  1. I was under the impression glints off canopies and off polished, reflective surfaces was gonna be a thing for 2.1 and up. Is that not the case?
  2. Yes indeed I do recall that name.
  3. Very good points and great suggestion to maybe incorporate a slider function to adjust sea state. I live in near the water and you are right, the sea can have life even without local area wind present.
  4. No it has been pretty clearly stated this is a WW2 env map. Changes made in the editor are up to the users not ED. I hope they offer the ability to make everyone happy by providing the resources to change as user desires. I am looking forward to helo flights and such in Normandy. Obviously not too historical doing that. I would hate to imagine trying to load a plane or object and be greeted with a " This resource does not meet period requirements" when trying to employ. Side note. GPL was one of my joys. I worked at Sierra Online when it was released and spent countless hours on VROC racing and at the racesim central forums. Just loved that sim. In fact I have the original art work for the box along with a couple custom GPL pics I acquired from our art dept. Check it out. http://imgur.com/5NEyhAi http://imgur.com/MBZuszg
  5. Take a look at this thread. I posted info about my screens and what I use which work very well. They fit way better than Lilliputs. These are under a $100 each as well. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=185073
  6. You see how open Razbam and Heatblur are being currently. Are they suffering for it? We appreciate their sharing. They are not hyping anything, they are just saying 'Hey, here is something we worked on today made some progress on and giving you a peek". It means something to us. We tell them how much we appreciate it. They aren't being raked over the coals or being assaulted. And if some immature manchild decides to post some nonsense..oh well, ignore and move on. I wish ED had a PR dept. and not left it to what appears to be unpaid super-fans. No disrespect meant by that. But PR and Marketing and good Customer Service are skillsets and one can't just be tasked with it and expect it to go well. ED and the 3rd party devs all suffer from a 'get to 70%-80% project completion, then move majority focus to the next project, and make that last 20-30% drag on forever. With some maybe never reaching completion most likely.' How good would the meals at a restaurant be if they only prepared their food to 80% or "Hey, wanna buy an early access suit? it is 85% done, We will get those sleeves done, we just need to get working on this new tuxedo though, but we will get those sleeves done, really. We just need a new sewing machine for the new tuxedo first. Wait, what issue with the vest?" I know, buy elsewhere. But...you know...uhuh. I support ED, that is why I care. I spent a lot of money, by choice I know, on this product line. I will spend more. I just wish ED made that seem important to them.
  7. I understand. Not everyone is a Steam fan. But, no, you buy the module there, they give you the key. You just use that key to dl and activate the module from stand alone. Your money certainly to spend as you see fit. But, ED still gets money from the deal. You just save your pocketbook which is never not smart to do. More to apply towards the Normandy map/pack purchase as well then.
  8. It is on sale right now. 40% off on Steam. Buy it there, move key to stand alone. $29.99. On sale till the 8th.
  9. Questions about current state of lighting in the map. The cockpit lights are illuminating the surrounding terrain and external plane model. If you then switch to external view, no illumination is going on, not even as it should be seen that indeed the cockpit lights are on, in the cockpit. You know what I mean? You can see this in the livestream vid below at the start. when he is messing with the lights. Does this seem right to anyone? Does not seem correct to me at all. It is like the in-cockpit the lighting just emits to everything in the area, with no restrictions when in-cockpit, and then from external views it does not even exist, even in the cockpit itself where it should be seen from external view illuminating, emitting a glow at least to the pilot/cockpit some what..etc. Also, the landing gear lights look great projected now on the terrain, but from in cockpit and external views it looks like a physical cone is attached to the plane and sticking out from it. It literally looks like a physical object almost versus..light. Finally, light is not cast on water and it does not reflect lights, from the planes. Anyone know what I am talking abut here? Will these behaviors be addressed? Are they currently even on a list to be addressed? I know, WIP, pre-alpha, etc. But curious if we can expect to see the above fixed in a timely manner. Other than those issues, looks good. Looking forward to it.
  10. I just got mine as well. Was a bit of a challenge to get it seated just because the ext wire gives a bit and I need to hold it secure with some needle nose pliers to ensure the plug seated all the way, but it did. Couple things. It is like night and day in regards to weight difference. The Hog grip could be used to kill someone as a bludgeoning tool. Since I had and ext in use with it it was very light to the touch, the Virpil grip has made the sticks springs more effective and I actually am enjoying the difference. So far happy. Will be ordering base real soon too. Only 2 things I wish were different. I really miss the WH thumb switch. The 4way plus push is really useful to me and that to me is a shortcoming of this grip currently. I wish Virpil would offer the option or simply change it. I see the VKB basically did that with their pro and I hope Virpil answers back with a similar upgrade. Other change is a just a personal pref on shape of thumb button guard. But other than those 2 things. Pretty awesome stick and no regrets. A couple quick and dirty pics.
  11. I actually use a tool called Fileinfo as part of my ft job(Work for a rather large well known software company). I did install digestIT and came up with the same hash results as you. No clue why this is happening with this one. I worked around it by using my work laptop to dl the file and it unrar'd fine there then just copied files to usb and moved to main rig. But mystery to me ..lol Thanks for the suggestions and screenshots to enjoy while i worked around this. Appreciated it. And thanks Upuaut, really appreciate the work you did on this amazing little project. I hope it gets completed one day. It deserves it. It has an amazing view in VR, the best in DCS now currently for enjoying the terrain, like a flying lawn chair. Will be great for touring Normandy and others. I was really looking forward to this. If only a texture artist could pretty it up a bit down the road at least that would be awesome. Thank you again very much for adding this to the hangar. Makes a great propeller beanie for the Sphinx. Love the view Caps were taken while in VR, so..format.
  12. Thanks for confirming it is on my end. No clue what is the cause dangit. I also use winrar and no other files are giving me an error when I try to extract them. Even tried with winzip too. Odd. Downloaded the file 5 times now, in 2 different browsers and they all fail for me. Downloaded his hummer_med 6.rar file and the gazelle_milan_6 rar file he has and both of those extracted without issue. Just the one I want and was waiting for is going belly up on me..lol. Damn. :(
  13. Anyone able to extract the files from the zip file? I dl'd it and says it is corrupt or wrong format. Downloaded 3 times and each time when file is attempted to be opened it goes belly up. Really was looking forward to this one. Sorry you had to drop the project Upuat. Maybe sometime in the future you can finish it as you envisioned it.
  14. This sounds like not dealing with taking a loss like champ issue more than anything else. So ego based. I see no reason to nerf a weapon to keep cyber pilots feeling like they got skills and can log off feeling like a winner. Either adapt or adopt and survive or fail and perish. A new weapon shows up on the battlefield, the other side can't request they dial it down a bit to make it less effective.
  15. I took a look but saw nothing that stands out. I cannot even identify the control that could be causing it. I will take another look to see if anything related to RPM is mapped because it wasn't previously. And for both versions too, same behavior. Odd. Flew it daily with no issue till now. Cannot even lift off most of the time. All other modules no issue.
  16. I did not see anyone else report this so not sure how it is happening to me but after Fridays update I have gone into both NTTR on 2.0 and Caucus on 1.5 and I try to fly the Huey and very quickly, and sometimes on spawn, the High RPM warning light is on and making noise and the craft is not able to fly. It is spawning basically damaged. I have created a quick mission and it does it, though sometimes I can lift off and fly a bit then it happens all of a sudden in flight and I end up trying to auto rotate down and often crash. Then I will click fly again and upon the mission reload the craft already is in a damaged state. This happens on quick missions too. Anyone seen anything like this? I literally cannot keep the heli from High RPM and falling out the sky or not even being able to lift off.
  17. Freakin awesome. Looking so good. I can't wait to have more MFD's to click. I am curious, do you own a VR headset and if so, does this not have the most open view of any plane made so far? I mean those canopy sills come down to below elbow level pretty much when you see footage from in and out of cockpit. Cannot wait to fly that in VR myself. Curious if you have or not and if view is as good as I am expecting it to be? Thanks again for taking the time to put these update posts together and sharing with us behind the scenes of a DCS module in the womb as it grows.
  18. I just tossed out 2 of the most iconic planes of the period. If someone did it would be up to them to find a nice opposing combo to develop. I just feel it would be best done as a 2 plane initial start to create an obvious 'vs' pairing out the gate. All is a dream I know and not gonna be an offering. But this is a wish list sub-forum after all.
  19. I really hope info offered up like this is captured and sent along to those on the dev team who could employ the solution. Nice community assist.
  20. It has been in development for about 4yrs now. Soon. Back to map, it is looking great and the shadows I am seeing, as they move over the blades of grass and across ground from trees and the plane look great. They really deform well and map to the terrain below them nicely. Good work. This map will be really nice for heli's indeed.
  21. I saw it waving in the 'wind' which was nice an added life to the terrain certainly but missed if they now are actually simulating prop/rotor/jet wash now. Which would be great if so. Helis/planes landing on that grass should create a prop wash effect on the ground. Maybe still too much to ask for at this time. So my girl came in while I was watching this on the projector(11ft screen) and she asked if there will be birds or 'life' in the map. Is that possible? I don't really think I have ever seen a bird in the world. Would be cool to see a few fly around, maybe flee from trees when an explosion occurs near them. I don't know, something to make the world seem alive. Some live stock in fields maybe. Random cow, few sheep..goats..something. Perhaps an Ambient Life Asset Pack or something could be made and sold for a few bucks for those that want a little more life in the map.
  22. Not sure what you are seeing there. Looks like the same old smoke effects. In fact, the smoke columns are way too small and short. They should be going much higher than they are in the vid which is how they are currently. If it has been tweaked it is not by much. I am hoping Wags comments on updating explosions soon will help create the kinda of effects we can all see in any videos of the time period and how explosions look in them as they are much more impressive in real life than what DCS offers currently. Currently even a car or house fire would create more billowing smoke columns that blowing up a factory currently produces in DCS.
  23. Just watch this vid man. I think for this threads topic, I made my wish pretty clear. WW1 Starter Pack: Sopwith Camel/Fokker: Followed up by a Spad/Albatros/etc... WW1 Asset Pack with a couple AI bombers Handley Page, Gotha, manned observation balloons, barrage balloons, few period ground assets. Boom done, WW1 is now an available period for play and enjoyment for all interested. Could all probably be done in less than it takes to make one 3/4 gen module. I guess now the work is in your hands. I now will take over the waiting mode. :pilotfly:
  24. I completely agree. I think if some upstart dev team was to simply put out 2 planes initially. Green lit by ED for a test sell. A nice Sopwith/Fokker combo they would find them snapped up damn fast. I would guess that with such simple and basic systems development time on them would pretty damn fast. Now sure FM/DM(We are talking wood and canvas here) would take some work but as far as systems go, there really ain't squat much to model. The era seems like the perfect entry point for some new team or as a subset of an existing dev team AND a possible FAST REVENUE generator, with quick module turn over time. I know 2-3 other guys that do not DCS now, but would with WW1 era. Us older dudes remember well Red Baron(I happened to work for Sierra On-line back in the day) and other titles such as Flying Circus where WW1 era dogfighting was a blast. To think of that brought up to ED level and in VR, which seems 7*7 will not do for "Other WW1 Sim" regardless of my email bot spamming them daily with the demand, I know it/they would sell. Doesn't matter that others wouldn't want it. Others would. I don't buy trainers, other do. My not wanting them has not prevented their existence or making others happy with them. There are ton that want the fun with the ED fidelity without the hassle of dealing with complicated system aircraft and hardcore hotas req's(in term of systems to manage and map). With Normandy release, there is a suitable secondary env usage and would fit perfectly. It is the god dang birth and birthplace of what brings everyone here for god sake. Why not allow some team to honor that? Why not some team want to try to honor that? That way, we can enjoy the birth of that era as well. DCS is already now into WW2 era, why not just say f' it and go all in. "DCS, covering air combat from it's birth to the present." Almost sounds like it could be part of a marketing slogan. I guess I could use the word to summon it. I heard you just say "Kickstarter" in the mirror 3 times. I think that is how it gets initiated. Are you the man who makes wishes come true? If so, how do you do. I have this list you should take a look at......haha
  25. I understand the 'setting' has an effect on some things, was just not sure if it is actually an all encompassing 'actual' global environmental effect. I mean wind is not constant, it ebbs and flows, gusts arise and fall, dead lulls there, the jet stream up high..etc. Wind is not like a fan turned on. It has 'life' to it, a dynamic, not a static, force. Just trying to understand how deep 'fidelity' goes when it comes to the environment.
