursor as well. So with all this, never need to reach for my desk when in flight.

And not to mention the looks/comments going forward from the neighbors or anyone that happens to catch a glance of you in flight would garner you. "No, I was flying a plane!" :joystick::pilotfly: "Sure you were" :smilewink::music_whistling:

You know what is funny, even a novice noticed it as well. On Sat night me and my girl watched the GGG fight on the projector(11ft screen size) and after I checked out the Non-live live stream replay and while watching it my girl said, "where's the life? Aren't there birds and sheep/animals and people anywhere?" I just shook my head no with a grimace. :( She said "oh, that's too bad" I did point out that I am sure most live stock was long dead or eaten or similar. War time after all. She did say the 17 was pretty and liked it's glass nose. :smilewink:

Man thanks for the follow-up post because I had not seen your original post on this. This is very cool and something I have been interested in myself as I have both a 3d Tv and projector and wanted to see what it would look like on them. As it is SBS any 3d vid player should have no issue with it I assume. I want to check it out.

Upuaut's Bell-47G/H-13 Sioux for DCS World - Teaser
Torso replied to Eight Ball's topic in Screenshots and Videos
I await it's release with anticipation. I really want to fly this bird. -
Here are a couple pics of how I did my 2nd ms. And nope no issues, Windows just deals with it fine. Works great for me. The scroll wheel on it is perfect for dials and rotary switches in cockpits too. I found this particular ms to be the best low profile look and actually fits dimension and gloss finish wise as well. I have several other wireless mice and this I liked the best. Also, VA works great for me for LCTRL+C to remove cursor when not wanted.

I think you have been very clear on it so far. But your understanding and interest in preparing everyone is appreciated. Once out, we will all get a chance to see what this ancient computer tech it was equipped with was like whether already aware of it or not. We have faith you will get it right and if not on initial release, sometime thereafter. Heatblur Simulations knows their stuff we all know. We just want more of your stuff.

It kills me to see the same stuff referenced over and over especially after it has been addressed already. Please don't let little things like people not reading the thread on their own dissuade you from further WIP posting. I say if already answered once, don't feel the need to reply again on it. We can point them out to the answer in thread provided upon initial question asked if the user is too lazy to read the posts since WIP media is posted up. :smilewink:

Wow, very cool. Can you correct me if I am wrong but it looks like you guys are adding some shake to the face curtain handles. Is that correct? If so, just looks amazing and adds life to the cockpit itself. Very very cool.

I too am doing a VR pit-chair but with some tactile controls to a)Not let all my stuff sit idle b)So I can reach out and touch something, remove all keyboard usage if possible. I am curious to see how others are doing it. For rotaries I felt the easiest was to attach a a 2nd mouse, wireless, to my throttle. This way I just look at the dial I want to adjust and then just use mouse wheel on attached throttle mouse. So far working like a charm and lets me use this method for all dials. I figure since I have to look at them anyways why not just resolve the movement method without expense or fabrication. I have attached my Coug MFDs to 3d printed mounting adapters I designed and then onto articulating arms that let me re-position them for different planes if I want to allow me to reach out and use them in same real space as exists in the VR world. As a bonus I have also designed them with real functional screens that I have as well. Though in VR, which I fly they are of no use any longer. Also, use Voice Attack and that is freakin just amazing. So much nicer talking to tower and wingmen. I should get a few pics of my updates soon.

Yeah me too. I am betting we never see this function. It seems things others have been able to do for years is still out of reach for ED and some of the devs sadly. Will try and kepp some hope alive this gets implemented at some point. I am sure work is being put into the function, probably.

Very very nice. Kudos to you on it. And just so I am understanding what I am seeing here, regarding the button box. You removed the stick from the it's base and then modded the stick's base box to create the button box? If so man does that look good. It looks like a production unit. Dang I want one, even though I use TM Hog hotas. Any more details on it? Pics maybe during construction?

lol. Oh man. I really hope you get someone to record your reaction to your 1st time trying VR and/or 1st DCS run in VR. Golden moments to cherish when your known world jumps to the next stage of evolution. I still feel it after a yr now. Vive has a front mounted cam that can be used to show your surroundings. But I have one and never have a use for it myself. Muscle memory allows me to use my physical controls without issue.

I do hope upon on reflection this is not what you actually believe. I have around $500 or so invested ED products and have the expectation for that amount to rise by $200-$250 this year alone. This is not of course adding in hw costs that can dwarf those numbers. We are not cheap. The ED customer base is not expecting freebies. Money is not the issue that is causing some to raise alarm. I HAPPILY buy every ED product that is made available to me if it is of interest. And I know I am not alone nor set the high mark. ED needs to earn money for sure. We are all here ready to buy the product. It is up to ED to get that product out in a time frame that allows them to be still enjoying the profits from the last release when the profits from the next start coming in and so on. Living paycheck to paycheck sucks. We are here to help prevent that. We can only do so much. I know once the dust settles all will adjust to a working state. But until then try to not let the reactions cloud what they are reacting too. Because it ain't money. Please give us a little more respect than you are currently. Note I said Please. I see nothing disrespectful in my message so I can see no reason for a penalty awarded.

I was not aware it was expected that once you are in cockpit it is set perfectly for each user by default. I have to re-position my view in every bird to get it set right. Doesn't everyone?

I have the same setup it appears. Never seen one done like mine. Nice http://imgur.com/zRhLd6i

My body is ready. And I am digging that sidewinder launch shot.

So it is assumed you have a monitor and your VR connected to same vid card. For instance connected to my 1080 I have 3 lcds going to the 3 displayport ports and my VR is connected to the HDMI port on it. So when I use my Rift, a view does show on the desktop at same time. It is the left eye view. This is the mirror image that by default gets displayed on your monitor. Makes sense?
