Cyph3r, Quick question. Any plans for backlighting? Been discussed at all among the team? I know maybe not asked about yet perhaps but curious. Would love to not lose my green backlights of the wth throttle for my darkened sim room and the option to switch to a few other colors would be cool for others perhaps as well, red, orange. Not talking gaudy..classy backlights..ya know ;)Just a thought. Do you have any input you can share?

I think you are so spot on and I can say in VR, ESPECIALLY at night, this pink undertone that is somehow prevalent really shows up badly. I have screenshots showing how bad it is. I wish they could remove this pink base color that is used. I have not seen it in other sims at all day or night time lighting. I have raised the pink tone issue in other threads regarding night time lighting issues but there is not a specific thread about this pink tone that exists in 2x I believe.

Maybe a simple wartime/peacetime setting toggle option for the ME? Less work I would guess vs almost individual light control if that is what you meant. I agree.

** F-14 Update! - F-14 Pilot Testing Session / Trip Report! **
Torso replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Thank you for sharing this with us. It is appreciated as all your shares are. EDIT: Note this part: So they have set it up so he/they can further evaluate their changes it appears as they move forward. -
NTTR is a warzone? Really? You have seen Vegas at night before right? Night time env in DCS needs serious work. Just because DCS is a supposed to be a combat sim does not mean that obvious shortcomings in the game env can be just pushed aside with that as an excuse.

My girl was impressed with the model. She asked where his butt was though, said 'it goes from thigh to back with no ass'. I told her 'it would be planted in the seat, won't see it'. She said 'I have seen you eject too many times to know it will not be hidden always'. She is taking peeks at my screen when I am in VR it appears more than I thought...lol Looking real good, will be nice to have a pilot in the cockpit.

This is how I setup my MFD's. I use articulating arms that allow me to adjust them to any position I need so I can/will be able to set for different aircraft. Works well with what I have been able to test it with. A-10 mainly obviously as still waiting for Harrier and Hornet. But I can reach out and touch what I see in VR. Need the Hornet to release to finalize my center MFD mount that I am 3d printing. The one in pics is just proof of concept, though perfectly functional. Just need to get height correct once I have module in hand for final print run. Mockup prior to printing MFD adapters. Using 3d printed MFD adapters. MFD with mount adapter and arm collapsed.

You would be amazed at how much muscle memory kicks in if you actually have a setup that is fairly static. I can use my Hotas, G13, and 2 to 3 mfds(Prepping for F/A-18 release) and a secondary mouse all without needing to see any of them, my body and hands know where they are. And with VA, it covers any other commands that a kb could be needed for other than typing in chat. And still about to add a DSD button box to the mix for the rotaries. No fear not being able to see them. I will know where they are, very quickly. I use more controllers than my friends who use tir still use..lol.

You know I took the Spit up for some fun last night and it felt WAY different than it did the last time I flew it. I mean it almost bordered on out of control over sensitivity from the last time I flew it. Made me wonder if an update was applied to it and this is the result.

That is a great vid. It would be neat if one day we could actually declare an emergency in ATC and actually have it then affect your landing procedure in DCS. Since that is unlikely to happen in the foreseeable and unforeseeable future maybe someone will figure a way to make a specific scenario mission file that can put you in this handicapped position with such a landing aid to be able to experience it.

In fact it has been brought up previously and yes it was stated it currently is a limitation in DCS. They cannot currently do vectored thrust exhaust/heat blur effects. Right now can only point out the rear. I know it was also stated that Razbam is trying to work with ED to get it to work apparently. Hopefully those efforts are fruitful. Fingers crossed they do because it really needs to work. Also a nice ground deflection effect, a de-tuned/tuned effect similar to the Heli prop wash would work I would guess, when it is hitting the ground. Lets' hope 2.5 can allow this kind of stuff. Be terrible if not. It really would complete that picture.
-
BUT..doesn't it require updates to be released by ED in conjunction with a module release to 'add' it to DCS World? Does a module release file itself contain all required to be added and usable? Or as we see it is in testing that is the case and no prep required by ED?

(Prepares draft of email to send to work in morning letting them know I will be MIA for the day) Just in case.

I know it maybe is a bit of a headache to deal/manage with some of the community hype but one has to assume as a company it is always great to know there are customers biting at the bit to purchase your work. Countless other companies cannot say the same and would be envious to have such a hungry audience ready to hit the buy button once they make their offering available. Wishing you guys good luck and good speed as you do what you do.

[Feature Request] Visual Combat Effects
Torso replied to Magic Zach's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
+1 For sure it would really be nice if they added a spark/flash effect when you are making hits. See those occur in countless guncam footage. Just overall improvements needed in the area are definitely due and in order. Hopefully one day, the DCS mantra..lol. -
Very excited for this and it is next level certainly if all comes together as hoped. I think more discussion will be possible once more information is available. Currently we only have many questions it seems and only until more info is made available or a Q&A on the topic with HB all we can offer is reactions to the post. Looking forward to it for sure. I will say this, PLEASE HB Team, PLEASE, include Pilot and RIO character models with the release. Do not leave us with empty seats as so many others have. It does make a difference for immersion. And this module I feel really warrants them to be included. As always, fingers crossed.

Wow, I respect everyone has an opinion but there is just so much wrong in this post it is scary. I suggest you actually try it if you ever get a chance. It does not seem you actually have to be honest. I mean the fact you seem to think only DCS and ED are VR capable titles, and barely at that according to you, says a lot. I hope anyone interested in VR and is on the fence still takes your views with a cattle sized salt lick.

Cockpit instrumentation and HUDs never been an issue for me. The only real VR design 'aspect' I suppose you could call it would be for improvements to the DCS World environment to improve VR users exp and in many cases would also benefit 2d users too. The one main that screams out is adding dithering.... as Elite Dangerous did to improve VR users exp. That is THE biggie that ED could do to improve things as I see it currently. Also their light designs for ground and vehicles..needs serious work to make things look decent in VR. Not holding my breath but have said a prayer or two. As others have said, new and better hardware is the real key for the most part. Greater FOV and higher res/clarity of view. But nothing I can really see from a 3rd party module developer standpoint. The planes are as they are. I do think each should add a pilot model for gods sake..why it is not done baffles me. It can't be that hard to do. I do think they add to the VR exp and that is in the devs control.
-
This is a very valid and important point.
-
Uh, have you actually tried VR? stratman59 I suggest you try it yourself vs taking this opinion as it seems to go against the grain of most users who actually use VR with DCS such myself and many other actual daily users of VR DCS. As a VR user yourself you know it's huge advantages even with current gen so perhaps this post is not needed.

Just wanted to add my +1 to this issue. Just got out of a MiG-15 session and came here to report this and see that it has been by others already.

Yes, I am in the Instant Action Free Flight mission. In the air, engines on, generators on. I want to fly level..my nose wants to drop, so I use hat trimmer, it shows in game the input..but nothing. No change in trim. All my controls work fine. Same ones in the M2k give the desired results..same for every other plane. Is there something different about the F-5?
-
Hello All, I am having an issue where I cannot seem to trim the aircraft at all. I have the controls mapped, no conflicts. I can see the trim hat on the stick move in the correct manner when trying to use them but there is no affect at all on the behavior of the plane. I gotta be missing something simple here. I mean, the controls are listed so I assume I can use them. I for instance have no issue at all trimming other aircraft, M2K works as expected, others..etc Anyone got an idea?

Here is the vid of the AAR attempt in case you haven't seen it. Probe is in view.

Gorgeous new pics. Really amazing looking. Instrument lighting looks real nice. I hope they can eventually enable vectoring for the engine exhausts and some ground deflection effect as well for them as I can just picture how utterly amazing that would look taking off and landing. Got my fingers crossed for the code wizards to perform their magic. Ready to add to my cart when buy button goes live.
