  1. They need to implement dithering in the game at the minimum. Without it, we will suffer from this for eternity. And in VR, the issues are magnified 10x what a monitor user sees. DCS is a daylight hours sim for me due to this reason...and the terrible ground lighting....sadly.
  2. Good deal. Did not watch the vid from the YT page, but from an embedded link elsewhere so did not see text comments below it. Sounds like it will be tweaked after other work is taken care of. Awesome.
  3. Oh really? The vid I watched had no commentary, just in game audio. If already on their to-tweak hit list then great. Just in case it wasn't wanted to suggest it and provide some resources that I drew from to back up my suggestion.
  4. I was watching the latest vid and enjoying the VR view I will be enjoying and noticed at 8:57-9:05 a view of the det cord and was curious to ask if maybe it could be looked at again to perhaps improve it a bit? It just seems very segmented and looks lower res than rest of modelling as pic below shows. And the fact it stretches across the canopy view means it will be in constant view. Could it be improved? Also, see this pic And this vid (Just amazing in-cockpit vid..watch it anyways!) Neither exhibits the curve as in the latest dev vid..Is it an optical illusion? Anyways, I look for low hanging fruit in my critiques so hopefully this is one that maybe you could consider reviewing. Will leave my request to see if nav lights can get rid of the glow ball effect for later..lol. But looking real good. Very excited for it's early access availability.
  5. Yeah I got a friend who lived in the region and he said maybe after a rain it was that dark but not under normal everyday conditions. But, I just saw these posted today and terrain looks more correct in color so things are looking better. https://imgur.com/a/2QxQ9#QkYaLqw
  6. Just been looking at aerial shot for Dubai and surrounding areas via Google Images and Bing Images and noticed how off the screenshots we has seen so far for SoH are in regards to the 'sand/terrain' color depicted. Has anyone else noticed this? It all seems way too brown. I mean the beaches at the water line are this dark brown color. I of course know it is a WIP so do not need to be reminded, as that is why I am asking if the W can be expanded to correct this. Will this be reviewed and possibly corrected prior to release? If not planned, can it be reviewed by the team? I would think correcting prior to release would be optimal vs post. Hopefully this is considered and if so thank you.
  7. Airspace?
  8. lol..it does like to collect dust. I wish it would find a new hobby and find something new to collect. But nothing a damp cloth wipe once a week can't resolve until it does.
  9. I have 2 soft bladed fans on my desk I turn on for VR driving and flying, and sure also if hot during summer of course. I like em and they make my desk look like it can fly.
  10. Reports like this have been being made since Rift and Vive were released..over a year ago. I have made a couple threads on this and posted screenshots and also pointed out that a lack of dithering is at play here and that night time VR usage is just terrible for reasons not just due to the lack of dithering but how lights/stars are rendered in game as well as somehow a mauve color tint that occurs at night in a bunch of textures(hell, all the screens OP posted have the same mauve tint as the predominant color in them which alters the textures for almost everything at night..why is that? Why freakin does DCS saturate it's graphics with MAUVE/PINK at night? How about AT LEAST solving this issue devs?), not to mention the glowing terrain which still exists. So far not a thing done to address nor even stated that it is going to/will be/might be addressed. The gamma slider option was heralded as a fix for the issues but it does not address the issues at all and I knew it would not even prior to it's release due to the nature of the issues. Gamma changes are not the fix. It was useful to work around the overly bright daytime flying of course. Maybe one day we will see some of the issues addressed but I quit hoping at this point and for DCS in VR, it is a day time sim only. For decent night flying in VR you have to look elsewhere. It does exist.
  11. I gotcha. Yeah that low fog layer in Normandy is really comfy. Thanks again.
  12. Thanks for the clarification. That is a good answer and makes sense. If they update their pos a few times during the daylight time cycle then that is a great compromise. Just never noticed the shadows cast at 9am in the world terrain are different than the ones cast at 2pm in the same location. And to clarify this is how it is currently in NTTR and Normandy? But again thanks for the answer and the info, appreciate it. Really looking forward to it regardless of course. Screenies are gorgeous.
  13. Are terrain shadows gonna be prebaked/painted on as they are in NTTR or will terrain shadows actually react to the position of the sun?
  14. That is Putin right? I mean, it is a very Putinesque photo
  15. Yep, been monitoring that reddit thread myself. Only thing holding me off trying it is the same concern. What happens when next update is released..am I then in a need repair prior to update state....hmm...so tempting.
  16. See this stuff confuses me because it is said like this is a new feature, like folding wings. My wings have folded on the Su-33 for as long as I can recall and currently I can turn the plane on a dime while maneuvering on deck. I cannot see how they could make the nose wheel steering any higher gain. It literally can almost turn within it's own radius, like a tank can, currently when on deck. So what does this mean? These features have been having a slow roll out for well over a year or more?
  17. Love this last part. The court also added this gem of a reason in its dismissal of the case: "The callow youth featured in the commercial is a highly improbable pilot, one who could barely be trusted with the keys to his parents' car, much less the prize aircraft of the United States Marine Corps." So many DCS pilots would easily be in that cat ...lol.
  18. Roger that. Milk and cookies package selected and loaded up for deployment.
  19. Is not tomorrow a release day if there is going to be one? So, is there gonna be one?
  20. Well that makes me feel a bit better for sure....in a sick at least I am not alone kinda way...lol. I want you all to suffer like me..haha. Yeah the cockpit lights, bleed..etc and glass reflections are all whacked out still. The canopies can get real funky and flat plate ones like the 109 become non-transparent, so..opaque?. So many issues. Not to mention the nav and gear lights behaviors. Well I wish there was some fix for this. Maybe some will come. I have other examples where the terrain just looks wonky if you want an actual dark sky, but then a whole bunch of other issues arise. The gamma slider does not fix the issues sadly. It really sucks because DCS at night in VR could be just amazing. But so many issues exist. Even the ground lighting literally disappears at altitudes it clearly should still be visible from, airports and cities virtually dark below you until you get real close and then you can see their lights, terrain textures changing to weird colors..etc. I guess very few actually fly at night it seems from the sound of it I guess. That's too bad if so. Keeping the flame of hope alive ED really takes a look at this from a user perspective and finds a way to make night time lighting somewhat realistic. I know they got a team of some very smart and talented people. Maybe one will crack this code mystery one day. Imagine Dubai lit up, flying the Huey around, or whatever. I want it to look amazing in VR at night. Hell, I want Vegas to look great at night in VR...anywhere at night...you get it. But I am still gonna crap on this until it gets fixed.squeaky wheel and all...lol. More pics to come
  21. I just did a check in the store, 190 Dora $49.99, I have $27 in my account, but yet it only lets me use $15 of it towards my purchase. Bringing it to $34.99. That ain't 60%. Why won't it let me apply the full $27? Am I misreading the sale specifics?
  22. Just because I got home and the little woman is now crashed I figured I would beat this horse some more with some pics. I wanted to see if other Rift/Vive users see similar. These shots were taken on NTTR map with gamma slider at 1.3, time is like 1 am, month of June. They show what I see in my headset as they were taken through the Rift lens. They do accurately portray what I see with my eyes but obviously some detail is lost. My VR camera gets shipped tomorrow it sounds like so I will have proper 4k VR pics once it arrives for better results. 1st shot, what my monitor view of the scene looks like. Nice night time scene. Now this is the same shot, but through my Rift lens. You see all that magenta? See how bright that now is? Is this what other VR users see? My Rift does not have the red shift some have. Everything else looks amazing on it, Night not an issue for other titles. DCS only seems to do this. Why? Here is the horizon still, AFTER gamma slider. It is set to 1.3 just to get a black sky. Much higher and the sky goes crazy It is better than it was for sure, but still, why does DCS do this. This is at 1am. Another plane shot. Also see how the stars are as big as the building lights. Anyways, I have other pics but did not turn out as well. If I set gamma to 2 or so or higher, the colors all are correct, but once again it looks like daylight at 1am. Anyways, curious if these pics look familiar to other VR users? What is it about the DCS engine that makes it behave this way with the VR headsets? I got both Rift and Vive, they both look like this. I mean on monitor these issues do not exist really. Why in VR do they?
  23. Something special happening this week with DCS? Also, I just did a check in the store, 190 Dora $49.99, I have $27 in my account, but yet it only lets me use $15 of it towards my purchase. Bringing it to $34.99. That ain't 60%. Why won't it let me apply the full $27?
  24. Sorry for not replying back myself..lol. Thanks for your info. It just sounds like we are having different experiences is all. I have done more tests since the gamma slider introduction which does allow me to help make the sky actually black which is nice to have. Actually the issues DCS has at night are not present for other sims. Try out XP 11 at night, demo is free or IL-BoS. The night in those looks great with none of the issues DCS STILL suffers from. So not an issue with the Rift. It is an issue with how the game engine does night/lights in DCS and how for VR it just kinda sucks currently. At night there is a very big "magenta shift" that occurs somehow in the game engine lighting. You can see actual magenta in the textures at night. It is like how some of the planes lighting needs to be fixed because they for some reason default to magenta since 2.1. Why magenta? I have a VR video camera I should be getting in July that should actually allow me to record via the Rift and Vive(I own both and issues are in both so not a Rift headset issue) headsets as the eyes see it, using 2 lens so 1 for each eye lens. Perhaps I can get some vid then to post to show what I am seeing. I just am shocked others do not seem to have much issue with how night looks in VR. It kills me. I feel like I have less of a game. I want to do night ops but night just looks so crappy in VR to me. I knew before it was released the gamma slider would not truly fix the issues at night but it does provide a crutch. Hopefully real fixes come eventually.
  25. There seems to be an overall issue with somehow pink being introduced to the game at various lighting conditions. I just ran a series of night tests in the Rift and noted hot pink colors all over the place in the color palette of the terrain and the planes, and the planes lighting. And the landing gear lights are just crazy, especially on the P-51. They need to fix this.
